My wife and I needed a diner in the Bethpage area to have dinner and meet up with friends. Thought we’d give the Star a shot. I found my fresh turkey sandwich and fries to be tasty. But my wife’s twin burger platter was awful. First the waitress arrived with the wrong entrée and shortly returned with two overdone charbroiled burgers. They had been ordered rare, but these appeared to be reheated overly, dry pieces of beef. The staff made themselves available often enough, as far as service goes. But next time, we’ll be trying out one of the other diners on Old Country Rd.

In the sea of diners on Long Island Star Diner satisfies your needs but doesn’t exceed it. It is small and parking can be difficult but they have a wide variety of food selections that are all solid. Debbie is always friendly and gives a personal touch. Overall not bad but nothing to rave about.

This is a cool place… Small but nice. The food is very good and the prices are great for the area… Good specials all the time

Very good food and attentive service; classic good New York diner: excellent omelettes, sandwiches, burgers and special plates. Fries are essentially good and the coffee is flowing. Parking is fine, but you might miss the place driving east. Décor is nothing special, place is small for a Long Island diner.

TERRIBLESERVICE! Would give it 0 stars if possible. During the middle of their dinner at the Star Diner, my mom had to escort my elderly father to the bathroom because of mobility problems and when they returned a few minutes later, they found their table cleared and other people sitting there! No apologies, nothing. The manager was indifferent and tried to blame my parents thinking they had left early. He later tried to make amends by offering them a free cup of coffee. Goes to show how little they value their customers. Disgraceful.

Star Diner is A-OK. It has been around forever — I remember coming here when in High School, 35 plus years ago. What I remember then: STICKY, oily, dirty, greasy. What I observed now: CLEAN ! What a nice surprise! in the area and needed a free-wifi place to sit and do some work and get a bite. We sat there longer than a typical diner, and were never hassled. Ordered breakfast waffles, pancakes, eggs, hashbrowns… my only complaint: I had asked for the eggs fried NICESOFTYOLKS — sunnyside — and they flipped them. Oh well. I still ate them, they were still a bit runny like I like ‘em. We tipped the waiter well — because we did take up a table he could have turned over twice more, so I am sure he was happy too.

This is one of my favorite diners. The food is really good and reasonably priced. They give you big portions like good diners do and they are very attentive. The waiter I’ve had is named oscar and he is great at his job. Always makes sure the food is good after it comes out and keeps our drinks full. I have gotten food by calling in and carrying out as well and it is just as good as when I eat in. Definitely recommend this diner!

we were there this morning for breakfast about 1015 before it became crowded. my waffle came out and it had a weird flavor. I ended up finding pieces of lettuce cooked into the waffle. kitchen staff must be sloppy and cross contaminating dishes with dirty utensils. My boyfriend ordered cinnamon toast which ended up being white toast buttered and dusted with cinnamon and sugar … I Dont think so. Waitress never came back after she served us. approached every other table to see if they needed anything. we ended up just going to hostess to pay the bill. will never go back

Potatoes(hash browns) were unusually salty and greasy. LEO omelette was o.k. Bagel came with a big chunk of cream cheese. It was hot and stuffy in the diner. There are better choices for diners in Plainview and Jericho.

Nice local small diner. Doesn’t have all the glitz of the larger area diners. Good food at a fair price with less waiting.

Great potatoes. So important. Sure, the register lady is loud, but she’s a sweetheart. If you don’t like it, go somewhere else. Better loud but nice, over the tight-lipped harridan at Parade in Woodbury. We come down from Syosset, it’s a good 10 minute drive to Star, but it’s our fave diner. Has it’s flaws, but don’t all diners?

The closest diner to me but I will never return due to the horrible service and okay food. Obviously there are regular locals there but its as if they don’t want anyone else in the restaurant. The waitress was obnoxious and annoyed when we asked a question. The food was thrown at us and she never returned to ask if we wanted anything else. She was busy serving her regulars. I have never felt so alienated in a restaurant in my life. I don’t leave bad reviews usually and am very fair and even take«bad days» into consideration but this one is one I will never return to. She wasn’t having a bad day… they just don’t want new customers.

I’ve passed this diner many times while on my way to work but today was the first time I actually stopped by. My coworkers swear by this place so I figured why not? The parking lot here is a joke. It’s one way, in a circle around the diner, with diagonal spots. Makes no sense. The diner itself is pretty small but not painfully so. Typical diner set-up. We were quickly seated, seeing as how the 12PM lunch hour crew was leaving. The waitress rushed us a bit. We weren’t ready to order just yet and asked her to come back, she came back about 2 minutes later. She also took our orders then asked what everyone wanted on the side but asked the wrong person. Before we were even close to being finished, she put the check on the table. Besides the rushed service, the food was pretty good. Usual diner food. I had an omelet with tomatoes and feta. Not bad, pretty fresh. One coworker had the spicy roast beef pita. He said the chili peppers and beef went very well together. The unsweetened iced tea was also very tasty. I’ll visit again.

I came, I ate, and I will never come back. Ordered burgers and was not happy with the burgers. It was just nasty. Worst than a Mc Donalds burger patty. Most people come to a Diner to eat a decent burger. Heck no I typically do not rate this low as you can see in my past reviews. Go to BK it is right down the block. Really bad experience = bad review.

I’ve been going here for the last 5 years. The food is consistanly good from breakfast to dinner. There are always specials of the day. My wife likes the pot roast and I’m a fan of the fresh turkey club. Thier deep fried home fries is great with gravy. The portions are nice. The service is always attentive. The place does get a little crowded on w/e for brunch but they move the food out quick which doesn’t mean they’re pushing out the customers. Last night I went for the skirt steak(romanian steak) and it was cooked to my liking. The wife had the cuban panni. I think the pastrami or grilled chicken pannie taste better and the wife agreed. The wife and girlfriends always stop here for sat lunch after ther gym workout. I will be back again.

And so ends the«Summer of ’09LI Diner Tour.» Met my dad & girlfriend at the Star, formerly known as the Hicksville Diner. Considering it is right on the border of Plainview, I guess«Star» is good for me. Had the LEO with home fries, and a big tray of wheat toast for the table. Coffee, black. All excellent! Now, to hit the aerobic training to knock down the poundage amassed this week.

Excellent diner. I love a good diner and to me that means a hot cup of coffee as soon as my butt hits the seat. Star diner is a contender for the«top rated on Long Island» held by one of the island-wide papers, and it is easy to see why. The waitstaff work as a team — there is no «your waitress will be with you in a minute» business. Instead everyone seems to wait on you — need more coffee? Someone runs over and tops it off. More water? Same result. The food is great, fresh and cheerfully brought to the table. Prices are average. Tight parking lot around the perimeter.
