Closed. I went at least 2 – 3 times per month until last November. The last time I went the burger patty was considerable smaller. That was the last time I went.

For me the charburger taste better than five guys small burger. I not a big meat sandwich kind of person as the meat overloads the other flavors in the sandwich. The fries I like the best over other chains including five guys. There old style frozen as they may start out as but still taste good. Plus you get ketchup from a pump and don’t have to deal with tearing open packets. The people that work there are helpful and friendly. I gave them five stars because taking into account price the burger and fries taste as good as I have found over the years.

Five Guys wanna be!!! Okay, the whole meal was $ 6 so there’s that. However, the fries are frozen so I don’t care that you put them in the bag and then more on top of that… like Five Guys. The meat is fresh but other than the char taste it had no seasoning… not even salt and pepper. The big screen TV’s are there but there was music blaring so why bother. It’s a concept that seems fresh but the whole thing seems a discount version of Five Guys crossed with McDonald’s.

Char-Grill has expanded into the Piedmont! This High Point location opened in February in a new, small strip mall on N. Main St, and is a franchise operation. There is talk that additional locations here would include Greensboro and Winston. There are 6 locations in the Triangle area, now. The ordering system remains the same — you fill out the order menu, slip it through a slot to the folks at the grill, which is glassed off. You go around the corner of the kitchen area, pay, pickup your order, and get a cup for your drink. There are about 20 small tables at this location, and 2 big screen TVs on the wall, along with old pictures of the original location on Hillsborough Street in Raleigh. At all their locations it takes a few minutes to get your order since the burgers are cooked to order, and this one is no different. The hot dog is covered in the same excellent chili(it comes in from the Mother Ship) — this is just an outstanding rendition of the classic Southern chili dog. The fries are also as good as at any location where I’ve eaten — and that would be all of them. We also ordered the ½ LB Hamburger Steak with cheese, and this was not as well received. The cheese was like Velveeta or Cheese Whiz, and very orange in color, and not an orange color found in nature, and not a taste I cared for. The meat was round, as was the bun, and I swear I thought this particular sandwich was rectangular at the Hillsborough Street location. The problem was the cheese, or cheese food — it did not marry well on this sandwich. And I have nothing against Cheese Whiz — Casey’s BBQ on Friendly Avenue in Greensboro sold a ton of Whiz Burgers to GHS students in the 50’s and 60’s for 25 cents each, and I ate my share. But, again, I digress. The meat was fine by itself, I will just avoid the cheese product in the future. Hopefully, they’ll come on into Greensboro soon. They do produce good eats at reasonable prices.
