This is the mecca of cupcakes. If you find yourself North of 290 — — it is in your best interest to make the stop for some amazingly delicious cupcakes. You will not be disappointed! Everything is amazingly wonderful and delicious. Major props to the Baker boys! You have outdone yourselves this time! Keep up the great work.

Read my first review for a more thorough idea of what they do. Some time back we hosted a big birfday party for the old man. We had a restaurant party-room booked, festivities and more. When I asked him about a cake or sweets, he told me he wanted to do something different than a standard cake. Good thing because I’d already decided in my head I was going to order an assortment of cupcakes from here. So one day, I called up Baker Boys and placed an order for approximately 75 — 80 cupcakes. If you see any of the photos I posted, these were mainly what I ordered.(Red Velvet, Double chocolate and their version of the Hostess Cupcake.) I forget the important details. Something about the quantity ordered has to coincide with something else. It probably has to do with the size of their largest baking pans. I know, that’s poor info! Call and ask, they’ll tell you. It was simple to order and they had my cupcakes ready at the requested time. Compared to ordering a simple sheet cake from Costco, this was a fantastic value. When we revealed the cupcakes at the party they were gone within minutes! I had to yell out to people to take one, at least until everyone got their hands on(at least) one. Everyone was thrilled.

Easy 5. So F****N good. The cake part is cooked perfectly and the frosting is unreal. Red velvet and peach cobbler. Chocolate, vanilla, cookies and cream. All insane, everything is. I’m telling you the frosting… Huge hit at our dessert table, ppl are still asking where they were from.

The cupcakes are amazing and whatever flavor your heart desires suggests, they could probably make something similar. Highly recommend! :-)

Thus far this is the best bakery I have found in the Northbrook/Highland Park/Deerfield area. On a recent visit I had picked up a vanilla cupcake, a brownie chocolate cupcake, a toffee-caramel-sea salt cupcake and snicker doodle cookies. Divided them up for the family and nothing was left when we were done. Frosting and fillings are great and no too heavy. The cake was moist and had good flavor. Prices are a bit steep, but their cupcakes are markedly better than other local bakeries. Note, the cupcakes are made fresh daily so don’t arrive early if you want some, wait until late morning, I got there around 11 am and all the cupcakes were in the display cases.

The most amazing bakery. Amazing cupcakes and I especially love their red velvet custard. It is absolutely amazing with chunks of moist red velvet cake in it. They stop baking things a few hours before closing, I’ve gone there 30 minutes before it closes and there were no cupcakes left but we still got custard which was what we wanted anyway. Love it!

A Baker Boys cupcake haiku for you: Eek, overly sweet Good selection of flavors Mini cupcakes too! I tried caramel toffee ‘n sea salt and cookie dough on my visit, and between the frosting, filling, and/or topping on each, they were way too sweet in my book. Friendly service, eclairs, ice cream, and cookies available, and Intelligentsia served here!

First timer here, and OHMYGODDDDD were these cupcakes delicious!!! I am from Chicago, and had a meeting in Northbrook. I had some time to kill, and REFUSED to go into a Starbucks. No. Just no. Plus, I like supporting local businesses and looked up coffee shops nearby. Now this isn’t a large café(it’s on the corner, and maybe fits 15 people max), but the pictures looked so great, I decided to take the 10 minute drive. We are not from the area, so the GPS threw us off, and there is only a 15 minute parking spot in front. No problem, we were in a rush anyway. The gentlemen inside were extremely welcoming and friendly, we told them we were first timers. Even though the pastries were labeled, they explained all the goodies, including what to store at room temperature and what to leave out at room temp. We ordered some coffees, which is self serve. Its brewed fresh, but left in those carafes that you push down. It tasted fresh, and was not too strong. I settled on 3 cupcakes(hey, 2 were togo!) I ordered the sea salt, toffee and caramel chocolate cupcake, a banana chocolate cupcakes, and a brownie fluff. My husband ordered a blueberry/lemon scone, a lime cheesecake, and 2 peanut butter reeses cookies. Um, delicious? Heck yes. Tasted fresh? Double yes. My husband was also very excited about the coffee stoppers. Yeah, we had no idea, but I took a picture of it anyway!

This place offers arguably the best cupcake Chicagoland has to offer. All desserts made in house along with the ice cream. Only the coffee is outsourced to none other than Intelligentsia Coffee. Try any cupcake of the day specialty and you won’t be disappointed. I never have been. Only negatives, size of the place is small — but clean still. Also, if you go later in the day varieties will be limited. Understandable.

Amaze-balls! I don’t often use the term amaze-balls so you should take me seriously when I say the cupcakes and hand spun frozen custard from Baker Boys is amaze-balls! It’s a small shop with a handful of tables, cute as a button. As I stood drooling over the case I was told everything is homemade down to the fillings for the cupcakes. So obviously I wasn’t going to leave without a cupcake. I selected the Caramel Toffee ‘N’ Sea Salt. It took me to a whole new level of heaven. I thought it would be super rich but it was just perfect. The cake was super moist and the inside was filled with oooey gooey fudgy caramel goodness with the perfect amount of salt. The frosting wasn’t overly sweet. Creamy, buttery, marshmellowy, perfection. Awe… sigh…I wish I had another… Lets talk hand spun frozen custard. Two words: Red Velvet. This custard had red velvet cake and frosting(yep frosting) all mixed together. It was packed full of moist cake smothered in sweet creamy vanilla custard. Just dreamy! Probably the best custard I have ever had. Their dessert case is small but offers a variety of daily baked goodies: cheesecakes, scones, cookies, croissants, coffee cake muffins, eclairs, mini cupcakes. Come early for the best selection. We came at 3 and it was very picked over. Everything looks delicious, its hard to decide. Intelligentsia Coffee is available as well. My one regret is I didn’t purchase a whole box of desserts or a pint of custard to share or… not share… with my friends back in Indy. Side Note: As I ate my custard I kept thinking how amazing it would be if Indy businesses Lick Ice Cream & The Flying Cupcake came together creating a Red Velvet Elvis Ice Cream. I think that would be a hit! I think it too would be amaze-balls!

Oh man… I went here instead of crumbs based on reviews&we were soooo let down. Bought the cupcake on as Saturday around 1, $ 4, and it was pretty much inedible. Rock hard, tasted older than day old… Probably the worst one we’ve ever had, sad to say will not be back.

I had a coffee cake muffin which was delicious. It had all the good parts of a coffee cake with some delicious cream cheese frosting on top. My girlfriend went with an éclair which was also tasty, the filling was great and the pastry had a great consistency. The one disappointing thing was that they were out of almost everything when we stopped in around 2 so our choices were quite limited.

Been coming here since it opened. It’s simply the best bakery around. Let’s break it down: Cupcakes– Delicious! They have tons of fun flavors like«Hostess with the Mostess»(a play on the classic Hostess cupcake), Cookie Dough(which has a cookie on top *and* cookie dough in the middle), and the best Red Velvet you’ll ever try. Breakfast pastries– Their chocolate filled croissants are the perfect way to start your day. I also like their cinnamon scones a lot. Cheesecake– I’m going to lay it out here: I hate cheesecake. Who wants to just eat sweetened cream cheese? Well I took a risk and tried the cheesecake here, and it’s to die for. I especially recommend the Toffee Caramel cheesecake. They’re «personally» sized, but there’s no way one person could eat a whole one. Custard– Easily the best custard this side of Kopp’s. My favorite is the Oreo/M&M, which is just chock full of the good stuff. Then again, the Red Velvet has huge pieces of red velvet and icing that sort of melt into the custard… it’s hard to pick. To top it all off, the Baker Boys themselves are very nice and helpful and really make this feel like a classic neighborhood spot. There’s even a punch card that only requires five punches to get a free dessert.

It’s clearly wrong that I have not reviewed BB. I’ll keep it short and sweet. Go here. Get the lemon merengue cupcake– it will change your life, so fresh, so perfect. If they don’t have that, choose at will. All the cupcakes I’ve had have been delicious. The mini cupcakes are good and keep the demons at bay. The coffee/espresso(Intelligentsia) is great, the affogato is amazing, drool. Get the punch card. You will use it. You must never lose it, as it is the portal to free cupcakes.

I’ve been wanting to try Baker Boys for some time and finally got a chance to pop in for a sweet breakfast. I actually got a peanut butter cup cookie and it was one of the best I’ve ever had! Super soft and great flavor. I had great service when I went in, as well. I knew I had to go back in for their cupcakes before writing a proper review. Well mission now accomplished. I made my second trip this past weekend to try some of their cupcakes. I went a bit early around 830 am on a Sunday and they were still in the process of making their cupcakes. As such, I had my choice of two flavors so got one of each… Red Velvet for me, Lemon Meringue for my friend. The nice guy stamped my frequent buyer card(get 6 stamps for a free item!) and told me to be sure to keep them at room temperature. I just ate my red velvet for a post dinner treat and it was scrumptious. Honestly to die for! The cake was moist and packed full of flavor. The frosting was smooth & sugary, also full of flavor. It all went together really well and I’m regretting not sticking around to try more flavors freshly done. If you’re in Highland Park, you must stop at Baker Boys. Stop at the bakery for some sweet treats then head to Madame Zuzu’s for some tea, sit out on the sidewalk and have an amazing lazy Sunday morning or afternoon. Sounds like a splendid day to me!

I met a friend here for coffee this morning, and I have to tell you I had a more than delightful experience. Of course finding a *private* spot to chat is always a bit of a challenge, but in the summer you can sit outside at one of their two tables. If you want privacy, this might not be the spot for you. But, if you don’t mind the intimate neighborhood vibe, they have three 2-top tables and a counter to sit at with approximately 6 seats, so keep that in mind if you plan to meet up with friends. Love the owners here, they are super friendly and always greet me with a smile. Though they are busy baking away right in front of you, they will stop if you have a question about any of their goodies. You just need to ask. Baked goods go quickly here, especially after the morning rush, so I was a bit nervous there might not be much to choose from at 9AM. But today I was lucky and scored one of their coffee cake muffins with white icing. It was super moist and beyond cinnamony delicious. My friend said she shares it with her hubby, but I have to admit I almost gobbled up the entire muffin on my own! I love coffee cake, and having it in a paper muffin cup was a nice treat. I ordered a vanilla latte, and it was so good it didn’t require a bit of sweetener. Yep, going on the list right… now.

I have been to Baker Boys a number of times and I am a native of Highland Park so there is nothing better than giving a great review. Unfortunately I don’t feel that the hype around Baker Boys is accurate. I have found that everything is hit or miss. Sometimes they have what I want and other times they don’t. If we go as a family I find one out of us four is generally disappointed. Their treats are good but I just can’t say they are incredible or at least not consistently. The only thing I find a constant at Baker Boys is that the people that run the place are not friendly or helpful. Don’t bother asking a question because all your going to get is attitude. Baker Boys has good stuff and is in a great location. I will still go for a sweet here and there. My suggestion is, don’t go expecting to experience the best cup cakes in the world or Chicago.

The Fabulous Baker Boys! Like any polished torch song their delectable treats are satisfying and unforgettable. As the name suggests the baked goods are their signature pieces. I like the cupcakes, especially the chocolate. They also have other great treats such as croissant, eclairs, muffins, cookies. While the bakery is their purpose the homemade custard is impressive; they rotate the flavors. The standard flavors plus some surprising and playful ones. The coffee is excellent — fresh intelligentsia, plus a cute patio, and free wifi. Plan a visit to these virtuosos! The outstanding skill and service have struck a chord with guests and make it a hit.

Steve M.‘s beautiful picture of the cupcakes that he bought for his wife got my taste buds salivating to the point where I HAD to stop by as soon as I could. So, my boyfriend and I stopped by around 3pm on a Saturday afternoon. The store is bright and inviting. We were greeted to bright walls and rock music. The outside of the shop is a bright yellow, which can put a smile on anyone’s face. And, as for the cupcakes, they sure did make my taste buds smile! We decided to stick with the minis so we could sample more of their flavors. I tried the red velvet, vanilla and banana chocolate chip. My favorite definitely was the vanilla one. I liked that there were sprinkles mixed in with the frosting. It had just the right amount of sweetness. The banana chocolate chip was a little too rich for me. I would have liked to taste more of the banana cake. I think there just may have been a little too much frosting on it for my liking. It was good and I’d eat it again, but only in the mini version. The red velvet was pretty good as well and I absolutely loved the cream cheese frosting. The shop is somewhat small, but there is enough seating. We sat at the bar area facing the window and basked in the sun while we enjoyed our goodies. They also serve Intelligentsia coffee, which is a big plus. I love bakeries that serve GOOD coffee! The only downsides are that the cupcakes aren’t labeled so they have to explain them to you. Also, the selection was somewhat limited by the time I got there. I definitely will be back to try more of their cupcakes as well as their cheesecakes and cookies. And, they do have a punch card so you can get a free item after you buy 5.
