Mutual Ace Hardware

We have been coming here for years. The selection is terrific but the service we have experienced can be hit or miss. I have been directed to the wrong location, had to wait exceptionally long times for advice and the service counter sometimes delivers no service. That being said, sometimes it’s just the opposite. I have also received great advice and had service that borders on having a personal shopper. Depends on how busy they are and who is working.
Getting back to the selection they have everything from your usual hardware suspects to grills to household and pet supplies. I do miss my old Ace Hardware in Ann Arbor where they also had a supply of really nice pots, pans, table linens and other knick knacky home items.

Good service good selection good quality products but couldn’t give 5 stars because the prices were a bit high… but convenience and service do have a cost

They everything that the bid box hardware sores do not carry. It’s good to know the neighborhood hardware store with a knowledgeable staff that knows their stuff is still around.

This is the epitome of the hardware store that has everything you need and more. There are plenty of caring and knowledgeable people there to help you with any need or concern and can give you many options for dealing with whatever issue you might come up with. This is a store which, despite its size, gives you the feel of the hardware stores I so miss from the past. Don’t wast your time going anywhere else. This is the location to go to when you need that something special.

Words can not express my appreciation and gratitude for this store. Mike and Steve are the most respectful, sincere and helpful managers I have ever encountered at a hardware store… or really any store for that matter.
We purchased a Weber gas grill from them. Mike was the original person who helped us. He explained the different options in great detail and gave us a catalog so we could go home and make an educated decision on the grill we wanted. Once we decided, we were able to easily place the order over the phone. Ace delivered it assembled a few days later. The cover was accidentally left off the delivery truck. Steve was so friendly and understanding over the phone. He had it delivered right away the same day… no questions asked, no issues.
If you are looking for a grill this is definitely the place to go. This Ace is going to be my new «go to» store of choice when ever I need items from a hardware store.

Not a whole lot to review here, in general Ace is decent. Though it’s a big box store version of a local hardware store.

The service at the rental counter is fantastic. They are also very helpful in the store if you need help finding something. I have lived in the area for ten years and it is nice to see many of the same faces working there over the years.

Through birthday after birthday, holidays and work events, this place has been a part of our family for years. In fact, when I place a rental order I’m treated like family and the service is always five stars.
My review is based strictly on my experience with the rental department. Up until last year we held birthday parties in our home for our boys and transformed our downstairs into activity stations with extra tables and chairs. We’ve rented extra chairs and tables for holidays and work events, and each time I’ve never had an issue. I pull the car up, they bring our items out to the car and we load ‘em up!
What gets me is how reasonable their rental rates are and how flexible the return policy is. Just this past weekend I rented four chairs on Thursday night for an event on Friday, Sat, Sun. They only charged me for a 2-​day rental since they considered it a weekend rate. Though I was expected to return the chairs today, my husband was stuck in traffic and couldn’t make it by 5pm. I called and the guys said not to worry about it and said they appreciate the business and to just return the chairs the next day for no extra charge. Mind you the chairs were only $ 1.50 each.
I haven’t spent a great amount of time looking around this store for other goods, but I look forward to coming back when I’m not on a mission to just spend some time browsing. This store has been around forever, and I’m thrilled that they are in my community. I feel like I can plan events to my hearts desire!

This is the BEST hardware/​supplies store on the North Shore. I have lived in Highland Park for the past 20 years and Mutual always has what I need. The owner is personally so helpful and the staff is truly concerned, informed and beyond capable. I actually found that their selection of the items I needed was far greater, less expensive and the service better than what I experienced at Home Depot.

I have always been happy with every Ace Hardware I have frequented and this is no exception. One thing I miss is the selection of housewares I usually find in Aces, but this one is fine.

It would be really helpful if a local business that normally charges significantly more for their products than other retailers, honors coupons… specifically if the «Ace» award coupon has expired for 6 days — honor it. I know it is a lot to ask, but making a customer happy, keeps them out of Target and off of Unilocal where they right nasty reviews after a nasty experience with your sales folks…

The service is great. The employees here WILL ACTUALLY HELP YOU ! It’s not the cheapest hardware store around, but I am paying for convenience when I come here. Sure, I could drive to Home Depot and save a few dollars, but I DONT WANT TO DRIVE ON LAKE-​COOK RD TRAFFIC ! This ACE has everything, from pool supplies, automotive, I have even bought laundry detergent here. They’ve fixed my torn window screen, mixed me paint. I have been shopping here for 20+ years !
