I haven’t been here in years. In fact I ventured out to Highland MI specifically for the breakfast I remembered all those years ago. I found the place with no problem on Milford Rd(east side of road) and it all looked familiar. However when entering I thought the place was aged. Poor lighting and a lack of energy from everybody but one worker. I believe they installed booths over the years or at least I don’t remember them. They cluttered the restroom hallway with refrigeration of some sort. I don’t remember this either. The menu didn’t look like it had changed much but I was going specifically for what they used to call the big breakfast. Three eggs cooked as you like, now two eggs, a slab of grilled country ham, four rashers of bacon, now two sausage and AMERICANFRIES of course this was finished off with your choice of toast. To me this was the best breakfast money could buy. Freshly boiled potatoes, sliced then grilled with butter on the flat top. FLAVOR! I am tired of these flavorless frozen shredded things being served as well as the frozen potato bites deep fried and called American fries. The ham serving was generous, the bacon not so much. The sausage pattie was suggested by the male waiter so I tried but not a fan. Didn’t like the bread used for toast either. Seemed to disintegrate in my hand while taking a bite But the potatoes, the reason for my trip, were wonderful. I wish every breakfast house served these! I will go back one day and enjoy those wonderful breakfast spuds with three eggs over and a nice slab of country ham.

Great food, great staff and friendly customers. Reminds me of cheers without the beer.

Best breakfast in town. Hash browns are the real deal. Omelettes are as big as your head and the pancakes will have you coming back for more. I’m not sure what kind of coffee they have but I can’t get enough of it! D’S does it right.

Just terrible. Wait staff was unfriendly, potatoes were super greasy(not in a pleasant way), my omelette was grossly undercooked, and it took nearly an hour for them to make our food. Will not be going back here.

My husband and I came here with our son for Sunday breakfast. The food was fine — standard greasy spoon diner food. Generous portions of breakfast meat. However, everything else about the experience was pretty remarkably bad. The waitress was rushed and largely unattentive. We waited over 30 minutes for our food after we ordered(the place is small, you would expect a couple plates of eggs to come out much quicker than that)… And while we were waiting, we watched our waitress get into a very loud argument with one of the cooks. Also, someone was clearly smoking somewhere in the back of the restaurant — the whole place was filled with it.

Very friendly waitstaff, extremely attentive and never got to the bottom of a cup of coffee. However, not much variation on the menu with loads of grease and butter. Tried my boyfriends hash browns and they tasted like pure butter, which is why he had so much left over. Would really appreciate options like turkey bacon/sausage like other competitive coneys and options for less butter or grease. Would definitely make the experience better, but I guess coming here entails leaving with 1,000−2,000 excess calories. Not good for someone who likes to watch what they eat. If you’re coming for that greasy spoon experience, D’s is your place. Would probably not come back for that reason.

Love D’s diner. Yeah it’s small cramped and needs a face lift, but the food is always good, fresh and plentiful. I usually go for the omelettes and endless coffee. It’s noisy, but that’s because of all the laughter and friendly waitstaff! Portions are large and prices reasonable. On weekends be prepared to come hungry, wait for a table and bring CASH! Service is always excellent with a smile!

Not sure how this place stays in business… We walked in to a packed restaurant and had to wait for a table which is always a good sign. After 15 min a table opened up and we grabbed it before a lady and her family tried to weasel in front of us after just walking in. 15 more min passed and a server came over to wipe off the table, but she didn’t finish. She left the dirty rag on our table and came back a few min later and finished the job then took our order. 3 cups of coffee later we still didn’t have our food. An hour later… Still no food. Finally after an hour and 20 min from when we walked in the door we got our food. We didnt have time to eat so we asked for a to-go box and the check. I walked up to pay and waited in front of the cash register for 5 min without anybody looking at me. I went back to my table and left $ 20. Not only was this a waste of time the place is filthy and the waitstaff is not friendly or efficient. The food was okay but not worth the hour and a half wait for BREAKFAST!

CASHONLY! That’s the # 1 thing you need to know before going here. This is a wonderful local diner with an «everyone knows your name» kind of feel to it. The service is wonderful and the food is amazing! The portions are ginormous and decently priced. I’ve never been able to eat an entire omelette from this place because they’re just so big! If you’re looking for breakfast in the Highland/Milford area this is the place to go.

I am from Phoenix Arizona and my husband and I were in Michigan for a U of M Game(GOBLUE!). A friend of ours from Michigan told us about D’s and so we thought we would just have a quick breakfast there one morning out of respect for her. SOGLADWEWENT the first time and three other times in the same trip! Everything we had was amazing, especially the pancakes. Now every time we eat pancakes anywhere else, we compare them to D’s. Haven’t found any better so far. It’s not fancy, but that’s not why I go to eat at places really. Highly recommend this place… infact we just got a call that my husband’s father is not doing very well health wise and we have to make a trek back there… but it’ll be worth the pancakes!

I have been going to D’s since I was a child, living in the Metro area most of my life. I have always enjoyed the food, breakfast is an institution. I love their omelets and pancakes. It’s been a while, but even a cheeseburger was good. I will say some updates to the place would be nice. The booths are old and cracking, the floor and chairs are dingy and the paneling is so outdated. With that being said, we still love the food and it’s such a departure from the chain restaurants in the area; I recognize most of the staff from years ago. And if you don’t like eating in, there is always carry out. Biscuits and gravy aren’t anything special, quite bland. We prefer the sausage gravy I make at home. **ordered May 17, 2014**

Great spot for brunch but cash only! It seemed more like a hidden spot to me, but then again I am from out of state. Normally in California, you dont get THIS much food at their prices. I’m used to getting 2 strips of bacon, but here they gave me six(and maybe even a little more). I loved everything I had gotten from here during my 1.5 week stay. We had only visited twice in total. First time I had ordered the breakfast egg, bacon, cheese english muffin with american fries. Second visit, I got the 2 over-medium eggs with bacon and american fries with one pancake. The pancake was huge and fluffy! If only California had more pancakes like this! Their corned beef hash is pretty good too. The staff are all very friendly and we had a nice chat with them each time. She recommended also trying their lunch and soup items so I hope to get around to that the next time I’m in Michigan. I love my breakfast menu items so I can definitely see myself coming back :)

Come get some of D’s! Good food, great price, fast service, friendly waiter, nice town, big portions. On the other hand; small diner, kind of noisy, cramped(just a little), their info board and décor could use a facelift. However, if you are looking for a place to spend just a little«cash» and still have fast friendly service with fresh food and above average serving sizes. Then D’s is for you.

I’ve lived in Milford for nearly a decade, and I still don’t like the place. D’s almost tries for a «dingy greasy spoon» ambiance like Greene’s in Farmington Hills, but there’s nothing on the menu that makes you leave thinking«That griddle hasn’t been cleaned since 1954, and they’re justifiably proud of it.» In fact, it left me thinking«It’s like a tiny Big Apple that needs to be cleaned.» If you’re not a local, you may actually feel a bit out of place, because there’s a strong familiarity between customers and staff at D’s. That’s great if you’re looking for some sort of post-modern Andy Griffith experience, but not if you’re in line to get a table, and are skipped over.(Thankfully, that didn’t happen to me, but I saw it happen to another group behind mine.) Either way, I’m the only person who seems to think that waiting 45 minutes for a table is out of line, so don’t come hungry. Once you’ve found your way to a seat, you’ll quickly remember the days before Michigan’s smoking ban went in to place — mostly because everything’s still sticky and stained with old cigarette smoke. If you haven’t left yet, you will discover that their waitstaff is actually very nice, and that the food, while totally pedestrian and straight from Gordon Food Service /Sysco, isn’t bad. But that’s hardly a payoff for what you’ll endure beforehand, and what you could totally avoid if you drove another mile or two down Milford Road to get at Dmitri’s or Americus.

Small town, greasy spoon with HUGE portions, big lines and cash only. D’s is a Milford hot spot… and trust me it is not for the ambiance. It is adorned with dusty, grimy horse and farm paraphernalia on the wall… nothing has been updated in years… BUT no one cares. I guess it adds to the small town charm. If you order Biscuits and Gravy, expect a mountain, albeit a delicious one. Hands down, the biggest bang for your buck in the area. They are only open until 2pm, and breakfast is the star here along with cheap eats. Make sure you plan accordingly, as there is usually a line of elders, locals, families, and those in need of the hangover cure. D’s has been there for ages and I can’t see it going anywhere as it is well loved.

CASHONLY, but when the food is this good, who cares? No one does it better than D’s when it comes to down home delicious American comfort food. Breakfast is spectacular, definitely don’t miss out on their homemade sausage patties. In addition to breakfast they have great sandwiches, my favorite being the patty melt, and their beef stroganoff special is absolutely divine, thick egg noodles with cream gravy and just the right amount of spice, yum. Also D’s is family run and man do they run; at D’s it’s not unusual to see your waiter/tress take on several roles during your dinning experience, one minute their busing a table, the next they are on the grill. I’ve never seen a staff hustle so much to help each other out, it’s just amazing.
