My very first introduction to this fine fire-water was way back at the big Unilocal Open Party at Bossanova a few years ago. The Back to the Future one. With the Delorean parked out front. The awesome one. Little did I know then what that tiny little communion-cup-sized taste was going to unlock for me; tastebuds and social connection both. Bourbon and blended whiskeys; specializing in cask-finished bourbons — port, zinfandel, cabernet. Yes. I prefer their classic, original on the rocks or in a Manhattan the best, but they’re all good. All. Since that first taste, Ted and Taylor supported my company’s non-profit by providing their amazing spirits for events, and it’s been a real gas watching them grow the business over the last few years. Love seeing them at events like TOAST and on the menu at some of my favorite watering holes around town, the ones who take the time to feature local hooch. «Always carry a flagon of whiskey in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake.» ~ W.C. I first found out about this place back in 2011 when I had a small house party, and someone brought a bottle to share. IT was amazing! And, we have sense but several bottles since then. I also happened to move out to Hillsboro last fall(Oct 2013) and we just discovered recently that the tasting room is about a mile from our house! VERYEXCITING!!! The first time we went to the tasting room, my husband and I took my parents and I was impressed that the entire flight was free to taste. That is practically unheard of in my opinion! I have went to distillery row in Portland, and it is traditionally about $ 5 a person to taste(unless you buy-in to the passport-thingy then it’s cheaper, but still!!!). If you like whiskey, definitely give big bottom a try, it is top shelf taste with not the top shelf-price.

Tonight I got to sample some whiskey’s and a rum from BBW at «Toast»(The original artisan spirits tasting). I’m already a whiskey fan so I really enjoyed both their 111 proof american straight whiskey and their American straight bourbon. I have no idea what the rum was, except yummy. I also got to meet the makers of these fine spirits; Ted & Taylor Pappas. Talk about perfect people to run the show; fun and charismatic! They seemed to be reeling in my tasters than any other distillery. A good friend of mine is a friend of Ted & Taylor’s so I’m hoping to get to do a grown up tasting at their distillery(versus the thimble sized samples given out at Toast for a token) or help out bottling some weekend morning. If you haven’t tried their whiskey, you really have to give it a shot.
