This liquor store is TERRIBLE. It is so small that I have seen studio apartments that were larger. Because of the extremely small size, during holidays and the after work rush the line literally snakes through the whole store and takes FOREVER. The person at the register looked really young and was useless when I asked for their opinion. The variety was lacking. I used to go in 3 or 4 times per month when I first moved to the area. One day I went in after work, got bottom shelf vodka for myself and a bottle of Pendleton for my dad because it was his birthday, waited in the long line, made it to the counter and was told that he could not sell to me. I was so confused. I was 25, sober, and in my nice work clothes. When I asked why he nervously looked at a lady that was standing by the door and said his manager told him not to. … I turned to her(because the store is really small) and she told me she wouldn’t sell to me. I asked why and she said«I don’t have to give you a reason!» I was too shocked to even be angry at the time. I kept asking why and she didn’t even have a reason. It made absolutely no sense. When I told my boyfriend about it later he thought maybe they thought I was buying alcohol for someone else because I got something cheap for myself and something nice for my dad. ???. If that was the case, shouldn’t she have said something instead of sitting there smiling and shaking her head? I haven’t been back since and I wouldn’t recommend that liquor store to anyone. The one right off of Murray is big, has a great variety, always has items on sale, and their staff is super knowledgeable and always gives me great ideas. The Murray store even has a huge cigar section and all of the cold mixers you could ever need. TL;DR: SUNSETLIQUORSTOREISTERRIBLE! GOTOTHEONEONMURRAYINSTEAD!

Can’t believe my neighborhood liquor purveyor isn’t on Unilocal! Shocker! There isn’t a lot of choice when it comes to what we Oregonians can do when it comes to buying liquor so when I discovered that this cozy OLCC store located near the Tanasborne Shopping District carries a nice selection of single malt scotch, I was very pleased. Since, basically, prices are set by the state-as is what stock the stores can carry-running around looking for great selection is fairly useless. So I look for service. There are usually 2 checkstands open here so the line doesn’t get long, except maybe on a friday night. If I’m looking for something special, I can order it. I like the easy parking, the friendliness of the staff, and being able to browse around looking at the different distilleries and brands. I tend to stick to scotch and they carry my favorite 12 year old-Abelour Single Malt and even occasionally offer specials on it-and I can stock up. I know there are larger stores with more stock, like the Uptown, but the parking there makes it not worth the drive to me… I like the people here at Sunset Liquor and the ease of parking. They stock the basics and thats all I need!

Being from California, I learned that in Oregon you can only buy that hard liquor at a liquor store. Darn, I’m use to doing my grocery shipping and just grabbing a bottle. You can’t even get the Costco size! Boo. Compared to California, alcohol prices are a little more expensive here, at this location as far as I know. Its a pretty small store with alcohol lined up wall to wall. It’s pretty organized by types: vodka, mix, whiskey, etc. You walk in, grab something, and go. Not much to say about it.

Oregon liquor stores are basically the same, at least where stock and pricing are concerned. They only differ in their size, location, and local color(aka staff). I also find it hilarious that they’re all basically named the same — nothing catchy, nothing cute. Just«Liquor», «Liquor Store» or «[insert location here] Liquor». Oregon liquor stores need some serious marketing help. I suppose that’s what happens when you’re run by the government. Anyhow — this is one of the smallest of the liquor stores I’ve been to. It’s convenient for me, so I keep going here, but it’s teeny. I can only stop in here when I need something super basic — they don’t have all the crazy varieties and new products. They can’t really help it though — they don’t have room for everything. Also, it’s in a strip mall, so you may have to battle it out for a parking space with suburbanites shopping for pet supplies and sushi!
