Honestly cannot freaking believe ANY of the good reviews for this place. I guess we had high expectations for good local kine food in Hilo and this place has had a great reputation for 70 years. My friend and I found the food absolutely inedible. The Korean chicken wings were so soggy and fatty. The loco moco and hamburger steak plates had obviously frozen meat. Even the Mac salad was just blah. The«tossed salad» I ordered had rotten iceberg lettuce. I literally could not believe how bad it was, especially seeing how busy they were and how people were lined up. we left there hungry, mad and feeling so ripped off. I SERIOUSLYDONTGETIT!!!

I had the ahi special, which was great and filling, with a lilikoi juice(passion fruit) — great Hawaiian fast food. Verdict: A little pearl for Hilo, this fast food place offers good and cheap local options such as moco locos and ahi steaks that were perfect for lunch or early dinner.

So this review is based solely on the super loco and lilikoi soft drink. I decided to check this place out because I was washing clothes at a nearby washer. Although I’m a Hilo native, I never did frequent the place. I’ve been here when I was younger but I’ve never eaten here in my adult years up until recent. Café, 100 is supposedly home of the«loco moco» and after having the super loco, I’d believe that. It wasn’t the most amazing, knock your socks off loco moco but it was really good. A super loco comes with a homemade hamburger patty, spam and portuguese sausage, two eggs, rice and mac and all for $ 6 and some change. Although everything was good, it was the gravy that brought it all together. The gravy is really good. Like I said, it’s not the best I’ve had but it is really good. Plus, the best loco I’ve had was nowhere near $ 6 lol so for quantity and quality, you can’t go wrong here. The staff here is super friendly and the seating area is pretty big. They do accept credit and debit which for me is super convenient because I never carry cash. I also recommend y’all try their lilikoi soft drink. It was recommended by my cashier and I’m glad I tried it. It’s a nice alternative to soda(which I don’t drink). Anyway if the rest of their menu can promise the same quantity and quality that I got with my super loco and lilikoi juice, then I can honestly say that I’m super excited and anxious to eat my way through the menu. If any of you fellow Unilocalers here in Hilo recommend or have a dish that you just love from café 100, please message me and lmk.

This might be our favorite joint in Hilo. So classic and just busting with Island favorites. Of course the Loco Mocos here are worthy of robbing your kids college fund, but the teriyaki beef is really good as is their rich beef stew. The busy parking lot is your first indicator that this place does food right and has done so for many years. You can feel the dedication of the staff every time you order. They know what they are doing and work hard to «get it right» every time. Top quality food at more than fair prices combined with super friendly service.

Café 100 ended up as my favorite food stop on our 3 island trip. Tripe stew… sooooooo @#^(* good! Just like how my mom made it! Loco Moco was excellent as well. Wanted to come back and try other things but we ran out of time :(

One of my favorite places on the Big Island. If you like loco moco, you will love this place! Everything was good so well and the gravy was delicious. You can easily split one for two people. We got the Super Loco for breakfast and it was delicious. Except a wait because a lot of people come here.

It’s a decent place to get local favorites like Loco Moco but thats about it. It’s pretty big with many patio tables to seat down and eat. There’s usually more than one register open to accomodate long lines during dinner time, especially on the weekends. I think my boyfriend and I got Super Loco Moco or something like that and it was just OK. Nothing special. Their portion was huge though. They are VERY generous. We shared and it was still more than enough for both of us. There was no way for us to finish. Parking lot is pretty big and many people come to take out so circulation isnt too bad. There is always parking! To sum up the review, Café 100 has decent prices for a very large portion for OK food!

Couldn’t get to my original place of choice due to parking issues so here’s café 100. I ordered one of their special which was grilled ahi w a side of miso soup. There was a lunch crowd both locals and tourists waiting patiently in line. I enjoyed my ahi although it was a bit bland. It came w a small scoop of rice, macaroni salad and tartar sauce. Clean restrooms w a code to get in.

I stopped by here last week for lunch with my wife and her parents. We had been on the Big Island for a couple of days and were hankering to try some Hawaiian food and this place fit the bill. It has a sort of odd set up to it where it feels like the place may at one point have been an old ice cream stand and then they added a roof to cover all of the different seating areas. In any case whenever we arrived the place was absolutely packed with people both eating and waiting for their food. My wife and I decided to split our entrees and whenever I got to the window I placed an order for a regular loco moco combo meal and also a lil smokies loco moco. Then I stood around for a couple of minutes until my order was called and took the tray to our table. Both of the loco mocos were actually pretty good although I wish I would have gotten some more lil smokies in mine. However I can’t really complain for the $ 5 cost. The fries here ended up being quite good as well as they were piping hot and crispy. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. While the food here is probably only worth 3 stars on its own, I did love the many different choices of loco moco and thought the prices were great as well.

There’s one main reason to go to this locals favorite: the good-sized and well done Loco Moco. It’s not huge and looking like a heart attack on a plate like so many other places. Here at the Home of the Loco Moco, they do it right. White rice topped with a hand-formed patty(amazing!), a surprisingly good brown gravy, and an egg cooked any way you like it. All this for less than $ 4. Unbelievable.

For decent, cheap food. I would definitely recommend here. Fast service, big menu, easy to find, and lots of parking. Food was okay — I ordered miso mahimahi with tossed salad(more like shredded cabbage), and brown rice. I also got a strawberry goody good(like guri guri) ice cream which I definitely enjoyed more than my plate lunch. I heard their loco mocos are good, so I will have to go back and try that

Read about their awesome history dating back to 1946 through 2 tsunamis here . Any business that survives and thrives for 69 years deserves a visit. My «go-to» items here are the 3-item combo special usually low on the hand-written specials board… with 3 comfort foods of the day, and rice, and salad, and miso soup for about $ 10… or the kalua pork loco moco… which is not too huge and reliably delicious. I wish they would put up a menu explaining what all the different loco mocos are… I get tired of asking.

Home of the loco moco, allegedly even the birthplace of the loco moco! $ 3.50 for a regular. Can’t beat the price. I had the teriburger moco which was $ 5.75. If you don’t know what a teriburger is, «Teriyaki burgers» are like sweeter hamburger patties. Not necessarily because it’s bathed in a teriyaki sauce, but it has secret flavoring. Idk I just love teriburgers. It was pretty good, the gravy is ono. Plus one for their variety of loco mocos, ranging from ahi moco, to double moco(double the patties), etc. They even have the«Kilauea moco» which is chili, spam, little smokies, and portuguese sausage with egg over rice. If you can bring yourself to order anything that isn’t a «moco» of some kind, they have yummy specials of the day. The korean chicken was pretty tasty too. Don’t forget the green river(lime soda)! If you want cheap, fairly basic local plate lunch style food, go for it! Kinda reminds me of a more low-key Rainbow drive-in.

Delicious and cheap local food! You obviously have to try their loco moco, it’s a must! Hilo, Hawaii is where loco moco first originated and I think, Café 100 has one of the best loco moco I’ve had :) Super cheap too. Original loco moco is only $ 3.95 and the super loco moco(all three meat, two eggs, two scoops of rice & potato mac salad) for only $ 6.95! The portions are huge, so two can share this plate. They also have different specials/deals everyday. For drinks, try the lilikoi(passionfruit) juice. Fresh and yummy. This café is a takeout type of restaurant with covered outside seating. Cheaper and better than your average fast food chain restaurants! By the way, if you don’t know what a loco moco is, it’s a contemporary Hawaiian dish with rice, choice of meat(usually a hamburger steak patty), brown gravy and fried egg on top!

Locally owned and operated as far as I can remember. I have been coming here with my parents ever since I was a little kid. Now that I’m an adult, I hope I can bring my children here too. Prices are cheap. They are the originators of the«Loco Moco». I feel they have the best Mac Salad in Hilo. They do cater for parties and get togethers also. That place is a gem!

I’ve been to the Big Island of Hawaii a few times and each time I’ve heard about this Café 100 as being the staple of loco mocos in terms of their selection. I came around 5pm and first thing you notice is all the locals chilling and waiting for their food. Café 100 reminds me of those taco shops you see in LA or San Diego where you order at a counter in a parking lot and wait on the provided benches nearby for your order to be called. The service was fast as any taco shop as well. I ordered a Super Loco Moco at the recommendation of other Unilocal reviews. The only other loco moco I’ve had was from L&L’s. The order came in a takeout carton is filled to the brim with food. It comes with two eggs(however you like it cooked), two slices of Portuguese sausage, one slice of spam, one scoop of mac salad, one scoop of potato salad, and the signature hamburger patty with gravy all over rice. I got the eggs over easy and they were cooked perfectly with just the right amount of crisp on the white and a yolk that was nice and oozy. The mac salad and potato salad were average with the mac not really tasting like anything and the potato tasting like it came from Safeway, nothing really special there. The one thing that I did find significant was the hamburger patty. They provided a normal plastic fork with the order but right when I make the first cut into the patty, i noticed how tender it was. The knife cut through the meat like melted butter! The patty was juicy and tender by itself. In fact I really felt like I didn’t need the gravy. Overall, besides the hamburger patty, its really is just an average plate of food. It’s tasty and will probably fulfill your loco moco cravings if you have them, but it’s really nothing special.

My wife and I came for an early dinner, and loved our meals! I ordered the Chicken Katsu with two scoop rice and one scoop mac salad. The chicken katsu was perfectly sliced, breaded, and fried — nice and crispy on the outside while maintaining the tenderness and juiciness of the chicken. The tonkatsu sauce was also just right in terms of sweetness and tangy-ness. The mac salad was solid. My wife ordered the Kalua Pork Loco Moco with an egg. The pork was tender and smoky, the egg was cooked just right, with enough gooey goodness in the middle to go around. The gravy was the highlight, in my opinion. It was just the right consistency and saltiness to enhance the pork /egg /rice combination. The service was quick and friendly, and the seating was plenty. It was a very enjoyable experience for both of us!

Fun fact: The loco moco was invented. So… You should probably eat a loco moco here. Every local person will till you the same thing. Order a loco moco. My personal recommendations: Kilauea moco also once known as the volcano moco: 2 scoops rice 1 hamburger patty 2 eggs(over easy) topped with kim chee * it was not on the menu on our last trip. Super Moco 2 scoops rice 1 hamburger patty 1 slice of spam 3 pieces of Portuguese sausage 2 eggs(over easy) mac salad. Teri Moco It’s a little twist on the standard moco by switching the hamburger patty for teri beef. It’s a decent change-up from the norm. If you don’t want to stand out like a tourist repeat after me: I like one super moco x-traa graaavy Side port-ta-ghee sausage And a large bang. English translation: I would like to order: Super loco moco plate. Could you please add extra gravy? Also, side order of Portuguese sausage and a large orange bang for my beverage. This places loco moco is often imitated but never duplicated and should be on the must eat list for every local or malahini(visitor) when passing through Hilo town. Eat with confidence. –Aloha

A solid four stars for a long time institution in Hilo. This place is the home of the loco moco. Someone purchased the super loco for me and it was great! Sausage, Spam, rice, gravy, burger, two eggs, potato salad! Good tasting and filling!!!
