Update: Sushi Bar Hime is no longer in business at this location. Signs posted that the location is for sale. Sorry to see one of our favorite sushi spots gone. Take a short walk over to Ebisu-ya as an alternative.

Love how intimate this place is. Service is always wonderful. The food never disappoints. But the ambiance and the quality of the food sets sushi bar hime at the top of my lists for places to eat. Only downside is that it’s reservation only. Would come here again.

Cute place, nice couple owns it. Sushi was good, had the Rainbow roll, crab asparagus roll and tuna roll. Wish I would have tried something more adventurous, but next time, yeah. If ginger would have been fresh and natural(and not pink) would have done a 5 star;)

We had a quick stop here for dinner before heading back to Kona. It is a really small restaurant, and we were the only ones in there. Granted it was Halloween and we arrived 20 min before they closed. We did see a few people picking up there order to go. We ordered the Spicy Kim-chee soup, which was the BEST that I ever had. So good! We got the volcano roll, they state that it is baked, however they put it in the microwave. Still good tasting, but probably would pass on that next time. The other roll we got, Spicy California Roll was great. I would definitely recommend stopping by!

Great quiet little sushi place. Totally satisfied my sushi craving and very reasonably priced. And the service was great! Very sweet people, food was fresh and came out quickly. The restaurant is tiny. Fits about 8 people total. Seating is fine but not super comfortable. Our table was against the window so there was nothing to rest my back against. But for good sushi that is little to complain about. :) great little place

awesome food and service! wish there were places like this back home on oahu. sushi was all prepared fresh and omg the spicy ahi roll. mmm! best spicy ahi I’ve had yet. it’s a cozy little place. it can fit maybe 10 – 12 people inside so reservations might be a good idea to do). the owners are very friendly(they’re husband and wife I think) and they do a very good job at keeping your water filled and making sure you have everything that you need for your meal. id love to go back but we maybe tomorrow.boo. id recommend the spicy ahi and the pink lady. I wanted to try their bagel roll but was too full from my meal lol. we had the green tea ice cream which was fantastic! I think they use real matcha. but yes. please go and check it out!

Great little sushi place! The seafood salad also received rave reviews from my table.

Great sushi, fresh and made with love, The place is very small(tiny) and they have the weirdest opening hours, but is perfect for an intimate dinner or lunch, bring your wine or beer if you drink and enjoy. :-)

Wonderful. The owners are a husband and wife who work there. He makes the sushi and she waits tables. Theyre super friendly and the food is really reasonably priced. Everything is really nice and fresh and delicious. There are like 6 seats in the restaurant and 4 at the bar so call ahead.

Omigosh, we always over order. If they have the Aburi Salmon– a definite must! Also, the salmon skin salad. Asparagus roll has great crunch to it, wrapped in rice, with the nori inside. Volcano roll is baked with salmon, scallops and Dynamite Sauce. Miso soup is num num

Fantastic food and service. The family who own the place were great. They allowed us to order omacase, even though it is not on the menu. They asked how much we wanted to spend and what we like. Needless to say, it was incredible. We made a reservation, since there is only 7 – 8 seats in the place. I will definitely go back!

we stopped into this tiny spot for lunch while in Hilo. The service was fast, and everything we had was fresh and tasty. Our group of 8 completely filled the WHOLE restaurant, it would be hard to fit more people in comfortably! we were able to stop in for a weekday lunch w/out a reservation, but i’m sure that wouldn’t be possible on a weekend or nighttime.

Quaint little mom and pop place. Nice people. The rolls were hit or miss — prices were right — bagel roll didn’t do it for me. The ooey gooey cheesy seafood thing in a big shell was outstanding. Tasted like fettuccine alfredo meets sushi.

Recently moved back to my hometown of Hilo after 15 years on the Mainland. There are some new sushi places here so my husband and I thought we’d check out the different restaurants. Sushi Bar Hime is a tiny restaurant with few tables. We got there first during lunch so this wasn’t a problem. Not sure why other Unilocalers are complaining about the service. The sushi chef and waitress were nice and gave us our food quickly. While the portions were slightly smaller than other sushi places we’ve been to, the quality of fish was good. And compared to other restaurants, we really didn’t think it was that expensive. It was just a couple more bucks than Ocean Sushi Deli and we liked the sushi here waaaay better! And we didn’t get any rolls… my husband and I typically get uni, saba, ikura, maguro, etc. Only the good stuff! We also ordered the grilled hamachi collar. That is a must — the skin was crisp and salted. It was delicious! The downside is they only have a very limited amount of hamachi collar and it takes 20 – 30 minutes to cook. Overall, we enjoyed this place. The only negative was how hot it was! Small restaurant + no AC = no fun. But hey, it’s Hilo so can’t complain too much! At least the food was ‘ono! We’ll be back!

It’s just OK. Really tiny place like other reviewers said, three two top tables and four seats at the bar. We got lucky and got in w/o a reservation but we were there at 5:30pm on a weeknight. The waitress was nice but the sushi chef wasn’t too friendly, even though we said at the bar, he didn’t say a word to us. The quality of the fish was great but the serving portions was very skimpy. The rolls were great but again rather on the small size. One big negative for me was no beer!!! I like to enjoy my sushi with a nice cold glass of japanese beer, but no luck here. I do like this place, but next time I will bring my own beer.

Came here because of all the positive Unilocal reviews, but was somewhat disappointed. Being in Hawaii, I was hoping for some fresh fish, but the sashimi we ordered was just average. Nothing too special. And tasted WARM. The quail egg shooter with uni was one of the few unique things on their menu that I did enjoy — it was served with a very vinegary ponzu sauce. As a note, the place is small and only seats no more than 12 – 14 people.

We didn’t get to eat here because they were full. I put 4 stars so I don’t screw up their rating, but I want to post this because the other reviews are misleading. Not only does this place take reservations, RESERVATIONSAREREQUIRED. Other reviews say that this place seats 20 people. WRONG, it actually seats like, 6 people. There are literally two tables inside and two spots at the bar. We walked in at 6:00pm and they said«No reservation? ALREADYFULL! NOTABLE.» We were NOT allowed to wait for a table, they just said to go away. They were sort of rude about it, but I can understand that they probably get a lot of this, since they can only seat 6 people per night. Anyway, you HAVE to have a reservation. Good luck.

Went there for dinner after a day of travelling/sight-seeing, before the long drive back to Kailua. It’s a tiny sushi place on an alley run by really nice people. They only serve sushi, nothing else :) We ordered a bunch of rolls, all of them were great. You gotta have the crab salad roll, it’s out of this world delicious! Yes, it’s pricey, but so is everything in Hawaii!

Popped in here for lunch before the helicopter volcano trip. Cool little place with about 6 tables. Food is amazingly fresh. GF had a quail egg shooter and loved it. We had 2 tunas, salmon, a couple of rolls. All excellent!

Cute and a small place… lots of cat decorations all over the walls. The place was hard to find for us… hidden away on the side street. Sushi is good(but not the best). EXPENSIVE…small portions. Run by a husband and wife team. Lots of parking outside.
