Loved it! There are a lot of perfectly acceptable tourist spots to eat in HHI, many with beautiful views. Those places are all about location, location, location, and the food itself is kind of, well, «meh». If you’ve been to HHI enough times, you know the ones I am speaking of. But we go back every year, as part of our HHI traditions. As we have gotten older though, and our kids a little more sophisticated, we have been trying to get food that is fresher and lighter, tastier and of higher quality. This restaurant fits that bill perfectly! We went early(5pm) and there was literally no other occupied tables. The restaurant had a bit of a beach cottage feel to it, but at its fullest I can’t imagine it would be entirely kid friendly. The menu looked great, but frankly we liked the look of the appetizers more than the main courses, and went with 4 appetizers instead of the main courses. The main courses just looked a little«heavy» to us, but as I said, we are trying to move towards fresher and lighter. The camponata salad(crispy eggplant, artichokes, tomatoes, capers and a wonderful balsamic was definitely the highlight of the evening and easily the best salad I have ever had. We also shared three seafood dishes: calamari, tuna poke, and grilled prawns. I would say of the three, the calamari, dusted in cornmeal, was the one that I could have lived without. It was pretty average calamari, but the brussel sprouts underneath definitely saved it from mediocrity and I was hunting for more of those underneath. The tuna poke, set with guacamole and on top of sushi rice was delicious, and then the prawns with beans mixed with bacon and onions, were fantastic. All in all, a great meal and we would definitely go back(but early, so we could bring the kids again!)

We made a reservation on open table to come to 843 on our first night of vacation in Hilton Head. We were celebrating our anniversary and my birthday. When we arrived, the restaurant was closed. We had to scramble to make other arrangements which was a huge bummer on our first night and such a special occasion. I emailed the restaurant to let them know they needed to update their hours on open table and the owner invited us to come back. She offered a $ 50 gift certificate to put towards our meal. Unfortunately, we weren’t that hungry on the night we returned so we tried to order some cocktails and tapas to spend more than the $ 50 graciously offered. Everything we ordered was good. It seemed like a very homey kitchen where a lot of love went into the dishes and drinks. I saw the owner floating from table to table and it seemed she knew everyone for years. While the restaurant is in a strip mall and surrounded by a parking lot basically, it’s so cute. The décor was really unique and I couldn’t stop looking around admiring all of the little touches.

Was looking for a seafood restaurant and Unilocal kind of let me down. This is no fault of the restaurant’s though. This type of place is more farm to table style. I was hoping that the seafood here would make up for my disappointment. The Scottish salmon was good, very flavorful and the root vegetables were an excellent accompaniment. However, the trout was pretty mediocre and bland, underneath a pile of greens and radish which added nothing to the dish. The ancient grains salad could have used more balsamic because otherwise, the dish is pretty bland. Service was decent, although we were one of 4 tables in the restaurant. Of note, the chef made it a point to visit and check on every table except for ours. Not sure what to make of that. Keep in mind, I am not white, and I’m not dressy. I’ll let the readers draw their own conclusions. Also, entrees are in the 20 – 30 dollar range with appetizers being in the 10 dollar range.

Amazing!!! Went the last night of our trip after many great meals and this blew everything out of the water. We did happy hour on a beautiful airy patio and it was a great deal with most of the dishes being very large(except for the sliders). Fish taco and the grain salad were to die for. A very nice selection of interesting cocktails for five dollars as well. Go! We loved it and will return next time! Best meal by far and highly recommend the happy hour.

Nice atmosphere. Wait stuff friendly but could be more helpful. Salads and starters were delicious. Guacamole burger was underwhelming. Needing seasoning and bun super soggy. Pork chop was decent but would not order a second time. Short ribs were delicious. As for dessert, delicious. Limoncello cake… Yum! Would I be back, I would pry give it a second try. But will hope food is more on point.

Overall– had an awful start here but the rest of the meal was fantastic. This is our last day and tropical storm Bonnie was right over us. We drove around, just looking for somewhere to eat. We saw this place and it didn’t look busy. From there, we encountered the rudest hostess I’ve ever encountered. Stopped in and told that they were only taking reservations in the dining room. The entire dining room was empty except for two tables. They said we could sit at the covered patio. We said that was fine. Only problem is they tried to sit us in the rain. There were other tables open, but four tops. They didn’t want to sit us there because there were only two of us. Finally, our waiter Richard intervened and sat us at the four top *note — after we say, we checked open table and there were open reservations every 15 minutes. More people did come but the restaurant never even reached half capacity.* Richard, our waiter, was fantastic. We had French toast and pancakes and they were delicious. Unfortunately, because of our initial experience, I would be hesitant to go back

Good and inventive food. I did have a problem with the chairs though. At least, the exterior chairs. They are at a perfect 90-degree angle. Super uncomfortable to sit in. The wife enjoyed her meal too. Terrible name, good food. Bring a lawn chair: o

The PERFECT«last supper» for our annual girls’ trip to HHI. Greeted by the owner(Kathy) who is gracious, friendly and the perfect hostess. Despite being a tad early for our reservation she had our table ready. When we saw open seats at the lovely little bar we promptly decided to sit where we’re always more at home(we’re all bartenders). The bartender(Samantha) was fantastic. Knowledgeable, friendly, fast and accurate … what more could you ask for?(Although I do «blame» her for my newly acquired addiction to the cocktail she recommended to me. I’ve been drinking Fancy Free’s up here in Boston FAR too often since I got home!!!) She also had great wine recommendations which paired perfectly with our dinners. Speaking of dinner(!) … the chef(Bill) was on point! We ate FAR too much and enjoyed every overindulgent bite. He’s clearly very talented and, more importantly, obviously passionate about his menu.(If you told me someone would make me crave a tofu dish from 1100 miles away I would’ve called you a big, fat liar, but I stand corrected. I know you think you don’t like tofu, but you like Chef Bill’s version. You do. Trust me, you do.) This may or may not be a controversial comment, but I can also appreciate that this restaurant lends itself to an adults only experience(for dinner at least). I love that HHI is such a family-friendly spot, but it’s nice to enjoy a meal sans highchairs on occasion. See y’all next April!

We celebrated a special occasion here this evening and had a wonderful experience. Every part of our meal was delicious and the staff(Samantha and Kathy specifically) really went the extra mile to show how appreciative they were of us choosing 843 for that special occasion. I had my mind made up before arrival that I was going with the trout but ultimately opted for the special which was a NY strip. The strip was cooked perfectly and the accompaniments to the dish were delicious. The salmon was also fantastic. I will add that I believe the rating should show three $$$ as well(another reviewer noted this) just so some folks aren’t caught off guard that have not been here before. It was a repeat visit for us and we will certainly be back in the future.

The good. Nice place and nice people working. The bad. Understaffed, slow service, overcooked shrimp, crappie beer list and overpriced. Tourist trap.

Love love love the ambiance here! Cute restaurant, several chandeliers, great lighting, light pleasant instrumental music and great service. Food was delicious. Was hoping to sit outside on the patio was weather conditions didn’t permit. Inside is cozy and lovely. I gave this restaurant a 4 because they can do better when it comes on playing and presentation of their dishes.

We had the best food! Eat the guacamole smashed burger! The meat is beef, ribs and brisket which made for a yummy combination. So yummy! The fries were normal fries but they made homemade catchup with an infusion of raspberries. Delicious! The beets were good mixed with cilantro! The lemon cake with fresh fruit was Bathrooms clean, service good!

Super delicious fresh food with amazing flavor. We sat on the patio and it was delightful! The service was spot on. We got the roasted corn and fish tacos and I want to come back and have them again for dinner. Even though the ambiance is on the fancy side, we came in shorts and t-shirts and fit right in for lunch. Definitely recommend!

Food is outstanding. Ambience is straight out of a Southern Living magazine and service was great! I’m not even a pancake person, but the California pancakes(lemon ricotta with strawberries) are most definitely something to write home about. Fluffy, sweet-but not too sweet– and creamy. French toast was delicious and looked like a piece of art. To top it off, they had very tasteful live music outside that they stream inside-2 acoustic guitars that topped off the already very pleasant experience. I wouldn’t change a thing!

Great place! From the time we arrived till we left we were taken care of by the staff. Appetizers were beets and calamari both were fantastic. We had the trout and pork special those too were amazing. No room for dessert. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend this place.

I can see why this place gets so many five stars. Its smallish, with what I’d describe as «fancy» food. The food was good tasting, but expensive and I struggled to find something that wasnt too exotic. If you like bok choi on your half-cooked tuna burger, then this is the place for you. The service was not particularly good. Server messed up two entrees and kept forgetting who had ordered what. They brought a dessert to apologize but it was still a bit silly. One note– I think the $$ indicator is wrong. It should be three. We had 4 people for dinner at 165 dollars not including tip.

I wish we had found this place at the beginning of our vacation. It would have saved me from all the bad food at the tourist traps around town. A casual but elegant restaurant to enjoy an amazing meal. If you are in Hilton Head, this place is a must try!!!

Sweet fancy Moses. One of the top meals of my life. I would strongly suggest reservations. I can imagine the place gets busy. We had 9am slot for 6 adults and 2 kids under 3. Started off the kids with the pancake stack. They are huge. Seriously. Three adults could split them. Huge. Buttery. Fluffy goodness with organic maple syrup. We had to stop ourselves from eating them. The kids loved them. We got two orders of French toast, two of California style pancakes(lemon ricotta in the pancake), strawberry crepes and salmon hash. And let’s not forget the tennis ball sized hush puppies. Delicious doesn’t cover it. I have no words. Huge portions. And, and the bacon. Good lord the bacon. And the mimosas. Tasty and buzzed now that we head to the beach. The manager came by to check on us too. That’s top notch. BTW, they don’t have high chairs or booster seats. So, prepare for that.
