I had the Nacho Del Mar. I highly recommend it. Juicy shrimp and scallops. Their homemade cheese sauce is out of this world

PLEASESTOP. Go anywhere else. This place blows. It is below average Mexican that is trying to have it all. Even the rice and beans were boring. It appears that even those things were pre-made or even purchased from somewhere else. Deeply disappointed.

I’m not sure how anyone could say that the food in this place is bland. My family of four total had dinner here tonight and I have to say we were all pleasantly surprised. The menu has an unbelievable number of options in fact maybe too many. That’s where the negativity ends though. The dishes were original and all tasted fantastic. Lots of flavor and quality ingredients. The homemade guacamole is a MUSTDO. I had the Steak Sancho. My wife had the El Jefe steak. Both were amazing. My kids had a California burrito and a chicken quesadilla. All plates were cleaned and no leftovers to be had. We will definitely come back again.

Not as good as other Mexican restaurants we’ve been to. Food was pretty bland.(I had the chicken fajitas). House margarita was good, decent size for the happy hour price. Was on vacation, but wouldn’t go back if I lived in the area.

If you’re looking for less than average buffet style Mexican food, this is your place. Not that it has a buffet, but the food seems to all be pre made and boring. Fake and thick queso cheese, not fresh and flavorless guacamole(from a tub) not fresh salsa. Also store bought I’m sure. Even the bean dip was disappointing. Not impressed, will not return. I prefer more authentic Mexican like La Husteca down the road. Be wary of places with a HUGE menu. That means there won’t be much fresh food.

Ate there tonight. Food was very good, I liked that they actually served chips and salsa, no extra charge. Which I didn’t think possible in hilton head. I liken it to the«typical» Mexican restaurant. Service was good, marguerita was delicious, and the water was safe to drink! The total meal was only $ 23.00, which if you’re a tourist in hilton head your knee jerk reaction is to think there’s a mistake! I’ll definitely eat there again when I come back next year.

Fast service, pleasant staff and good food. This is a nice Mexican restaurant for lunch or dinner. Table side Santa Fe guacamole is a must. Place is clean and offers inside outside seating. I had the burrito deluxe and my partner had the steak shrimp fajitas both were very good

Not sure why bad reviews. It was a Saturday night, had excellent service, incredible food, inexpensive drinks! My wife and I live in Charlotte and travel a lot. Some of the best Mexican food we have had. Can’t believe we were about the only ones there!

lunch on 10−12−14 .we are from so. calif and there is Mexican food everywhere,…everywhere. I am 65 and I grew up on it. this is only ok, not good. the bland chips were out of a bag I am sure. the $ 6.99EA. bloody marys were the worst I have ever had! I have had better tacos at taco bell. the enchilada sauce tasted burnt. nothing good to say except that the waiter was good and caught a mistake that the kitchen made and it was nice and clean inside. this is Mexican food for Eskimos far from Mexico. I am going back to Mi Tierrita and La Nortena; both very good. Los Jalapenos would NOT survive in so. cal. period.

After reading the reviews regarding this restaurant we still went since it was so highly recommended by the concierge. Epic FAIL! We sat outside since the weather was so nice, and 20 minutes later we are still waiting for service! After both my husband and I went to complain we finally got some water and chips. The food… once we got it was GREAT! For the VERYPOOR service you only get 1 star. Try to do better…

Blech. Stale chips, guac out of the can, cheese dip on my burritto tasted like velveta. I think it actually was just a slice of processed cheese. Maybe the worst Mexican restaurant I’ve eaten at. Not even worth sending the food back. This place must stay in business from all the people visiting Hilton Head for the first time and are looking for a quick meal on their way in or out of town.

I love Mexican food. I always try to find a local favorite on vacation and based on the prior Unilocal reviews I decided we should try this place. It was pretty tasty but far from the best Mexican I’ve had. I had a combo meal that had a taco, beef burrito, and tostaguac. It also came with refried beans and rice. The beef was ok but could have used more seasoning. I really loved the tostaguac though. The guacamole on it was delicious. The service was pretty sub par and I think three different people helped us in addition to our server who basically took out initial order and dropped off our check. My husband had fish tacos which he liked but said he needed more pico de gallo but with our server being MIA he never was able to get any. I would possibly return but I’d also be tempted to try out another Mexican restaurant on the island if I return.

We eat a lot of Mexican food and we loved this place. Had Jalepeno’s special fajitas, guacamole table side, and the black beans were best we ever had. Service was prompt, polite, and quick.

It could have and should have been better. The favors were there, but the range wasn’t. It isn’t true that you have to dumb everything down for Americans, is it? OK, it’s a strip mall Mexican restaurant, quite possibly part of a chain(the menu was too slick and laminated to be a locally-owned one-off). They’re poorly managed, that’s certain; the flickering CFL bulbs(and one out) in the rest room corridor and other crumbling infrastructure details attest to that.(Everything speaks.) The menu is extensive, but mediocre. Execution was adequate(but seriously overdone chicken fingers is inexcusable). The plates were assembled to spec, but remained bland. And they lost a star for having a TV in the dining room. One of our party got too distracted to maintain the conversation. That’s why everybody who puts a TV in a dining room loses a star.

My husband and I tried Los Jalapenos today for the first time. The décor was perfect, the bar looks like a lot of fun, they have an outside bar area. The food was very good with large portions. Service was very good. They passed my husband’s iced tea test(he judges most restaurants by the quality of their iced tea). I had the chile relleno, it was great and the guacamole was yummy. I definitely want to try the table side guacamole next time.

Best Mexican Restaurant in town!!! Love the food and what the new owners and manager have done with the place. Great service, atmosphere and of course great food, you can really taste the freshness on the ingredients, also a lot to choose from, they have big variety in the menu… Definitely a must try!
