I ate at Hingham Beer Works last night with my family and we had a bad food experience. The wait was an hour which we did not mind waiting for because it was a busy Saturday night and we thought that the food was going to be good. People we knew spoke highly of the restaurant and we wanted to check it out. Anyways, we ordered our food. I ordered the salmon cakes in the small plates section of the menu and they tasted like«hockey pucks.» They were so dense and there was barely any salmon in them. If the cost of an item, like salmon does not fit in the food budget of the restaurant they should not serve them. I basically paid for a flour tasting cake. It was not worth the price because it was mostly filler that I was eating. Also, my mom ordered the salmon burger and it tasted dry, was flavorless, and was not worth eating. Lastly, my dad ordered a burger and he said it was just mediocre. In addition, there was no silverware on the table when we got to our table. Are we suppose to eat with our hands??? I wish I had waited an hour at another restaurant that had better food. I was very disappointed with the food and felt as though I got ripped off. I do not plan on going back to that restaurant in the future. I should have received my money back for this horrible food.

I have been here several times and was always pleased with the food. Service has never been top notch. I just recently went and was shocked at how terrible it was. We were seated quickly, order was placed quickly, but the food took excessively long. We ordered the calamari app.(Priced comparable to other restaurants). The portion was ridiculously small, and should have been half the price they charged. My husband joked they should have used a smaller plate. His meal(fish and chips) came out several minutes before mine(and he said it was just ok, and the fries, fish and cole slaw was all piled on top of each other). I ordered the salmon burger. Although the salmon itself was very good, the bun was stale, it had two measly slices of cucumber and a very small amount of the sauce, that was quickly soaked up by the stale bun. The French fries were disgusting. The overall appearance was pathetic(even a garnish of lettuce would have made it look more appealing!) I’m assuming they are working on their service as we had several of the waitstaff bring our meals/drinks out, and a waitress, who was not ours, asked if our meal was ok. So I can’t complain about the service. But not sure I’ll be returning for the terrible food.

When will I learn? Good view, beer and wings. That’s where it ends. Waitress was miserable, terrible service, bun on sandwich stale and they forgot the ranch on the chicken ranch sandwich. Food on floor, door slamming to outside patio whole time. Lots of kids. Boo.

Wings are horrible. Nachos with chili were decent. Potato cheddar bacon spring rolls were mediocre. Prices are way high for what you actually get

Best salmon around! Steak tips are a very close second. So many delicious beer options. Fried pickles are great and the patio has a beautiful view of the harbor. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I will be back!

This place never fails to fail. The service is terrible and the food takes forever. How is it possible to wait an hour for lunch when the restaurant isn’t even that busy?! The only reason this place stays in business is because there aren’t many other options. After waiting for over an hour for our food(which had clearly been sitting under the warmers for an extended amount of time based on the condition the food was delivered in), the manager didn’t even bother to come out and apologize after we asked numerous times where our food was and they didn’t comp anything. This place needs a serious overhaul. On top of all of that there was a chunk of food on the floor in the main entrance with ants crawling all over it. I don’t want to imagine what the kitchen looks like if they don’t even care to keep customer visible areas clean.

I came here yesterday for a glass of wine. I sat at the end of the bar closest to the kitchen. I was really grossed out to see that they have their«spill bucket» on top of the bar in direct line of sight for someone sitting at the bar. For those not in the industry, a spill bucket is a container where the servers dump any liquid, straws, fruit etc into while lining up the glasses for the bartender to wash. It’s gross… I asked someone who looked like a manager if he could empty it as it was overflowing. He gave me a bit of an attitude and said«yeah, that’s what I’m about to do». And he proceeded to pour pitchers of hot water in the bucket so as to melt the ice down and be able throw out the trash. He did this right in front of me. Also, sitting at the end of the bar I was bumped into by just about every server coming out of the kitchen. The area isn’t a tight squeeze… It’s just like they’re not used to someone sitting at the end of the bar and couldn’t quite navigate the corner. I don’t know why I’m surprised. I never really have a good experience here, I just figured a quick glass of wine would be uneventful.

Nice atmosphere over the water but place needs major improvement. Server was kind, service was slow and food was average at best. I honestly could cook better than they did and I don’t even cook. I actually suck at it. Mashed potatoes obviously had been sitting around a while and the green beans must be just sitting in water all day seeing they were blah. Steak tips were ok and were the highlight of the meal but truely just ok. Wouldn’t waste my time going back.

Typical of beer works lately. My birthday coupon expired 2 days ago and they won’t let me have my free dessert, yup just a dessert. Went to Not Your Average Joe’s yesterday, my birthday coupon had expired, they honored it and I got a free meal! Ya a free meal! No dessert for me. Bad business, if I was a month late, I would not of even had asked. Not the same place it was when it opened in Hingham.

Delicious. I had the burger and fires, So much better than Wahlburgers. My friend had the Southwest chicken. We shared the Potoato spring rolls. The Blueberry beer was yummy and LOVE the small size. The Snowball was AMAZE. Wiatstaff as good as it gets. Will be back. Good prices too

I’ve been here multiple times because the location is hard to beat and have been disappointed every time. Between service that is inattentive and disinterested and food that, on its best day, can best compared to an Applebees or TGIFridays, I have never left with a positive impression of this location. That being said, its not a bad spot to grab a beer while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant…

Always a nice reliable family restaurant. The patio is nice if it’s warm out. Food is always fine, but nothing to write home about, and prices are about average. Portions are moderate. They seem to run out of ingredients a lot, so make sure to ask your server if there is anything on the menu that is unavailable. I like the turkey tips and the chicken stir fry. My husband likes the nachos. The beer is great: Watermelon Ale in the summer is delicious, and the Back River Red is great if it hasn’t run out. If in doubt, try a flight. If I find myself wandering around the Shipyard not sure where to go, I opt for here. Moderate food at moderate prices is always a safe bet.

Honestly compare to Boston Beer Works near Fenway, this place sucks. used to be good buy it has went down hill in the past years!!! Yes, they obviously have good beer but they need to either train their chefs or just hire new ones because their food quality is extremely poor! I live across the street from Beer Works so I used to be a regular here back in the day; Now I always get food somewhere else and go to beer works for the beer ONLY. — I also only sit at the bar because their actual service when you’re seated at a booth/table is not good at all!

Pretty busy place on a fri sat or sun. Bar is big and a seat is often available. Tvs all around the bar. Place is huge but there is usually a wait. Outside seating is awesome. It does get windy sometime because the harbor. Beer is awesome. Great selection. Will return here again.

Good beer, but disgusting food. This is by far the worst beer works I’ve been to, which is a shame because it has a beautiful view of the water. Really disappointed.

Flabbergasted that a place like this can even keep its doors open… but I have one guess why: the Wahlburger across the street has an average wait time of 45 minutes, and people are hungry. So they stop in, thinking they can get a burger here. That’s what we did, after all. My fiancé and his parents and I checked into Hingham Beer Works and were promptly seated. This place is HUGE and even though there were quite a few tables seated, there were still plenty more empty. The acoustics in here are horrid: it’s very loud and you can hear every conversation within 20 feet of you. If you must go here, I’d suggest sitting on the patio where at least you get a nice view. Here’s what we ordered: mother-in-law: fish and chips fiancé: fish and chips father-in-law: chicken sandwich me: Hanover Street burger(«Provolone & Mozzarella /Roast Tomato /Red Onion Marmalade») I’d read the other Unilocal reviews which scream of overcooked burgers, some even charred, so I politely emphasized that I’d like mine rare(normally I’d get medium rare). The fish and chips plates were fine, apparently. I had a bite of my fiancé’s fish and it was pretty good, if not a little overseasoned. The chicken sandwich was dry. My burger was likely the worst of all. First, the«roast tomato» was a standard roma tomato that had been thrown on the grill and served still cold. How this is possible, I don’t know. The skin was barely warm. The provolone/mozzarella promised was almost non-existent. And YEP my burger was overcooked, well done, and charred. Had I not been so hungry, I would have sent it back. We never got any drink refills, and our waitress wasn’t around when we needed some mayo for that chicken sandwich and some malt vinegar for the fries. Another very polite waitress helped us out with that. Paid and left without a glimmer of anything worthwhile. I went into this optimistic. I really do try to give«struggling» businesses a shot. But the Unilocal reviews in this case, do not lie. Mediocre food. Sorry excuse for a burger. Uninspiring meal experience altogether.

DOWNGRADE SERVICE: 2STARS I wish I knew what her name was but she had no name tag and the receipt just said«Server: Team 8». If she wasn’t so young I would swear she had dementia. FLIESBUZZINGAROUNDINTERIOR: 1STAR Maybe because the doors are open so often with so many folks seated outside. RANCHOSHUEVOS: 1.5STARS Carnival Cruises do excellent Ranchos Huevos for no upcharge, so I have something to compare against. This was not Ranchos Huevos. The«three egg omlette» was so obviously overcooked I don’t see how it left the kitchen, and then was carried by another person who also didn’t notice it. It had nothing chopped into it. It had no salsa on it. Really, come one. Whiff.

This is one of those places I’ve been before and was unhappy but figured it was just an off day. Not the case. I’m kind of over it. Last time I was here was this past week. I ordered a watermelon beer which tasted like a Bud Light garnished with a slice of watermelon. For an appetizer we got the stuffies, which were one of the July specials. Absolutely no clam meat and all bacon flavored(like, bacon bits) breadcrumbs. Just awful. Lunch was a boring ceasar side salad and the tuna tacos off the small plate menu. I specifically asked the waiter if the tuna was sushi grade, meaning seared or raw. He said yes. Of course it came out cooked all the way through and dry as a bone. Nothing terrible about the service here but the food is pathetic. I’d rather wait in line at Wahlburgers.

Another chance? Shame on me. Who are the dingbats in white shirts and ties that can’t walk around without each other? They are just playing. Doing nothing. Licking and sticking papers to the office door– that’s right management, roll back your video footage. If in fact these two are«managers» it would explain a lot. The only thing they managed to do is ignore our table the multiple times that they walked by. In fact, every person that walked past us made zero eye contact or effort to make sure we were doing ok. It was painful. How do you staff this place? «Here, fog this mirror and you’re in» I’d love to hold a sales training meeting here… it would be like Glen Gary Glen Ross… you’re all fired. Honesty the only reason I am here is its the only spot open in the Shipyard right now. Nachos. 20 min wait. Fail. Does the mgmt even read these? Take some pride in your job. Be on point no matter what… right? Seriously, what keeps the lights on at your business? CUSTOMERS. TAKECAREOFTHEM. It’s always a wait for a server. A wait for food. This place is dead. Nachos aren’t rocket science. Come on! Then they show up cold and looking like an extra from The Walking Dead. If I ever step foot in here again, it’s because it’s the end of the world and I’m scavenging for bad food… and worse service. Please close your doors. You’re a disgrace to the food service industry.

Consider this your warning! Eat somewhere else! This restaurant is filthy, disgusting and abhorrent. Cleanliness is not something that they comprehend. The service is almost non-existent. The hostess was rude and waitstaff untrained. What is so hard about getting us silverware? The food, while mostly edible and I’m assuming I haven’t received food poisoning from it(yet), was something that I could have thrown together at home with a bucket of salt and some week old produce. I won’t eat here for free. What should have been a quick and painless 30 minutes to grab a burger was an hour and a half of disbelief and shock. Also, stop serving pink mayonnaise. What is that?
