I really am not surprised, and do not feel bad that Borders is closing. I feel bad for the workers, but not the corporate persons who set the prices. How can they expect customers to pay 30−50% more for their products when compared to Amazon’s pricing, even including shipping(and you get free shipping with Amazon if you spend $ 25). And it’s not like you’re giving extra money to a little ma/pap bookstore. It’s highway robbery of customers. If I wanted to spend a little extra money on a book, I would go to Anderson’s in downtown Downers. Regardless of my disdain for Border’s, I attended the first day of their liquidation sale. Blu-rays were 40% off, and when compared to Amazon’s pricing the savings was minimal($ 1-$ 2). Now what does that say? Most everything else in the store including DVDs, CDs, books, and games were anywhere from 10−30% off. Most books were 10%, DVDs and CDs were 20%, and romance books for some reason were 30%. Every time I found something I wanted, Amazon beat the sale price, by A LOT. So, I think you catch my drift. Again, very sorry to all the people and their families who lost their jobs, but I cannot support a company whose prices are this outrageous. I understand Borders has much higher overhead costs in order to pay higher rent for high traffic locations, keep the lights on, and keep the stores clean for customers, unlike Amazon, but they were still asking unreasonable prices.

This is my favorite Borders ever! This has always been my Borders of choice, especially when I lived in the suburbs. The store itself is really big and went through a remodel several years ago to add in the Seattle’s Best coffee shop and small seating area for reading, homework, laptopping, etc. The store is always clean and very well organized. During the holiday season, this place is torn apart by customers everyday(especially since it’s open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.!) but somehow the employees always manage to keep everything super clean and neat. I love the selection and the way the displays are organized. The tables change often and a lot of the employees at this store make recommendations and make tables of current best-sellers. All of the employees are always very gracious and helpful and I have never had a problem finding someone to help me find anything or open the DVD/CD cabinet. Seriously, my favorite Borders ever.
