Very delicious meal overall. Sole and pork were excellent. Guests had salads and enjoyed them. I had cream cheese starter which was excellent. Not quite as please with the service. The waitress kept trying to remove my not finished appetizer dish and I felt very rushed to the point that I just put what I had on a small plated so she would leave me alone(i might add that at no time was she impatient, I think she was just inexperienced) and she was very skimpy with olive oil when I asked for some for the bread. I never even used the oil she put on the plate since there was really no point in doing so. For dessert, the chocolate crème brûlée was delicious, but the bread pudding was a big disappointment. It was more like dry French toast. There was no cream sauce, but if you looked real hard you could see a very small amount of berry sauce in the bottom of the cup. The restaurant was on the upper side of good but not excellent. u probably should have voiced my concerns with the waitress and manager, but with guests that is not easy to do discretely.

My boyfriend and I went here last night and had the skatefish and the scallops. Holy wow! Both of us love to travel and having been all over the country the meals we had last night both qualified to be in our top 5 of meals we’ve ever had! If you haven’t tried this place I highly recommend getting a reservation for tonight.

Bruschetta was some of the best we’ve had; the chef made an off-menu vegetarian option for us which was delicious. Likewise the pork and mushroom ragu was amazing. Quaint family owned and operated restaurant. Husband and wife team with their son as the head chef. Good location for an intimate/romantic dinner as the restaurant was busy but very quiet.

Came here last month for the first time. Had been wanting to try it for some time. Was a bit skeptical due to the limited menu items but I have to say the food was excellent. Perfectly cooked. I had their lobster cakes and a carrot gnocchi bolognese dish that was amazing. Certainly pricey but if you want $ 5 dollar dinners then head to McDonald’s. Great ambiance and best all around fine dining in the area.

I ordered a salad from the menu for $ 12 that was supposed to come with carrots, onions, blue cheese, eggs, and bacon. When the server brought out our dinner, the salad she brought was only greens with a few walnuts and a couple dried cranberries. She said that the menu had changed and my salad(that was written on the menu) was no longer available but this was the same price! Seriously, it was just a pile of greens.

We have been back several times since my last review. It is safe to say that this is my absolute favorite restaurant. The service is wonderful every time we go. The food is perfect each time as well! This little place is, by far, the best in northwest Indiana!

Bistro 54 continues to reign as the best fine-dining establishment in Northwest Indiana. Consistently superior food quality and presentation with excellent service in a beautiful setting. If you’re a foodie MAKE A RESERVATION — Bistro 54 is worth the trip from Illinois. Bistro 54 staff — PLEASE make crème brûlée a regular on the dessert menu — it’s one of the best in the region.

good spot in NW Indiana. Nice setting, menu is a bit limited. Last night they had a filet, breaded whitefish, breaded pork, and scallops on the menu. They need to add more, perhaps healthier choices. Salad was excellent, all local, fresh ingredients. I will try again, but will call first to see what is on the menu.

I took my fiancé here on Valentine’s and it was amazing. I had reservations and they were honored right on time, however we did get there early and were immediately taken care of, they even offered us a table that was open just because they didn’t want us to wait. But it was more than alright. We didn’t mind a bit as the place is beautiful inside and very very cozy. The bar is small but fully stocked and the martini I had while we waited was just Devine. The waiting staff was amazing both before and after we were sat. The food came out quickly, hot and exactly what we ordered. I would recommend bistro 54 to all my family and friends and will absolutely be going back. Loved everything about it.

Delicious, comfortable, quaint yet very elegant. Have visited on numerous occasions and have always been surprisingly satisfied in all aspects of the experience. We feel lucky to have Bistro 54 as part of Hobart.

Every time we visit this charming establishment, we are amazed. The ambience of the restaurant, with its softly-lit rooms and and relaxing mix of background music, was just the beginning. The hostess and bartender greeted everyone who entered with genuine warmth, and they continued to be attentive to the needs of their guests. To say we enjoyed the food is an understatement. Everything we had, from the tuna tartar to dessert, incorporated a blend of flavors that pretty much left us speechless. The presentation was lovely, too. The chef did not only prepare delectable dishes; he, too, was warm and personable like the rest of the staff. Going to Bistro 54 is like being welcomed into someone’s home… and then some. This little gem is the best restaurant in NW Indiana.

Tonight was our 2nd trip to 54 Main Bistro in Hobart. I think it’s safe to say that we will probably never have a bad experience at this little gem of an eatery. Rather than go into the obvious about how wonderful the service is(and it IS), and how divine the food is(and ITIS-LOL), I’ll just say: do yourselves a favor, and treat yourselves to probably the BEST meal you will ever have! My only regret is having waited so long to eat there. We’re already calling this Our Place, as we plan on being regulars. Thanks again, 54 Main Bistro, for another WONDERFUL dining experience!

Had an amazing pre-Valentine’s Day meal with my wife last night. This was our first time dining here, and we were completely blown away. The restaurant is a converted house sitting comfortably on the beautiful Lake George in Hobart. Immediately, we were impressed with the character of this place. Nice and dim, with a faint flickering of candlelight to illuminate the tiny, romantic tables. Our host was super nice and offered genuine conversation on our way to the table. Not the usual rehearsed idle chat over and over. Even the man tending bar looked up from his martini shaking to greet us with a beaming smile. Our server, Linda was incredibly attentive, popping in and out of the kitchen to pay compliments to the chef and staff from ourselves as well as numerous other diners. We even heard her dish out compliments of her own, like«you guys are doing so great tonight, that looks beautiful.» We were famished, so we each started with an appetizer of organic roasted squash bruschetta. Wow! It was perfectly toasted, perfectly seasoned, even the perfect temperature. This must be a hit, because we viewed countless orders of it making its way out of the kitchen. For entrees, we both opted for 16-hour braised pork shoulder with sweet potato gnocchi. Linda assured us it would melt in our mouths, and she was not lying. To call it tender is definitely selling it short. This stuff literally melted on your tongue. Again, perfectly prepared. Every bite offered a new delicious flavor we hadn’t noticed in the previous one. In a different setting, I would have been tempted to lick the bowl clean. For dessert, I chose the dark truffle dusted chocolate lava cake. My wife, the self– professed cheesecake addict, unsurprisingly chose the strawberry cheesecake. The concept of mushroom infused chocolate piqued my curiosity, and it was an incredible pairing. Who’d have thought? Upon her first bite of cheesecake, my wife covered her mouth and mumbled an ecstatic obscenity into her palm before cleaning her plate and dubbing it the best she’s ever had. I stuck with water, but the wife was very fond of the house Moscato. While dining, we noticed an odd looking wooden cask positioned on the corner of the bar that was getting a lot of attention. We asked Linda about it, and found out it was a 30 year aged whisky they were using for their signature Manhattan. My wife immediately ordered one, insisting I try a sip. Although I’m not a drinker, it was so smooth and sweet. In closing, I urge you to give this lovely place a try. It is quite affordable, casual, and you will not find more genuine, professional people who take pride in their product and their work. The setting is as if you walked into a dollhouse — picturesque, with plenty of windows and a great view of the lake. I honestly can rate Bistro 54 flawless.

We had a very wonderful experience in this place from the service to the delectable food. I’m impressed by the owners’ idea to transform the main floor of a charming house into a restaurant with sort of romantic ambiance & a homey feel. It’s in between casual & fine dining. Although the menu is limited and that’s because they change it every week, the selection of entries is good & has variety to it. The server explained everything about their food, the organic & fresh ingredients that they used, and even made recommendations. Our entries didn’t disappoint, they’re flavorful & satisfying. Reservation is advisable. I’d say we’d probably go back there but at an earlier time since they have the tendency to be out of main ingredients due to customer demand. We came in at 8:00 pm and they already took the Grouper Special off the menu although substituted it for something else.

You can never go wrong by choosing Bistro 54. Their menu constantly changes and you can tell the food was made with a lot of pride and love. The restaurant is super cozy and perfect for a date. This time, I had the Gulf Shrimp risotto with grilled brussel sprouts. For some reason Bistro 54 is really good at giving the perfect portion. They give you enough food so you can thoroughly enjoy their work, but not so much that you feel like you have to shove it down your throat and end up overly full. The shrimp were huge and the risotto was super creamy. The Brussel sprouts were cooked through but not mushy. The drizzle was balsamic vinegar was the perfect touch for me to leave excited about coming back the net time I’m in town. One of the specials during this trip was the filet mignon(a staple menu item), served with potato wedges and gorgonzola cream, topped with fois gras(optional). I know not everyone likes fois gras for ethical reasons or simply do not like the taste or texture, but it really does add that extra umph to the already beautifully cooked filet mignon. Their drink menu changes often as well. Since it was around the holidays, they served a bourbon egg nog martini. I’m not a big bourbon person, but whoever designed this drink is a genius. I don’t think there are more than 30 seats in the restaurant, so make sure you make reservations.

Food was very good. Service was excellent. We sat on the back deck and it was just what the doctor ordered after a long day. Very relaxing. Loved the cheese plate and the soup. I had the meatballs which were delicious. If we had one thing we weren’t 100% satisfied with it would be the trout. The fish was very good but the breading was too thick for our taste. We will definitely be back.

Went here for my birthday recently. What a nice little gem in downtown Hobart! Started with the hoisin duck wings. They were delicious with a bit of a kick. One person at our table didn’t care of them, but that’s probably because she said they were a bit fatty/greasy/gamey — for me, that’s one of the allures of duck versus chicken. I had the walleye, which was delicious and flavorful with a fantastic sauce drizzled nearby. The waiter gave me no hassle substituting the squash/onion/mushroom medley for the broccoli, much to my delight. My companions were also happy with their meals. The bite of filet I had from a friend was medium rare and cooked to perfection. Like some other Unilocalers, the parking was a real pain, especially with some snow on the ground — the only legal place we could find to park was in the bank parking lot, next to signs saying we would be towed, and then we had to walk up an incline in the snow to get to the restaurant.

GREATPLACE. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Bistro 54 is located in a house in Holbart, IN. I followed the suggestions of other Unilocalers and there is a reason this place is rated número uno in the area. Their menu is rather small but no matter what, you’ll find something you like, and it will be the best meal you’ve ever had. Their meat is all organic, they fly in fresh fish from Hawaii on a daily basis. Their chef is top notch and the owners and staff are all super friendly and welcoming. They also have a great bar with local whiskeys, bourbons, etc. Do yourself a favor and have a meal here, it will be your new favorite restaurant, I guarantee it.
