This is a real good little place to purchase your alcoholic products. Although it is a small store, squeezed into a small strip mall with a pizza place, a Chinese restaurant, a family restaurant, and a couple others, it is stocked with a surprisingly complete and deep selection of beer, wine and spirits. It also benefits from a friendly staff, especially a knowledgeable man named Andres, who provides good customer service along with wine knowledge. The location of this store really works for me, since it’s close to where my mother lives, and a day with my mother is enough to propel me into the nearest liquor store. As a Chicagoan, I also appreciate that there is plenty of parking, and that the prices are incredibly reasonable. Of course, Indiana still insists on protecting its citizens and visitors from the rampages of alcohol-induced sin, so you can’t buy liquor on Sunday. Yes, really. It just means that you have to stock up on Sunday, in case you want to have a beer while watching Chicago baseball teams lose miserably to other teams. One nice thing about the selection at Wise Guys is the inclusion of Michigan and Indiana wineries and breweries. If you haven’t tried wines from Oliver Winery in Bloomington, you’re missing out. St. Julian Winery from Michigan and others are represented as well. Along with good flavor, the prices are very reasonable. Reasonable prices, good service, and lots of parking. What’s not to like? On your next trip to Indiana, get off I-65 at 61st Street and visit Wise Guys. You’ll be glad you did. Just don’t do it on a Sunday.
