No good, was looking for something in the way of BBQ, food was greasy, flavorless, heart burn inducing, obviously not fresh. Total disappointment. Even the mac and cheese was terrible, would prefer Velveeta.

Terrible delivery service. One entrée was not as ordered and was unable to eat it They promised a replacement would arrive in under 30 minutes… it failed to arrive after 40 minutes and I told them not to bother. The one item that arrived correctly was decent, but not at all memorable.

Backyard Bistro has been a favorite brunch spot for my roommate and I for years now. We were very excited to get our fill of pretzel bread and macaroni and cheese this morning, but when we got there and were very disappointed to find that they were closed. The website and door both stated that they open at 10am on Saturday mornings, but when we got there at 10:15 the place was deserted. They have been plagued by disorganization for years now. The food has always been good but the service has always been below average.

Decent place, decent food, decent service. Definitely on my return list.

Solid little mini-diner type place. Good food. However, the rate in which one is served the aforementioned good food is literally unfathomable. It is so impossibly slow that it’s almost impressive and should be rewarded. For instance, the cheddar cheese on your omelette will be considered«aged cheddar» by the time you consume it, which you may know certain aged cheddars can command a hefty expense. So consider yourself lucky.

I’m done with this place! Came in for brunch and it took them 40+ minutes to bring out an order of two eggs with cheese and home fries. And to be 100% honest, it was really nothing special at all. It was not busy at all there, and the server(who was a nice lady) told me it was because they opened late. It really doesn’t matter, I will never go there again unless they get completely new management, 40 minutes for 2 eggs is just unheard of.

Cute little place. My boyfriend had the Hoboken and I had the Buffalo chicken sandwich. Both were really fresh and the buffalo chicken was very spicy. Some buffalo chicken is half breading but their breading was just enough and deliciously spicy. The coleslaw didn’t taste like much but the staff was very friendly. This wouldn’t be my first choice for food if I was in the area but it was a pleasant experience nonetheless.

Terrible food. The ketchup container had ketchup all over it. I didn’t want to touch it with my hands. I ordered a hamburger medium with avocado. The avocado was hard as a rock. The burger meat was dry and well done. That must have been the reason why it took 25 minutes to get me the food. The coleslaw was also awful. The only thing that was enjoyable was my can of sprite.

Not bad. Fresh sandwiches. Decent prices. Pretty good cole slaw. And I don’t like cole slaw.

ORDERTAKEOUTINSTEADOFDININGIN! This place got renovated in the last year and we swang by to see what was up. Definitely not the service. So so slow! Sandwiches took at least 40 minutes to come out. We had to ask for water twice. Every table not occupied was dirty. That said, we will be ordering take out from now on, especially considering the delivery person seemed really busy. The pretzel bread is delicious. The food really is quite good and it’s good value for your money. It’s something different that you can’t get anywhere else, but do not make the mistake of making the long trip to wait for your food for 40 minutes.

I live really close to this place and I thought it was such a cute little place — I have actually been here 3 times being optimistic that the service would improve, it never did. The first time service was just EXTREMELY slow, but the staff wasnt working — they were on their cell phones and just hanging out. We at least got our food. I came here for brunch which is just horrible — we walked in and were the only ones in the place — however again took the staff about 15 – 20 minutes to get us coffee and water orders(not even the drinks but just to come up to us and ask what we would like!) We placed our orders at that time as well. Over the next 25 minutes literally 3 sets of people came in sat down and waited to be served and it never happened and they walked out — we at least got our food — and it was actually good! The third time — my cousin came into town again waited our 15 minutes and when I placed my order for eggs benny they had no hollandaise sauce we were the first people in the place on sunday morning and there was no hollandaise sauce for brunch — WHAT!?! I couldn’t stay. Now since the food is decent and very reasonable I would maybe suggest ordering to go? — But I just tried to order and they were out of hollandaise sauce again today This is the first 1 Star I have ever given :(

My GF lives around the corner and she turned me on to this place. Thanks Melissa :) I am a firm believer that happy people make happy food and when you see a Rasta in the back making the food you know you are in good hands. We order out from here at least once a week. The pretzel bread for the paninis is crazy good. I usually get the«Bronx» panini. It has some serious love inside. I should also mention that I eat every bite every time. I feel comfortable giving this place 4 stars. My other recommendation would be to only order out from here. It looks awkward to eat inside there giving the size atmosphere.

I love backyards bistro! I live around the corner so I usually just call and pick it up. The dining room is kinda small and awkward, so I would recommend either delivery or take out. Everything here is fantastic! If I could have it every day I would! My absolute favorite is the Santa Fe sandwich: Grilled chicken, bacon, avocado, Swiss and BBQ sauce on a grilled Italian hero. They slice the chicken really thin, which I love! I can’t stand huge fat pieces of chicken in a sandwich. They are big sandwiches, sliced on an angle, plenty for lunch and dinner(or dinner and a snack!) I also enjoy the Caesar salad: romaine, plenty of cheese, crispy croutons, and the same thin sliced chicken… mmm! The dressing has the right balance of cheese and tang. The coleslaw that comes with the sandwiches on the side is not so good, so I usually pay the extra $ 3 and upgrade to fries. That $ 3 really does get you a LOT of fries! My roommate and I usually split ‘em. Warning: the perfect time for backyards bistro is Sunday evening, when you don’t want to cook and get ready for the week and are still laying in your couch in your PJ’s. They close at 3pm on Sunday :(I have called many a time, mouth watering, only to be disappointed they are closed!

I proclaimed that I wanted a burger the other day. I think my roommate almost had a heart attack… because that encompasses two of the foods I fear: red meat and carbohydrates. So she suggested this place. We hiked our way up here. It’s cool that you can totally customize your bugers/sandwiches or make your salads into a wrap. I ended up, in typical Chrissy C fashion, ordering a portobello mushroom«burger» with avocado, bacon and jalapenos. It came on a bun, but who needs bread? I got a side caesar salad too.(It was leg day at the gym, I deserved it.) Roomie got a salad with steak and mozzarella and an Arnold Palmer. My food was very good, the place was just empty and sweltering-ly hot. Our waitress was nice, and attentive, it just took her a while to notice the only customers in the place. I think most of their business is from delivery or carryout orders. I’d say overall, they have a very varied menu. I’d probably order from here to go, rather than sitting inside.

I don’t think I’d go out of my way to eat here, but I live half a block away, so I frequent Backyards Bistro a lot. The french toast crème brûlée is great. However, the prices are higher than Stacks and the breakfast food isn’t as good. For lunch and dinner, they specialize in pretzel bread for sandwiches.

First of all, the only reason that we didn’t go with 5 stars here is beacuse the heat was broken … had it not been for that then Backyards was certainly a 5 star experience. The Duo had been jonesin to make it over the the bistro for quite some time but never seemed to make it happen. After sleeping in late one day we were up for lunch and decided to make it happen. We entered to an empty spot excluding our server John. The dude knew his menu and couldn’t have been more helpful. Coffee for me, iced coffee for her and two french onion soups to start. We both agreed that it was by far one of the best soups we’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying. I even learned that the best part of any French Onion soup is the crusty hard cheese around the rim … thanks to my better half. We slid into our sandwiches nicely … The Eden for her and The Baltimore for him. She was quick to remark on her Eden … don’t be fooled by the name, it is a hefty sandwich with a perfect pesto but how about a lil more avocado? As for my Baltimore … I opted for this ‘wich because I needed the Pretzel Bread(which is up to all the hype) … I was hesitant about the cream cheese, mainly because I’m not a fan. John assured me that it wasn’t a serious component but necessary for the experience. I could not have agreed more. Oh yea, the fries are spot on incredible. John had mentioned that they do a serious take out business, which is why their was no one else sitting with us that day. Sure enough, we witnessed approximately a dozen orders go out in the hour or so we dined. But ya know what, he was a damn good server so you should sit down for lunch one day … we’ll surely be back.

Solid Sunday brunch place. I ordered the breakfast burrito, brunchmate had the«Vermonster». Both portions were enormous, so you will not come away without a full stomach from this place. Interesting location in the western part of midtown Hoboken in an area surrounded by condo developments that didn’t even exist 10 years ago. Has very little competition. Unfortunately, this place is a little tight. There doesn’t seem to be that much space around the tables. This was a mid-August Sunday brunch and the restaurant was very quiet, but then again, the locals are highly likely to be away for Summer weekends, so this can’t be assumed to be typical. Not sure how they can solve for this and use the space a bit more effectively.

Continues to impress. Friggin awesome breakfast — eggs benedict on pretzel bread is heaven, and the crème brûlée french toast goes great with it. Also tried their Turkey/cream cheese sandwich on pretzel bread. Man, it worked. Really looking forward to trying more.

Nothing that hasn’t already been said, but the unassuming exterior is more than made up for by the simply prepared, generously portioned, delicious food.

I really loved this place. It’s kind of like a mini Hoboken version of the LA diners«The 101 Coffee Shop»( ) and«The Brite Spot»( ) sans the movie star sightings. Four of us went for brunch with two bottles of cheap champagne and had a great time. Oh yeah, they’re BYOB. They have a nice menu and the food was pretty great. We shared the cheesy pretzel bread w/honey mustard sauce as an appetizer — I think they should toast the bread as it seems they microwaved it. The best part was the portobello burger w/spinach and garlic aioli; thick french fries. Probably the best portobello burger I’ve had. At very least it rivals the one from The Shake Shack( ) We’ll definitely be back.
