We’ve been coming here for over 20 years. The taste has always good, but the VALUEISNOLONGERTHERE. Service is usually slow and sporatic. Sometimes your steamed rice is hot, other times lukewarm. Tea oftentimes is merely lukewarm as well. The décor has not changed in decades. Bathrooms are gas station cleanliness — definitely in need of a remodel. DON’T look inside the kitchen! The clutter and grease will turn your stomach — typical Chinese chaos. Serving sizes have shrunk, which males it only 2 stars. We used to come here every few months, when in town. But not so often anymore, since their portions began to SHRINK. I’d rather pay a little more and leave with a full stomach, knowing that I received a good value for my money. Especially with Chinese food, when you’re always hungry a few hours later!

I came here with my husband after we couldn’t decide what to make for dinner. Our first time here was decent and we had no complaints. The second time however was extremely slow service, terrible hot tea, incorrectv orders, and cold food.

I have been to this place a few times before and I hafta to say my experiences were just so much better. I don’t know what happen! Makes me a bit sad. This is the first time for reviewing them on Unilocal.Lets talk about customer service. it is great, makes you feel welcome. the waitresses do kinda seem to come to your table a little too often though, its a good thing but it becomes a little pesty after every 3 – 5 mins. I sat near the window, a window that the screen was damaged and broken where insects could come in through. now lets talk about the food. The food seems to have been flavor-less. I ordered the lunch special that included a soup of your choice. I chose the egg flower soup. For my plate I chose steamed rice, chow mein and cashew chicken. Steamed rice I won’t complain about. The chow mein was just horrible. The cabbage and chicken did not make a difference in it. NO flavor and SO greasy. Medium sized noodle, seems like plain cooked spaghetti. The cashew chicken I feel should be called celery chicken instead. It had way too much celery that was cut fairly huge, it should be chopped(way better idea) in my opinion. I think I was lucky to get around 2 cashews in there! Overall the chicken tasted like cumin/dark curry spice flavor, which was bland overall. The soup was just not good. Tasted somewhat like raw egg white. I wanted the food to be good and hoping to find the flavors that I tasted before, but it was just not there. Well I was eating, the owner was outside smoking away and you could definitely smell it. I eventually went to go pay and the owner came out of the kitchen talking to the waitresses saying she was so tired, etc and that she had to cook. Meantime she had both of her hands on her head, touching her hair. Then she went back into the kitchen. I don’t know if she ever washed her hands, when she went back from smoking and or touching her head/hair. :/The best thing I had there was a fountain drink. I still left a tip for the waitresses. It is going to be tough decision to give this place a second chance in my book.

I’ve eaten here twice since moving to Hollister and the food isn’t great. The fried rice doesn’t seem like it has been fried at all. The chow mein is also a miss with an odd taste and texture. I think the cook/owner should sample and learn some of the techniques/recipes other Chinese restaurants use to prepare their dishes. I admit that I may be a little bias coming from San Jose where there are many options for excellent Chinese food. Luckily for Cheung Sheng, San Jose is far enough away that Hollister residents might settle when they don’t want to make the drive for something better.

4 stars reviews. Food is always good! Note, fried rice isn’t really fried. Service is good but waitstaff & hostess need to coordinate so that one or the other isn’t at the table every 5 minutes. Also offer knives when orders arrive.

I had the worst Chinese food here. While waiting for my order the owner was complain about how the biker rally took her customers away. The chow main was brown dry noodles. Sweet and and sour pork soggy. I can go on but you get the picture. This was a fifty dollar meal. DONOTEATHERE ! Should be no star.

the restaurant is located in the charming part of Hollister, we were seated right away, we ordered 5 dishes, and 4 of them were good. the funny thing was the easiest dish to make, Broccoli beef was too salty. the prices are moderate, the servers were nice. Decent chinese food in a small farming community, obviously cant compare to restaurants 45 miles away in San Jose in variety and quality, but not bad for those who want to stay local.

The food was ok, great Hong Kong Chow Fun though, best chow fun I’ve had. Service was slow, they weren’t anticipating a heavy traffic on Saturday night. Overall not bad, service was friendly the food is a hit and miss depending on what you get.

Wanted to love it but it was a bust. Customer service was awesome but the food not so much. One of my choices was the spicy garlic beef and I have to say I was thinking, «where’s the beef?» I also ordered the chicken chow mein and that had absolutely no chicken or even vegetables… just al dente noodles. My lunch order also came with white rice. Okay I guess. Only saving grace was the egg flower soup which was tasty and like I mentioned before, the staff was very attentive.

I have enjoyed coming to Cheung Sheng for years. My family has been ordering the crispy sesame chicken and walnut prawns for 20 years and they are always good. Pea pods and black mushrooms are awesome, as are the pan fried noodles. I really do not like any of their wonton in dumplings or soups. The fried ones are good, potstickers are so so.

I was skeptical when I walked in and for the first few minutes, making snap judgments, but the service was excellent and the food was 5-star. The hot and sour soup was the best I ever had, the main dishes were perfect. We ordered an appetizer, soup and two main dishes — it was enough food for four… even though there was just two of us… Excellent leftovers. We’re going back.

I love this place! They have the best lunch special. The food is very authentic and fresh. The only thing that grosses me out is the old man chopping veggies outside while smoking.

The food is good! The service… could be better. Today when I was there for lunch, I ordered my usual menu. They brought me the wrong order. I explained to them what I had ordered and the owner basically accused me of lying of what I originally ordered saying that there is no way the server could have gotten confused. And it wasn’t just what she said was wrong but also the way she said it. She was really trying to make me feel guilty for not excepting the order they cooked for me. And she is the owner of this place. She said«sorry» when she was walking away from me… which doesn’t make me want to believe that she really was. All her attitude was just outrageous! The lunch for me and my coworkers was totally spoiled. She, especially as an owner of this place definitely need to take customer service training– I strongly recommend it to her!

Wow. What can I say? If you like mall/fast food quality Chinese food, this is the place for you, if you don’t mind spending 3x the price of said-type establishments. Thought it could not be worse than the delivery we ordered from The Wok here, but it was cold, despite pick up. No condiments included(which were much needed for the egg rolls), even the fortune cookies were as stale as last week’s undergarments. We ordered the egg rolls, honey walnut shrimp, Mongolian beef, BBQ pork fried rice and the Special pan fried noodles. None were moving. So far, Chinese Cuisine is a no go in Hollister. We had to know, and now we do. I tried to like it, I miss authentic Chinese food… sorry guys, but no dice.
