Our first experience here in this restaurant was good. However, the second time we came back, it took 45 minutes to bring out our simple«lunch special» plates. They brought it out one plate at a time and there were 8 of us so, the rest were halfway done with their food when my last plate came out. The food was fresh though-that’s a plus. If you don’t mind waiting, this place is still on.

Old School Chinese restaurant is pretty good. I really like the Won ton soup. The owner has a great personality funny and sarcastic. My kids love the chow mein and the sweet and sour chicken.

Let’s start with DIRTY, FILTHY, DISGUSTING. If I did not already pay for my food to go I would have walked out. While I waited for 40 minutes to get my to go order 12 tables sat empty filled with dirty dishes and garbage from prior customers, most of which were that way when I walked in. Front counter filled with old dirty paper work and mail. Tables a mess and floor unclean. Owner looked over her domain and did nothing. I guess this is their standard for cleanliness. I wouldn’t bring my dog here to eat. Save your self from getting sick and go eat somewhere else.

I don’t eat meat. Have been going to Wongs for many years and have always been greeted with a friendly welcome. The veggies are always fresh and cooked to the perfect degree of tenderness but not overcooked. Soups are delicious. The food is as hot as can be. Every order is cooked fresh for every customer. I have occasionally asked for a meat type dish to be cooked vegetarian and the chef always does a lovely job, often substituting tofu for the meat. It’s my favorite restaurant.

I met up with my parents here during my 1 hr lunch break and was able to have fast service and enjoy a yummy lunch plate of sweet an sour pork with white rice, delicious Chinese salad, and soup. Our waitress was very friendly and had a good family atmosphere :) will go back again!

After reading people reviews and pulling up to the restaurant I wasn’t too sure about Wong’s but there was one review that change my whole perspective of this restaurant so I decided to be my own judge and I must say their food was Amazing!

They are open on Sundays which is good. Ordered the BBQ pork fried rice, chicken won ton soup, and since they didn’t have any egg rolls(a Chinese restaurant with no egg rolls, what?!) we opted for the pot stickers. Rice didn’t have any flavor but the won ton soup was good as well as the pot stickers. Would rather go to Happi Café but they are close on Sundays.

I lived in Hollister for many years and have tried many of the other Chinese restaurants, but like the friendly, family atmosphere and the food over any other Chinese restaurant. The food is fresh and cooked to order(this may take some time), however you will not be disappointed. They do not use any flavor enhancers(MSG) in their cooking and it is all cooked by one person, Kin and because of this the flavors are consistent time after time. Kin prepares his daily soup every morning and makes any other soup upon request. I advise you to call ahead or just Enjoy your visit with family and friends. It is clean and the interior has been recently updated with new carpet and paint. They also have new tables and chairs. The bathroom has been remodeled as well. Overall it looks fresh and modern. Another treat is meeting May. She is Kin’s wife and a smart-ass. Be prepared to laugh a lot and feel free to give it back to her. She is a crack up and quite the character. I have been to Wong’s many times and have gotten to know May and Kin over the years and they are Wonderful. The food is full of flavor and is made to order. It will be an Experience and one you may like. Give it a try and have some fun with May. Cheers!

Been going for the last 5 – 10 years, this is the best Chinese food in town. Might not look the best, might not be the fastest. But, the food and price is unbeatable. Try it first, before having an opinion. Thanks.

I think the food here is wonderful. Everything is fresh. The fried foods especially the fried shrimp, chicken and egg rolls are to die for! They are delicious! They have great lunch specials. I don’t understand how the rest of the ratings could be do low!

I like this place best. the other places in hollister just aren’t to my liking. I will go again and again. Chinese food places are like sports teams. you either love them or hate them… I am not going to badmouth the other Chinese places in Hollister. I am just going to say I like this one best.

I have to disagree with most of the other reviewers. I think all of the other Chinese restaurants in Hollister are terrible. I’m giving Wong’s three stars because the food at is actually decent. We usually order spicy chicken with vegetables, double mushroom chicken, and chow fun with everything in it, War Won Ton soup, and pot stickers. It’s all good, not too greasy, and the ingredients are fresh. I wouldn’t, however, eat in the restaurant. We only get carry-out. I don’t want to see the family’s children playing games and watching tv in the corner. The dining room leaves a lot to be desired. They also take a long time to prepare the order. If they say 20 minutes, I usually allow 30.

We moved here recently from a rural area that had an incredibly good Thai/Chinese restaurant, mysteriously out of character for Lake County(it was in Clearlake Oaks, if you’re ever up that way), so it’s hard to know if I’m giving an unbiased review, but I’ll try! We have eaten lunch twice at Wong’s Garden, and found the food to be pretty middle-of-the-road. It is a small, mom-and-pop restaurant, with what appear to be family members also as wait staff. Our first trip, we must have gotten Mom as our waitperson, and she was a hoot. Every trip to our table, she cracked us up with a bit of wry humor, which I found delightful given what appeared to be her somewhat limited fluency in English. Both visits, we were in a nearly-empty restaurant: three tables of folks out of maybe fifteen tables, so I really don’t know how full they get or what service is like if they do get busy, but it was perfectly acceptable service on our visits. The food was reasonable, the prices seemed acceptable, the portions were characteristically large. Food prep seemed a little slow, but I got the sense that Dad may have been the only person in the kitchen. No complaints about quality, freshness, etc.; I imagine the absence of salt and option of brown rice instead of white would make this a good choice for the heart-health-concerned diner. We’ll eat there again, I’m sure, based on the nice people and the proximity to our home, but will also be on the prowl for better Chinese food(that’s had a little salt added before being served).

The family that owns and operates this restaurant are very very nice, and the service they provide is great. The food on the other hand, not so great. The food tastes like a cleaner and burnt. We tried it a second time, but that second time was enough to say«nope, never again!» Sorry!

The soup had the consistency of snot. The sweet & sour chicken was over fried and greasey; the pink sauce just slopped over it. And they wouldn’t take a Visa credit card for under a certain amount(which is illegal).

DONOTEATHERE! My daughter(14 months at the time) and I, walked over here one day to eat after a trip to target. We ended up getting strep throat and I was sick to my stomach(the bad way. Like needed 1 bottle of peptobismal a day) for almost 2 days. I was also vomitting every other hour it felt like. I asked for water and got no ice. The tables were sticky and grimy. I used my own wipes to wipe it down.

I was a little worried when my Dad requested we eat here on his birthday, as I’ve read reviews for most restaurants in Hollister and noticed the many 1 star reviews. We had a party of 9 and were seated immediately. The décor is kind of cheesy, it sort of looks like its the family living room. The brick walls are rather uninviting also. I’m not here to review the décor, however so lets get on to the food. We had one of their dinner combinations(served family style, even with a lazy-susan!) plus an order of orange peel chicken(8 $) soda and tea for 9 and it was only like 75 bucks. The food was definitely not the best i’ve ever had, and generally tasted underseasoned(I guess thats what the soy sauce is for?) It was sort of odd that they brought us canned soda, but I can see through that. Our combo came with: fried prawns(I thought they were tastey and I loved the batter) cashew chicken(tastey veg, but the sauce was slimey) sweet and sour pork(decent) beef and broccoli(the beef was mushy and flavorless) The orange peel chicken was the last to come out and definitely the highlight of the meal. It tasted more fresh than the other plates and I loved the sauce. Anything else that mightve come with the combo I cant remember, so they couldn’t have been that good. All in all I felt this place was a little better than other reviews had stated, but definitely not the best in town.

Apparently, one is not allowed to give no stars. Don’t even think about patronizing this«restaurant.» Only time we went, one of us was facing the entrance to the kitchen. A cook dropped a wokful of food onto the floor, scooped it up and PLATEDIT! Needless to say, we haven’t been back. Try the infinitely better China Garden, right across the street between Nob Hill and Target.
