Unfortunately went by there today and it was CLOSED witha big sign that read NOWLEASING. What a bummer I loved their lunch special.

I was driving past one day and decided to stop in for lunch as I love deep dish pizza and can’t find it anywhere. The pizza was very good and service was great. A few weeks later I was craving Kennedy’s pizza again, so I literally drove 25 minutes from my house to eat dinner there. I ordered the same exact thing. The problem was that the pizza tasted like I was eating cheese off of a very thin cracker. I think the pizza dough did not rise enough and it came out all thin and very hard(not at all the way it came out the first time I ate there). As a matter of fact it was so bad I sent it back and didn’t even want to stay around for them to make another. I drove 25 minutes back home hungry and very disappointed. Will I try them again, maybe? Would I recommend them to a friend, not yet.

This place has a GREAT family atmosphere with even better food. The food is authentic and fresh! It comes out hot and the service is very courteous! You simply WILLNOT find a better pizza or beef sandwich in town! Can’t wait to go back!!!

Wow. We don’t know if this is authentic Chicago deep dish but we loved it none the less. The pizza tasted amazing. We also ordered their hot chicken wings which we were pleasantly surprised that they were a dry rub hot with brown sugar and it was simply mouth watering. Plus ordered an inexpensive great tasting bottle of chardonnay wine. ERIC was/is an amazing server. We highly recommend this place.

I am not one to usually give a place a bad review but being from Chicago i take offense to them putting«chicago» on the front sign. Its not bad pizza for Texas but its not even a little bit close to being chicago style pizza. It’s probably been a while since the owner has been to Chicago because he forgot what a real italian beef sandwich is supposed to taste and look like. They serve it on sweet sandwich bread instead of the traditional French bread and the meat, subpar. I highly recommend he visit Johnnies beef, Max’s beef, Portillos or any of the many places in chicago so he can have a true sense of what he should be serving. If not, then change the verbiage on the menu and call it a San Antonio style beef sandwhich. Service was excellent though. Can you tell I miss Chicago food?

The pizza was good and tasted like it was made with fresh ingredients. However, it isn’t Chicago style. Just tasty deep dish. I would definitely get it again with my expectations reset as to the authenticity.

Two stars because the service was outstanding. The food on the other hand, was not my thing. We ordered garlic mushrooms and supreme deep dish and sent both back. It didn’t remind me of the pizza we eat when we go home to Chicago and the mushrooms we mostly batter with very little mushrooms. The staff and owner was very pleasant but I just don’t like the food. Maybe the thin crust is better

Clearly if you want the real deal you need to drive another 1000 miles. However this is pretty close to Chicago style pizza and it’s really good. If you’re idea of good pizza is chain style pizza you may be reaching for the salt shaker trying to put all that sodium flavor on it. Customer service was great. Recommend to pizza foodies.

Service was great and the pizza was delicious… the bread was very tasty, toasted just right and it was light on the stomach, it didnt leave a full, sleepy, ugly feeling but rather I ate half a small one and left me feeling not horribly guilty of eating half a pizza! Really recommend this place!

Although we had an attentive server, the deep dish pizza was horrible!!! It didn’t look like a deep dish pizza, the sauce was sour, the meat was bland and the dough tasted like more than a couple days old bread!!! Never going back there again!

I have lived in Chicago when I was in the Navy and a big fan of Chicago style pizza. My brother wanted to go here for his birthday. We had a large party so we sat in the party room. The young lady that was our service was on top of her game. She checked on on constantly and make sure our drinks were full. I had opted for a small deep dish for my boys and I got a calzone. The young lady asked me if I wanted a side with it. A side? Like what? She suggested fries. I have never heard of fries with a calzone. I went went with it. My wife got spaghetti and meat balls. They did charge extra for the meat balls. The meat balls were home made. The sauce was a little bland. You would have thought the portions would have been bigger. They brought out bread to the table which had a sweet flavor to it. You would have thought it would have been more like garlic bread and have a chewier crust, rather than looking like it was not looked long enough. My calzone was a little on the«doughy» side. It was ok. I thought they could have filled it a little more with the veggies, rather than over doing it with sauce. I had read all these great reviews about how the owner was from Chicago and he was well known for his pizza. I would say the deep dish pizza was ok. It was not fabulous like some of the reviews had stated. Over all, the service was awesome. The food was descent. It gets in the ball park of Chicago pizza. I had asked the server if she had read the reviews of this place. She made a comment that they only people that wrote reviews were people who had a bad experience. I can say I did not have a bad experience. The service was top notch. I will have to agree with another review that the food does fall short of earning more than 3 stars.

This place had EXCELLENT service! I had a outstanding experience here & the pizza was fantastic! The salad was wonderful & the Italian dressing was great too. Also the beer was super cold & you can tell they really take care of the taps here which is a big plus because I can always tell when it is not maintained right. Everyone working here was genuinely interested in making sure everything was ok & were enjoying our food. Our server Eric was great! Everyone was nice actually, I plan on making my rounds here more often for sure!

Real nice service, good fried mushrooms w marinara sauce :) the owner even came to say hello and make sure all was well. The fried mushrooms are enough for two to share.

Went here before a dodgeball game and the place was completely empty. I had seen the two star average prior and though oh know, this isn’t going to turn out well… but it actually ended up «ok». We sat down and ordered some of their wings after being recommended by our server. These wings were pretty good. They were a sweet heat, you could smell cinnamon but the taste was so subtle. We ordered the deep dish Meathead(Pork Sausage, Hamburger, Bacon, Ham, Canadian Bacon & Pepperoni) that serves 3 – 4 people. The pizza does take about 20 minutes to cook, so be patient. The pizza arrives and it doesn’t look like a chicago deep dish I am accustomed to, but it was good. My friend didn’t care for it, but she prefers thin crust. For 4 of us our meal average out to about 10 $ with tip. This wouldn’t be my first choice to eat, but it’s also not as bad as some of the reviews would lead you to believe.

I’m gonna have to give it two stars! I’m from the south side Chicago 87th and stony island! No joke I just move here and was all excited to see if this pizza could be the real deal… Naw! I give the cheese bread 5 stars, but the pizza naw! It’s technically a deep dish pizza but not the Chicago pizza I grew up on. Had a nice environment though and the staff was very customer friendly. 5 star to the staff. Like I said tho the pizza gets 2

Having gone to college in Chicago(in the city, not a suburb), I am more than familiar with what good Chicago style pizza is. To name a few restaurants in Chicago that I use for comparison purposes: Lou Malnati’s, Uno Chicago Grill(aka Pizzeria Uno), Giordano’s, Carmen’s(now closed), J.B. Alberto’s(my personal favorite), etc. Kennedy’s does a good job of providing a near-authentic Chicago style pizza, but they fall short of earning five(5) stars. Overall Kennedy’s products are good — the ingredients are quality and tasty — and the sauce is definitely top-notch, one of the better sauces I’ve had, actually, my issues are primarily with the crust and the toppings. The crust is just the right thickness so as not be both supportive and not too hard, but it lacks flavor — the recipe needs just a bit of work but is still pretty decent. My issue with the toppings is really related to the amount of toppings on each pizza. Granted, I’ve only eaten Kennedy’s three times, but all three times, I’ve felt the cooks were stingy with the toppings, which is definitely NOT a quality of the restaurants in Chicago. The toppings should really be piled on to be more authentic. Overall my issues are minor, but they are important enough issues to only earn a three(3) star rating, for now. I will still eat at Kennedy’s — and should my experience change, I’ll gladly update my review. I’ll also still recommend Kennedy’s to people who want a pretty good Chicago style pizza — but there is a place in San Antonio that is more authentic(see my other reviews). Either way, Kennedy’s is not a bad choice.

Just got back from Chicago and will be going back to Chicago on Wednesday. I have not tried a «Chicago» style pizza in SA, but I have had Uno, Lou Malnatti’s, Gino’s East, and other pizzas in Chicago. To test the authenticity, I ordered a Chicago dog as an appetizer. It was almost identical to the one I had at Wrigley just last week! Even the neon colored relish seemed to be the same. So far, so good. Our group ordered two different pizzas: Meat Head and Monster of the Midway(supreme). It takes a while for pizzas like this to be cooked. If you want it faster, call ahead. Once the pizza arrived our group of 13 went to it. Five of us had just had pizza at Gino’s East and a pizza place in South Chicago Heights(Chicago Dough) so we wanted to see what a San Antonio place could do when up against the real thing. We were all pleasantly surprised. This pizza is amazing! If you want to reminisce of Midway, Wrigley, or Magnificent Mile, then this is the place for you!

I’m no expert on Chicago pizza, so I’m unable to critique Kennedy’s food based on its authenticity. So I’ll just write about what I experienced. The restaurant is big with plenty of seating. The menu features a good selection of pizzas and other Italian dishes, and the prices are pretty good. The server was friendly and did a good job overall. My wife and I ordered the Supreme deep-dish pizza for 1 – 2 people, and it was more than enough for us. The pizza tasted pretty good, but the crust was a bit undercooked; the sides were more egg-yellow than golden brown. The toppings were skimpy, especially the pepperoni and Italian sausage. We also felt the pizza had too much tomato sauce and not enough cheese. Maybe that’s how Chicago pizza is – I don’t know – but it didn’t appeal to us. I will say that the sauce was very flavorful with nice chunks of tomato, but there was just too much of it. On the whole, we liked the taste of the pizza. But the undercooked crust and the lopsided ratio of sauce to cheese and toppings made it less than an optimum experience for us. Your mileage may vary.
