The best restaurant on Hollywood Beach! The service(Alex) was excellent, the wine list is broad and reasonably priced, and the food was wonderful. We enjoyed the avocado/shrimp appetizer, a corvina special — so fresh and delightfully prepared– and a key lime pie. We had a question about one of the wines and the waiter contacted the owner to get his advice — certainly not something we expected! All of this with a view of the ocean and the people walking by. We’ll be back!

Do not go here! Unfortunately I have to say that we were thrown for a major loop here at this establishment. Upon entering, there was only one other table in the restaurant that was occupied. The service was very slow and pretty impatient especially considering we were one of two tables that required attention. The food for our party of 9 took well over an hour. This is with no appetizers ordered. When the food finally did come out, to the kitchen team’s credit, everything was very good. Although in that amount of time they could have been following a step by step instruction manual or you tube video to make it happen! The real issue came when we left. The two cars we took to go eat here were both towed. We parked directly in front of the back door under a sign with the restaurant’s name on it. There is no other parking for this establishment. No where did it say anything about who would be towed just generic signs you see everywhere that unauthorized vehicles would be towed. When we confronted the restaurant about this, they said it happens all the time, and basically shrugged us off. Obviously, they knew it was happening and didn’t bother to ask the two tables in their establishment if the card parked under their sign were ours! Over the next two hours we had to track our cars down and determined the restaurant, attached hotel, and tow company were all in on it. Do not go here! You will be sorry!

The location is a bit surprising because most of the Broadwalk restaurants are not of this caliber and quality. We enjoyed the complimentary thin toasts of bread garnished with olive oil and spices. We joked if the food is as good as the bread we were in for a treat. We ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp with Brussels Sprouts to share as an appetizer. Bad idea. 3 shrimp and I had to hunt for the Brussels sprout under the shrimp. Yes it was tasty but as I had read in another review the portions are small. Many places my hubby and I can split entrees or appetizers but this place has very small portions. He had a steak and it was prepared well and was tender and tasty. I ordered salmon and it was fine but nothing special. Again I had to look under the salmon for the small slices of potatoes. The grilled vegetable slices were good. For dessert I ordered key lime pie. Let me say, that is always my favorite dessert. Here they bring you a small glass with key lime pudding in it. Sprinkled on top are graham cracker crumbs, whipped cream and a slice of lime. Looks very pretty but definitely NOT key lime pie. When I asked about it they said it was deconstructed key lime pie. On a scale of 1 – 5 I give it a 1.5. I want to praise the wait staff. We had impeccable service from beginning to end. Our friends were pleased overall with their meals.

Great b-fast with the family. Nice and laid back. Food was good and servers nice. It was GREAT not to see the blond guy. They have a young new guy that was very personable, smiling, attentive. Not sure if he’s a server or not but he refilled our coffees and waters and was there when we needed anything. We love the location and that’s why we keep coming back.

Phe. Nom. In. Al. The single best dining experience I have had in a decade, despite the noncommittal service. The food was stellar. We came early, around six, and ordered a Thai Beef Salad, Jamaican jerk swordfish, and a Mahi with pineapple salsa. The salad was the best salad I have ever had at a restaurant. The. Best. Forget the carpaccio beef, the salad greens and dressing alone were perfection. Just knocked flat. Then, this entrée, this amazing swordfish, what can I say, I almost ordered it again for dessert. It was the best fish I’ve ever eaten, bar none. To top this, a Crème Brule and really, an unpronouncable German dessert that was incredible. Oh, and they have Duvel and Ayinger. Right?! The only thing that struck me wrong was the casual, insouciant waiter. Polite, but something off. No deduction of stars but I can see this as a problem for some. I came here to eat well, and I did, marvelously.

Overall, this place was really good. My wife and I had the caprese to start followed by the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer and the scallops with Brussels sprouts appetizer. Everything was really good. The seafood was really fresh and the sauces were great, but not overpowering. In addition, the bread with olive oil was amazing. We really enjoyed dinner. Food was great, service was amazing and the view was fantastic. The only down side was that the portions for the price was a little off. We paid $ 108 for 3 appetizers and a bottle of wine… A little steep… That being said, we would definitely go back. Overall, a great dining experience.

We came here as a group of ten and were warmly welcomed by the staff. We ordered a range of appetizers and kept the wine coming to start. Bacon-wrapped shrimp were passable(a touch overdone), scallops were lovely, portabella mushrooms delicious. I ordered the gumbo, which I was told would be quite spicy and was not, particularly, but was quite good. The presentation is fun — in a large fish-shaped ceramic bowl — and the serving was hearty. They didn’t over-rice the dish, but I found myself looking for more okra(I apparently am the only person who likes okra, but whatever). Would order again and ask for more heat! It’s becoming a bit of a tradition for my lab to have dinner here when in town for a conference, so I’ll see you next year, Sugar Reef!

Mmmmmm, delicious! We had a wonderful experience here. We were looking for oceanfront dining, and were not disappointed! Right on the boardwalk, and you could hear and see the ocean. Being a Wednesday night, things were quiet, but was actually just fine with me. Some people strolling by on the boardwalk, but not crowds. We started with the green curry mussels — amazing. Went well with my favorite riesling, Dr. Loosen’s, which I was really happy to see on the menu. Then a great corvina, while my husband had a really tasty vegan salad. Nice, but not formal — we brought our two year old toddler daughter and were completely comfortable having her with us.

The service was good, but the bread had a lot of olive oil. I order the organic chicken and it was drenched in oregano, the salad was good. Dessert was crème bulle the crème was watery it seem like it wasn’t refrigerated. The view is beautiful and the restraunt is very cozy and quite.

My husband and I are here for his conference, my vacation. We asked our hotel for a recommendation and they immediately suggested Sugar Reef. We are fans of eating outside but the winds were 30 mph so we ate indoors. The owner opened the doors for us as we blew in the door. We had the shrimp wrapped with bacon and the roasted fennel salad. Both were great but the shrimp was to die for. Since my husband doesn’t like garlic, we asked the owner for help and he suggested the Mahi Mahi and it was fantastic. I had the pork and still can’t get over how great it was. The mashed potatoes were fantastic as was the sauce it was served with. No room for dessert so we had cappuccino and it too was wonderful. I had to hug the owner when we left. Visit this place, you won’t be sorry!

First time here and I really liked it. The location is very nice– right on Hollywood beach strip. The server was alright. He wasn’t very informative when it came to the beers and food on the menu. On the other hand, I really liked that the owner was there and interacted with us! Okay so in regards to our meal, the appetizer we ordered was the bacon wrapped shrimp… i was actually left unsatisfied not because of the taste, it was delicious but only 2 shrimp were on the plate. there was 4 of us at the table. My entrée was the chicken Alfredo pasta– can’t wrong with that, it was amazingggg. My boyfriend and his parents ordered the seafood pasta– I forgot the name but omg so good! I’m ordering it next time I visit. Lastly, our desert. We ordered the banana bread and bread pudding… mouth-watering. So overall, I had a great experience and will be returning. I gave it 4 stars only because the appetizer was a rip-off and our server seemed uninterested in being there but that’s about it.

Great service, good beer and wine selection(no liquor). Met and spent some time talking to the owner who was visibly very concerned with both customer experience and service. With so many tourist traps in the area it’s great to get find a good meal that is also a good value.

Awesome spot on the Hollywood Boardwalk… We came with a group of 10 and on a Saturday night. They had no problem accommodating our party and the service was great! Food. Was. Awesome. Must tries: the complementary bread, bacon-wrapped shrimp, scallop appetizer, gumbo, bread pudding! Yum!

I love Sugar Reef’s concept of French infused with Caribbean cuisine. Anything French is pricey, in my opinion, and Sugar Reef is no exception. The service is, well lets put it as our waiter made an attempt to be friendly but was missing the mark. In the past I have made mistakes by not inquiring about the price of beverages which are not on the menu, so I asked how much a glass of a red blend wine was. I was giving a look like I should be ashamed for asking. Onto the food. I ordered the French onion soup(when in France…), the escargot and the avocado and shrimp salad. The escargot and salad were good, the soup was okay. My friends with me, one ordered the Vegan salad(listed as an entrée) and got an appetizer sized salad drenched with balsamic dressing. She couldn’t eat it. My other friend ordered the Tropical Fish Stew and it was a little bigger than my French Onion Soup. Do not expect the price to reflect the portion size LOL. FYI: 18% tip is automatically included on all checks. Sugar Reef does have a great view of the beach and the ocean

Sugar Reef Grill is one of the few«finer» dining establishments on Hollywood Beach. The setting as you walk up the from the Broadwalk is really a fit for Hollywood Beach and the motif as you enter is a casual nice, cozy beach restaurant. Very inviting as you look over a perfect size dining room with the small bar in the back with very intimate lighting. You have to have reservations, especially on a Friday or Saturday because the restaurant does not seat a large cliental. We arrived at 7:30, in time for our reservation and we were seated immediately. Their wine list has some good wines on it, not spectacular, but enough of a variety to please any type of wine drinker. We happened to notice that they had one OUR favorite restaurant wines, Starmont Cabernet, a later vintage, 2013. We asked the waitress to please get us a decanter after she let us taste the wine. It had been about 20 minutes, no bread, which they usually serve with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and no sign of a wine decanter. We had to track down another waiter for the bread. Finally the waitress came back to ask us for our appetizer order, no mention of the decanter. We asked again and she told us the only one they had was already being used. Nice to know!!! We ordered our appetizers, an Avocado Shrimp salad, a wedge salad, Kale salad and our fourth guest had the escargot which he said was fabulous. My avocado shrimp salad was a little sloppy and nothing special. For the entrée, my wife ordered the Mahi Mahi with a Mango sauce, which she loved. I had the Whole Yellowtail Snapper which I though was really delicious but really lacked size, as you can see in the picture. Our other guests ordered the Free Range Chicken and Seafood Gumbo. When they finally served us our bread right before the salads, it was really dry, thin garlic bread, and I was not sure why the Extra Virgin olive oil and Balsamic was served with it. Sugar Reef Grill has been on Hollywood Beach for many years and I remember going yeas ago and was not really impressed. Our friends wanted to go there last night so we figured we would give it a second try. The food was average. I felt like the service was slow and no one seemed really interested in doing anything extra for us, let alone spend much time during the service at our table. Our waitress lacked any kind of personality. Maybe Sugar Reef figures they are also an eating establishment landmark on Hollywood Beach and take for granted their cliental who have been coming there for years. I really am being generous giving this 3 stars, but the atmosphere is cool being on the beach, but would never bring it upon myself to go back nor bring anyone there. Of course the company you are with makes an evening great which was the case, so 3 stars for atmosphere and good friends.

This review is based on my experience here with my wife on our 7th year anniversary. I read the other reviews and well, I could imagine how Carol could have had the experience she had. For us, everything went like clockwork(of a well made clock that is). We’re looking for places that has a bit of everything, but not too many choices. The Sugar Reef Grill shows up on our search. We make a reservation and we hop a cab to as close as we could get. The restaurant is on the boardwalk so there is no driving to the front door. When we walked up, at first we both sorta thought«is this the right place?» It was all open to the outside and was a bit small. But, as soon as we walked up, we were pleasantly surprised. We told the waiter we had a reservation. He sat us by an opening close to the ocean. It was so peaceful to dine looking out to the beach. The owner, came and asked what we would like to drink. She ordered wine, I ordered beer — told him I liked dark beer. He brought my wife something off the menu that he said was better than what she ordered. He brought me a beer to try that I loved. She ordered a salad. He asked if he could make something off menu for her. She would like it better. She agreed and loved the grilled romaine salad. I had bacon wrapped shrimp! YUM! The dinner and desert when the same way, we described what we liked, he helped us find the perfect dish. We loved everything he brought us. In the end, we felt like a guest being taken care of. They do add 18% gratuity to all checks. I knew this going in, but forgot when filling out the tip. He let me know and saved me from tipping about 40%! I would go again. Loved it.
