The Dog Beach of Hollywood

Our pups love this place! A little crowded but great overall. The only thing is they really should allow you to pay w a CC or paypal! This is 2015, who even has checks anymore? lol

My pup ADORES Hollywood’s dog beach!!! The park ranger was friendly when I went, and I was stoked to find that my pup loves the beach as much as I do! The area isn’t that large and gets a tad crowded, but I still recommend it!!!

If you want a review from my dogs eyes this place rocks lots of dogs, water, sand and fun. As for me too crowded not enough room for all them dogs the space is limited and the parking sucks. But I will be back cause my dog is the boss.

In this day and age, who has a check book handy at the beach?! Apparently that’s the only way you can get into this dog beach unless you can magically make a money order on the spot! Come on now if you are going to charge at least accept cash or debit cards. It’s $ 10 for non-​resident dog owners to be confined in a small area… Yeah. No thanks! Never coming back. Sticking to Key Biscayne dog beach!

Bring a check for payment. They don’t take cash or credit cards. My puppy loves to swim, fetch in water, and loves dogs but she made a human upset because she fetch the wrong toy in water. Seriously, if the human is possessive over their dog’s expensive water toy, don’t bring it or put it away. It didn’t even bother the dogs they were are fetching and playing with the each others’ toys. SMH.

I’m used to living places where dogs were allowed everywhere so, having just a limited stretch of beach where they’re allowed and having to pay (quite a bit) for the privilege seems unreasonable to me.
That being said, given the dearth of dog beaches in South Florida, I’m glad that the City of Hollywood has allowed this to happen. It would be nice if more of the jurisdictions would follow suit.

Nice location and parking is easy (you do have to pay). There are always usually a lot of dogs there when we go… I’m assuming because dog beaches are limited in the Miami area. We went once and didn’t have to pay, but the second time we went they told us we had to pay to enter or buy a pass. I’m confused as to why you have to pay doe times and not the others. I personally don’t think we should be paying for this. It’s something the city should take care of since they are making it available to us. I get that it’s to keep the beach clean, and we do exactly that by picking up after ourselves. Other than the cost to enter its a great area.

Made the mistake on coming here on one of the off days. Got scolded like a child by old crabby beach goers… Too much time on ya hands! They are only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The patch of beach that allows dogs is about a block or less. I cannot physically see how this would be good for any dog to be packed one right on top of the other. Won’t be returning.

I love bringing my pup out here! She runs, plays, and digs! There are usually a good number of dogs out, but most owners are good about watching their dogs. There is a cop on duty every time, but he brings his little daschund with him, too! The first few times here, I brought a towel or blanket, but it always ends up covered in sand over & over with all the dogs running by & over it. Now, I take a chair, lol, much better!

The human part of this review wants to give 3.5 stars, but I think that Cody would give it 5 stars. The dog beach is located between Pershing and Custer so it is about a block worth of beach dedicated to our 4 legged friends. That actually isn’t a lot of beach to work with and it was pretty busy when we came on a Saturday. Dogs are only allowed Fri-​Sun at specific hours. The hours change by season: November — March: 3:00 pm — 7:00 pm, April — October: 4:00 pm — 8:00 pm
There is a fee (lower for Hollywood residents), but we did not know who to pay? I probably owe someone.
Parking is metered at $ 2.00/hour. Because the hours are later in the day it wasn’t impossible to find parking, but on a busier day parking could get a little frustrating.
I get a little grossed out if I think too hard about how many dogs have peed or poo-​ed in the exact spot I was sitting. So my main issue is questionable cleanliness.
BUT Cody loved it. Dogs can be off leash and Cody sure took advantage. He ran around in circles. After this dog. After that dog. With a runner. Toward the ocean. AWAY from the waves. (Why must my dog be so afraid to get in the water!) Thank goodness for all that extra energy he expended while here. He never runs that much at a regular dog park.
Once Cody tired himself out, he laid next to us and watched the sunset off in the West. He can be quite the romantic one. And ladies, Cody is single ;]
And you don’t have to take a super sandy pup home. There is a hose at the exit for a good rinse.
Cody and I will definitely be back!

Anywhere I can take my furbaby to where he can run and play with other dogs is a happy place.
I love the beach-​so I wanted Sam to love the beach. He was apprehensive at first in the sand, but learned to love it in about 30 seconds once he made friends. The beach is large and there are pups everywhere. They can swim and play all over and there is a shower for you to get the sand off them (like for your feet) at the exit. This is especially helpful if the pups go swimming! Bring a towel :)
We didn’t pay to go, but there is metered parking. The place was actually a nice little hideout-​kind of hard to find at first. I believe the sign said that the «park» (beach) was only open fri/​sat/​sun, but since we went on friday afternoon, I’m not 100% sure.
There were several regulars there who reassured me since it was mine and Sam’s first time there. I eased up once he made friends and I talked with the other people. In retrospect I would have brought my beach chair and a tennis ball. But he had a blast just being with other dogs and getting messy.
We will totally be back-​but since the dog park at Plantation is closer and doesn’t involve a bath after, that’s likely going to be our saturday outing from now on: D

Great fun for the pooches to run on the beach. There were lots of pups there the day we went. Metered parking is ample during the dog beach hours and there is a hose to rinse off at the exit. Check out the website for more details, but note that we have never had to pay to go.

I live on the beach here and run on the beach here so I see the canine fun all the time. Looks like the owners and Dawgs are having an awful lot of fun! Plus they never chase me in an angry way so it’s all good!

Yes I agree its a beautiful dog beach, however its not what it seems… Parking is difficult but so is every beach parking and you cant take your dogs until its 4pm and if youre there any earlier a man will come up very rudely and tell you to leave until that time. And we got there at 3:40p not to mention there is a $ 5 charge and than you have a small space where at one point there are too many dogs and it becomes stressful. The dog beach on Key Biscayne is the «BEST»!!!

I took my pup, Sula, for the first time to this beach today and it was so much fun. She absolutely loved it and so did I. She had a lot of fun playing with the other dogs. I was afraid to take her off the leash but she did really nicely! There are four cones indicating the perimeters of the «dog beach» and she really didn’t get out of those. Probably because she wanted to be with all the dogs. I loved it. My only critique is that it is only open from 4 – 8 PM [Summer Hours]. I mean, by the time you get there, the sun is gone and you really can’t enjoy the beach. But I guess it works for the dogs.

The beach is great and the gentleman who sign you in are incredibly nice! It’s $ 5 for Hollywood residents and more for other, but the attendees let my Fort Lauderdale friends and their bow-​wows slip by on the local fee.
The one thing that sucks are the hours! The beach usually doesn’t open til 5pm-​7pm depending on the time of year and its only open on the weekend. So by the time you come, the sun is gone! :(
I take my dog out canoeing to beer can island at Oleta State park, and then drop in to watch the sunset at the dog beach. :)

We brought our Rocco here for the first time yesterday. As we walked over the walkway that connects the parking area to the beach, I was already spotting a few labs swimming around after a tennis ball in the water! Rocco loved it. He instantly made friends — all the owners were great and on top of their pooches. Can’t wait to go back!

The emotions I felt when I took my little angel to the dog beach in Hollywood for the first time were overwhelming. Boundi and the other dogs ran, swam, played fetch, chased each other, and generally had the time of their lives, all free from leash restraint.
The friendly dogs and people who shared the experience with us on this fall day smiled and laughed as we talked about our pets and threw tennis balls deep into the Atlantic. Everyone cleaned up after their pet (s) and our dog even cleaned up after some ungrateful beach goer, who had littered a plastic bag in the ocean. Ever the loyal retriever, Boundi brought the bag to our feet and we properly disposed of it.
I like very much that they have a public official or park officer of some kind there on the sand to ensure everyone’s safety, though it wasn’t needed during my visit.
For Miami Dade dog lovers who have visited the «dog beach» on Key Biscayne: DON’T! Don’t ever go there again. I know we won’t. Even though it’s a bit of a drive to the Hollywood beach, the experience is more than worth it and the beach doesn’t even compare to the dirty area on the causeway where they allow dogs in Miami.
Bottom Line: This gorgeous beach is amazing just for human recreation, and allowing furry friends to share in the fun takes it to another fantastic level!

The Dog Beach of Hollywood Florida is located between Pershing and Custer St. (½ mile north of Sheridan St.) The hours are 4−8pm April-​October and November –March 3−7pm. This is like having a big party at the beach with the dogs. They have a blast running in the water, chasing toys and meeting new friends. It’s only $ 5. for Hollywood residents and $ 10 for non-​residents. I highly reccomend it for anyone with a friendly dog who wants to get out and enjoy the beach!
