What a delicious vegan meal. We got the lentil burger and B4 breakfast combo with tofu scramble and sausage, with a great, creamy coconut ice cream and soy chocolate cake for dessert. A real find for this hole in the wall.

According to Unilocal, this restaurant is now closed, but I ate there earlier today and can assure you that it’s very much open. However, it saddens me to say that the restaurant isn’t very good. First off, the health inspection people gave it a «B» grade, which they have to display in their window. Usually, that’s enough for me to not want to eat there, but I decided to try this place anyway. The inside of the restaurant isn’t much to look at. There’s very little decoration, and the furniture isn’t very fancy. At best, the décor of the restaurant would indicate that this is a place to grab a quick bite for lunch, but definitely not a place you’d come if you want a quality dining experience. Everything on the menu is vegan, which suits me very well because I happen to be vegetarian. I love going into a restaurant and seeing an entire menu of food that I can order, as opposed to having to hunt for the one or two things that are suitable for me. I ordered the Pad Thai and my friend ordered some sort of wrap that had tofu beef. After just one bite of our food, we both simultaneously looked at each other and said«This isn’t very good.» The noodles were extremely bland, and even a generous amount of chili sauce didn’t help to liven them up. I came into the restaurant fairly hungry, but I didn’t even eat a third of my food because it was better to be a little hungry than to continue to heap tasteless stuff into my mouth. The waitress was a nice young girl who provided good service. This is why I gave the restaurant two stars instead of one. I get the feeling that the people who run this restaurant are well-intentioned. But the best of intentions just doesn’t make up for sub-par food. If the food isn’t good, every other part of the dining experience is irrelevant. My total bill came out to $ 16, which I feel is still more than what the food was worth here. Sadly, I can’t recommend this restaurant. I certainly won’t be coming back.

I have wanted to go to this vegan restaurant for several years. Tonight I went out of my way to find it and go inside to check them out. I like the little place. There weren’t any customers and my first thought was that they must suck or nobody could find parking. I figured they would be as good as any other Vegan restaurant that I go to, but I was wrong. I got the green curry with Brown rice. The brown rice seemed«cheap» and was not like any brown rice I get at any other vegan restaurant. And they actually used FROZENVEGGIES in the Green Curry!!! WTH??? I am vegan for a reason and just assumed that fresh ingredients would be used in a little vegan restaurant. The little squared carrots from the frozen vegetable bag had that freezer burn flavor and were soggy like all of those carrots are. the peas tasted fake and then of course there were the green beans. They also tasted fake and as if they had freezer burn. Awful! They were the same cheap frozen veggies that those dirty diners use in their frozen pot pies. If you are going to have a vegan restaurant, a restaurant with a menu based on a plant based diet why not use the freshest ingredients? That blew my mind and really disappointed me. My daughter got the Fresh spring rolls and those were good. I think the salad she got was okay, too. But they are lacking in the leafy greens dept. All they have is romaine. They didn’t have any spinach or kale, just romaine lettuce. I am giving them 3 stars because the waitress was so sweet and because I reeeeeeeally wanted to like this place. :/But if it were not for that they would get one star, and that is only because this as low as the system goes. I felt malnourished after what should have been a very nourishing meal. Sorry Truly: A Vegan Restaurant. I really wanted to LOVE you! :/

I give this place two starts only because the food is slightly decent. However, the service is terrible. Not only they often don’t understand the orders correctly… but when you order for a delivery they make you wait forever! And just today they«misplaced» my order so after a one hour wait I find out they did not even start cooking the food. SOTERRIBLE. Avoid, you have tons of better options in the area for vegan food and fair service.

I’ve been to Truly a couple times now and each time it’s been a very enjoyable experience. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is small, and the menu is huge. That being said, I got the same entrée both times. The Soy Chicken Glee has one of my favorite kinds of fake meat. I’ve only been to a few restaurants that use it, but Truly fries it in their dish and it’s delicious. Very well-balanced with the steamed broccoli and cauliflower that comes on the side. Last time I was there, I also had the Bön Appetite Salad… wow, it was huge! Very much a two person salad, or a full on meal if you want to eat light. Definitely check this place out if you’re in Hollywood.

My boyfriend and I ate at Truly based on the fact that I wanted Pad Thai and he wanted to try something other than the Vegan House. It’s a tiny little spot. It seemed like a spot you only call for delivery or pickup. We didn’t have anywhere to go so we were forced to dine in the little hot and humid restaurant. Prices were average. My boyfriend ordered a breakfast burrito plate. He said it was good. Not filling at all. I tried it and it was okay. Nothing special or complicated to make. The Pad Thai I ordered was so bland, dry, tasteless and clumped together. It seemed like reheated day old PT. It was so disappointing. The soy chicken tasted like fish but wasn’t bad; pretty good actually. My guy had to help me eat it because he was still hungry and I wouldn’t finish it. There was no denying it was the worst we’ve tasted. My guy makes way better PT than what they threw together. I was so upset paying for the meal. Maybe it was a slow weekend, wrong day, wrong choice of plate, whatever it was… I don’t plan on finding out. As my boyfriend and I left, we couldn’t stop saying how we actually felt worse from eating there. For Vegan food, I expect clean hearty feel good food. Not leftovers! Tip: Their smoothie was delicious.

So I’ve never actually been inside this restaurant, but every time I order take-out, it arrives promptly, and with a smile. Also, when I order take-out online, I often request that they draw adorable cartoons on my take-out containers, and they ALWAYS indulge me. My edamame also came with a note on it saying«Happy with your edamame :)». How could I NOT be? I highly recommend their vegan BLT and their Deliciously Seitan. The pancakes are also delicious. Very reasonably priced, especially for an underemployed occasional vegan like myself.

Want to give this more stars, but I’m an omnivore. Carnivorous by choice. Enjoy me some red meat, poultry, oink, and seafood. Vegan meals just leave me craving something more. Regardless of the niche crowd a type of food is attracting, no matter what it is, good is good. This was okay, but doesn’t leave me with that gotta-have-it-again feeling. When I eat, I want that feeling. Had to try the green curry. A dish that was like Pad-see-ew but with vegan satay, brown rice, and the lentil loaf. Lentil loaf is interesting. It’s like the consistency of that canned corned beef hash, which I like, but this made me want some eggs, bacon, and toast. Meal comes with potatoes and broccoli. Nice that they didn’t overcook the vegetable. I wouldn’t order this as a meal on its own. It reminds me of a breakfast side. The green curry. Spicy. Tasty, but it doesn’t even come close to my favorite at Sri Siam Café. There they put all of these amazing mushrooms in it and the complexity of flavors are amazing. The pad-see-ew type dish was really good. I’d order that again. Also pretty spicy, but love that. Vegan satay reminds me of Asian fish cake. I like it. They deliver within a 2 mile radius and I’d consider ordering it again out of convenience.

My Jamaican friends hipped me to this spot. I liked that they called the lady mama and she knew what they wanted beforehand. Quite the personalized experience. Ordered delivery on my own recently. The lady answered and I resisted the urge to call her mama and just ordered my food. Yellow curry: Piping hot and delicious. I like my curry sweeter so I added a spoonful of honey but it was hot, had plenty of potatoes and veggies… All good. Chips and Guacamole: So Fucking fresh and good. Big fresh chunks of avocado wedged between very few other ingredients. Simple and delish. Standard chips, I used a spoon. Steamed gyoza: Ehhh whatever. Thai tea: Very big! and yummy, even though I usually like mine very creamy(like half/half creamy) This was so good. Hit the spot. I love animals and all their products. Oooops. I mean I love eating animals and all their products, but this is a great place to get a break from that and still feel family reunion bbq full and satisfied. Thanks Mama.

I always forget that this is there, and then I’m thankful that I remember. It’s pretty much the same vegan fare that every vegan restaurant serves. Not too greasy, not too soggy, and locally owned and run. If I don’t see Thai people working in my Thai restaurant I won’t eat there. This is a safe and consistent option. Parking sucks here, especially during rush hour when there’s no street parking. If you live nearby just order delivery. A few extra bucks is worth getting to sit on your couch and have your food delivered to YOU.

As we were looking for a cheap vegetarian or vegan dinner, this place really caught my attention after having checked their menu online. When we entered the restaurant our first impression was one of curiosity, at least from my end. However my partner wasn’t so sure and was careful — he is a meat addict. Being used to having vegetarian meals and major ingredients such as tofu and soy, I really had high hopes. So I ordered the yellow curry which came with tofu, wheat meat, brown rice and vegetables. Not surprisingly, I loved this dish. The curry was watery but when mixed with the rice and tofu it all kind of soaked in it and it tasted like a blend of happiness. After I was done I felt full and very satisfied. As for my partner, he ordered the birdie burger — suggested by our waitress — but he somehow ended up with what we think was a vegan chicken sandwich. Though, yes, surprisingly, he liked his dish he was not too happy with the toasted bread. It should have been a bun. He clearly asked for one. We would rate the food good to very good. The service however was poorly. She was not attentive at all since we didn’t get what we asked for. She was distant: she didn’t greet us when we entered, hardly looked up even, and she was deathly quiet when she brought our meals — they came separately. One thing I want to give the place credit for though, besides the food, is the available and free magazines about a meatless, dairy and animal cruelty free lifestyle. I didn’t feel a lot of passion coming from the waitress but I did get inspired to go fully vegetarian or even vegan by these magazines. Now I have to make sure my partner gets as excited as I am.

They were not welcoming or friendly at all when I went inside. The menu is a mish-mash of food genres(sushi, a couple of curries, burgers, wraps, etc), but nothing creative. The space is awkwardly laid out, and the bathroom is in the back of the kitchen. I ordered yellow curry, and tried to pay with my debit card, but got chewed-out by the lady who was trying to pressure me in to buying more stuff to satisfy the $ 10 minimum. Yeah, I had the cash in my wallet, but after her attitude, I decided I didn’t want her touching my food. When I politely said«ok, maybe next time», she yelled at me some more. I’m glad I noticed Palms across the street, because I really wanted Panang curry(not«yellow»).

Truly Vegan Restaurant is okay. But they’e not going to be winning over many carnivores to the vegan cause any time soon. I personally think that a vegan restaurant needs to be out of this world to get meat-eaters and vegans alike to actually crave fake meat and quinoa dishes. The food is good but it’s very ordinary. The wraps are wraps; the seitan wrap I had once tasted as if I had made a snack wrap at home with some lettuce, tomato, chicken and avocado. Granted, the seitan was flavorful and does taste like meat. But it’s nothing spectacular. I’ve also tried the fake chicken burger and the spring rolls. Both good. And this place is a little awkward when dining in. The family who run the joint kind of just hang out and watch TV behind the counter. I never know whether or not it’s appropriate to talk at a normal volume. It’s close to my place(hey stalkers!) so I’ll be back when I’m in the mood for something healthy and relatively cheap.

At first I was going to give Truly Vegan 3 stars, thinking to myself after eating here last week that this spot was *just* like all those other vegan/Thai leaning restaurants all over the place. You know, half the menu is Thai food like curries, noodles, soups, etc, then the other half is sandwiches, wraps, and a bunch of random breakfast items for good measure. The Vegan Joint, California Vegan, Green Leaves Vegan and a few others come to mind as having almost the exact same menu. But just because I tried those other places first doesn’t mean I should penalize Truly for being much of the same, I had to think that if I came here first I probably would have been all about the food. So I set aside the fact I’ve encountered this menu 100 times before and tried to think just about this meal, this time, and I have to say it was pretty good stuff. The curry was fresh, the produce obviously in good order. They cooked it perfectly, not overcooked, not overcooked, but just right. A bit spicy, just as I asked. I snagged a bit of my lady’s salad too and I was impressed. So if you’re like me and you’ve hit up vegan restaurants all over the city, yes, you’ve likely seen this model before. But if I was in the area and hungry for that type of grub I wouldn’t hesitate to return to Truly, it gets the job done. It’s smaller inside than some of the competitors noted above but it’s cute, the staff was friendly, and our food came out pretty damn fast. Is this cutting edge cuisine? No. But if you like vegan food, especially Thai food or sandwiches, I say give it a shot.

I think this is the first time Unilocal has really steered me in the wrong direction. Truly is not a 4-star place, in my mind. The pros: the location is easy to access right off the 101. The service was friendly if not particularly attentive. The ambiance was decent and the place seemed clean enough. The cost is reasonable, but I’m still not sure if it’s worth it. The cons: bland, bland, bland food. I tried the lentil burger with cheese, fries, and the pad thai. I have never had a pad thai this flavorless before. The lentil burger was better, thanks to the cheese and veganaise. The fries were actually really good and crispy, but how hard is it to make fries? I put some of the brownish salt on the fries and the wondered, why is the salt brown? I’ve been vegan almost five years and eat at vegan places a lot, but the brown salt is new to me. I wanted to like this place a lot as it is a mom-and-pop vegan place, but I just was really disappointed. If this was the only vegan place around, I would go there again, but in a five mile radius there are plenty of other vegan options. Sorry, Truly! I appreciate the effort to serve vegan food, but it just didn’t work for me!

The menu has a wide variety — from noodle dishes, stir-fry and curry dishes to sandwiches and even pancakes, you can go over and over without getting bored. The food is delicious, fresh, filling, and affordably priced. After going a few times, I would recommend the lentil burger, but everything I’ve had has been great.

I’m a fan of the more simpler meals that don’t cost much. I don’t need 5 star restaurants. I have good enough credit to be able to go to one and blow a fifty but why be so dumb with my money? I came here yesterday after a long 5 mile walk in Griffith Park. I was tired and wanted something different to try. I was going to go to vegan house 2 on Wilcox but decided to jump off of the bus here. Im glad i made that decision. They have a menu outside the restaurant like most vegetarian places for those that are too leery to go inside. I looked over the menu scanning it for the best deals that i could find that would fill me up after sweating all day in the sun walking. I found a deal, and decided to enter inside. When i walked inside noone was in there. I didn’t let that bother me since a lot of Vegan restaurants don’t get that much buisness. Its a small clean place on the corner of Bronson and Hollywood Blvd. Oh and there’s only 6 tables so this really isn’t a place for a group of people. I took a seat and ordered the number 80. The owner lady came out to bring me water but it had no ice. I didn’t get upset nor did i ask for any. This is unlike me but i will say that they must have used the best water filter there is on the market. The water tasted better than Figi Water and that’s about the clearest water Ive ever drank! Anyway, this review isn’t about me or the water. Its about the food and the fact that the #80.Simply Seitan or sensational Seitan or whatever was seasoned to perfection. They give you a choice of potatoes or rice and it comes with the veggies. The veggies were steamed so there isn’t much to report about them. All steamed veggies taste the same! The potatoes had a nice seasoning blend on them. They weren’t bland in any way. The star of the main dish was the Seitan. It didn’t taste like meat but then again it’s not meat so how could you ask for anything like that? Good place to eat in Hollywood by the freeway that will make you want to come back for more delicious hot vegan food.
