Best beef in town, but I enjoy their breaded chicken sandwiches more. Highly highly recommend this restaurant. Both dine in and take out orders are available and you can place orders by phone. Great restaurant

Love mr. Beef! It’s how a beef sandwich should taste. Everybody’s always talking about some local chain being the best(starts with a p and ends with ‘s, ewww) but they couldn’t hold a candle to Mr. Beef. The hours are tough but just gotta get there earlier!

The ONLY beef I will eat. They are unbelievable ! They’re the best dipped with hot giard and mozz. Mmm mm mm. When you want THE Italian beef. This is the best. Unfortunately, hours are slim and a little ridiculous. The portions of fries and beef sandwich size have decreased immensely. I’ll spend the money because it’s that good, but try getting more staff in order to stay open later and not have to overcharge for money makeup for unopened hours.

We tried this place for the first time today. I must say that the beef is really good. For me it is the second best I have ever had and I have tried many. A very close second to only 1. Having said that the sandwich is a classic Italian beef. There is plenty of beef on a realy nice bread. You can get the usual toppings like red sauce, peppers, cheese, etc. I had mine dipped with red sauce. Realy delicious! I also tried the Chicago style hot dog. It was very good also but not the best I ever had but a very good represntation of the classic for sure. The menu has a few other items like chicken sandwiches and a few sides like fries and such. The only minor negative is that they will not provide extra au jus on the side for those who do not like their sandwich wet or dippped. The frist time I have ever run into that. Otherwise this is a great version of the classic Chicago Italian Beef.

Visited for first time in weekday shortly after noon. First off, service was excellent. Cashier was ready to take order, greeted me when I entered and thanked me when I left. The paper towels were even filled without my asking during my visit. The beef was excellent! Nicely seasoned and served hot. Tip: the jr beef is less beef than regular but still should satisfy most appetites. The fries were plain, but salt, pepper, and ketchup was available. Overall excellent first visit, excellent service and excellent food! They even have beer and mints available!

Possibly the best italian beef in the Chicago area! Johnnie’s and this place are tied for the best beef in my opinion. The price is on the higher end but the beefs are definitely not skimpy and they are worth the price. This place is always clean and the staff is friendly. I think some of the negative reviews must be for the other mr. Beef locations which I dont think are affiliated with this one, and they definitely aren’t as good! The only negative thing I have to say is that their hours don’t really make sense. They close way too early! Edit: After my last few disappointing visits to Johnnies beef I can now say that original Mr. BEEF is the best beef in the Chicago area period!

After having MR. Beef in the N. Side(666Orleans) and not liking it much, I decided to stop in in Homer and check out Mr. Beef. The counter girl seemed a little aloof, however let me tell you she was the kindest, sweetest young lady you can imagine. Asked about the beef, and met a very outspoked customer at the counter, she couldn’t rave more about MR. Beef. So I ordered a Beef, dipped with a side of sweet peppers, cheese fries and a soft drink, my son picked Raspberry tea,(I had tap water) OMG! Hands down the best beef sandwich, i have had in years! The sweet peppers were flavorful and cooked to perfection and plenty of them! Fries were cooked well, but I didn’t care for the cheese, my son did though, Later after eating, my son asked to borrow a pencil so he could finish his homework. as I ordered a beef, dipped to go for my wife as mine was so good. The girl at the counter gave him a nice bic pencil, and said, keep this, to remember me, my son was on cloud 9. Best beef I have had in a long while. Courteous staff. The owner is the son of one of the original owners. Stop in have some yummy Italian beef.

I’ve been to most of the great beef joints in the city & suburbs. I’ve even attempted at Steve Dolinsky’s list of his all time favorites. I’m about 75% through the list, but this is about Mr. Beef. There’s no need to overthink this. It’s a really good beef sandwich. It’s good bread with a good giardiniera. Apparently the beef sandwich nazi in the kitchen, makes all the sandwiches. I assume he’s the owner. I don’t mean this is a derogatory way either. It’s no different than a Chris Bianco making every pizza at Pizzeria Bianco in Arizona & I respect that. I also love that pizza. At least until a nazi minion comes around, the product is made exactly the same way by the same guy. I’m just not sure what happens if the guy’s sick one day. Do they not open? My only issue? If I have the beef sandwich dining in, I like the beef juice on the side. I love dipping as I go along. The juice stays hot & each bite is hot. If I take the sandwich home, I don’t want my sandwich dipped, as we know that when you get home, you’ve got bread that’s totally broken down from the juice. So juice on the side is the only way for me. Why the dissertation on an jus on the side? The nazi doesn’t allow au jus on the side! I want to understand this. A guy comes along & gets the au jus on the side. He takes the cup of juice to his au jus lab in a secret location in Berwyn. We find out that it’s water, garlic, beef drippings, etc, etc, etc. The guy then recreates the the sandwich. Just like that. He sells his trailer home, borrows money from Mom, and opens up his own beef sandwich joint four blocks away from Mr. Beef. He’s an overnight success. Mr. Beef is out of business. I get it. I would lose sleep over that too Mr. Beef. Dick Portillo just sold his empire for a billion bucks. And you can get the juice on the side!
