If you’re in south Florida visit this place. I’ve lived here my whole life. And it’s been around longer than I can remember. It’s a relaxing spot. No need to dress up or get fancy. Come as you are. The brisket burnt ends are great. Order those! Very homey feel. Like moms cooking. Also order the sweet potato fries and some sweet tea.

Old school BBQ style picnic seating. The best seat in the house I would say is the middle table everyone would get a nice view of the big tv. The service here is fantastic, Chris made our day she was very helpful in telling us everything in the menu and we had lots of questions. The corn nuggets were fantastic and the large wings were awesome. The outside layer of the wings were fried and it had a hair thin layer of acute crunchy crisp and once you bite you get the juice of the chicken cooked exquisitely burst. The real deal here is the Beef Ribs you don’t need a knife the meat just falls off. They were cooked well but not burnt they were perfect in every sense of the word. The side dish of cornbread casserole was also worth noting very good. Can’t go wrong here in any way. The portions are real generous and we had much to take home, so we got two meals for one can’t complain about that. If you want a mouthwatering and satifying barbecue experiance go check out this gem of a place they been around since 1950 and now I know why. Great Job Shiver’s!

We came down to Homestead to visit a friend. She recommended Shiver’s and said it was really good. We decided to give it a try. Let me just start by saying ABSOLUTELYDELICIOUS! I’ve had barbecue in many places and this is by far one of the best I’ve had in years! We ordered 2 full racks of baby back ribs and a half chicken. We got the mashed potatoes and bbq beans. With corn on the cob on the side. The corn on the cob was regular. Nothing special. The bbq beans were ok as well. Now to get to the great stuff… The baby back ribs were absolutely delicious! The mashed potatoes and gravy were super delicious as well. Some of the best I’ve ever had. My daughter is super picky and always skips the gravy on the mashed potatoes and only eats the ribs from one other establishment. She really liked their ribs and mashed potatoes with gravy. She even commented on how delicious they were. The chicken was delicious as well. Needless to say we stuffed our faces with no regrets. It was excellent! To be honest we came down to Homestead the next day to visit our friend again and wound up ordering Shivers again! We weren’t at all sorry. We got the corn nuggets this time! Spectacular! I recommend you check this place out.

Enjoyed a late lunch at Shiver’s Bar-B-Q on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered the Corn Nuggets and Fried Mac & Cheese for an appetizer and shared a Baby Back and Brisket Combo with Cole Slaw and Cheesy Hashbrown Casserole as the sides. Quality For me the highlights were the Baby Back Ribs and the Corn Nuggets. The Ribs were excellent in terms of texture as they literally were soft enough to melt in your mouth. The Corn Nuggets were unique and delicious as it was essentially deep fried creamed corn. It was a great substitute for the more traditional corn bread and I was a fan. For me the Cole Slaw was just average, which is disappointing because I believe it is the most important side for a quality BBQ meal. The Brisket was not bad, but could have used a bit more flavor and was a bit more fatty than I would have liked. I would not recommend the Fried Mac & Cheese, it was too dried out and I also did not really enjoy the Cheesy Hashbrown Casserole and would have probably preferred a more traditional side. Quantity I have no complaints about the quantity of food that was provided. Both the appetizers came with more than enough to share and one combo meal was enough for me and my date to share. With what we ordered we were definitely ready for a nap as soon as we finished. Value Shiver’s is a family table styled BBQ with a emphasis on take-out so to me everything was a bit expensive. Maybe it is cheaper in bulk, but it seemed a bit pricey for what we ordered. Ambiance Shiver’s is located right off of Rt. 1 down in Homestead near the Air Force Base. The inside is set up with several large family seating tables, so expect some company if you come during normal dining hours. The restaurant was bustling when we were there and where we sat down definitely could have used a wet rag to clean up a bit. The place has one broken television hanging from the wall and surprisingly they were not playing any music while we were there yet it was still very loud. The walls are loaded with southern décor with insults and slogans as with a typical BBQ spot, but nothing really stood out except the fact that it was not the cleanest of restaurants. Crowd Even at an off hour the place was packed, which personally was not the best as sitting between two families with young children is not always ideal. The other patrons are what you may expect at a BBQ place down in Homestead, and there were way more children than adults, which is always concerning too me. Service I have no real complaints about our waitress. Although it took a little bit to figure out we needed to be helped, she was fast and efficient. Once again it would have been nice if someone wiped off the table when we sat down, but it played a minor part in the overall experience. Parking There is a decent sized lot in front of the restaurant, and it did seem to have some overflow to the nearby grass. I don’t think it would necessarily ever be a problem finding a spot. Extra With so many BBQ places all over Miami it seems an unnecessary trek to come down to Homestead to get food that is just as good as you would find in Miami. It was a bit surprising to me how well received Shiver’s is, as I found it pretty standard BBQ. Not terrible food, but I do not see myself making a return visit.

Stopped by here on a recent trip and was blown away with this BBQ. First off, this is a family style restaurant with large tables — you come in and find seats yourselves somewhere in the room — you may end up next to some strangers at the table if they’re busy, which is expected. They’ll come by with placemats/menus and utensils, and then you just order as in any place. Bring your check to the front when you’re done and pay at the register. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and packed with flavor, but they paled in comparison to the pulled pork. Never have I tasted pulled pork with this much flavor. Bean side had a sweet character, really good. Mac n cheese side was really just fair, but cole slaw was excellent. I missed having a smoked sweet potato(common in MO), but the meat here was some of the best I’ve had. Definitely come here.

Very good BBQ. Had ribs, sweet potato, soufflé, Cole slaw. All seemed homemade. Didn’t even want to add sauce to ribs. They fell off the bone and were good and juicy. Wait staff was very efficient and friendly. «Family style seating» of groups at picnic tables turned out to be fun.

I was really excited to go eat at Shiver’s because of all the reviews I had read. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was not really worth the hype. As an avid lover of southern bar-b-q and a self-proclaimed grill master, I take bar-b-que very seriously. The food was tasteful however, it was a little dry. The ribs were not fall off the bone and the brisket a little cold. I gave this place 3 to 3.5 stars because collectively it is a nice place to go eat, however if you don’t live in Homestead then it could be a long car for you. I drove from Miami and was a little disappointed. I would recommend if you’re in the area but probably not worth the long drive.

Was not impressed with the dine in. Had pork, beef and sausage meats with jalapeño cheese grits, green beans and okra. Out of all that the best items were the okra and the grits. I expect they pour the okra out of a bag. Don’t get me wrong. The okra was really good! The plate’s food was barely warm. The meat had little stand-alone flavor. Had to add sauce to make it palatable. The sausage was not like any andouille I’d ever eaten. Andouille has bite. This sausage had not even a bark. Overall, quite disappointing.

We picked up some Shivers(shy-vers) yesterday for our little Super Bowl party. The bbq was a hit! The ribs, on point. The jumbo chicken wings, delish. My favorites the corn bread soufflé and banana pudding were extra yummy yesterday. I have yet to come and eat at their restaurant but definitely worth the drive to pick up. Just pop in the oven and warm up and boom you’re ready for some good grubbin. I highly recommend.

Consistently the best quality true South Florida BBQ around. Their spare ribs are fall-off-the-bone delicious. The sides include collard greens, black eye peas, fried mac and cheese, fried okra, beans, cheese grits, and much more. They offer pork, beef, chicken… Including brisket. My favorite is the brisket/pulled pork combo. My wife favors the pork short ribs. Always too much to eat, but try to save room for dessert… Wonderful banana pudding in a mason jar. Oh, and have some authentic sweet tea with your meal!

The only place I go to for BBQ besides my back yard. Whenever I’m entertaining and my guest want bbq that’s where we go doesn’t matter where we are it’s worth the drive FTL or Ocean Reef seriously the best BBQ. I’ve have Georgia boys tell me it’s close to if not the best smoked bbq they’ve had being as they’re from GA, that was a wow factor! I’ve ordered every meal combo except the pulled pork sandwich. For sides, I too have tried them all except the fries. A MUST try is the sweet potato casserole, corn bread soufflé!!! One of the server Kristy makes the desserts and does a great job her specialty is the banana pudding along with the peach cobbler. Dinner is not complete without dessert. I warn you the food is heavy so if you can save half as you will need space for dessert &their sweet ice tea. THEREALSWEET TEA-Louisiana Black tea! I personally ask for half unsweetened at the bottom then add sweetened for the perfect balance.(That’s just me) Gave them 4 stars for the simple fact they’re not organic thus, use GMO ingredients along with the fact the toast is a slice of white bread nothing special.(I usually ask them to omit the toast on my plater.)

After hearing so many great things about this place, my family and I decided to visit. It was pretty packed when we arrived so we waited outside with a few beers. We were a party of 13 and sat down in about 20 minutes on a Saturday night. Since we were so many people, we pretty much ordered a whole lot on the menu. Starters: fried pickles, fried mac and cheese, potato skins(MYFAVORITE), and BBQ fries For dinner we ordered the ribs, short ribs, brisket, chicken, and some beef ribs. In my opinion, the beef ribs hardly had any meat. The flavors are great though and the rib meat fell off the bone. The best part about dinner were the sides! Cornbread soufflé is a MUST! I also enjoyed the jalapeño cheesy grits. When it came to dessert, we ordered the banana pudding that the waitress raved about. In my opinion, it tasted like boxed pudding. I was expecting chunks of banana in it. I thought the peach cobbler and bourbon pecan pie were much better. I will be back!

Found this local BBQ pit through the magic of Unilocal.Ordered takeout due to the rain and keeping the family in. The food order was on point and amazing. It is amazing. I can tell you one thing, that the ribs are BAE, and the corn… Don’t even get me started! The mini corn dogs are the best I have ever had. Miami isn’t exactly known for BBQ, but with a restaurant like this it should be. Before I start throwing bouquets at a place I like to try it a few times to see if they truly are consistently good. Last night was the third time that we’ve been to this restaurant in the last few months and they did not disappoint. The food was great… time after time after time. The place has a traditional BBQ set up with wooden picnic benches for all to sit on. It can get a little cozy when the place is jammed… and it does get jammed! The servers and service have always been good to us. I’ve had the brisket, pulled pork, and chicken. Each time the smokey taste was great. My personal favorite is the brisket although my wife prefers the pulled pork. Either way you, if you’re a true fan of BBQ, you won’t be disappointed. Although the meats dont need it, each table setting has the traditional BBQ sauces(a sweet and a smokey) as well as a mustard. But apparently this isn’t enough because the server always brings out a warm homemade savory/spicey sauce as well. This sauce is awesome! Just a little of this sauce complements the brisket and makes it out of this world great! Not too sweet and not too spicey. This last time we also tried the burnt ends which are coated in a sweet sauce as well as the cornbread soufflé(chosen because I’ve read other Unilocalers rave about them). The cornbread soufflé is also very sweet but crazy good. Although way to much food to eat for two people, the burnt ends and cornbread soufflé were incredible! Its unlike any dish at a BBQ place that i have ever had. I join many other Unilocalers in recommending these two items. Overall, I highly recommend Shivers to anyone and everyone. For visitors heading to/from the Keys, to the Miami resident, this place is well worth a 30 minute drive to no-mans land. If you’re in the mood for BBQ… go!

At first I was not completely impressed with this place. It was just your regular, run of the mill BBQ place. Then I tasted the ribs. OMG. I had not had ribs like that ever. They fall off the bone and completely melt in your mouth. Only other place that is comparable is Flanigans. And the corn bread soufflé. Wow. Those 2 things are worth the drive to this place. Everything else is «meh.» But yea. Want ribs? This is it. The seating is communal. So get ready to get friendly with your neighbor. But lunch time is a good time to go since it is not too busy. Service was pretty good. Only 2 waitresses during the shift that I was there but they were very fast and even gave us a complimentary dessert when I mentioned it was my fiancé’s birthday. I’d go back.

This bbq is an institution in southern Miami-Dade, as it’s been around forever. In fact, I remember coming here since I was a kid. Overall, very good barbeque. One of the two best I’ve had in South Florida — although not the best I’ve ever had(that would be in Houston, unsurprisingly). Shiver’s is neck and neck with Shorty’s a bit further north. And while I think Shorty’s baby back ribs are a bit better, Shiver’s clearly wins in the Spare Rib department — they’re smoky, slow-cooked, flavorful and fall off the bone without being dry. Plus, their side selections are very good, including well-executed baked beans and cole slaw — not to mention items like sweet potato fries and collard greens. Of course, they also offer quite good chicken that’s moist and perfectly cooked, as well as staples like brisket and pulled pork. Also, their Key Lime Pie is great and authentic-tasting. They get the balance between tart and sweet right, with it neither being a mouth-puckerer or sickeningly sugary. It was so worth it that when we were living in California and I wanted to bring my wife a sample of authentic Key Lime Pie, I took a chance of missing my plane to detour here for a pie-to-go. Due to this side trip, I had to drive like a maniac in pouring rain to the airport. All this for their Key Lime. That’s good pie. Finally, while Shiver’s sports the standard picnic-table and cement floor approach of almost all authentic bbq places, everything is quite clean. In fact, I’d say it’s cleaner than typical for an authentic rib joint(i.e. not some Tony Roma’s style faux-bbq place). Overall, I think it’s worth the time and going a bit out of your way to experience real, proper low ‘n slow ribs and brisket.

BBQ was not one of the food genres that i had on my radar when planning for our South Florida excursions BUT the Homestead locals insisted that we eat at Shriver’s BBQ while we were here. They weren’t lying. After spending time in Atlanta, St. Louis, KC and Texas I’ve kinda become a BBQ snob so needless to say I have high expectations. When we arrived it looked like something was going down in the restaurant because there was 10+ squad cars in the parking lot and a few officers loitering the parking lot. Usually this is an omen to NOT stop and find someplace to eat… Nosy, I asked a loitering officer if there was something going on inside and h said that they have a birthday dinner going on inside the restaurant. So on this night, Shivers was the safest restaurant in town… After the 10 minute wait to be seated, I ordered the fried pickles, squealing potato skins and a pork trio(½ slab of baby back ribs, hot link and pulled pork)
The pickles were the only things that I did not care too much for. The pickles were greasy and what little brading that was on the pickle did not hold. It seemed that our pickles were rushed. Thats the only explanation that i can think of why there were so meh… The squealing skins were an interesting twist to the normal skins that everyone is accustomed to. These crispy little monsters packed some serious heat! They made the beer go by a little faster(I’m sure that’s why they are made this way j/k) The meats: Pulled Pork, Baby Back Ribs & Hot Link Of the trio, the ribs were the superstar! — Fall off the bone — Nice smoke ring — Nice char and glaze. The pulled pork was decent BUT I think would be better fresh off the grill. I could tell that the portion I got was swimming in a warmer for a while. In summary, I will say that Shiver’s is honest to goodness BBQ even for a BBQ snob like me :) Eat with confidence –Pat

Now this is what I call BBQ! Fall off the bone ribs, delicious sauce, delicious sides, win win win! We came here on a Sunday with some friends who had eaten here before and being that we were in the area and are always down for BBQ we stopped in for lunch. Be warned they can get super packed during lunch time so you may have to wait a while for a table. I ordered the half rack of ribs, pulled pork combo and shared multiple sides with my husband because I wanted to try them all. In all we had these sides: hash brown casserole, baked beans, cornbread casserole and sweet potato, they were all DELICIOUS. The sweet potato side is more like dessert for me because it was very sweet. I tried some of my husbands brisket and paired with their bbq sauce it was to die for. If you find yourself down south in Homestead stop by Shiver’s for some awesome BBQ at great prices. I’m already planning on going again very soon!

I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve eaten at Shiver’s over the years. Since that fateful day so many mango seasons ago when my dad decided he wanted to go «South» on US-1 and see what the heck was down there. I remember sitting in the back seat and leaning out the roll down window of his red Toyota Corolla, making those wavy motions with my hand as the air rushed beside the car. My mother as always, in the front passenger seat arguing with my father about driving too fast. Thanks to my mother’s caterwaul, my father decided to stop at that little brown building. I still remember how we sat in silence licking our fingers of sauce and the big BBQ stain on my new shorts from where I dropped a huge glob of sauce and pulled pork. Fast forward to today… I walked in for the umpteenth time to sit at the long picnic tables full of people devouring one or more of the combination platters that make this place famous. The smell of smoked meat, ribs, chicken, and corn on the cob all brings back those memories. The food is still as delicious as ever. Judging by the patrons sitting around me, it looks like generations of families still come here to have the famous Shiver’s sauce, messy fingers and all. For the uninitiated, here are a few suggestions… First, it’s going to be a messy, finger licking affair. There’s no way you’re not heaping that barbecue sauce on your meats. Secondly, if you bring the kids, make sure they’re wearing bibs or easy to wash garments. Because there’s no way they’re not heaping that barbecue sauce on their clothing. Order the combo platters. They’re a better value than ordering items individually. If you like different kinds of ribs, they have a combo platter for that too. The pulled pork is excellent with a heaping helping of that sauce. The brisket is perfectly cooked and if you add that mouth-watering sauce, it’ll be off the chain. As for the ribs, if you are extra hungry, get the full slabs. I guarantee you’ll eat the whole thing, with sauce. Sides? Order as many as you think you want to try. They’re all good and delicious. My favorites are the Sweet Potato Soufflé and the Cornbread Soufflé. The Cole Slaw comes in a close second. I always get the Hush puppies too… And yes, I dropped a glob of sauce on my shorts. Again… Shiver’s has an online menu here:

I am not a meat eater and still enjoyed this place very much. Corn soufflé, baked beans, mushrooms. My family had brisket, full rack, fried corn, etc… All very good. The place is not fancy but service was good and so was the food. Will come back.
