What a gem! This place feels like home. Great food, excellent service. I was antique shopping with my mom off Krome in downtown Homestead and wanted to take her somewhere different and quaint. The White Lion was the perfect spot! She ordered the old fashioned meatloaf and I chose the turkey melt. Both were delish! We will definitely be coming back again here soon.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been here but the experience stands out in my mind just because it was pretty bad. We started sitting outside which was nice until a huge palmetto bug began flying around us. Along with many other creepy crawlies. I lost my appetite at that point but we resumed our meal inside the restaurant. I ordered the only vegetarian option on the menu(pasta with vegetables, wah wah waaaaaah…) The food was very lacking. Literally just no flavor whatsoever. We hardly saw our server to even mention any issues. I haven’t been back since.

New find for us. A unique gem of a place with great food, extremely gracious hosts, terrific look and feel. Will come back again real soon for dinner and bringing friends and room for dessert next time!

…what can I say good about this place. The outside seating is nice to look at but it does need to be maintained. I would not recommend that at all unless you like stray animals coming to your table and begging for food. I believe that’s a health hazard. Reminds me of a homeless center. It smelled like cat piss. So we asked if we could move inside which was much better and a little homey. Service was mediocre and our waitress seemed to have been somewhere else in her own world. I was hoping that the food at least would be our savior because I heard great things but what I got was not that. It seemed like some Latin spin off of what southern home cooking should be. Horrible experience and my family will not be coming back. Shame, when I heard good things about it.

The place is very cute, I really liked the outdoor area. The bread rolls they first serve were warm and delicious. I ordered an entrée from the specials menu which was yellow tuna over angel hair pasta that had artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and capers. Overall the dish was very yummy, but alittle too many capers for my taste. The greek salad that my entrée came with was great, and I was really surprised at the large portion they gave. The entrée was also a large portion. The only thing I didn’t like are the stray cats that were roaming around the back area. They were hopping all over the empty tables and even hopped next to mine. It’s not sanitary to have animals around food.

Last weekend, my roommate and I were looking for fun things to drive to in South Florida, and White Lion Café in Homestead came up, so we decided to try it last night. We were intrigued by the websites advertisement of eclectic décor and live jazz and swing music. We got there last night(Friday) about 630. The hostess, who was also our waitress, was a little rude. Like she was tired and overworked. When we inquired about the live music, her response was«it’s just Matt tonight.» Obviously, we didn’t know what that meant, but we just said ok. We were initially sat inside, but we were moved outside to accommodate our party size since we didn’t have a reservation. Needless to say, I’m covered in mosquito bites. My latest count is 16. They should definitely invest in some repellants. As for the food, it was good. I had the art of chicken, which was a great pasta dish with a heavy dose of garlic. In fact, the only complaint anyone had was the quantity of garlic in our food. But the portions were huge and the prices were reasonable. The décor was as promised. Sort of like eating in an antique store. Overall, I’d go back, but with a reservation for an inside table and only after I called to verify music because our live swing and jazz music turned out to be a guy named Matt(albeit very good) playing cover songs.

Sat outside. very nice they had the big fans going. I had the grits and shrimp. very tasty and came out hot. My husband, unfortunately did not have a great experience. The potatoe soup was good but Luke warm. you need to serve soup hot! He ordered meatloaf with homemade mash potatoes and gravy. what he got was ice cold meatloaf and auj ouse. .no gravy. wth…the menu should state no brown gravy. Service was slow for cold food. Will not be back

Very good food served here for years. Highlight meals. Piccata w red snapper. Garden bucket with shrimp. Chicken salad. Sea food salad on warm croscient. Deserts are homemade always a good mix. Special flavored tea. Great for lunch and dinner. Outdoor patio dinning is good if the weather is nice. Most dishes $ 10 – 13 at lunch. High quality.

This is an awesome place! They allowed us to come in a little before dinner started, which was awesome since it was raining. The staff is super nice, very helpful and definitely know how to be hospitable. The ambiance and décor is fun with lots to look at and conversation starters galore! Not to mention my son got a big kick out of the bathrooms truck collection. Food was really great! My husband and son ordered the dolphin special and really thought it was fried nicely as well as the portion size. I ordered garden bucket pasta with shrimp. Shrimp was the bomb! Loved all the fresh veggies. Thanks ladies for all the tips and great service!!!

This place is like eating at grandma’s. The portions are big, the atmosphere is cozy and the dessert is to die for! My only complaint is that they are closed on Sunday’s. This is off the beaten path so going on a weekday is hard. We came for a going away lunch and it was planned in advance so we knew it was going to be an extended break. I would never come here during the week on a whim. But I will say, the food is worth the extra time.

I love White Lion. I sit outside, with cats in my lap, drinking their signature tea out of a mason jar. There’s live music inside sometimes. Desserts are homemade cakes and pies that someone made and brought in that day. There are fairy lights strung out on the patio. It’s just a weird, unique, cool, «old Homestead» sort of place, that actually does have pretty good food — you can get a lot of healthy or vegetarian options, but also classics like meatloaf and mashed potatoes. The menu is pretty expansive and I’ve never had anything bad. About as far from the chains as you can get, and easy to miss since it’s basically tucked back in the bushes between a middle school and a neighborhood. I don’t want to go everyday, mostly because it’s a little expensive for that, but I hope they’re always around when I remember and head over — usually about every three months or so.

Off the beaten path and adjoins a senior living facility. Love it here! It is like a little oasis in the middle of Homestead. Great home cooked food and kitsch atmosphere. Generous portions(I always take some home) and VERY reasonable prices. They are always busy for a reason!

The White Lion Café was a spot I found completely on accident, but definitely some place I would tell people to try. It kind of has that feel of a country cabin. Like that aunt everyone has that decorates from Kirkland and Cracker Barrel. Am I the only one with that aunt? The feel of the place, to me, is home. The men’s restroom is set up like a man cave; full of superhero signage and a working stop light. There’s mouthwash there as well for that after meal kiss. The portions are huge. I got the pasta bowl which was noodles with literally every(fresh) vegetable possible. It was enormous. You could add chicken to it, which I did, but honestly, it was so large I really didn’t need to. The vegetables tasted like they were picked from the garden that day. The drink cups were huge, which is always a plus to me. The service was great. Very friendly and welcoming, again, I feel like they want you to feel like you’re eating your meal in their kitchen. It’s such a cute spot. Perfect for a date or a nice family get together. There is both indoor and outdoor seating for those great Miami nights. It’s a bit of a drink unless you live in South Miami, but it’s kind of worth it.

I usually order off the specials board. I’ve been here so many times I’ve had everything on the menu except the PBJ&Dom. The cakes are delicious! One slice can easily be shared but they are so good that why would you!?! The soups are also quite tasty.

Why oh why did I try the homemade cakes?! Made by owner, they are good enough to be an excuse for sneaking over. Have yet to try anything on lunch or dinner menu that did not amaze me, not only with the over-the-top portions, but fresh homemade quality. Full bar that they are more than gracious to open if u so desire, and the staff makes you feel like family. I go every chance I get!

White Lion is a nice casual lunch spot! The service and the food are great! I had the Krab sandwich(comes with bacon, cheese, & tomato) on a nicely toasted piece of French bread. I chose potato salad for my side, and it was all good! The potato salad was homemade and delish! On the way in, I saw this display case with some larger than life desserts! After our meal, we were too full to order dessert, however, we were given a complimentary slice of chocolate cake for a very minor issue we had! I devoured a small portion later on that evening and it was heavenly! I look forward to returning to White Lion!

My sister and I arrived during the lunch rush. The restaurant was packed. We were told we had a 10 minuted wait. We sat in the cozy entrance and eyed their lovely open bar area and décor. Our hostess seated us in one of their rooms which was comfy and cozy. We both ordered the Mahi-mahi dippers with steak fries on a bed of lettuce with homemade coleslaw and a great big glass of spiced ice tea… absoulutely delish! The service was wonderful, our server suggested their decadant double chocolate cake for dessert and it was«to die for». Charming, quaint, picturesque… delicious food and great service. Thumbs-up!
