I’ve been twice and both times the food was just ok. I’m a Mexican food junkie(I eat tacos at least 2x a week) and personally I wouldn’t recommend this place. The meat(I got steak both times) was bland and flavorless.

Ordered Steak burrito-tasty! Beef taco-ok, and a side of rice-salty. It was ok.

Fast, good and inexpensive. Generous portions. And they have lamb! YUM — I always have the lamb burrito dinner! Usually bring dinner home to eat, but not always.

Very nice quiet authentic Mexican joint. They are underrated in my opinion, they’re always empty. The staff is friendly and the prices are good. I believe the location is what kills it, it can be easily missed.

Not sure why the reviews are so low. They have good food and good prices. I frequently order from there. The only complaint i have is that I wished they had a bigger menu but I’m sure they’re a somewhat new business so that stuff takes time.

Not sure why this place is only rated 3 stars(at the time of this review). I grew up in Northern California(and went to college in Southern California) and I think the food here is positively delicious. Hole-in-the-wall feel, positively delicious tacos, legit horchata, service was nothing to complain about either. On my last visit, I got lamb tacos and al pastor tacos, and felt like they knocked it out of the park! Haven’t tried anything else, but I’m definitely coming back to sample more of the menu.

I can’t seem to order anything but tacos here. But they’re delicious. And they have Coke in bottles made with real sugar(the coke, not the bottles). I think they’re 10 oz. which is all I want. But they have real sugar coke, which is a bonus. Good salsas(red and green). Next time, my loyal minions, I will order something other than tacos and give you my opinion on that part of the menu. Then I will go to Riverside Park and do there what I did at Central Park. Thanks, Uncle Leo.

I grew up in Santa Cruz, CA and have had a lot of authentic Mexican food– this place is the closest I’ve gotten to that taste since moving here 8 years ago. Greasy, a little, but it’s Mexican food, not health food :) The chicken burrito’s are super tasty, and the guac is delicious. You don’t go to Burrito Express for the ambiance, but for the taste and convenience to pick it up, take it home, and catch up on your favorite tv shows or movies.

Seriously, I find that most people have a very skewed idea of what Mexican should taste like, most of which are extremely Americanized. That said, Burrito Express is your best bang for your buck, the Birria is fantastic, there salsa and hot sauces are authentic and delicious, and the staff are quite pleasant. This is a very«at home» place in an older building, but don’t be fooled by ignorant pallets, try it for yourself! P. S. The Horchata is actually pretty good…

I don’t know why this place has such bad reviews! Yes, the dining room is very old fashioned and a little dive-y. But the food is great! It is very authentic! The burritos are giant, and I usually take half home. If you like Chipotle, well, this is the type of place that inspired Chipotle. Only better and more authentic.

Decent Mexican food, but they’ve raised prices on some items without making the new prices visible. You just have to take their word that what you’ve ordered is subject to the higher price.

First and last time at Burrito Express. My daughter is a burrito fiend, with her hands down favorite being Whatta Taco in Country Club Hills. We have gone for burritos all over the city, south, north, and west side and the suburbs too… none have been so awful as to make me write a review. In all fairness, the rice and beans were good. The steak burrito tasted precooked and had an off-flavor as if it had been almost burnt. My daughter kept insisting it wasn’t steak… it was, just a poor quality. The place also has an off smell, and the horchata was the worst I’ve ever experienced.

ive only been here once, but the steak torta was pretty good, and the chicken burrito was ok. im usually suspect about a mexican place that is so upfront on their menu concerning burgers and fries… but the salsa was super. it sound strange, but their beans are the best!

Fresh food fast. Basic Mexican – tacos, burritos, enchiladas, tortas. I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve had there. No frills but table service and quick carry out!

Nasty as hell! OMG My job loves to order from here– but the food sucks! It’s like warm slop all mixed together. No matter what you order– the food looks and tastes the same. Eww! Yuck. Wish I could give them NO stars… I love Mexican food, this place is HORRIBLE.

To say this place is greasy would be an understatement. Located right next to the Homewood Police and Fire Stations, this is a place where you can get some cheap food(if you can call if food). Don’t expect authentic Mexican. Very cheap but before diving into your wallet, ask yourself if you really want to subject your body to this food.

Yikes. Grease, grease and more grease. I know when you order cheese quesadillas it’s to be expected, but not the quantities that were literally oozing out of the ones I got here. Very lackluster service, which matched the equally lackluster food. A friend who was dining with me had a steak burrito with steak that left a lot to be desired. Very fatty and gristly. Eww. With the myriad of choices for Mexican cuisine in the south suburbs, there is no reason why I would ever feel compelled to pay Burrito Express a return visit.

Conveniently located in downtown Homewood just across the street from the local library, Burrito Express is a conveniently located mostly-Mexican restaurant. Aside from the standard fare of tacos, burritos, and the like, they serve a handful of more generic dishes such as hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and fish. Despite a diverse menu and friendly staff, the food at Burrito Express is sorely lacking. Although they start promising with pretty good chips and salsa, the meals were not pleasing. I had a cheese quesadilla dinner, with pretty awful quesadillas soaking in grease that dripped everywhere. The rice was flavorless and bland, and the beans were overwhelmingly mediocre. There was a minor bright spot in the hot sauce, but I was overall displeased with my meal. Based on anecdotal evidence from someone who joined me, the meat is pretty gross. The steak burrito was mediocre, with the meat being overly fatty and greasy, making for a pretty unpleasing burrito. Although it isn’t the worst Mexican food I have ever had, I won’t be at Burrito Express again, being that the much better Burrito Station is only a mile away.

Really really good authentic tacos, Prices are good too. Love the quesadillas also. I come here about twice a month for take out, sometimes more. about as good a taco or burrito as I have had.
