Exceptional! We stayed in «The Master Suite» upstairs room with king bed & comfortable sitting area with pullout sofa. The entire home is decorated with actual family heirlooms from the Chaney family. The hosts Gary and Lori are superb, the breakfast was delicious set on their stone patio and the setting was beautiful. They have their own dock on the lake which is a special perk. It feels like you are staying with Family — that is if your family is «Old Tahoe Money». Can’t wait to return!

I took my girlfriend here for our 2-year anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Homewood at the Chaney House. We went in June and the weather was fantastic so that helps, but the house itself is amazing too. The house itself is historical and breathtaking. The house really takes your«out of this world» and into some kind of alternate reality with its Castle-like design and perfectly preserved interior. We stayed in the Russell room which had a very comfortable king sized bed, a small view of the lake out the windows, and a small desk and extra lounging chair in the room. It also had it’s own bathroom which was just outside of the room(private hallway at top of stairs). Accessing the room was only by spiral staircase. The bathroom shower may be a little«cozy» if you are over 6ft tall. Gary and Lori are incredible hosts and very welcoming. They live in the house year-round and love what they do– they’ve been running the B&B for about 30 years! The morning breakfast in the fresh outdoor patio was excellent and filling. There are plenty of restaurants and summer activities to do nearby. Gary can recommend some great spots for food in town(just about 4 miles away) and even went out of his way to call ahead to some kayaking rental places down the street to see what they had available. He also gave us great tips for places to hike! We had an amazing hike at D.L. Bliss state park and then went swimming in the lake afterwards. The house comes with a private pier and small«beach» at your disposal. You can go jump into the water if you’d like. or just sit out on the pier at night and star gaze. the owners will provide you with blankets for chilly evenings and towels for taking a dip. You could fish out there too if you’d like I imagine. there were fishing pole holders at the end of the pier. Can’t wait to go back! As Gary would say«Have fun and ENJOY!!!»

We Love this place… My husband surprised me with a weekend in Tahoe and found this little gem. The owners Gary and Lori are great hosts(your stay includes appetizers and wine from 5 – 7 pm and a beautiful breakfast«what a deal»). We have stayed in Russell’s room as well as the master suite and both are great. The house and location are beautiful. HIGHLY recommend

Chaney House is every bit as wonderful as the other reviewers say. The setting is gorgeous, featuring a private dock with chaises longues and umbrella. The property itself is remarkable, with a comfortable living room and lovely dining area. We stayed in the«Master Suite» which was quiet — dead silent, roomy and airy, with excellent bathroom and the most comfortable bed we’ve found in any hotel! Breakfast was excellent, and a quick remark about our dietary preferences produced a superb, tailored meal and delicious coffee. The location was perfect for us. Obexer’s, a mile south, is a small general store with excellent sandwiches and coffee. A mile north was a well-maintained and popular hiking trail to a spectacular overlook. The Chaney family are wonderfuly thoughtful and welcoming. Their friendly spirit was infectious, and we made friends with — and went out to dinner with — two other guests. We look forward to a return stay on our next visit to Lake Tahoe — there’s no need to try any other place.

The property itself is gorgeous. The stone walled house with exposed wood beams lets you believe you’re in a whole other place. The rooms are decorated with nice touches and the beds are very comfortable. We had access to their pier and little beach cabana to sit and enjoy the lake and watch the sunrise. At night we sat in the common area and enjoyed a quiet game of chess. The breakfast in the morning was very satisfying. We sat outside in the crisp cool morning with a heater and blankets to keep us warm if needed. The coffee and juices were never empty. Lori preps and cooks the meal herself. We had a freshly cut up fruit cocktail to start. There was also a tasty coffee cake and artichoke quiche. Great way to start the day. In the afternoons, Gary and Lori make available wine, cheese, cold cuts, and crackers for guests to enjoy — either in the house or down by the water. The owners Lori and Gary are great. The provide a wonderful atmosphere and environment for you to just relax and enjoy the lake. Gary was able to recommend activities and look up other things that we were interested in. His knowledge of the area(trails, locations, expected traffic) was wonderful. He was even able to help recommend a nice restaurant on the water and made reservations for us.

My wife and I spend quite a bit of time in Tahoe(mostly Truckee as her family has a vacation home there). We wanted to do a couple days of skiing but didn’t want to be bothered with opening and closing the house up so we decided we’d just find a hotel. Luckily, the Homewood website had the Chaney house down as one of their recommendations. Checked the website, showed it to the wife, picked up the phone and away we went. We were delayed(considerably) getting on our way, but even though we didn’t show up at the Chaney House until almost 10pm Gary had a glass of wine and a warm smile waiting for us. The next morning we walked out on their pier through the fresh four inches we received that night with a hot cup of coffee and enjoyed the view of the Lake Tahoe waking up in the snow. When we got back inside, Lori had an unbelievable breakfast waiting for us: Fresh fruit with sherry whipped cream, eggs benny, juice, more coffee. Homewood is only a half mile down the road and the mountain was exactly what we’d been needing. We tracked fresh powder all day and when we got back to the Chaney House, they we’re waiting with a smörgåsbord of cheese, sausage and wine. We talked with Lori and Gary though the rest of the bottle and took their dinner suggestion for someplace we’d never been and was every bit as good as they suggested. The next day was every bit as great as the first– only we had to head home after Homewood. I would highly recommend the Chaney House for anyone looking for a great accommodation, in a super cool old stone château with great food and über-friendly folks.

Wonderful historic stone house right on the lake, with it’s own private dock and beach cabana. We stayed for 3 nights in the«master suite,» a spacious bedroom with sitting area and private bath. Gary and Lori Chaney were perfect hosts, and Lori’s breakfasts were fantastic. We will be back.
