Played tourist on Valentine’s Day weekend in Honokaa! When we saw Hawaiian art particularly this one of Pele in the window we had to add it to our collection. The Braddah Tony was very knowledgeable and the place felt like Hawaiian History! Very Authentic stuff in this store! A hidden gem in historic Honokaa town if you enjoy local art.

Usually stop and buy gifts, etc. from Taro Patch. Had to use the bathroom and they charged a quarter. Really?!! Auwe! Treat customers with aloha, as ohana, and it will come back many times over in sales. I was going to buy something worth over $ 150, but decided against it after the bathroom fiasco! Live and learn…

I visited Taro Patch Gifts about one month ago when I traveled to Big Island. I wanted to find gardenia lotion and one native Hawaiian guy I happened to meet suggested checking out this store because it carries many different floral scented soaps and lotions. The store doesn’t look big from the outside, but when I stepped into the store, I was surprised to find that it sells so many things. Everything is displayed on the shelves in an organized and beautiful way, so I really enjoyed browsing through the items inside the store. Just like the native Hawaiian guy told me, Taro Patch Gifts does carry a variety of floral scented soaps and lotions. After comparing different scents, I still bought gardenia lotion because it smells the best for me. Although it smells good, the lotions and body creams are a little bit pricier than I had expected. On the day I went, a guy named Eddie was working in the store. He is a very welcoming, friendly, and hospitable person! He sells macadamia nuts in the store, but he kept inviting me to try the freshly cracked macadamia nuts for free while I was shopping inside the store. I could just tell that he did that because he wanted to share, not because he wanted to sell the macadamia nuts to me. Overall, this shopping experience was pleasant, and I would recommend people to shop at Taro Patch Gifts, or even just stop by to chat with friendly Eddie.

My huband and I visited the taro patch store on our anniversary trip in September. The inventory was varied and appealing. there were some items that we had not seen elsewhere before. We did purchase a hand made metal turtle which has a lovely patina, which is displayed in a central spot in our totally remodeled yard and deck. It is a perfect addition and finishing touch. it also reminds us of a great time and wonderful people. However; what set this store apart from almost all the rest was the personal service and overwhelming friendliness we were afforded by the women who worked there that particular day. OMG! if only every store, hell, every other store, employed people like them… well, you get the idea. and as a completely added bonus, after learning that is was our anniversary, one of the women gave my wife and i a very special and personal gift. what a sweetie. it may be a while until we get back to the big island, but you can bet we’ll be returning to their little store. you couldn’t keep us away.
