We had pupus, drinks, and dessert here last night. There were 5of us, we waited about 10mins for a table. While we waited we were able to sit outside in the wait/drinking area.(Non-smoking area) We order drinks outside, however they were delivered to our table because of the short wait. Our sever was Rachel P., she was very polite and helpful with decisions on menu choices. For my drink I ordered the Guinness IPA Nitro, it was very yummy. Hoppy. with just the right under note of subtle fruit. Food ordered: Kale & Herb Hummus, ok nothing too special Spinach & Onion dip, very good! Same good chips as the hummus Truffled Deviled Eggs, to die for Beet, Goay Cheese, Pear, Tomato, Quinoa Salad, amazing Candied Bacon, good, but it was just bacon to me Caprese Salad, yummy and fresh Dessert ordered: Beeramisu, very different from what I expected. It was a chocolate mousse with semi sweet chocolate chips at the bottom Bacon Cheesecake Balls w/Rasp drizzle, yummy! We also really like the Colorado Whiskey I’d definitely recommended this tiny cool place for a night to chill and have good food. You even get a reward card, for every $ 200 you spend you get $ 20 back.

BREW’d is one of the reasons I’m glad I moved to Kaimuki. I can walk down to this trendy, Portland-esque gastropub on a balmy night, have a few brews and bites, and walk home without worrying about a DD. There are so many great things about this space. It has a great location on Waialae, a cool minamalist/rustic space outside lit up with strings of lights to wait with drinks for your table, epic chalk art on the walls depicting scenes of Belgian monks and the beer brewing process, and hipster chandeliers and lighting inside. I’ve only found two downsides, the proximity of the tables(If you sit on the bench on the wall side, your butt will most likely graze, rest on, or invade the personal space of the table next to you when you try to squeeze out. So either make the person with the smallest butt sit there, or resign yourself to no bathroom visits.) and the«no Unilocaling» sign behind the bar(I’m taking it as reverse psychology– it makes someone want to break the rules! Besides who doesn’t love Unilocal?!) The draft list is always changing, but the servers are super helpful, just describe to them what you like to drink and they can recommend something. Also, you can always sample the drafts before you commit. Last night I had the Stillwater Existent, a dark Belgian style which tasted to me like coffee. They have a number of bottles and in addition to hard liquors, serve beer based cocktails. My bestie and I love the one that tastes like a Creamsicle, made with a hef type wit beer. The food last night was awesome! I can’t wait to go back for some more truffle deviled eggs. For $ 9 you get 4 halves, and there’s just the right amount of truffle flavor to make them decadent, not overpowering. We also tried the mac and cheese, super rich and flavorful and it was perfect when the creamy cheese was cut with a bite of their somewhat spicy special of the night Pork Verde over Polenta. The two dishes together were great, but the mac and cheese by itself may be overwhelmingly rich for some, I’m glad I could mix it a little with the Verde sauce, or maybe ask for some Tabasco, that might be good. The mac and cheese was also small so if you’re having it for dinner, get another plate for an app. I’ve gotten the poutine and fish and chips in the past but neither were super stellar. I remember the poutine as being overly salty and the fish and chips as being ‘ok’. We ended the night with the Irish car bomb dessert which had a different booze component in each of the parts of the dessert. Guinness gelato, whiskey caramel, bailey’s brownie(?), and a whipped crème. I’m all about boozy desserts(check out my ode to Pig and the Lady) but this dessert didn’t gel so well. I think it was the amount of booze/flavor of the brownie, it was a little overwhelming. Also, the size of the dessert was pretty tiny, definitely not one to share. I want to try another dessert of theirs to see if they do better… the beer-a-misu looked interesting. I’m going to have to stop by for happy hour(even on Saturdays) so I don’t start spending all my money here. This is a great neighborhood spot and I look forward to hanging out there for a game or trivia night in the future!

I am so glad that Hawaii is finally jumping on the bang wagon ad that places like Brew’d(that serve a wide variety of great tasting beer and have a small menu of delicious food) are popping up in Oahu’s neighborhoods. It’s a casual and laid back spot for a day after work or a friday night date. The wide variety of beer on tap is great because they have something for just about everyone. Our waitress was awesome and even let us sample the beer(for free) before pouring us a full glass. As a person who likes to try new beers, this was especially helpful. You also have the option of trying a flight of four different beers which is always something new, and fun to try. As for food, I’d say that it matches the casual and laid back environment. You won’t see a million items on the menu, but rather simpler dishes that are just made perfect! Try the pulled pork sliders, bacon mac and cheese, or fish and chips and you won’t be disappointed.

We will not be returning to this place! The food was NOT stellar! Our plates were completely full when we asked for the check and our server was NOT observant enough to notice that we barely picked at it. Being in the service industry we were disappointed with the lack of customer service and inability to recognize customer dissatisfaction. Our tab was $ 56.00 and we still decided to go to a different establishment that we could rely on for good service and EXCELLENT food! This was our first and definitely our last time dining at this establishment!

My wife and I have been here once, on a weekend evening. We sat at the bar, and ordered drinks and a hummus plate. As we surveyed the place, it was a cool environment with helpful staff and a good attitude. We joked about coming back before we finished our first drink. Once the hummus plate arrived, it consisted of a very small glass jar filled with hummus, a dozen wheat crackers surrounding on a plate. We had a good laugh because we’ve tried hummus all over the world, and the wheat cracker and tiny glass jar were very different in comparison. We also couldn’t finish the hummus with the allotted crackers due to the size jar. So in the end it was 11 bucks, which we paid and left with saying anything. Luckily, I don’t think hummus is on their current menu. Lol We may go back again if the menu works for a vegetarian, but we have out 3 or 4 favs locked in, and the hummus we buy is excellent for our specific taste.

I’ve been hearing about this place by a few people and finally stopped in for some casual drinks and a few nibbles! Started with a flight and got to choose 4 beers of the menu and really loved #13. And ordered a couple rounds. Then the humus with homemade chips was a great choice. Brussels sprouts with great seasoning and complimentary to drinking beers!

This was a really good place. The tap list was impressive. I don’t know why it’s more impressive that it’s got such a good tap list while it’s in Hawaii, but it is. Prices were really reasonable all things considered. The place also has that intangible feel that it’s just so hard to pinpoint. The lighting was the right sort of dim. It was narrow and a bit cramped, but in the cozy way that makes it feel intimate rather than in an obnoxious, college bar way. But back to that beer list. It’s not every day you find a bar with Sam Adams Utopias on the menu. And while it was heavy on west coast beers, there were also gems from Colorado, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Maryland while we were there, along with a host of German and Belgian beers. The type of place where you know that the selection is constantly in flux, in the good way. Parking in the area seemed relatively painless, but I’m not certain because we weren’t driving ourselves so I wasn’t paying much attention. If you’re a craft beer junkie, this is a required stop.

BREW’d has a sign in their establishment that reads«NO UnilocalING!» but I’m being a rebel and doing it anyway. This craft brewpub has an impressive tap list of local and no so local beers, and an even longer bottle list. We were lucky enough to enjoy Sam Adams Utopia 2015 beer as well(it was not cheap). Come here for rare finds, or just to hang out. It is pretty small, but they have an outdoor waiting area where you can enjoy a drink while you wait as well. We didn’t have any of the food on my visit, so no comments there. We aren’t locals, but if we were, this is where we would hang out.

I guess the customer is not always right! Despite the delicious cocktails and cheese curds, we left with a sour taste in our mouths. Even though they were out of the Kentucky sour, sigh. Our server gave mixed signals, to say the least. He offered our table a round of shots, but then proceeded to charge us for them. Hmmmmm… One of our fearless friends asked him about the bill. Then things got awkward. We apologized profusely, but he insisted on maintaining the awkward vibe. Don’t know if we’ll be back. Food was ok. Perhaps your wallets and vibe will fair better across the street instead my friends…

Ahhh, BREW’d. I’m much happier having moved into my new Makiki apartment, but boy… I sure do miss Kaimuki, and this is one of the gems! I’ve introduced countless friends here to the relaxed, intimate atmosphere(nice lighting, smaller but makes it easier to hear), amazing selection of beer(seriously, AMAZING. Various types and unique flavors), and fun menu of fancy bar food(oxymoron, maybe. But it’s perfect to pair with a great craft beer). Whether it’s a nightcap or an early meeting before dinner(since they open at 4), BREW’d has always come through. I suppose I could just go to REAL over here on Ward, since they’re owned by the same people. But fun bike rides just down the street to my house after a night of drinking, laughing, fire-pickles, and other shenanigans will be very much missed. I heart BREW’d!

Ok so I was on mission to eat the best fish and chips. After reading Kelli’s review supposedly brewd had it. The location is a bit far from where I reside. That’s ok it gives me an excuse to walk down to via gelato and check out their flavors of the day. The pub opens at 4pm everyday except Sunday’s. I ended up here on a Friday afternoon around 4:30pm with Nadine:). The place was already bustling with customers drinking and eating. The drink menu was extensive with beers from all over the world. I knew what I wanted and told our sweet waitress one order of fish and chips. The local fish today as it does change daily was hebi. I have never had that before, so I prayed that I would love it lol. I can’t not love this fish with all these high expectations… Then it finally came out. Three fat pieces of fish battered on a bed of fries with tartar sauce. I couldn’t wait I had to take a bite. It was extremely hot and almost burnt my mouth. I was just too excited to care. Then there it was. The soft, hot, thick, moist, glistening hebi entered my mouth. And yes it was delicious. The con would be that the batter was breaking off my hebi. It was way too thick. But, this fish and chips is up there next to the halibut I had in anchorage. :) I will be back to see what the next fish they will fry up… Great service, ambience and company!!!

Before you come there is parking in the back with quite a few stalls open if not then there is always street parking. Pretty trendy little spot with plenty of different beers to choose from(on and off draft!) I love Sam Adams since it’s a delicious American beer you can never go wrong with funny thing is I don’t remember if I drank any there. All of those other beers just confuse the heck out of me but I’m always down to try it. I had what was recommended by our server 3 of the ones on the board with numbers on it(Sorry don’t remember much since there was a lot of alcohol). One thing for sure is the bacon fat fries and the bone marrow burger, two things that will satisfy any non-vegan carnivore. Sorry not vegan/vegetarian friendly peeps. Food is a bit on the pricey side for the amount they give so if I were you just keep on ordering bacon fat fries and other pupus to share. Great place to drink since beer is cheaper than the food. Go during happy hour it’ll do less damage on your wallet/purse/or both.

5 stars for service, 4 stars for trivia night and their beer selection, 3 stars for their food. My bf, friends and I came here on a Monday night knowing they had trivia night. What we didn’t know, however, was that we had to make a reservation in order to get a spot. We took our chances and lingered in hopes of taking the spot of a no-show. We all grabbed a drink from their diverse menu as we waited. What really stood out was the service we received throughout the whole process. One of the servers working that night did an awesome job of giving us a periodic status update on whether we’d be able to get a seat. In the end, we really lucked out and managed to snag a table. It turned out to be an awesome night of trivia. The food on the other hand was really average. We ordered some fish tacos and mac ‘n cheese to share. The dishes were small, lacked flavor and overly priced. We’d definitely go back for the service, drinks and trivia though!

BREW’d Craft Pub has to have one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. Good quality AND good price! A friend and I went for dinner around 7 p.m. one weeknight, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that the eatery was relatively empty. It was really loud on the inside and not that many people were in the restaurant when we were there. However, the quality of food and the great service we had made up for the super loud atmosphere. Our server was really helpful in making recommendations and answering all of my questions. He also was great in keeping my water glass constantly refilled during the evening. I would return to BREW’d in a heartbeat because that fish and chips really left an impression on me. Here’s what we got: «Fish and Chips»: This is one of the best fish and chips I’ve had on the island because the fish is fresh(features the local catch of the day, which changes frequently), the portion size is decent, the fries are tasty and the price is reasonable($ 11 – 12). This entrée features local island fish(no frozen stuff) that’s beer battered to a delectable crisp, tartar sauce and fries. The fish that was featured during the time of my visit was some sort of local marlin. I loved the soft, fresh fish interior, as well as the batter, which was perfectly fried to a golden brown. It had just enough crunch to it, without being too hard and overly crispy. The fish came out steaming hot(temperature wise), so I had to cut each one open and let it cool for a bit before eating it. I was also pleased because I felt I got my money’s worth with this entrée — the three pieces of fish were hefty in size, and I felt like the ratio of fish to fries was proportional. I would highly recommend this if you’ve never been to BREW’d before. I know it’ll be my go-to thing! «Mac and Cheese Bowl»: This mac and cheese is unique because it features a savory, creamy eight-cheese blend, Italian sausage and prosciutto. My friend ordered this as part of his dinner and he wasn’t disappointed. He said the mac and cheese was definitely cheesy and delivered in that department, but he wished there was a bit more sausage in it for some extra texture and flavor. But, he did acknowledge that the prosciutto gave it some extra flair(and it did double duty as a great garnish). «Blue Cheese Bone Marrow Burger»: The mac and cheese came in a small bowl, which was definitely not enough for my friend for dinner, so he opted for this burger, which filled him up. It consisted of local island beef, bone barrow butter, blue cheese, island greens, a tomato and fries. I love blue cheese so I’m definitely down to also order this burger one day. He got his burger sans the tomato, but he really enjoyed it. He said that it was flavorful enough and it came with the same fries as my fish and chips, so he was delighted by the taste. «Cheek Poutine»: Poutine has to be one of my weaknesses because it’s basically fries loaded with cheese and some sort of meat. I was able to find poutine at a lot of spots in So Cal, but it seems like it’s finally(slowly but surely) coming to Hawaii. I definitely want to try the version featured at BREW’d one day. This poutine includes braised beef cheeks, fries, cheese curds, beef demi and a fried egg. I’m usually not a huge fan of beef, but when it comes to poutine, I’ll make an exception. Anything for those cheese curds! I really liked the poutine at REAL, and since BREW’d is their sister restaurant, I’m really interested to compare the two. «Smoked Miso Duck Ramen»: This was one of the items featured under the food specials, and it sounded intriguing to me. Not intriguing enough to order instead of my fish and chips, but something I wouldn’t mind trying if I were in the mood to deviate from the norm. This entrée includes smoked miso, duck breast, sweet pickled shiitakes, mung bean sprouts and onions. I would probably order my ramen sans the onions and bean sprouts, but I’m interested to try the medley of all of the other ingredients. I really do like the strong flavor of miso and I don’t get duck that often, so I can’t wait to try this combo one day.

I’m definitely not a beer fan but the hubs loves craft beers, and IPAs in particular, so with his well-being in mind we headed over to Kaimuki. It was a Wednesday night so we lucked out and had many more food choices than usual because of their ‘Wednesday Night Blue Plate Special’. The Mac and Cheese was yummy and had a nice sharp white cheese taste. It’s not a huge portion so you could definitely order another item to go with it. I had the Thai Satay and it was really delicious with sesame seeds sprinkled on it. Hubs had his Terminal Gravity IPA and I drank OJ which our server incredulously asked me «Without Vodka?!». Yes just OJ thank you. BREW’D is a fun, energetic, and loud spot so don’t go there expecting a romantic atmosphere.

Unilocal 365 Challenge 2015 #39/365 BREW’d is basically the same as REAL… because it’s like REAL’s baby! This place adds a dimension of nightlife to Kaimuki that it lacks very badly. However, I feel like when I think of Kaimuki, I don’t think of bars or clubs, but I think more of breakfast, brunch, and lunch spots. Maybe with some dinner spots. Idk, maybe that’s just me, but I feel like BREW’d is a little out of place here. Don’t get me wrong, I like BREW’d, I like how many different beers they offer, along with beer cocktails, and the various pub foods that they serve, but there are other things about it that I can nitpick at. First of all, the parking. The parking SUCKS. They have a lot behind, but it looks like you have to pay. If that’s not your cup of tea(it ain’t mine), then street parking is your next option. You really have to get lucky in Kamiuki with street parking, because it’s not only for people who are parking for other businesses, but it’s for people who live around the area, so their cars are probably gonna be there all night. Second, it’s a little small for my taste, even smaller than REAL. The bar is longer than REAL, but the seating seems very tight and awkward. There’s three tables with high top stools near the front door, and in the corner there’s a counter with two chairs, basically being blocked in by the table behind them. Who would wanna sit there? lol. Apparently you can make reservations now, but that’s only between 4 – 6:30pm, before it gets too busy in there. It seems like this review is mostly negative, but I don’t mean it to be. That’s just me being nitpicky about a couple of things. I do like BREW’d a lot, but I just feel like it doesn’t belong in Kaimuki. They should move into Salt’s old spot!

The following items are delicious: pork belly taco, chicken pot pie, short rib poutine, and the current poke(forget the name). I also heard the bacon cheesecake is good from the two tables next to me. The following items have not been on the menu lately, but if they pop back up, try these: porchetta sandwich, and hummus(southwestern). Goat cheese beet hummus and green eggs and ham are interesting items on the menu now. They are okay but not my favorite. Service was great as usual. Kudos to people like Adam, Rachel, and Nate for making this place even greater than it already is.

Come for the beer, not the food… I personally don’t really drink beer but a good friend of mine wanted to have some beers so I sucked it up and went along with it. Believe it or not, there are some alcoholic beverages that I don’t really care for. Beer is one of them. The beers were surprisingly good and full of flavors. If I come back, it’ll be for the beers and not to eat. This place is conveniently located in Kaimuki off of Waialae Ave. Parking is mainly metered parking or residential street parking. We got very lucky and got a stall right in front of the pub. When you walk in, you can choose to sit at a table on the left of the pub or sit at the bar on the right. We chose to sit at the bar because they were playing the game on the TV. I thought it would be a dive bar but it’s very clean and upscale looking for a pub. Bartender was very friendly and checked on us frequently. He had a good knowledge of the beers and menu items. The items we ordered were: Green Eggs and Ham — Even though it had some bacon, the flavor didn’t really come through. It’s a very creative dish and presentation wasn’t bad. Overall this was about average(2.5 stars). Pork Belly Taco — Pork belly is always good and it wasn’t bad here. The flavors were average and the sauce wasn’t that great which made the dish a disappointment(2.5 stars) Home-Made Chicken Pot Pie — The dough on top was good and you could taste the butter which gave it a little bit of flavor. Filling was a little dry and bland. I would not order this again(2 stars). Shrimp and Grits — This dish had flavor to it and presentation was spot on. Too bad the shrimp was not peeled. It would have been better if it was peeled with just the head on it(2.5 stars). Beers — I don’t remember the names of the beers we ordered but they were all very flavorful. It was a pleasant surprise especially with the food being just meh. It was great that they had beers with higher alcohol content and in all different flavors. Overall it was an average experience here. If you like or love beer then this is a place you should check out when you’re in Kaimuki. It has fair pricing for good quality beers. Cheers!
