Mmmmm… crab. We decided to come here on a Saturday night because Raging Crab(which I have not been to either) had a crazy long wait. We walked up expecting to see tons of people waiting, or at the very least, a restaurant full of people. Nope. The restaurant was empty with the exception of 2 other parties. I immediately thought that this was a bad sign, even though I’ve read mostly good reviews and have had friends recommend it. Anyway, we decided to stay, and I’m glad we did. We got the combo #2, cajun, medium. I was quite impressed with the flavor and quantity of food. I’ve had my share of seafood prepared this way on the East Coast, and I can say that this was a pretty good deal! My BF had never had seafood like this before, and he looked so happy the whole time! I would definitely go back. as the food was good, service great, and overall ambiance good as well. The only thing that was a no-no, and thank goodness I didn’t see it until after I was done eating… there was a big, dead roach in the bathroom :(

After watching Anthony Bourdain eating Cajun food in Louisiana, I had this strong urge and craving to eat boiled crabs. I dragged my bf down to Crab City on a Sunday night. Although the atmosphere isn’t exactly inviting I was just glad that it wasn’t crowded cause I came hungry! They sat us right away and we decided on the Crab City combo #2(Dungeness crab, crawfish, mussel, shrimp & clams) in Cajun style. We also ordered a side of rice and potatoes thinking that it didn’t come with it inside the bags but they do put 2 boiled potatoes in there! Wish they would of told us that! It also comes with 2 corns and sausages. Our bag was filled with a good amount of each seafood. Only thing I wish they would of put less of is crawfish. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about crawfish that I just can’t bring myself to eat… Anyway, the seafood was full of flavor and spices. It was pretty salty but addicting like crack. I was in crab heaven and pretty damn satisfied :) Crab City bitch, Crab Crab City Bitch… yeah that was literally stuck in my head all night!

I’m glad I had waited a while after they first opened to try them out. Some of the earlier reviews on Unilocal had me worried since a lot of them mentioned terrible service. After the reviews started becoming more positive I felt like it was safe to check them out, and it sure was! Of the four seafood boil places, Raging Crab, Kickin Kajun, Crab City and Karai Crab, I would have to rank Crab City my favorite overall so far. Crab City is very conveniently(for me) located in Kaimuki, on Waialae and 9th(across from Town). There are a bunch of parking spaces behind the restaurant(enter from 9th), and there’s a lot of street parking possibly available along Waialae, and on the side streets. I came here one night with Chris and Krystal L. and we were greeted promptly when we entered, and shown to our seats. There were a bunch of empty tables, probably because we went in there after 8:00 pm, just after dinner peak time. One of the things we noticed as we sat and looked over the menus was that this is a BYOB place. Deals! We ordered our food, and I ran over to Tamura’s across the street to pick up some fancy beer. By the time I got back our bags of seafoody goodness. The flavors of the sauces were delicious. We had the lemon garlic butter, and the cajun sauces. Each was perfect with the seafood, and eventually we tried to mix the two together, and that made them even better! The downsides to this place are that they ration out your paper towels. Unlike other places they don’t leave the whole roll at your table. They just leave a few of them with you, and you have to ask for more. Like most other places everything is disposable. paper table cover, plastic bags, paper towel, styrofoam cups, etc., so in the end it’s a very un-green meal. The last negative is that they only have one shared single bathroom. Not so convenient when it’s busy. You’d have to wait for the bathroom to free up if you want to just wash the seafood juices off your hands. Can’t wait to go back!

Came here to celebrate my birthday w/some colleagues. In order to beat the dinner crowd we came here at about 5pm and we were immediately seated. However, there were 3 of us and were advised they only had ONE bib left. I mean, we’re supposed to be eating a seafood boil with our hands. What’s with that??? We ordered 2 combos(1 lobster and 1 dungeness crab) as well as a side order of sweet potato fries. Compared with the crab boil places I ate in Southern California, this place is so-so. In flavor(spice) it was edible but I did enjoy the garlic. The seafood was slightly under-cooked because when I dismembered the crab head, the tamale(brains) were still very runny. I didn’t have the courage to send it back as I enjoy eating the head… The sweet potato fries were okay — nothing special. The restaurant started to get packed as time went by so with our soft drink refills, we had to hunt down the waitress 2x. Overall, the food was marginal and service was decent. I am comparing this place with my delightful experiences eating at The Boiling Crab in Garden Grove, CA. Perhaps this place needs to take a few pointers to make this establishment better. Before leaving they gave us a 15% off coupon to come back again but don’t think I will. The prices are on the high side and the food and service both did NOT justify the price tag.

With a handful of seafood boil places on this island, it’s hard to choose which one to go to. Each spot has a strong point and with Crab City, their strong points are both in value and richness. Opened in Kaimuki not too long ago, Crab City cashes into the new trend of seafood boil places. It’s located in the corner of Waialae Avenue and 9th. Avenue. Abundant parking in the rear and there’s normally street parking along Waialae. The other half and I love their garlic butter sauce. You can definitely taste garlic and butter in it. It is very rich. One tip I would recommend is to order rice because there is no better compliment to leftover sauce than with rice The value portion of what I love about them is that their combo is actually pretty well priced. It doesn’t feel like they skimped out on anything. Service here is fast, friendly, and attentive. They also give you lemon pepper without asking and lemons aren’t cheap nowdays!

This is my favorite place to get crabs, for now. As some of you already know, my wife and I are crustacean lovers. We found this place after having lunch at JJ French Pastry which is LOCATED on Waialae ave. Found out that day Crab City wasn’t even open for business yet. However, they did tell us when their soft opening was. As soon as that day came we rushed back to try them out. Food Ordered Snow Crab with Volcanic Cajun Sauce — This was my favorite shellfish bag as it comes in a bag like their competition. The crab was cooked perfectly which gave the meat the right texture. Dipping the crab meat into the volcanic Cajun sauce was heaven to me. I will also go as far to say this is the best crab among the other crustacean restaurants on Oahu thus far. Crawfish with lemon garlic butter — I love crawfish. I fell in love with it ever since I first tried it 10 years ago in Louisiana. The crawfish here is a hit or miss. It was good the first time we came, bad the second and my wife brought some home after going back with her friends and it turned out to be good again. Go figure. Shrimp with lemon garlic butter — I like shrimp but its the least favorite. It tasted alright here but I think it would have been better with the Cajun sauce. It was still cooked perfectly though. The ENVIRONMENT was nice. They have an oyster bar, plenty of seating and even a private room. The private room looks like it holds around 10 — 15 people. This place also has a ton of TV’s. Great for sport fans. The PARKING is located in the back and can be a problem. The second time we came was on a Saturday evening and we had to park on the street. We also had to wait for about 30 minutes to get a table on our second time there. The wait actually allowed us to try«Leahi Health Beverages» which was really good. Something you should check out. The SERVICE was great the first time(Not Busy) and okay the second time(Super Busy). We had the whole staff waiting on us the first time but the second time we barley had one. However, the server who waited on us the second time remembered us from the first time. That’s a plus in my book. However, the food did come out decently quick the second time considering how busy they were. But they lacked tools on the second time. Overall, I am giving this place 4 stars because I am still a fan and would come back again.

Of all the new crab bakes that have been popping up lately, this is my favorite. Why you ask? 3 simple things: 1. Taste. The sauces and dips they offer are very flavorful. I found that it had more flavor than the other guys. 2. Size. No size doesn’t always matter… but in this case I have to say the size of the crawfish, the shrimps and the crabs were larger than the other guys. 3. Value. All of these crab bake eateries can add up but for what you pay I thought this was worth the money. 2 people can easily share a combo and get full from it. The only problems I see with this place is that parking is limited. There’s a small lot in the back and street parking. Along with parking, they do not take reservations which means you could end up waiting anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour based on how large your party is. So my advice to you is either go at lunchtime or immediately head down after your 9 – 5 job is done.

After weeks and weeks of begging him to take me here, I finally got my wish last Sunday after a nice long day at Sandy’s beach. Got here around 7pm and the wait wasn’t to bad, in fact only three people ahead of us. It’s located right on Waialae with parking right in front or street parking all around. The place is fairly big, and the ambiance is very old wooden seafood feel. Tons of nets, fake crabs, pictures, flat screen TVs all around and real oysters in the tank in the front. Service is okay, they took awhile getting our limes, water and food out. But the food is awesome! I’ve tried Kickin Kajun and that place is a lot smaller with more butter in the sauce. Unlike, KK Crab city isn’t to saucy but it’s a lot more pasty but with more flavor and you get tons of garlic. The 1lb shrimp I got were huge shrimps and they were cooked and seasoned perfectly! He got the 1lb crab and although he said it wasn’t a lot of crab, the taste and quality was excellent and better than the other guys. We also got a side of Cajun wings and fried(the fries was included) the fries were actually pretty yummy and they give a lot of fries and chicken wings for only $ 10. Prices are right, food is good, and wait isn’t to bad and the best part of all was it didn’t give me that greasy, gross and«I need to go run laps» feelings after I was done eating.

Come here before 6. We sat down at 530 and there were maybe 4 other open tables. We left at 645ish and there were maybe 25 people waiting for tables. So we ordered combo #2 which has dungeness crab, clams, oysters, shrimp, and couple pieces of corn, sausage and potato for $ 48. Our server said that it was a 2 lb crab with a pound of the clams, pound of oysters, and a pound of shrimp. Okay, so I know my math may be a little rusty but 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 6 pounds and that doesnt include to 3 small corns 3 small potatoes and 4 pieces of sausage. So this bag should be well over 10 pounds with sauce. I DON’T THINKITEVENCAMECLOSE… We had 5 clams. Last time i checked 5 clams doesn’t weigh 1 pound. I don’t even wanna get started about the other items. You can choose your sauce and how spicy you like it and there are some other items. We grabbed some cajun fries and mehhhhhhh. I mean if you like ore ida frozen fries with cajun spices then this might be your thing. But i would much rather have fresh cut fries than those frozen soggy excuse they call fries here. The service is terrible. You literally have to flag people down. And heaven forbid when this place is packed, all you hear is «where is my food?» «oh we are sorry the kitchen is behind» «thank you for waiting» you would think that a place that has a nice long line would produce food quickly and turn tables over fast to keep the business. As for me I don’t see a return in my near future. I’m glad the messy seafood craze is catching on here but I rather just buy my own seafood, make a much more awesome sauce, and feast at home… Also, the parking is kinda hard with a small lot and limited street parking. If you don’t find a stall, you are probably better off going somewhere else. Crab city chick crab crab city chick. Throwin’ crab legs crab legs.

The lowdown: The food is really, really good here but it takes a very long time to arrive. You should get there long before you actually get hungry. By the time your food arrives, you will be starving! This place deserves 5 stars for value and flavor but I had to dock a star because my boyfriend’s fried catfish took over an hour to arrive and his clam chowder, after much prodding, arrived an hour and a half after we sat down. I think if he were rating it, he’d rate it much lower. My food, on the other hand, started appearing after 45 minutes. I was super impressed by the quantity and value of my meal. My pound of shrimp with lemon garlic butter was only $ 9.99 and came with 13 fresh, sweet, large shrimp covered in a mound of garlicky sauce that perfectly accented them. The only thing lacking was the spice. I had ordered it volcanic, but it was mild. They must have forgotten to make it spicy. After I’d finally finished painstakingly peeling and eating each shrimp(they’re so hot when they arrive they burn your fingers) my snow crab legs with cajun butter arrived. I had originally ordered blue crab, but my server came back and told me they hadn’t been delivered yet. I think market price was $ 15.99 for the snow crab. Again, the sauce was delicious but not at all spicy. Did they forget or do they just make everything mild? I didn’t mind, though, because my crab was great. Usually, snow crab is either watery and flavorless or too salty. This crab tasted sweet and fresh and the cajun sauce was garlicky and complemented the crab without being overwhelming. After my crab arrived, I asked the server to please check on my boyfriend’s food. How long does fried catfish and chowder take? A long time at this place. The catfish arrived ten minutes after I asked, then I had to ask about the chowder, which arrived as I was finishing my generous bag of crab legs. Skip the chowder – it’s the kind your Asian grandma makes – thin and watery. It made me sad for my boyfriend. .. but not sad enough to share my delicious crab legs. I’m definitely coming back to use my 15% discount card that they gave to me. All in all, it turned out to be a great meal, even for my boyfriend. He realized that with the delay in receiving his food, it gave his super duper slow-eating girlfriend a big enough head start that we actually finished eating at the same time – a momentous first!

After taking a hiatus from Kickin Kajun, HC and I decided to try Crab City after seeing ads for it and reading about it in last Sunday’s Dining Out. We arrived on Saturday afternoon at about 3:30 and were seated immediately. We must have looked like«regulars» because we weren’t given the spiel about how to order. Didn’t mind that though since we were familiar with how things worked. The waitress was very nice and we didn’t really encounter any problem until the end(will get to that in a bit). We ordered a combo 3 with medium-level garlic butter sauce and an order of fried oysters. We were given our bibs, gloves, scissors, and crackers shortly after we ordered. Food came out quick as well. We dug in to the fried oysters and fries first. Loved the breading and taste of the fries! I. could have just eaten that alone and been content. HC cut open the bag and the smell of the sauce was awesome! I couldn’t wait to dig in! HC made a comment that he liked the crab at KK better since the meat didn’t seem to slip out easily. However, he ate a lot more crawfish here than at KK and said he liked the seasonings and sauce better here. Now, as I mentioned before, we hit a slight snag in the service as we were waiting for our bill. There was a huge party and a bunch of new customers coming in, so it was as though we were forgotten. None of the servers even made eye contact with us, so HC had to flag someone down. Then our bill went to the wrong table! We ended up getting 15% off, so that was good. Other than that incident, we really enjoyed ourselves. We plan on coming again in the future. Hope we don’t hit the same snag again.

Everyone on in our party ordered 1lb of King Crab with mild garlic butter. First off I didnt like the crushed or pureed garlic in the butter. It made the butter too garlic spicy. The sauce was also way too salty, almost to the point it was inedible. Coupled with the fact the quality of the crab was bad, with soft shells and small meat. It wasnt a good good dining experience. Service was good except for the fact they didnt bring out the crackers and scissors when they brought the food. This place came crowded within a matter of minutes. We arrived at 530p with a few table occupied by 600pm the place was full. I think Ill drive the extra 10 min to go to Raging.

Crab City b****, Crab crab city b****. I heard someone singing that at the next table while I was eating with my family. lol… So if you read my kickin kajun review, you’ll know that I love Boiling Crab, so of course I’m going to compare my experience at Crab City to my fav boiling crab. 1) I got to crab city at about 5:30. There were plenty of tables open and abs no line. Definitely off to a good start. 2) the waitresses were hit or miss. Some were nice, others were a little arrogant. The entire dining room is a little disorganized. I think 5 – 6 different people helped us… always after we had to flag them down. MEH. 3) We ordered 3 different types of seafood, and they all came out at different times. The shrimp came out an hour after we ordered… pretty unacceptable. Crab city is offering 10% off due to their recent opening, and they give a 15% off loyalty card when you pay. I’ll be back for the food, as I thought it was a bit better than kickin kajun. The discount really helps too. lol.

I’ll keep it short and sweet to my recommendations since there are a lot of other reviews with detailed information on the menu. — Oysters: Served with ponzu(shoyu-citrus sauce), grated daikon(the«spicy» orangey version I have no idea what they color with), and green onions. These buggers were served FRESH and raw. I normally despise oysters, but I actually say these are a must when you come here! — Shrimp: Served with the head-on, I liked these best with the Cajun Sauce. — Lobster: This sucker was HUGE. Slightly chewy, but still sweet. Best with lemon-butter sauce. — Catfish: I’ve had better in Vegas, but my friends seemed to really enjoy it. All in all we got a dozen oysters, lobster, shrimp, snow crab, bread(x4), corn, potatoes, and fried catfish and it came out to $ 25/person WITH tip. It was a GREAT meal, especially for that price! Go now while its still BYOB!

I want to rate Crab City 3.5. We were seated after about 30 minutes. It didn’t seem like a long time because we went to Tamura’s up the street to buy some alcohol and the manager allowed us to drink while we waited. They also gave us a bucket of iced when we asked for our beer. The food didn’t take long to come either, and they gave us bibs. We ordered 1 lobster, 1 snow crab, 1 shrimp, 1 catfish, and 1 dozen oysters. It came out to $ 25/person including tip with a 10% discount. It was BYOB, so the price didn’t include alcohol. Taste wise, I liked the oysters best — everything was average tasting. Choice of sauce if I were to go again, I’d pick lemon garlic butter. There was only one bathroom, and everyone was using it to wash their hands. They didn’t give us anything to wipe our hands with, despite the fact that you use your fingers as utensils. They should have some kind of community wash station like at some stadiums. Our server kept yelling across the restaurant. We were sitting next to the register, so it was about orders and receipts for xx table(s). Quite annoying and disruptive in the already too noisy restaurant. 3.5-stars because it lacked ambiance, although expected. Also, the single bathroom was not appreciated. However, I would visit again.

Crab City B!+c#, Crab, Crab, City, B!+c#. Crab City B!+c#, Crab, Crab, City, B!+c#! Seafood-boil-type restaurants finally made their debut in Hawaii with the introduction of Kickin’ Kajun earlier this year. Since then, there have been two more seafood boil restaurants that have popped up, including Crab City. These kinds of restaurants have been popular on the mainland for quite some time, so I’m glad they finally made it here. For those unfamiliar with what seafood or crab boil is, it’s basically a social celebration and showcase of Cajun flavors and seafood /shellfish. Shellfish like crab, crawfish, and lobster are traditionally eaten without tools and shell-crackers.(That’s why they give gloves and a bib!) It’s supposed to be all hand and mouth action! Suck those babies dry! Here’s how the Seafood Boil works: [1] CHOOSEYERSEAFOOD&SIDES Combos — The combos, to me, are the best deals: — #1: Lobster, Crawfish, Mussel, Shrimp, Clam $ 48 — #2: Dungeness Crab, Crawfish, Mussel, Shrimp, Clam $ 48 — #3: Snow Crab, Crawfish, Mussel, Shrimp, Clam $ 38 **No substitutions for combos, but there are a few pieces of sausage and corn included in each. Sides — At Crab City, they’ve got a bunch of different sides. They even have edamame! — Corn: The corn was a major hit with our group. They’re $ 0.75 each… and we ordered about 30. — Clam Chowder($ 3.50) — I haven’t tried it yet, but I will on my next visit! [2] CHOOSEYERSAUCE&LEVELOFSPICE — Sauce options: Lemon garlic butter, Cajun style, or garlic butter — Spice options: mild, medium, or volcanic I liked the lemon garlic butter with extra garlic. I also ordered a side of Cajun-style sauce for dipping! [3] BIB /GLOVE UPANDCHOWDOWN!!! The shellfish and sides like corn and sausage come out steaming-hot in a plastic bag with the boil-sauce. It’s up to you on how you want to eat… Some people go with the«no glove, no love,» but I don’t. Yeah, I don’t like eating with my hands… but I use chopsticks. And yes, I wear the bib. OYSTERBAR ½ dozen for $ 15; 1 dozen for $ 28 In addition to the bagged & buttery seafood and the oyster bar, Crab City has fried stuff too: CRABCITYHOTWINGS $ 8.99 Not very hot, but I like chicken wings. I found myself soaking them in the extra bowl of Cajun sauce that I ordered. SALT&PEPPERCALAMARI $ 10.99 It was okay, but nothing to write home about. The portion size was pretty sad, but at least it came with Cajun Fries! And I’m also glad we were given extra containers of salt and pepper. *The fried items(and even the ones I didn’t list), come with Cajun fries. I ended up immersing the fries in the bowl of extra Cajun sauce! YUM. Our party of 6 heavy eaters got two #1s and one #2, one order of King Crab, one Lobster, Salt & Pepper Calamari, Hot Wings, 12 oysters, and like 30 corns. We pretty much demolished everything! VERDICT I liked the lemon garlic butter with extra garlic the best. The Cajun-style sauce was good, too. The sauces weren’t too salty like at some other similar restaurants I’ve been to, so that was good. Serice was good, prompt and friendly. I’ll definitely be back for more Crab City, B!+c#, especially since I live right around the corner! Unilocal 365 — #366/365 (Leap Year)

What’s even harder to please than a pregnant woman with cravings? A pregnant woman with cravings with Unilocal at her finger tips. This is our 3rd baby so he is familiar with late night rendezvous of green tea ice cream 2 in the morning, bouts of pancakes and saimien 9 at night, and so forth. But Unilocal has driven him here, there, and everywhere. As what my eyes see or reads up on Unilocal,it so happens the baby growing inside of me MUST have. Thanks to my Unilocaling pregnant gal Yvonne’s review and delicious pictures, I tricked my hubby on trying this newly opened restaurant. My infamous line that seals the deal, «the baby is hungry or I’m carrying your baby!.» Location It’s located next to JJ Bistro and there are several parking spots located in the back of the restaurant. Picture of the outside: Environment This establishment is bigger than Raging Crab and Kicken Cajun. There are several flat screen TVs adorn the walls and a big flat screen right next to the kitchen. Pictures of tasty shellfish are plastered sparingly on the walls. There are nets above with fake sea creatures entangled in it. The server offered to change the channel to something that we wanted to view. Food You can either order your food ala carte or combo. The market prices are posted up next to the register, but the server offered to write it down for us. My husband and I ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer. It comes with a side of fries. We upgraded to sweet potato fries for a buck more. Pictures of our appetizers: We enjoyed both items. The fries were crisp and tasty. Same consistency as Popeye’s Chicken fries. Not spicy at all. The calamari was cooked just right, the right amount of batter, and came out piping hot. Just the way I like to gobble them up. We ordered #1 cost =$ 48 You choose the flavor: * lemon garlic butter(this is what we choose) * Cajun style * Garlic butter My husband doesn’t like to eat spicy food. You choose the spice level: –mild(we choose this spice level) –medium –volcanic There was no hint of spice what so ever in our food. I believe the lemon flavor over took the garlic flavor so the flavor was okay for me. It comes with a whole lobster. 1lb of the other seafood items: clams, shrimp, mussel, and crawfish. It also came with 2 corn, a steamed potato cut in half(and 4 slices of sausages(about an inch). This combo DOESNOT come with French fries or rice. A picture of our combo: After we devoured our main course, I was still hungry so we ordered another pound of shrimp(I’m pregnant okay). This time we got the garlic butter flavor and up it up to medium spice level. A picture of our pound of shrimp: Our shrimp arrived drowning in garlic buttery goodness. Again there was no hint of spice in our shrimp. But the garlic butter flavor this time was fantastic. As I sucked out the brains of the shrimp, I couldn’t stop for a moment to hit chat or break. It was that good. SERVICE5 Stars Given the fact we were the 2nd table to be seated at the time we received phenomenal service. Customers slowly trickled in. Every server stopped by to check on us, refill our drinks, and oggole the pregnant woman stuffing her face like there’s no tomorrow. One of the chefs was nice enough to take with me. He looked like Morgan Freeman! Tips: * plan to get dirty Your food is served in a plastic bag and you eat your food on the table. They gave us scissors, a bib, chopsticks, and crab crackers. Ask for extra napkins. Wear casual clothes that you don’t mid getting dirty. *they are currently offering 10% your whole bill *you get a crab city loyalty card for 15% off good for future visits and you can use it at JJ bistro as well. *for my dessert lovers awesome dessert place next door(JJ bistro) Overall: Service was great, food is good, and I liked the environment. My husband prefers this establishment over Raging Crab. I’m surely going to take advantage of the Crab City loyalty card for sure.

ORDERED 1) SNOWCRAB 2) CRAWFISH 3) SHRIMP **SAUCESCHOSEN-LEMONGARLICBUTTER&CAJUN(they do not mix their sauces, but they will give it to you on the side) — Cajun was my fave, closest to Boiling Crab in LA.** 4) CAJUNFRIES 5) CORN 6) RICE ENVIRONMENT Located on Waialae Ave next to Town restaurant. Fisherman’s wharf setting with nets adorning the walls. 15 tables and some bar seating. Lots of TVs. Bathroom in restaurant. Private lot in the back and metered street parking. Hours 3pm-1am! SERVICE Excellent and friendly service. No passing the buck here! Every server stopped by our table to make sure we had everything we needed. They had so much staff and they were all attentive with refilling waters, to giving us extra gloves and giving us extra corn(because they made a mistake, we actually wanted plain corn for our son) I hope it stays this way!
