Cafe Grace

First time here w/​some friends. They ordered the chicken melt and a roast beef sandwhich, I had the veggie sandwhich. All were delicious, according to my friend the chicken melt was a bit too salty, but overall we were happy with the quality of food! Only reason i give it ³⁄₅ stars is due to the service. I wanted a tuna melt but they said they were out of tuna… as I saw a woman opening a large can of tuna in the kitchen… my friend & her bf both wanted a chicken melt but they said they only had enough to make 1. The male at the register taking our order was also a bit rude, which is disappointing because typically cafes have really friendly, eager to please staff. I will give this place another try & see if the service is better so I can give it 5 stars, if not I probably will never eat here again since there are many other great cafes around the island.

I found myself near town, looking for a place to sit and work on my laptop for a bit. Unilocal brought up Café Grace and when I found that they were related to Lox of Bagel I immediately started my drive there!
Café Grace is located on Cooke street, kind of down the street from the Ferrari store. Its in the line of buildings facing the street, and its kind of down at the end (second to the corner store). Theres street parking but I believe they also have a garage (though I dont know how much for). It doesnt seem to be a very busy street, so I did find street parking easily and paid the meter (25 cents = 20 min). Since they were closing at 4p, i only put 40 minutes in.
The interior is pretty, filled with nice wooden floors and tables. Theres a corner with a couple of cushiony couches for people to just relax, while there are regular tables for others to work on. The drink menus are on the right on a couple of boards, while the food menus are up above the cashier. But dont forget to take a look at the bagel display to see what they have!
I opted for the Strawberry Bagel Puff since I had never tried it before but heard good things. And it was the last one, so I scored :) I wasn’t in the mood for coffee, so I just got a Plantation Iced Tea.
The food came out promptly, and I took a seat next to the window and began working. I would occasionally look up and admire the place :)
Overall.
The Good:
–Food: Although I only had the bagel, it was delicious. Granted, if the little Guava butter part wasnt there, I dont think it would have tasted as great since the rest of the bagel seemed to be a little hard and flavorless.
–Interior: Very clean and well kept. Its looks are really pretty as well, making it just the right amount of modern that I love about places.
–Ambiance: Pretty casual and laid back. There were people of all types there, discussing business and just having some friendly catch up talk. Nothing too disruptive that would prevent people from studying.
The Bleh:
–Service: Was okay. The workers didnt look very happy and not a smile was cracked. I dont know if I just caught them at a weird time since they were going to close a couple of hours later, but meh.
–The drink: I only had the plantation iced tea, but Ive had better.
–The hours!: Ughhhh, it really frustrates me when theres an awesome place with not so awesome hours. I guess it kind of only tailors to early birds or people who work around the area, because I wouldnt stand a chance to come here on any other day besides my days off from work :(Theyre open from 7a-​4p on most days, till 3p on Saturdays and closed on Sundays.
Ill need to come back to try the other items on the menu. I really want to try their hot menus :3

Café Grace and Lox of Bagel are owned by the same people… I have to say that Lox has wwwaaaayyyy better service!
Stopped at Café Grace for a late lunch. I’m not sure if the workers were new, or they just don’t know what the hell is going on.
Ordered our food with the cashier, she gives us a number to place on the table and we find a table to sit at.
5ish minutes later, the worker at the end of the counter is calling out drinks… I’m not paying too much attention, figured we have a number, they will drop our order at our table… after a bit, i realize that it’s our order shes calling. I walk over to get our drinks, and return to our table.
My son cannot get his bottle of Wailua Soda open, so I return to the counter and ask for a bottle opener. The girl at the counter says, yeah, these are really hard to open (why wouldn’t she just open the bottle when it’s served?)
5 minutes later, I see the counter girl deliver drinks to another table… hhhmmm… wondering why she couldn’t deliver mine 5 minutes earlier.
We wait 15ish more minutes for our food, which they bring to the table. I then notice that my son’s bagel puff isn’t there… so I return to the counter, yet again… apparently, the bagel puffs are in a case right there in front…
this place doesn’t seem to have their act together… not wasting my time here again…

Great place for breakfast or brunch. I got the pastrami sandwich (on a bagel of course) and it was fantastic. Extremely comfortable walking distance from most places in Kaka’ako.

It’s all about comfortably for me. … don’t get me started on the food, an extention to lox of bagels not only an assortment but an array of items to choose such as salads, crème filled bagels, specialty bagel sandwiches, café beverages and soups. My usual is «toasted taro bagel with guava cream cheese and a soy Chai latte. Today I tried the chicken pot pie with kale and mushrooms. Savory creamy and delighful. The seating area is earthy and cozy, I usually take my cup of Joe’s to go but this place really gives you the «ease into the morning» type feeling. With that all you need is a good bagel, a good read and a comfy seat.

I recently came here for a breakfast meeting with a colleague that works in the building across the street — since I live in one of the nearby condos, this location was ideal for me. To be honest, before she suggested Café Grace, I had no idea it existed.
As soon as I entered, I fell in love! I am a sucker for cute neighborhood cafes (although obviously I’m not super observant when it comes to my own neighborhood), especially when they have good food/​drinks. The other things Café Grace has going for it (in my opinion) is that it brings together my love of bagels and coffee and I can walk there.
Café Grace is clean, cozy and the staff is super friendly. They are also very thorough when taking your order and repeating it back to you to confirm they have everything correct. On my first visit I just had a bagel and cream cheese while my friend had the Peanut Butter & Jam — both of which were good! The menu has some basics, but they also have other creative and healthy menu items. I liked Café Grace so much that I brought my husband that weekend for breakfast and we have since been back a few more times for both breakfast and lunch
Keep up the good work Café Grace!

This location was across from the office where I was working on the island. We ended up going twice for lunch. The café focuses on bagel sandwiches and coffee. Their bagels are absolutely delicious!
Their salads are also fantastic. I tried the asian chicken salad and was more than satisfied. Another day, I tried their veggie bagel which ended up being my favorite (although it is messy, grab napkins). I enjoyed their latte and the cute hipster type ambiance.
A perfect place for a quick, delicious lunch.

I didn’t plan on eating here until I saw the sub title «by Lox of Bagels» (my favorite bagel place!) under their Café Grace sign. I got in right after lunchtime.
The place was clean and staff was friendly. The menu is upscale from the regular bagel fare and everything sounded good, so I didn’t know what to try. Instead of rolling their eyes at my indecisiveness, they gave me a confident recommendation: the Chicken Melt with a Plantation Iced Tea.
Tasted great! Sliced chicken breast topped with lots of cheese, mushroom slices and bacon. It’s an open face sandwich which you’ll probably need a fork and knife. Highly recommended.
I also took home a day old pack of various bagel puffs. These are definitely more fancy than the plain looking ones sold out of the parent store. Can’t wait to taste it!

In updating my review since I got to try some sandwiches, I was between 3 or 4 stars, but since I love creativity and healthy options (which this place has), I bumped it to 4 stars. Service here is always friendly and since I live nearby, it’s literally only a 3 min walk. Here is everything I tried here:
BAGEL PUFFS: these are my favorite things to get here. I usually get the strawberry guava or the cinnamon sugar ones. Warming them up a little makes it more soft and chewy :)
TERI CHICKEN: I got this and was disappointed. Chicken was rubbery and my bagel was overlooked so it was hard to eat :(
SMOKED SALMON AND CREAM CHEESE: I wanted it plain with no capers or anything, and while the cream cheese and bagel was good, the amount of smoked salmon looked so dismal on my plate :(it definitely needed more smoked salmon. The salad that came with it was ok. Nothing too special and lacked dressing
EGG WHITE PESTO SANDWICH: this was actually my favorite so far. The pesto was not too overpowering and the ingredients go perfectly with the everything bagel which was toasted nicely.
Coming here, I’d definitely stick to their bagel dishes and/​or teas and coffees. And of course their bagel buff which I believe is 1.95 each (a little pricey compared to a regular bagel and cream cheese (which would run about $ 3). But the puffs are definitely creative and cute looking :)
Ps: they have a stamp card that results in a free sandwich when it’s filled out

Bagel sandwich! I had lunch with a friend I haven’t seen for a long time. This was a nice and decent place to eat and talk. We walked inside and ordered at the counter. Then got a number and sat down until our food came.
I ordered the spicy salmon, spinach bagel sandwich that came with a side of quinoa. I love love the food! The salmon was a little bit spicy but the taste was delicious! The bagel was crispy but not burnt. The quinoa tasted great. I never get to eat quinoa much, but they made it perfectly yummy. I don’t know exactly what it’s mixed with.
I love the food here but it’s kinda pricey. It was around $ 11 for a sandwich and a scoop of quinoa. It was a good first experience though.
We went on Veteran’s Day, parking was free. Not too sure what other days will cost.

FOOD & DRINKS
Okay, I’ve only had the coffee and bagel puffs, but both are very very good.
The coffee drinks are strong and flavorful. I only need a small to get buzzed up and ready for my day
The bagel puffs are ridiculous. How do these not exist in every café? How has Starbucks not ripped off the bagel puff? I am a fan. The bagels are soft and chewy and tasty and then you get to the gooey center. I’m a sweets in the morning person, and these hit the spot!
They have much more food on their menu, like sandwiches and salads, that I need to try next time. But essentially they seem to have something to everyone.
SERVICE & SPACE
This is a small little café, but there always seems to be plenty of seating. I’ve never seen it super packed. There is metered parking out front, but it fills up quickly and additional spaces in Kakaako are typically hard to come by.
Service is always nice, but they seem to have a rotating crew of newer people up at the register, because they always have a hard time ringing up the order — thankfully the lady who makes the coffee drinks has a great ear, and always makes them correctly. I guess it’s a system that works for them.
PRICE
It’s fair pricing. Similar to Starbucks and most other cafes. Maybe a touch more expensive, but nothing extreme.

Café Grace is a «good feeling» café. The ambiance is nice with couches and different kinds of chairs and what not. There is a large assortment of bagels, sandwiches, salads, pizza, coffee and teas. It’s overwhelmingly awesome! I ended up getting a pasta salad. The salad was about $ 10 (pricey!) and had about 2 – 2.5 cups of pasta, 1 big romaine leaf, 3 pieces of chicken, some strips of pepperoni, cherry tomatoes, green bell peppers, and cheese… LOTS of cheese– shredded cheese and cubed cheese. It tasted okay, (tasted like cheese!) but if I ever do return here I wouldn’t get it again. It seems that the bagels are their specialty… they look so good in the other Unilocal reviews! I was unimpressed with the café mocha (I think that’s what it’s called) but then again I don’t usually get mocha, I usually drink hazelnut flavored drinks or lattes, which they didn’t have.
Overall maybe if I have to be in the area, I’ll try a bagel but otherwise I won’t really come back for coffee or salad. Btw, the service was great– they didn’t ask if I had any questions (I was obviously new, I stood there for 5 minutes deciding what to get) but was nice taking my order and giving me my food. :)

Holy smokes… So I’ve been on island 3 years and I’ve been looking for a coffee shop that I can just chill. One that reminds me of my favorite one in St. Charles and I can enjoy the music, good grinds, and good coffee. I walk in and Fast Car by Tracy Chapman is playing. I’m already a fan. It was all 90s music that reminded me of cruising in my car when I was 16. It put me that place. Memory lane… So I asked if they had a seasonal coffee. Their pumpkin spice lattes came in today. Score. It was like the coffee gods arranged my destiny today. :) They had so many choices of good bagel sandwiches like Alfredo chicken melt and curry chicken. I opted for the hot roast beef but had mine on taro. It had Swiss, mushrooms and caramelized onions. It was fantastic.
They have an array of puffs to choose from. I’ll be back to grab a pumpkin one that everyone raves about.
You can park in the Imperial Parking garage behind the restaurant and be validated for 3 hours.

Breakfast meetings are never fun. But lomi salmon? Cream cheese? Kalua pig? All on a taro bun??? Good morning sunshine, our tummies say hello!
We ordered this beautiful creation called «the taste of the islands». It was tasty and different in a good way. I will never look at bagels the same way. Did not have any regrets whatsoever and it also came with side salad. The only thing is the americano were a bit watery, so it was kind of bummer just because we really needed a caffeine fix. Other people have been saying that the coffee isn’t that great but hey at least the food is!

When I first heard of Café Grace, I was confused and thought that it was a different name for the famous Grace’s Inn. But I stand corrected, Café Grace may be relatively new (to me, at least!) but I’m so glad I tried it! We came here around lunch time on a weekday and we were lucky enouogh to get a good table for the three of us.
An order-​first-​then-​sit-​down kind of place, we spent minutes looking over their interesting menu items and browsing their bakery selection before finally being able to make a decision. I ordered their curry chicken salad and it was delish! Curry wasn’t too strong, and greens were nice and fresh. Lack of dressing made the salad a little dry, but the curry sauce made it kind of manageable. I wish I had more of a stomach to eat more, because their bagel puffs looked delish! Glasses of ice water came in these adorable mason jars with handles. Even though it’s located in a semi industrial area, the atmosphere managed to trick me into feeling like I was somewhere much more serene.
Overall, definitely worth a try. Prices are fair and service is friendly. Bathrooms are quite a walk away though!

Bagels galore! I’ve wanted to check out the bagel puffs for a while now.
Atmosphere: Very unassuming and tucked into a plaza off Kapiolani. The place is very well decorated café with plenty of comfy couches.
Service: friendly and welcoming staff. They even had cute.
Food: Excellent place for bagels. I had a bagel sandwich and bagel puffs. I had an omelette bagel sandwich on a sundried tomato bagel and the strawberry guava bagel puff. The puff has only a small amount of cream cheese.
Intangibles: Come here to try the bagel puffs!

Their bagels are wonderfully moist and dense and come in a diverse variety from simple and plain to cheese and sun-​dried tomatoes. Yum!
For lunch, they have two melts. I usually have the Alfredo Chicken Melt, and it is filling! I recommend the Lunch Combo: comes with half a melt, a salad, and soup of the day.
For drinks, their coffee is very much coffee — no sugared and creamed up nonsense. They even have the Friends-​esque set up with comfy looking couches in the front corner.
Prices kind of push it for me, but it’s a great place for a casual lunch/​brunch meal with friends. Great calming atmosphere (as you should expect from your friendly neighborhood café), friendly and quick staff.
I usually walk because I work in walking distance but there is a parking structure for the distant traveler that requires validation. Check this place out!

A few years back I was in the Sand Island Industrial area and tried the famous bagel sandwiches from «Lox of Bagels,» so when Café Grace opened near my office I was quite excited to give them a try.
Ive tried a few items that revolve around their tasty bagels. I must say, I really do enjoy the flavor and soft texture of their freshly baked bagels.
Here are my comments on a few items:
Smoked Salmon with Jalapeño Egg Salad: Did not care for the flavor of the egg salad and it did not complement the smoked salmon very well. The bagel however was excellent.
Arugula with Egg White Omelet, Mozzarella & Tomato on Pesto and Everything Bagel: This is a very tasty sandwich for breakfast. You cant go wrong with this combination of ingredients.
Curry Chicken with Arugula Bagel Sandwich: Ive had this twice. Did not like the flavor of the chicken curry the first time and it was not anything special. It could use a bit more flavor. The taste improved on my second try, but still not a fan of this one.
Alfredo Chicken Melt with Spinach, Bacon, Mushrooms and Provolone: This is an excellent creation. Its very flavorful and works perfectly on top of their bagels. Its like eating a bagel pizza!
The café also has a selection of salads, soups, desserts, espresso drinks, and other creations like french toast. It also has nice warm décor, good ambiance, and friendly staff. Ill be sure to be back for more. While I did not love a few of the sandwich items, Im giving them 4 bagels because the bagels themselves are excellent and I like the ambiance of the café.

Didn’t know what to expect but went here with a friend who wanted to check it out, I had the Pastrami on the bagel it was very tasty and the mixed greens was just perfect with it. After we had the bread pudding and that was great too, I loved the atmosphere as it was pretty cozy and the décor was really nice.
Service was great and so had to come back with my work friends that time I had the Chicken Parmesan although it was a preformed patty it was tasty and pretty good, looks like I’ll be coming back more often…

A sister store of Lox of Bagel? You best believe I’m there!
Café Grace is one of my favorite spots for breakfast or lunch. I’ve tried almost everything on their menu from bagel melts, drinks, bagel puffs and salads. I have to say, I’ve enjoyed every item I have ordered. The flavors infusion mingles perfectly. The look is very refined, being most are on. yep, bagels!
The décor is very hip with a homely vibe. Clean with a dark wood accents, VERY nice! They have couches where you can congregate with your friends over coffee and great food and enjoy the mellow atmosphere.
The employees are friendly and greet you right upon entrance. Food is prepared fresh, hot and oh so YUMMY!
