My absolutely favorite sushi place. I live on the other side of the island and I try to go once a month! So so so so so good!!!

We were greeted with: Welcome Dine in or Take out… We dined in. They sat us down and didn’t even give us menus… I had to go get one. We ordered food because there was three items on the belt… i was hoping for more choices on the belt. I’m glad they brought my kid’s food out first… ours took forever The Katsu Don That I ordered was really good, filling, and very big. The Tempura Udon comes with a basket of assorted tempura and the bowl of Udon is as well very big. Overall its just okay here.

Our mom has wanted to try Hana Sushi for a long time, so for Mother’s Day, that’s what she got. And we were also celebrating my brother’s birthday, so there was double pressure to be good. We got there when it opened, so the dishes were fresh and tasty. All of the different salmon nigiri were so ono. The ahi nigiri and sashimi — so fresh! Shrimp, edamame, crab, hamachi, as well as the ala carte items of chicken karaage, ume maki, and vegetable tempura were all so fab! The service was great, even as more customers arrived. Wish I had known prior that it was BYOB — sake or Kirin or Asahi would have been perfect for my bro. Oh well, next time. Overall, a great celebratory time was had by all. Oishiikata; doomo arigatoo!

Went tonight to grab a small platter & definitely will be back! The service from the girls were awesome. They were sweet and very helpful. The quality of the food was very good & im happy to have found this little gem in Hawaii Kai. We usually always go to genki but I really wanted to try this place & im glad we did, it was totally worth it. Definitely going to come back again for delicious food & nice workers.

So I have only been here once and had no interest in ever going back. The food was OK it wasn’t horrible but nothing over the top either. They had very little going around the belt and half of the items we ordered from the server we never got. Not sure if he forgot or they were out of something because he never said anything. Either way not planning to go back to give them another chance.

Not a fancy sushi restaurant inside and out being located at the end of an unassuming shopping center, but sushi was very good and very reasonable. We were a little too early for their«kaiten» or selection form the belt conveyor, but I especially liked their hamachi, toro, ahi, salmon and abalone salad off the menu. Unagi was just OK for me, though. I think their«tare» or sauce was too sweet. Size of «neta» or fish pieces were very good compared to rice portion. Speaking of rice, I’d like a little more vinegar with it, but that’s just my personal preference. Deep fried geso was tasty. Servers were very attentive – perhaps sometimes even on a pushy side eager to get more orders in. Green tea did not taste too good – was too weak, either they don’t use enough tea leaves or didn’t get steeped too well. The miso soup was not too good either. If you concentrate your effort eating sushi by ordering from menu, you’ll enjoy eating at Hana Sushi!

I noticed a review that mentioned food poisoning and thought I would chop in my 2 cents here, particularly since I have patronized Hana Sushi for years… back when they used to occupy a smaller location in the same shopping center. I’ve never had bad sushi from here, nor have I ever had food poisoning, not even suspected. The fish has always been fresh and nicely cut. Now, certainly, there are finer sushi establishments on island, but I have always felt that Hana Sushi delivers good sushi at a fair price. For me, this is especially true because I live in Waimanalo and it’s nice not to have to make a long trek somewhere for decent sushi. I will add that I prefer to order off the menu when I eat in, rather than take dishes off the conveyor belt, so I’ve only had made-to-order sushi here. I love the garlic salmon and spicy ahi nigiri. I usually get at least one ikura, too, and theirs is always tasty and generous. For rolls, we always get hamachi. We also like the mikko, sunset, forever, and Alaskan. Don’t let me limit you though. I don’t happen to care for unagi and fried rolls so much, but my kids say they’re all good. I’ve also ordered custom trays of various rolls for parties and they’ve always been completely wiped out.

Ok, today is 01÷19÷16 and here’s an update to my previous review. Service: I understand when there’s some people that come here and have bad service sometimes. Every time we go there we have good to exceptional service. For instance we went there tonite. Tracy and Becka were our waitresses. Becka just started, but her attentiveness and customer service skills are really good! I wouldn’t have known she was new until I asked her. Tracy on the other hand said she has been there for quite a while although we haven’t seen her before. She mentioned she works there about 6 days out of the week. Apparently we’ve just gone there when she wasn’t there… How odd. Hmmm. Tracy is amazing at remembering people and what they order… Even over the phone! We’ve seen about 3 people go in for take outs and she calls the person by their name and hands them their take out before they say anything! How is that?! Love it when you have a waitress that knows you and remembers what you order! Anyways, after we got their names we told the both of them that we are very impressed at the level of service they gave us. Go see them and I will be seriously surprised if you dislike/hate their service. Food: Good… Yes, that’s what I thought of tonight. The food was just«good», not exceptional, but good. The older guy that looks like the owner(not sure his name) doesn’t work on Tues and Thurs. I was jonzing for sushi, so we went. Usually the older guy makes the sushi look a little more presentable and appealing. Don’t get me wrong, the guys there tonight was good! We just like the presentation of the older guy. Flavor and taste was there and we like it. Some people think that all conveyor belt sushi places taste the same, but not to us. Compared to Genki and KuruKuru we would rather go to Hana. The sauces have a different flavor/taste that appeals to us. Cleanliness: The place is amazingly clean compared to some other sushi places we’ve been to. The waitresses clean up after customers almost immediately and not leave dirty plates on the counter/tables like we’ve seen other places. Behind the counter the 2 – 3 sushi makers constantly wipe down and/or wash the chopping boards and knives. Overall: Yes, we will continue to come here for our sushi fix! After nearly 6+ years coming here… Uhh Heck YEEEAAAHH! Next time we will definitely make sure to call ahead to see if Tracy and/or Becka is working.

Excellent food with the most terrible service ever. We were the only ones in the restaurant and had two servers. Never took a single plate off our table and our table was messy with empty plates and bowls. Unbelievable!!! All servers did was refill our glasses of water. No tip

Customer service 1 Speed of service 1 Quality of food 3 Presentation 3 Returning? No thanks! There were enough hosts/hostesses for the amount of people in the restaurant. This place makes conveyor sushi food joints questionable in HI. though I love the ones in CA.

A great alternative to Kulu Kulu or Genki in the East side of town. They have a conveyor belt area along with the sushi chef, but they also have separate sitting tables where you can place your own orders. The menu is very similar with the other places, but the quality is slightly better. They also have an extended menu where they serve soba, udon, and other cooked items. The restaurant capacity can fit potentially over 50 guest, and service is friendly.

My parents like to come here when they don’t feel like driving to genki sushi. The quality is pretty decent, but the portions are very small. If you were to come here, the best bet would be getting the specialty rolls(the forever roll was pretty good), or one of the donburis. My boyfriend got an unagi donburi which was $ 12.50 that he loved and was way better portion wise than everything else. When it comes to quick sushi, I think I’d prefer genki or kozo sushi.

I went to Hana for lunch. We were their first customers for the day. We were greeted by our server, but we didn’t get his name. The restaurant was cool and clean. Looked a little dated in their décor. My bf and his grandma had the cold soba with tempura, and my bf order the mini spicy tuna bowl, I ordered the Mikka sushi roll. Spicy tuna with avocado inside topped with salmon and wasabi tobiko. All components were done well. The soba was well cooked, and the sauce was tasty. The tempura was fried well and the sauce was ok(would have been better with daikon). And my roll was good, fresh fish, nice flavor combination. The mini spicy tuna was served over rice with tempura flakes, I thought that was a nice touch. Our bill was $ 45, which I think is a good price for the amount of food we got. I left full and satisfied.

Whenever I feel like eating cheap sushi, this is where I go to — Hana Sushi! Although it is a conveyor belt sushi joint, it’s actually pretty decent since there’s an actual sushi chef making your nigiri. The highlights of the day for us were the uni nigiri, spicy ahi, garlic salmon nigiri, and shrimp tempura. Due to the cheap pricing, don’t expect all their fish to be fresh. I don’t mean anything being spoiled, but certain types of fish are obviously previously frozen. The only real downside that we’ve encountered… don’t ever go when they’re 60 minutes(or less) from closing. They’ll start shutting down the a/c and you’ll be sweating like a dog.

$ 25 sashimi platter. Chef looked not enthused at all. Cut the sashimi and handed me the platter vs somebody bringing it to my table(no biggie but odd) Didn’t taste very fresh. Decided not to order anything else.

This place is so inconsistent. One day the roll you order is fresh, made the way it’s supposed to be and the next you’re eating some warm slightly off version of a roll you ordered. I’ve had great items(which kept me coming back) and I’ve had some pretty disappointing items. Needless to say I’m not really sure I’ll be back

I actually have never sat down to eat here, although I really want to sometime in the near future. I mostly just get take out from here on my way to or from work. I like that there is plenty of parking and that the restaurant is quick to make my take out orders. The waitstaff is friendly too. I’ve ordered a few of their rolls, and haven’t been too disappointed. They’ll run you $ 9-$ 11, but the fish quality is good. I used to have a favorite place like Hana when I was in college on the mainland and I would always stop by for late night pick ups of Philadelphia rolls. It became a thing and I’ve been searching for a place like it since I’ve moved back to hawaii. I thought I’d found what I was looking for at Hana sushi, but I kept ordering the Philadelphia roll and being disappointed because it had a tinge of weird taste. I eventually figured out it was because they put ranch dressing sauce or something similar on top… Weird, right? It wasn’t even regular ranch, it tasted like«light ranch»… Anyways, in the future, I will be ordering my Philadelphia rolls with no light ranch sauce lol. There always seems to be a good number of people dining in, so I might have to check out how it is dining in one of these days. The workers are fast and friendly, too. The bathrooms are shared by other establishments, outside the restaurant(past the liquor store) and its a little sketchy. Other than that, I’m a fan and I’ll be taking out from here consistently in the future.

Hana Sushi is a convenient shop to eat at and it never disappoints me. It’s also the kind of place that’s very consistent in quality, service and cleanliness. They have the honor of displaying a green, pass inspection, placard issued by the Department of Health. If I could give it 4.5 stars, I would. But since there is another Kaiten Sushi shop that I’ve rated 5.0 stars, Hana Sushi deserves 4.5 stars for smaller, still fresh, toppings on their Nigiri Sushi. The Sushi Chef makes each piece of Nigiri with a small amount of rice, making it lower in carbs and calories! So, would this qualify as «Diet Sushi?» On this visit, I opted for Tsubugai and Ika Nigiri Sushi and Tempura Zaru Soba. Tempura coating was light and crisp while the Soba noodles were al dente, just how I like them. That being said, it’s in the neighborhood where I live. Needless to say, it’s very convenient for the Hawaii Kai residents and visitors.

It was actually better quality than I had expected. The ahi sashimi was nice, firm, and free of any sinew. The kappa was fresh and flavorful. It was pretty diskettes at 2pm so I was a little skeptical. I still believe that in Hawaii Kai the best sushi is, strangely enough, is at Safeway deli. Limited as it might be in choice. It is made fresh constantly.
