Anywhere that has brown rice is a plus in my book this place has pretty good sushi but it is a little more expensive than some places in town. The crunch don is really popular and is really good. When I get spicy ahi bowls though, it’s always drowned in the spicy sauce and is too spicy. Their hand rolls are rolled for you(so it’s best to eat right after you get it), but most times it’s not properly rolled(it’s loose and things falling apart) Also, if you are like me and love unagi sauce on your spicy ahi bowl. They charge an additional $ 1 here

I haven’t written a review for Sushiman HK yet?! How can that be? Now, you might be asking how can a chain takeout sushi restaurant get five stars this isn’t Nobu! But that’s the thing. It’s where you can go literally everyday and have delicious food, be satisfied, and not break the bank. I get two handrolls from here practically everyday for lunch(for the last 6 years). $ 5. No where can you be full from a $ 5 lunch but here. Now, you may have been to one of the many other Sushimans on the island. However, they’re not as good. They’re forgettable. This location is not. If you’re really hungry, maybe you were just at Sandys all day or just hiked Koko Crater. Get a crunch bowl($ 10). Then sit outside at one of the tables looking over the marina and enjoy. My coworker, Ross, back when I worked at Roys introduced me to this. It’s ginormous. Myself and one of the other hostesses would split one before the restaurant opened. A crunch bowl is a delicious mix of spicy ahi and shrimp and vegetable tempura chopped up over rice. Seriously. So good. My normal everyday is a California or an avocado handroll x 2. I know its not super exciting but they’re SO delectable and fill you up. My absolute favorite on the go lunch. I get this approximately 3 – 5 times a week. Their spicy tuna handroll is also super yummy. My dad also is a regular here. He loves the chicken katsu bento. It comes with a California roll, edamame, and rice. He gets that quite often. One day my dad called in my handrolls and his bento and the lady who works there laughed and said«oh I know your dad! He comes all the time too!» Oh and back before my dad had ever come here I used to pick up spam musubis for him. They’re awesome. They’re the double kind. With spam on both sides. As he would say everytime I brought him one, «awesome sauce!» My mom also enjoys the handrolls but the other day she ordered the spicy garlic shrimp bento and we shared it and we were pleasantly surprised by the sauce. It wasn’t too spicy but super good over rice. Idk if I would order it again over my two favorites but I’d definitely want to sample a bite of someone else ordered it! And lastly, my brother and his girlfriend order handrolls and crunch bowls from here all the time. Though he’s more of a spicy ahi handroll guy. He comes here a couple times a week. Last week I called and called him to see if he wanted anything before I called in my order and he wasn’t answering so I said oh well and walked in to pick up my food and he was sitting outside eating! So obviously I love it here. My family loves it. And I know you’ll love it too. It’s tucked away behind maile’s thai bistro so don’t get lost! And PROTIP: call in your order so you don’t have to wait. Sometimes it can take awhile so I always call it in on my way over there!

ordered the my meal from the picture, I’m just simply asked for some tartar sauce for the fish, either they didn’t have it or they wouldn’t go to the trouble to give it to me whatever the case, that really irked me. Other than that, average.

The food here is okay. Not worth the expensive price. The service isn’t that great either.

There are higher quality sushi places of course, but this place is still legit, especially for the price. That being said, I almost don’t want to write this review and blow up my spot, but the seating outside in front of the marina is amazing. Perfect get ‘er done sushi w/1 of the best dining views in Hawaii Kai. There, that’s my good deed secret of the day…

I guess I was having a bad food day today. I tried not to be judgmental while trying this place but after being served frozen fish I was over it. I ordered the six piece ahi nigiri and soba. Of course the ahi is frozen fish just like kuru kuru and genki but I didn’t expect it to be served frozen. The ahi came out still icy hard and the rice to fish ratio was extremely off. On top of that the soba I had was under cooked. You could say I had a very dissapointing lunch.

Tucked away by the stage, in the back towards the water, I don’t know how this place stays in business… they’ve got no visibility in the shopping center. Walk inside and you’re greeted with endless choices of sushi, udon, donburi bowls etc., on 2 walls and displays on and in the counter. It can get confusing and overwhelming. What do I do when faced with so many choices? I order my boring old standbys; Ikura and Tuna rolls, and coffee smoothie w/out the tapioca. Both rolls turned out to be excellent with just enough vinegar su to have some taste, but not so much that it was overwhelming. The coffee drink was nice and slushy. Sure, they don’t make it with real coffee like the Starbuck’s next door, but it wasn’t overly sweet and was refreshing. When I went to pay for my order there were even more choices of food in a picture menu on the counter. Next time I’ll try the takoyaki, or donburi bowls. My only comment and complaint is that the service though friendly, is very slow. If you’re in a rush call ahead, or expect a small wait.

I live in the area, so always looking for a quick sushi fix. Have these guys dialed into my phone and my usual order is a dragon roll. Good stuff, fair pricing, and a mellow vibe. Bonus, you can eat right on the marina outside the place if you’re hoping for a mellow eat/hang out. Pro-tip: Phone in your orders and check out their menu as the prep takes a little bit of time.

Very convenient and cheap! And just because its cheap it doesnt always compromise quality because they have some great sushi here, especially when you’re on the go and just want to pick some up to eat at home or wherever.

My favorite of all the local sushi places!!! They’re always very nice and very welcoming when I go there. And their sushi variety is great, along with the taste!

Try the spicy tuna and philly handrolls, they are delicious! Ok, now about sushiman… I would say that they are low cost, have a big menu, and the sushi is always good. The customer service is sometimes spotty; but its good enough to keep me coming back. Bring cash if your total is under $ 10, 2 handrolls are a little over $ 5.

It’s hard for me to give a review on this place. I love their crunch don but the wait times are ridiculous sometimes. Customer service isn’t that great either. Call in a take out order so you don’t have to wait!

So sad what’s happened to this place. It used to be a reliable sushi option in Hawaii Kai. I used to eat here for years but won’t ever go back after today’s experience. We order the spicy ahi donburri and there was barely any ahi in the bowl. Ok maybe a mistake. Then we get the shrimp tempura roll and when it comes out it literrally had no shrimp was just a fried tempura batter(obviously frozen) we complained and the manager said«there should be shrimp in there». She was rude and unapologetic. The kicker was when we got to the spicy ahi maki and yet again all rice no ahi. Won’t ever go back and would advise to steer clear there are better options in HK.

The owner must be in a grouchy mood today… Very rude to me. Just rushed me and then threw my receipt at me. Usually receive okay service… Not sure what her deal is today. Next time it happens again ill give her a high five…

Two words: Kimchee udon. I don’t go anywhere else for my kimchee udon fix. It is a far drive from where I live but it is definitely worth the drive! You can make an adventure out of it by going sight seeing in the nearby areas and then ending the day at Sushiman! I’ve also tried the avocado roll, dragon roll and dynamite roll and they’re all scrumdilioucious! Don’t even get me started on the size of the rolls! 00 It takes two bites to eat one slice of the roll(that’s if I’m not shoving it in my mouth, hehehe) Sushiman is located in Hawaii Kai Towne Centre near Costco, next to Panda Express. It’s actually hidden behind it. If you have trouble finding the place, I would call them to ask for directions. Once you know where it is, you’ll never forget. There is plenty of parking available in the towne center.

This place may be hard to find if you do not normally walk around Hawaii Kai Towne Center. The place looks fairly clean on the front side, you may be overwhelmed by the vast menu selection when you walk in. Just take it slow and look for anything you are craving, I am sure that they have it. I mainly go here for the wonderful bowls that they have. It just hits the spot after a long day at work you need a quick lunch. My recommendation is to try the crunch don. it’s a little spicy but the flavor and texture will keep you smiling! Happy eating.

I was working in the neighborhood and decided to get some sushi on my lunch break, so I decided to give this place a try. I ordered 6 pieces ahi nigiri and 3 pieces salmon nigiri, so my co-worker and I could share. So she takes her lunch and we begin to chow down. I pick up a piece of the ahi nigiri and take a bite, and its completely frozen. Not its a little cold, but ROCKHARDINTHEMIDDLE. I give them a call this is how the conversation went …I told the girl my order, then she said that she remembered me… Me: «Yes, Well… the ahi nigiri that I ordered from your place is frozen» Girl«Oh well, do you have a microwave?» Me: «Not one that I can use right now, and I don’t want to microwave my sushi»(to me, nigiri is supposed to be fresh, not cooked– even microwaved) Girl: «Oh, then you can leave it out» Me: «But I ordered my food to eat now, on my lunch break and I can’t eat it now because its frozen» Then, with her genius powers of observation, she says «That sucks, I guess you can’t eat it now» Me: «Well is there anything that you can do, refund, return/exchange or give me non-frozen food» Girl: «Just leave it out» Me: «I think your missing the point»… Repeat last three lines for another minute I will NEVEREATHEREAGAIN And that is why the 1 star.

I stopped in to Sushiman last night for the first time. Both the boy and I were pretty wiped out after a long day at work and neither of us was really up for either cooking or getting cleaned up to eat dinner out. I did a quick search on Unilocal for something close and quick. This seemed like a good option… mmmmeeeeehhhh…I’m pretty nonplussed overall, but depending on what you’re looking for, Sushiman could be an okay option. I picked up several maki rolls and some gyoza to bring home and we both agreed that the food was pretty meh. Not terrible, but certainly nothing to write home about, either. The Philly roll was probably my favorite. The spicy tuna was okay too. We had lots left over. I did notice while I was waiting for our food that Sushiman offers a lot of big sushi platters for pretty reasonable prices, so if you need to dash in for something quick to take along to a party, this could do in a pinch. The service is quick and friendly, and the 3 small tables inside were clean. There is no «ambiance» to speak of here(flourescent overhead lights) so I would recommend getting your food to go. I suppose I’m rather picky when it comes to sushi… I’d rather eat really good quality fish or none at all, so I probably won’t be back to Sushiman any time soon.
