Hawaii State Federal Credit Union

I love Hawaii State FCU… especially this one because there’s always parking :) the only junk part is getting back on the freeway it takes longer than other hsfcu branches that I have visited. The staff are friendly, the service is great, and they offer some good competitive rates. This branch has the free coinstar for members… Free is better than being charged for turning in your money (coins). ;)

This is in response to the members services call center. The reasons why I decided to open a credit union account is because I recently became eligible because of my state job and because I heard of the awesome customer service. First time dealing with them and it was unpleasant. I called to ask what my member number was so I can register my account online and her tone and slightly hidden attitude made me feel like I was bothering her and wasting her time. I know I should know my member number, but I couldn’t find it anywhere in the emails I received or any mail sent to me. But regardless, that’s why I called the call center. I’m regretting Opening an account with Hawai’i state federal credit union.
Lastly, I received my pin # and checks the beginning of the week and am still waiting for my card. I was told the card should arrive first… Either card was sent somewhere else or I was given wrong information.

Today October 14 (every year) is credit union day and they’re giving out free bags. The tellers are always friendly and efficient. Special props go to Mel and Eden

FUCK THIS PLACE!!!
They don’t give a shit about their customers! I had to order a new card so I waited 2 weeks I then got my card in the mail then another letter with my pin activation number. Once I got the pin number I called to activate it. They told me it was activated so I tried using it and guess what IT DIDNT WORK!
I then tried calling them and of course it is a machine talking to you about a bunch of confusing bullshit that doesn’t make sense, when all you want to do is talk to a live person. I finally got online to do the online chat help desk and started chatting with a representative. I gave them the card number and expiration date and the representative told me my card has the WRONG expiration date!!! WTF. So they then told me this card will work but I have to wait for ANOTHER card in the mail!!! WTF!!!
Also I can’t even use the app to see how much money I have AT ALL!!! When I try to login on the app it says we need to confirm your identity so they have you either text or call them to get a login number so I tried doing the email and I didn’t get an email response I then tried to have them call me. No call whatsoever. so basically I CAN’T EVEN LOG INTO MY OWN BANK ACCOUNT TO SEE HOW MUCH MONEY I HAVE. I could maybe understand if this was a temporary thing but it’s been like this for months! About 6 months since I’ve known but probably longer. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS THEY TRY TO MAKE YOU AS MISERABLE AND IRRITATED AS POSSIBLE! THEY WANT THEIR CUSTUMERS CONFUSED! DON’T GO WITH THEM I WARN YOU!!!

This bank is operated by an incompetent manager. I’ve been to other banks with checks and my funds were ready immediately. It’s simple, manager, it’s like this, stop being lazy and call the other bank to release the funds. The funds are all there! Stop sitting on your desk behind the tellers and stop talking story with your kids. Be professional and help your customers. Do what got you promoted in the first place. Don’t be so complacent.

This is the worst bank in the galaxy. I’m from the Big Island and we had to deal with them through the phone, emails and whatever to apply for a loan. So obviously no person to person contact.
From spelling names wrong on a new checking account, wrong addresses on check books, wrong names on loan applications, never have I dealt with a bank that makes so many mistakes. They messed up on the address for our checkbooks 2 times. It’s frustrating and plain stupid to know the type of work they do. Working in a bank, aren’t you supposed to pay attention to detail? Margin of error should be zero! A person’s account is at stake here… come on people!!!
Those mistakes were corrected but if they double checked, or even triple checked their work, everyone could’ve saved time. The saying goes, «Time is money!»
Yes if I could give them negative stars I most definitely would!!!

I’m so thankful to my mother-​in-​law, who was a longtime Hawaii State worker for the Judicial System, for urging us to become members of this credit union. Prior to our marriage, my husband was already a member. Together, we nave been members for nearly 45 years.
My husband, who used to work downtown, would frequent this branch to make transactions rather than using the ATM. He would always tell me about the friendly and efficient service that he received. Most of the tellers would recognize him even out of the office and greet him in the streets. Now that we’re retired and often go to this branch for financial transactions, we still feel special by the recognition, friendly and smiling faces.
We have loyally used this credit union for our savings, checking, credit card (s) and home loans. Even during the 2008 Global Recession, HSFCU has remained strong to and appreciative of their members. They continue to grow with and for their members by offering new programs and offering great loan interest rates.

USAA offers more products and services and it welcome any military or non-​military members. Every time I suggested an idea to HSFCU; the management team shot it down, not a great way to grow.

In defense of all financial institutions. It is the responsibility of the member/​customer to oversee and review their accounts on a regular basis. That’s why monthly (or quarterly) statements are made available. And information is available through online home banking, automated telephone banking as well as calling member services or visiting your branch.
It is the responsibility for the representative to understand what the members needs are, verify and repeat the request back.
Member privacy is of utmost concern and is the law. We need to make sure the name on the receipt is the member in front of us. Or if it’s a runner all proper procedure is in place to protect the account holders information.
Credit Unions are not banks. CUs don’t make a profit for shareholders. They are member run and benefited. The fees you might pay for an overdraft or non sufficient fund goes back to support other services and fees members never see that are usually charged by their bank counterparts.
It’s actually great to be a part of a credit union. Google it and find out or yourself.
Hawaii state FCU is one of the few larger credit unions that stay true to membership qualifications. That is, although it might be a goal to get everyone in the state to be a member in a traditional manner. Get to know your financial institution. They appreciate that and you will too.

Awesome bank, as I use it for my 2^nd account being a state worker. great customer service as I’m greeted with a big smile every time I walk in to do my banking, lines aren’t to bad, fast service. Definitely a bank worth giving 5 stars.

WORST BANK EVER. If I could give 0 stars I would. Got conned to sign up with the promise of a nice free portfolio «only needing $ 20» at a table at my work. Well $ 150 later I had an account. It was all downhill from there. I opted for online statements at signup; apparently they ignored that and charged me every month. After several months I noticed all these charges and went in to cancel my account. Found out there is a cancelation fee if it’s in the first year. They told me that I needed to login online or I will keep getting charged. Tried to sign up but, kept getting errors, and kept getting charged. Basically, I signed up out of convenience and got charged a lot. Ended up going back to Bank of Hawaii.
TLDR: Signed up, charged a bunch a fees, wasted a bunch of time and energy trying to fix it. Just stay with BOH

Been Banking since 1999′…

I have going to the Waialae branch, and have now become of fan of the main branch. I little difficult to find off of Halekauwila Street, just outside of «Downtown» Honolulu. This location has both street parking and parking in the structure. You will need to take an elevator to the second floor, where there is a large bank and loan offices. There was no waiting time for me, as there were more than enough tellers to take care of the customers. The tellers are also very friendly and helpful, better than the Waialae and Windward mall locations. This office is a couple of blocks away from my office, so I will be back!

Refuse to put refinance offers in writing then request that you accept or decline the offer via a phone call.

Just signed up for this credit union and their services are similar to HawaiiUSAFCU. James helped me open my account. Great customer service and this location is very impressive, everything is nice and shiny. James answered all my questions, gave me more info on loans and was able to get me out the door in time to go back to work. They have a promotion, you get $ 50 for referring family members or co-​workers.

I HATE THIS BRANCH! The service here is horrible! Everytime I come here it s a different issue…
1) My sister when to deposit her cash and checks here after getting married. They deposited the monies easily enough. Then they got to the checks, they said that they had to verify all of them (the one’s from HSFCU) before they could deposit them into the account. Ok, that took forever. So that was done, they gave her a receipt with the correct amount deposited. She went home, checked her balance and was missing 10,000 (yes 4 zero’s!) dollars! She took a closer look at the receipt and the monies were deposited just not in her account!!! First off they didn’t know what happened! WTF, you don’t know where 10,000 dollars are! You better go and find out. I guess when they were verifying the checks, they put in the other ladies number and deposited into her account. They bank said that they would be reversing the deposit then putting it back into her account. The bank didn’t even call the lady to tell here they were doing this, my sister did! This branch really really sucks!
2) I had a double change put on my account, so I incured like almost a 100 bucks in overdraft fees. I contacted my credit card company and they only took out the allotted amount. I went to this branch and they said that the CC company was at fault. I asked why there was a hold, the teller when to talk to a manager, and came back and said well, sorry the CC changed their policy. How the HELL DO YOU KNOW THAT?! I wasn’t sent anything in the mail saying that when I make a payment the bank is authorized to make a hold for the same amount. Pissed off already, I called the CC right there in front of the teller on speaker phone where the CC company said they didn’t know who told me that they changed their policy but that they didn’t. The manager then walks away and to the back so I can’t see here anymore. The audacity of these people, lets just say they gave me back my money. Hello 100 bucks is alot of damned money and they finally released 200 dollar hold on my account.
DON’T GO HERE EVER!!!

When it comes to credit unions, the services of the Hawaii State Federal Credit Union, especially their flagship location on Halekauwila Street. Heck, their services rival those of any major bank!
The credit union as a whole, offers great products and services that you would expect from any major bank. The interest rates they offer on their savings and checking accounts are pretty high while their loan rates are relatively low. The rates on their other products are fairly reasonable too.
This particular location is by far the easiest for me, since I live/​work in town. However the service stands out for me. Many of the tellers will start recognizing you and remember you by name. They are extremely friendly, know their products and services, and know how to do their jobs in a quick and efficient manner.
Parking can sometimes be a pain, so I try to avoid the lunch hour, but its never a really long wait for it.
All in all, if you are an eligible candidate, be sure to check them out!

I have been using HSFCU for years now and it’s the only «bank» that I use for my personal accounts. I even made my wife open an account with them against her will. She now is a loyal client like myself. Each year, the credit union pays dividends in addition to their «high» interest rates.
I’ve always been pleased with the service from this branch. I used to work in town and this was the only place that I banked. The parking was a little of a hassle and there weren’t enough branches. They have since opened a number of new branches and even do shared banking (can bank w/​other credit unions) making life a lot easier.
