This place is definitely an upgrade from subway and costs around the same. It was my first time there and planned to get the Reuben(usually my go to) but they ran out of corned beef(it was about 2:30pm), so I Got the Hi-Sub Club and added Avo($ 1.50 extra) instead. The bun was super soft and slightly sweet, and probably my favorite part since rarely ever eat white bread. The turkey was that thick cut turkey you find at Costco I think and had a pretty good amount. Also had a little bacon in ever bite which was good. The downside was the ample amount of lettuce watered away some flavor and I would have preferred a little more Avo. There were only 4 – 5 fingernail thin slivers. I almost forgot I added it on. Overall, it was a good cheat meal and I’ll probably come back to try their Reuben

I’m really on the fence about this one.. . Let me give you some perspective, I love sandwiches but I refuse to eat at Subway(eating a subway sandwich is like eating air, 5 minutes later you’re hungry again). Was the sandwich that I bought filling? Yes. In fact, I ate it for lunch and skipped dinner because I was still full. Was the bread good? Yes, the sweet soft roll reminded me of Stortios, I couldn’t tell if it’s actually Portuguese sweet bread or if the papaya seed dressing I added was giving it that sweet flavor. Was the service good? Absolutely, the staff is super patient and attentive yet gave me my space while I figured out what sandwich I was going to get. Plus, they wrote an awesome message on the wrapping which is an excellent personal touch. So what fell short for me? The price. Let’s be clear, I don’t mind paying for quality. But does anyone else feel like every meal you buy no matter where you are is $ 10? I built my own 6 inch turkey sandwich and added avocado for $ 1.50 extra. There were 3 slices of avocado, in my opinion, not worth it. Plus the veggies were seriously lacking. The meat. When I go to a deli or a sandwich spot, the deli meat needs to wow me. I can go to Safeway’s deli counter and get better turkey. 3 oz apparently means 3 slices of turkey(folded which becomes 6). Sadly, I will continue to have to drive to the North Shore to get my sandwich fix. I encourage the owners to check out Waialua Bakery in Hale’iwa– they’re baking fresh bread, roasting and shredding their own meat, piling on the sprouts for $ 7.50. Did I enjoy my sandwich? Yes! Will I be back again? Nope

the guys at the counter were awesome and really accommodating. Coming from the east coat, the subs were alright but not as good as our hoagies. But I would still recommend them for those who are unsure of what a hoagie is. They provided plenty of meat on the sandwich, good service, clean work area, and reasonable prices. Sandwiches were really big!

Decided to try here after seeing that ridiculous poor review by the sandwich nazi. The sandwiches were nicely prepared. The staff was friendly and service was prompt. The prices are comparable to other sandwich shops in Hawii, not that there are a lot to choose from. It is similar to stortos or Aloha sub but priced slightly lower and easier to get to. I will definitely return. Ps everything in Hawaii is more expensive than the mainland, that’s the price of paradise.

HI Subs is definitely a place you want to come for a fresh ONO sub. This is our first time here, they have many selections and lunch specials. We took advantage of the HI ‘Ohana sub it was HUGE. You can feed an ‘Ohana of 4 with the 18′ sub. Staff was super friendly, loved the chalkboard where kids do thier drawings. Dont forget to get your stamp card. We will definitely be back

I live near the Kalihi area and I thought there weren’t a lot of good places to eat nearby until I found Hi Sub. This restaurant is located near Dillingham Zippy’s in the Kapalama Shopping Center. The menu has a lot of selection of sandwiches and subs. One thing that caught my eye was the writing«Bread baked fresh daily =) and „Veggies freshly cut daily =).“ They weren’t wrong about that after eating here. I ordered the „Broke Da Mout“ because I love pastrami and vegetables. When I received my sub I was quite surprised at how much veggies was included. I don’t normally like lettuce and any type of sprouts but I enjoyed every bit of it. The pastrami was very tasty, it wasn’t salty or bland. Even the mustard sauce wasn’t overpowering because they put just the right amount. There is mayonnaise in it but I usually have it taken out. The bread was warm and soft with every bite. Wasn’t sweet like a glazed donut. I think if I had a glazed donut, my mouth would be broken with cavities. Overall I thought this sandwich was well made. I think the ratio to meat and veggies is just right for an 8» sub although I could be veggie biased. I definitely felt full after eating it which led to a kanak attack. Probably shouldn’t be eating and driving. One thing I have to mention is that the chairs are uncomfortable. Kind of sags down when you sit on it. Not good if your back stay sore.

Ordered«Da Big Kahuna» for my husband, requested it spicy. So good. Then I ordered one of their newer sandwiches but a fan favorite«Love At First Bite», a turkey pesto with red onions. Usually I’m not a fan of any of those ingredients but tried it and loved it. It’s now going to be one of my favorites. Thank you Lina for making the sandwiches so awesome.

Located in the Kapalama shopping center, this place is clean and organized. Staff is friendly and patient with their customers. I got big ka-tuna yesterday, and an Abunai today. Yesterday they had a delay in service, and as an apology gave me a coupon for 50% off my next purchase! That’s what I call customer service! Both of the sandwiches are delicious. The only complaint, and the reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because my second sandwich, the Abunai, tasted very different from what I expected. The name implies a spicy sandwich, however it is very sweet and has a teriyaki taste almost. It’s very good and I liked it, but I wanted something spicy and got sweet instead. Abunai means«dangerous» in English and usually food named in that fashion means spicy! However, I will be back again!

This plus is amazing. Started coming here when it was aloha subs and the only thing that has changed is the name. Even on a Sunday veggies are crisp, bread soft and service with smiles. A whole sub feeds 3 people. And a half can feed my husband who can eat !! Very accommodating and friendly. It’s our come to sub place no matter where we are.

Very overpriced for the amount of meat on a sandwich. If I am going to be paying more than $ 10 for a sandwich I want more than one thin layer of meat. On the plus side quality is decent and service is pretty quick, but I’d rather save my money and stop at a subway.

Stumbled on this place the other day while doing laundry. At first I wondered why the sandwiches seemed pricey, but after seeing and tasting my sandwich I can see why. It was a nice fresh, decent sized sandwich crammed with lots of veggies.Delicious. I ended up eating the big ka-tuna, and my boyfriend got the turkey pesto. I also saw them give a free sandwich to an elderly lady(quite possibly homeless) who wanted one but didn’t have quite enough money. I would highly recommend :)

I was in the area after my doctors appointment and was really craving a good sandwich! Thanks to Unilocal I discovered this place I looked over a few photos and skimmed through a couple reviews and decided to give it a try. The«kanack attack» is what my BF& I decided to share. It comes with ham, roast beef, bacon, pepperoni, avocado, pepper jack cheese & veggies! I also added the papaya dressing to mines. This was my first time so I wasn’t sure how to order or what to expect, the guy taking my order asked me if I wanted a half or full size… me thinking half was like half a subway sandwich I said full because my BF& I were going to share lol. My total was $ 22, I was a little confused but I paid it any way lol! I thought it was because I wanted all the veggies and added papaya seed and got a drink so anyway my BF& I sat down inside and waited. We waited quite a while maybe 10 – 15 min tops and we were wondering why it was taking so long. THEN when we got the sandwich… omfg it was huge! It was like a WHOLESUB! Like 2 foot longs in one almost I was like oh gosh me and my pregnant brain wasn’t thinking this out clearly apparently haha! But honestly, the sandwich was amazing. From the bread to the variety of meats and flavors and fresh veggies, I fee the papaya seed dressing really topped it off! We couldn’t finish the whole sub in one sitting alone so we saved half for later. I didn’t mind anyway since it was actually really really good! I’ll be back if I’m ever in the area again and I’ll know to get a half size next time Bottom line, give this place a try! Based off all the good reviews I’m sure you’ll have one to give yourself :)

Really good subs! I like the many options to customize your sub. They offer different types of mustard, dressings including papaya poppy seed(Yum… reminds me of Andy’s in Manoa), meats, and cheeses. The subs are big and definitely worth the price. The workers were friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back! My only recommendation for the business would be to offer a stamp card.

I love this place. The bread and papaya seed dressing are what make a sandwich here special. I don’t eat meat, so I always get the tree hugger sandwich which consists of veggies, cheese, and avocado. My only complaint is that there is hardly much avocado on the veggie sandwich. Considering the avo is replacing meat, it’s kinda a bummer. Today I paid an extra $ 1.50 for more avocado on the sandwich. Service is always friendly and quick.

FRESH !!! Never going to subway again! The 8″ is huge! Didn’t even finish the whole thing because I was full off of half. Great service, there is a wait because they make it fresh and I love that!

This review is based off half a sub I found in the fridge! My wife said«try this pastrami sandwich I bought»… I saw a nice looking sub style sandwich in the fridge and it was nice and cold. I thought it looked familiar and the meat ratio looked perfect. I took a bite and WOW — this sandwich is GOOD! I mean, I kind of miss the papaya dressing the old place had, but this is a KILLER sandwich! Just the half I had made me want to go and get another. This place is so much better than Subway and the bread is really great. If this is run by the same nice people, then great! Have nothing more to say except it is a great tasting sandwich. I will be going there when I want a great sandwich!!! Sorry, there is no picture because I ate it all, it was that good!

Different name, same great sandwiches. This is probably my boyfriend and I’s favorite place to grab a sandwich on the whole island. He hasn’t even had a sandwich with meat in it due to me being vegetarian but even still, he loves this place. He loves the veggie sandwich! It’s crazy to me that he never picks out his own half with all those meat choices. Since he doesn’t, the massive 16″ veggie sandwich with all the toppings, avocado, cheese, dressings is our pick every time and it never fails. The bread does seem a little different with the new changes– maybe just a little less sweet and soft. It tastes good still and I think it actually holds the sandwich better and less sandwich fillings fall out. The inside of the restaurant hasn’t changed much besides the signage/menu and it’s still clean, fresh, and inviting. Employees are the same and their service is great. No complaints on the quality or service here as it’s continually consistent, awesome, and delicious!

The sub I had was just delicious, down right delicious. I got the volcano sub and it packed a subtle punch. The place is very clean inside and offers a wide variety of subs. I’d recommend this place for the authentic local feel of a successful small business.

So many sandwiches to choose from! My boyfriend and I ended up with a HI Warrior to share since we were in the area looking for something to snack on. The 8″ was more than enough to fill us for a mid afternoon snack. For $ 7.75 is such a great deal to feed two people! I love how everything was fresh from the bread to its veggies to its meats. The HI Warrior consisted of Roast Beef, Turkey and Salami and we got all veggies offered for our sandwich. Their papaya sauce dressing along with honey mustard condiment is so goooood! Probably what gives the sandwich more flavor. You really can tell the freshness of how their bread is baked daily when you eat it. Definitely better than all the sandwich places we’ve been too. If you check in on Unilocal, you get 10% off your purchase. They also have a stamp card for every 10– 8″ sandwich you purchase, you get a 8″ sandwich for free.

One of the most delicious and addicting subs — Kanak Attack! They balance the meat, cheese, lettuce, dressings to bread amounts in the most perfect combination! It is $ 10.50 but its enough for 2 meals :) I’ve tried a few other subs but the Kanak Attack is more tasty to me. Get it exactly how they make it with all the fixings — WINNER!

On the hunt for a sandwich for lunch that did not come from Subway, I suggested a place that had apparently changed names. My coworker looked at me and scowled like I had failed her and/or turned her in for something, but we went inside anyway to check it out, because really, how badly can one mess up a sandwich? Hi SUB has an expansive menu to include everything from meatballs to tuna to pastrami to roast beef, and well you get the idea. They also have the option to create your own sandwich where you can add meat(s) by the ounce and cheese(s) and customize your toppings. For the weekday crowd, they have sandwich specials for lunch with a selected 8″ sandwich for $ 6.95. We ate here on a Tuesday so we both had the Sunrise which had turkey, roast beef and ham. We were able to customize our cheeses and toppings and were both shocked when handed our sandwiches and realized that they weighed as much as a newborn baby. After getting our sandwiches back to the office, the ONLY thing I would note is that if you want to add the papaya dressing like we did, ask to get it on the side to avoid it sopping up into the bread too much before you get your grind on. The staff was friendly and the store was super clean. We will definitely be back, BUT this time we’ll likely share the sandwich to avoid walking around with giant food babies in our bellies for the rest of the day and being in a food coma from all the bread. If you check in with Unilocal, they also have a 50 cents off your order offer. Also if you’re a pickle person like me, they also have those for sale. The name may be a bit unfamiliar, but don’t be afraid. Hi SUB is definitely worth a visit.

I was taken back a bit when I seen it was no longer Aloha Subs. But don’t mind the name change because the sandwiches here are pretty much the same with the exception of the names. My regular go to was Jaws so I had to try out the BUMBUCHA! It is similar to Jaws but without the tuna. The sandwich taste the same and so does the bun. It was kinda bigger though. I would consider this a now and later sandwich and cut it in half. One sitting is kinda too much unless you plan on falling asleep. If your not eating it there, its best to have them put whatever dressing you choose on the side. It does get all over inside the wrapper and a bit messy and gets the bun a bit soggy if you don’t but it still taste great. Just have extra napkins on hand. Great customer service as always. It does get crowded during noon so order ahead of time so you don’t end up waiting while its being made. If you have your old Aloha Subs stamp card they still honor it too and take advantage of the .50 cent off when you check in!

The people are the same but the business name changed. That’s a good thing. The menu has also changed, possibly a problem, but if you liked something from the old menu, you can just ask. The bread has changed a little. Similarly sized but a bit denser. If you liked the airy, light bread before, you might be disappointed. The flavor is pleasant and matches well with the papaya seed dressing they use(to me, no sense coming here if you don’t get that dressing). Mostly take-out so probably best to avoid lunch time if you would like to dine in. Still has a stamp card program and still has a Unilocal check in special so give them a try if you like sub sandwiches as I do.
