Honolulu Tavern

I miss this place so much. I visited in early Dec, 2015… It was probably one of the highlights of my trip and I’ve been to Honolulu probably 5 or 6 times. I am so happy we «accidentally» discovered it. By the 3^rd night I felt like a local. I knew all the regulars and they made us feel right at home. It’s a very cozy and friendly place and you don’t need to be a local to get treated with respect. Just follow the Golden rule and you’re in. I met the owner and she was super sweet and genuinely interested in improving all that she can about the establishment. Personally, I wouldn’t change a thing, Cindy! Love, love… I felt like I was back home in Texas. Say hello to Kyle from Val and E. I will be back… keep my stool warm.

Great little dive bar with the most friendly bartender «kitty» and very friendly clientele. We were just passing through and everyone was very friendly and kind to us. Maybe not the place to go if you want a really fancy mixed drink but great place to just stop in a grab a beer or two!

I did not want to pay $ 14 per drink and found on Unilocal this local place and it was the bomb. The bartender was super sweet, gave us popcorn with our ridiculously inexpensive drinks. Just look at their happy hour, THE BEST HH in town, I am sure of it. Drinks were $ 3.25 and they had food as well so I ordered one pulled pork sandwich that came with caw-​slaw and chips but my BF inhaled it so we ordered one more.
Just a good crowd of local people.
You will have a good time… pool next door.

If you’re looking for a different vibe then the usually, pricey, crowded joints with super great prices and friendly people than this is your place. Buddy, the bartender, was absolutely awesome. Advised us on drinks and the specials. The owner even gave our party free t-​shirts! Best night in town so far! Don’t let the size of the place scare you away. Darts, pool, jukebox and drinks!

okay so I felt I should change my review to reflect only the bartender.
We show up at the bar, after being ignored for a good amount of time, the bartender finally approaches. I asked for 2 tequila shots and 6 tacos. After he puts the order in he comes over and starts harassing us over a bottle cap left at the bar, okay not our problem. So after he created a really awkward atmosphere for us the customers, we tell him we will just be leaving instead and this is where it gets a little interesting.
He immediately tried to guilt trip us into staying by saying he already put our taco order in so we can’t leave. Okay easy, I’ll pay for the tacos and we just want to leave. This goes on for another 15 minutes of him not bringing the bill and trying to convince us to stay. It was not until we were set on leaving that his entire attitude changed and he tried to make it out as we can’t take a joke, and that he was just joking the entire time.
Terrible service and a absolute asshole behind the bar. I would not waste your time or money.

I returned back to my favorite watering hole and noticed more changes made and a new fresh look. Of all the bars I’ve been to during my travels around the country, I’ve never seen an owner continuously make positive changes for its patrons in just the past two years.

This place is literally poop. Just full of drunk, old locals cat calling at every female they see. Very uncomfortable. We left immediately.

Love this place! Kitty (who works weekends) is a jewel! Very friendly and open. A great place to meet locals.

Our group came and was not served food for 3 hours.
Understaffed, poor quality. I would never recommend it.

If you google image «dive bar» this may just be the first place that pops up. My husband liked it more than I did, but it did get more… entertaining… as the evening went on. Some sketchy «activities» going on with the regulars, no question. While I won’t go into detail, use your imagination. Trust me, it’s that and more. No beer on tap, low end bottled beer, although they did have Kona Longboard, nightly drink specials, and $ 3 Rolling Rock. You can leave your «shot ski» home. Yep, they’ve got one!

Super divey spot. Tons of locals. Cheap beer. Darts. Pool. Some sketchy people but all good bars have those.

A real dive. Full of people who seem to live here. Not really my kind of place but others seem to like it.

Great small dive bar in the main Waikiki area. Located inside a hotel. Service was great.
The back bar area is bigger. Has a pool table, dart board, and jukebox.
Happy Hour was from 3−6pm.
Rolling Rock was $ 3. Jameson shots was $ 5.

Stopped in the Honolulu Tavern with glowing reviews from Unilocal on a Tuesday night. Was looking forward to shooting some pool, playing the jukebox, and having some drinks in an unassuming dive bar.
Walked into a bar area smaller then my living room with bad 70s rock playing on a stereo. Ordered a Stoli and soda for $ 6 and sat in the corner. Bartender was friendly enough, but I felt like the regulars stared us down. «You’re not local! You’re not local!»
I had one drink and left. I’m pretty sure everyone in the bar talked shit about us when we left. I can deal with this crap in SoCal.

The Tavern is a second home to me. Everyone is so friendly and quirky and so full of love. The drinks are great, the food is pretty good (make sure you stop by Tuesday nights from 7pm-​10pm for $ 1 tacos), and the staff will crack you up. Seriously, if you’re over the nightclub scene, this will be your new favorite bar.
Personal problems aside, the Tavern is a great place, evolving and changing into something greater than anyone expected.
