This place is awesome. Ordered the ramen set and its the best ramen for the price… will come back with the family if we’re around Kakaako. Thumbs up

Another great option in Kakaako. Korean owned but pretty good local style and ramen as well as some Korean dishes.

Went here for lunch, i give the one star only bc they were friendly and fast. I ordered steak and shrimp plate, all toss salad. I got teriyaki chicken(not what i ordered!!) and way undercooked shrimp. There was this garlic looking goop all over the shrimp-not flavorful at all and looked like applesauce not garlic! Shell on the shrimp too(i knew the shell would be on but did not expect that much sauce) so it was messy to even try and eat. I wont be going here again, very dissatisfied!

Looks like I’ll have to go back because apparently I didn’t get the highly recommended stuff. Lol. Location was neat and clean feeling on the inside despite its seemingly grungy exterior. Though, I never judge a book by its cover. I am not deterred easily. And I will gladly return. I thought it was real genuine of her to recommend the bibimbap when I asked her which to choose between that and the ramen. And it was tasty with lots of veggies. There was also some kind of sauce on the meat that made it unique from other places. I really liked the rice too for some reason. Perfectly made if you ask me. And I am not a rice snob, but I noticed it. And it came out fast. I mean fast. Like the cashier didn’t even have to tell the cook to make it, everything was ready and she just stepped to the back and put it together. Only downside is that horrible parking situation. My suggestion, come a little before or after lunch rush. Though I noticed most people just walked over.

The latte here is so good. The large saimin is good. I always have it with extra noodles. Saimin and latte together… mmmm. Yummy. I highly recommend it. try it.

Came by recently because my co-workers wanted to lunch here. I tried the plate lunch combo(teri chicken and teri beef) and a strawberry smoothie. While the food wasn’t mind blowing, it was way better than the initial seafood ramen that I had had back in December.

Tried the fish jun with shrimp and it was very good. The place could use an upgrade but take no big deal. Conveniently located on Cooke Street near the Imperial Plaza. Street parking.

I come here maybe once every 6 weeks when I’m craving chickrn katsu and fried rice. The fried rice is just right in terms of seasoning and taste. There’s a hint of garlic but it is not overpowering.. The chicken katsu is not as thick as other places whick makes the katsu to chicken ratio just right for me. The sauce has just a hint of heat and goes so nicely with the chicken katsu. If the place is not crowded my food comes out in less than five minutes.. I’ve tried other dishes, but this is my favorite. When I walk in the owner always approach and says«chicken katsu with fried rice?» I guess she remembers what I like, she is always so nice and very quiet. Sound carries in this restaurant so when its crowded it does get noisy.

I came here for lunch with my boss and didn’t have the best experience. While I’ve never been accused of being particularly patient this was a trying experience. Not only did it take super long and was just okay food wise but the wait staff just made no sense at all and didn’t want to even try to work with us on item customization. No ability to substitute anything out, nothing. We’d have happily paid a premium to get what we wanted. I won’t elaborate further cuz I don’t want to be mean but I think my boss summed it up great when he told the waiter. «Well I guess I’ll just get that and be unhappy».

Chicken teriyaki is what I ordered. Place looked clean so I chose to eat in. 2 pieces of chicken was soft and had a good flavor. 2 scoops of rice and one scoop of Mac salad, oh, and 2 pieces of gyoza. I found it sorta odd since I had plate lunch on my mind when my meal came on a square dinner plate accompanied by a metallic knife and fork. Nothing wrong with that just thrown off a little. Haha. $ 8.32(after tax) but ended up just giving $ 10 since I ate in and they served me. That’s a pricey lunch for me, but better than my last foray at some local spot(which shall remain nameless but rhymes with Ditchies) where I got something cheaper but the food was basically junk. Had I taken it to go I’d prolly be more pleased knowing I ate good food at a good price.

So I’ve been working down the street for about a year and a half now and never really thought about coming here until fast forward a year-and-a-half later and have tried every single eatery surrounding me including seedy looking lunch wagons and Vietnamese food in a day spa. It was time to try something different. Stepped in the restaurant and saw a few people eating there so I figured that was a decent sign. Looked at the menu and was somewhat surprised. I thought it was just a Ramen-ya but they also served a variety of dishes including Curries, Katsu’s, plate lunches and breakfast items. Very broad. I ordered the Chicken Katsu curry which to my delight wasn’t too shabby. The katsu wasn’t overly breaded, thick or overcooked like a lot of other places do. The curry was Japanese curry and it was just fine. I figure I’d come here again to try the Ramen. I’m sure it’s not a blow-your-socks off type of ramen but I’m sure it’ll do the trick when you’re hungry. Reminds me of an Ezogiku, always there, stable and consistent. I’d go back again.

Went again. This time I ordered a teri beef and chicken combo. Both meats were tender. However there is one aspect that ran through the meal — too sweet. The teri beef was sweet, so was the chicken. The macaroni salad was very sweet. The teri beef could have been cooked a little more — just a little more char on it. I think with a few adjustments — less sugar, more grill, this place could be much better. On the other hand, for about $ 8.25 for the meal, it’s a good value.

I hear that these are the same owners that once owned Young’s Ramen in the Salt Lake Shopping Center. I really loved that place and would look forward to their beef curry rice or chicken katsu rice dishes and kim chee. I have not tried the ramen here, but I ordered a plate of shrimp fried rice once. It was just okay. Nothing bad to say about it. The shrimps were super small, and the rice needed more spice or «pop.» But it came with a Solo container of good kim chee. I really like their kim chee and it tastes like the one at the old Young’s. You can tell it’s MSG laden, but it’s oh so good. It’s within walking distance in the Kapiolani Blvd/Kakaako area, so for those that work in this area, it’s perfect to grab lunch and take a short stroll here. Parking is street parking only. Next time, I’ll try the chicken katsu curry rice.

We love this place! The owners are very friendly, portions are generous, and prices are reasonable. All of the dishes we’ve tried have been very good — Teri Beef, Teri Chicken, Kalbi(excellent!), Miso Ramen, Chicken Katsu, and Fried Udon. I agree with another reviewer in that their ramen isn’t THEBEST, but they’re not a ramen specialty shop(the name is a little deceiving). They have a lot more variety like plate lunches. Overall, this place is great value. The fopd is good, the restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. Parking is minimal so you’ll need to find street parking nearby or live/work closeby.

Once upon a time, there was a place called Young’s Ramen in Salt Lake Shopping Center. When it closed down, it was a sad day. However, in the near future, rumor had it that Young’s had reopened, changing its name to Ichimen and relocated to the area of Kaka’ako. So of course, a few of my friends and I that grew up in SL went to check it out. We were happy we did. We sat in and the atmosphere was nice, clean and homey, the place is new. The service was very welcoming. There’s a lot on the menu! I was torn between getting a ramen set or chicken katsu curry, but my friend had ordered a chicken katsu curry ramen, and well, I had to get the same for the best of both worlds! Another friend ordered a mochiko chicken bowl. We topped it off with an order of gyoza. The food came out shortly and all of it looked great. The katsu was crisp and definitely not as greasy as many other places, and the curry ramen had a good flavor. The gyoza was thick and tasty, on par with others. I didn’t try any of the mochiko but my friend enjoyed it. The portions, for the relatively cheap prices, were perfect. The only gripe I have, as with the other places in the area, is parking. Luckily it was easy to find street/meter parking close by, but I’d imagine it to be chaotic when it’s busy and booming. Overall it was an awesome outing. We all had fun and glad to say that Young’s is back.

I don’t want to say it was the worst ramen I’ve ever had but the ramen was not authentic by any stretch of the imagination. I had the miso ramen set which comes with fried rice and gyoza. The broth was awful, something out of a package mix I think. The ramen noodles were quite obviously sun saimin noodles. The gyoza were ok and the fried rice was packed with MSG. Luckily if you find yourself at Ichimen, there’s many other plate lunch options — from local stuff to Korean dishes. Save yourself the heartache and get a fried chicken plate or something.

Good food for a good price at a convenient location. Had the ramen set with gyoza and fried rice. All for like 9 bucks. Sweet. The gyoza was top notch — soft on the top, pan-fried crispy on the bottom, nice little delicate folds in the construction, flavorful filling. These are not your«frozen from Don Quijote» dumplings! Ramen — nice with lots of noodles. Not Lucky Belly, but still quite good. Fried rice — a nice and unusual touch. beats the normal white rice. Also had a side of the chicken katsu. Very good. Crispy, not greasy at all. I’m happy to have this in my neighborhood. I can easily see this becoming one of my «I don’t want to cook tonight» go-to spots.

Wow ok the price of the mini combo is what drew me in… yeah okay I hate spending $ 10 bucks on lunch so I look for good food at good deals this mini combo was $ 6.75 not bad so I figured chance um… I’m pretty pleased I did it was a good size mini combo that I got with Chicken Katsu and Teriyaki one scoop Mac salad and one scoop rice plus they brought out a little bowl of Kim Chee too! Whoo! Okay you notice I was happy huh? The Katsu was just right although thinly sliced but no problem the Teriyaki was a little bit of a flashback for me though it was like getting Teriyaki at a Okazu place except it was warm not a problem but the same kind of meat with that hard fat vine in it but the taste was good. The Kim Chee was red but wasn’t hot enough to scare away the meek it was your standard plate lunch kind variety Kim Chee but a tad better given that it seemed to have had time to age enough where that freshly made crunch is taken off a bit and the juices are just soaking in… Okay here’s the scoop Yes, I’ll be back, parking is a bit of a problem as there is only street parking, counter people pleasant so that’s good I’d give it more stars if I can try more items in the menu and it’s good.

Definitely a fan. The first time I went here, i only had the gyoza. It was tasty and i really liked the sauce that came with it… Because I was satisfied with the gyoza, I told myself that the next time my coworkers go here im definitely trying some ramen… Yay, next time I came to work my coworkers suggested this place again!!! So, off I was to order some won ton ramen… We ordered it to go, and I couldn’t wait to rush back to my desk to sip some of the broth since I was sooo cold that day. From the first sip of the broth to that slurp of noodles, I was in heaven… ramen heaven. The broth was really flavorful and the noodles had a perfect thickness to it. At first I thought there were only 2 wontons, and felt a little jipped, but there were a total of 4. I almost couldn’t finish all 4, but was smart enough to save some for later. My coworkers had the chicken katsu curry ramen and they liked it. They ordered it the first time we were here and ordered it again when we came back, so it must’ve been good. They do accept credit card, but there is a $ 10 minimum. I will definitely be back for more!

Okay, I’m a ramen snob. That said, I will try any ramen shop once. Ichimen is a keeper. Priced right! Tastes Right! Located in the Right Place… Broth is tasty(clean not muddled with«stuff» broths are made of) Sun Noodle ramen(I love Sun Noodle texture) They have regular meals on the menu as well. Fresh Ground Coffee(French Roast coffee beans!!!) and they have smoothies too. Located in Kakaako, next to iconic Tsukenjo’s and Queens BBQ resides Ichimen; a welcome addition to what looks like Cooke Street«fast food restaurant row». Parking might be a problem on the weekdays(LOL but not for me, Ms Parking Police because I can walk over from my office) You can have a filling meal for $ 10, A steal! and the owners are the kitchen and wait staff!
