A neighborhood restaurant with the usual crowd. Probably has the best bread in Hawaii.

This is the only place I’ve tried in Kalihi that makes decent filipino food. I usually get the combo plates but today we tried the adobo fried rice omelet and sari sari. The omelet is puny, like ½ the take out container which is sad since its mostly rice and hardly any meat. Nothing like the restaurants in Waipahu. Shrimp sari sari was oily. This is a review of my last visit. Usually im satisfied with the food quality and quantity. Just want to give you a heads up if you are thinking of ordering the fried rice omelet.

Food was okay. Service was ney Food safety was horrible… There’s the grandma/Server who wears glasses, she always wear gloves when i eat at the place but she doesn’t change it. She uses the same gloves to serve food, wipe the tables, Rinse dishes(they dont sanitize or soap it), fix her glasses etc. YUCK, just pay attention to the stuffs when u visit the place.

Eh, since I can’t give 0 stars, I’m hesitantly giving 1. The food is near ok. Service is slow. Workers are rude. It’s very unprofessional to cut off a customer who is trying to put in an order, so you can serve your family and or friend, who is behind a certain person. Also, why does it take so damn long to ring up an order or even acknowledge a customer who walks in? This happened more than 2x. Will we come back? Probably not

Just like mom’s cooking! Although mom makes better pancit, everything else here is pretty close. I love the fried squid! The sauce they put on there is delish, and you have to make sure you eat it with a bite of the tomato and onion. Can’t go wrong!

I have NEVER written a review on Unilocal before, whether I had a good experience or a bad experience. My experience at this place today was so bad that I felt the need to write a review. So after my morning job my mom calls me and asks me to pick up lauya baboy from Jesse’s. So I go there and there’s two people in front of me. They had already ordered so they said I could go in front of them. So I’m standing at the register for a good 10 minutes. No greeting, no eye contact. Nothing. Then a fob Filipino guy literally cuts in front of me to pay for bread. I’m like wtf dude? I was obviously here before you. And the waitress doesn’t say anything!!! Being the out spoke I am, I blatantly say«wow, really? Did you just cut in front of me? That’s so rude.» I SWEARONMYLIFE both the waitress and the man heard me. But they just ignored me. Another 5 minutes pass and a FOB Filipino lady comes in. Guess what? THEWAITRESSHELPSHERFIRST. So I say again with my loud mouth, «REALLY? Did you just help that lady before me? That’s horrible service.» And again I get ignored. Finally a different waitress approaches the register and acknowledges me. «Can I help you?» UHHHYESYOUCANFREAKINGHELPME. The food at this place is delicious. My family and I eat here from time to time because they have the best Filipino food in Kalihi. But their service? Fucking terrible. I’m Filipino and I can speak Cebuano but not Tagalog. They didn’t acknowledge me because I couldn’t speak Tagalog to them like the other rude fobs. Usually when I come here with my parents the service is WAAAY better, but that’s only cause my parents can speak Tagalog. If I wanted Filipino food in Kalihi, I’d never come to this place again. I only gave a star because I’m not allowed to put 1. BTW, I’m still waiting for my food and it’s been over 15 minutes. Several people have ordered AFTER me and gotten their orders before me. Yeah, we’ll see how this goes…

I admit the food here tastes good but the service sucks big time! I’m not one to complain but you can only take so much. I’ve told myself I’m never coming back here but here I am again!

CALLYOURORDERSINOREXPECTTOWAITEVENLONGERTHANUSUALANDBESURETOCHECKYOURTAKEOUTORDERSBEFOREYOULEAVE! I was here less than a week ago and had decent service. My boyfriend and I had cravings all week for that shrimp sarciado since it’s always been a favorite filipino dish growing up. So we anticipated to just get a take out one of these days and enjoy it at home. We placed an order around 6:20 pm on a Tuesday Night for shrimp sarciado and fried pork. 15 min later, still no food ready yet, another 15 min pass by and the food is still not ready. Note that the restaurant side was not even busy for them to be taking that long to cook food. At this point we were just about to walk out but gave them another 10 min because we’ve waited that long so we might as well just stay for it since we were trying to satisfy our cravings especially for the shrimp sarciado. Time seems to fly by slower when you’re hungry, tired, and annoyed for waiting that long for simple food items to be cooked. Finally almost 45 mins later our take out was ready. Still can’t believe how long that took to even get our order. When we were there last week, I swear it didn’t take that long. We may as well just have eaten there, but maybe it was one of those days that we caught the super slow service that majority of Unilocalers were complaining about. Now I know why and experienced it for myself for the horrible service they provide. No personality, politeness or customer service whatsoever. Like it really makes me think how do they keep in business if all these other people have the same complaint as I do. We finally get home and are about to enjoy our dinner only to find out they gave us the WRONGORDER for one of our entrees. Instead of shrimp sarciado which was the main reason we went there, we receive some other type of vegetable shrimp dish. Totally just lost my appetite just expecting I was going to enjoy a tasty shrimp sarciado like we specifically ask for with the egg and yet we got a thick vegetable soupy shrimp dish. They were already closing so we weren’t about to drive all the way down to complain so we just decided to eat it anyways. It was so soupy and saucy that my taste buds were not having it with that dish. It seems like it was just a tomato vegetable dish with I swear what seems like only no more than 3 pieces of shrimp that I ate within that whole container. I was not satisfied at all. Definitely not worth what we paid for. I’ve never been so annoyed and disappointed at a restaurant so much as I did going through that experience. I understand why all these other Unilocalers gave negative reviews because it’s true, customer service is not at all priority at this place! If I were you, I’d just go to Max’s in Kalihi, you’ll get better service and filipino dish choices there.

I didnt go for the baked goods, but they did smell really good. The fried chicken is what hooked me. We got take out and it was so easy to do. Just call in and let them know what you want and you can come and pick it up. Well anyways the fried chicken is extremely crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. You can eat this plain or with some salt and pepper. I recommend that you eat this with the vinegar that they give you. If it sounds strange you are not alone. But give it a try because it really makes a difference!

This place has the worst service I have experienced in a long time. We came in and seated ourselves. No greeting. They waited for me to make up my mind because I honestly didn’t know what was good besides chicken adobo and long rice which I eat constantly. The food took a long time so I went to select some pastries from the glass case. I waited forever for someone to help us, just stood there for like ten minutes. I went and asked the cashier to help us and she still took a minute to come. They seemed uninterested in giving customer service at all. The food came after awhile but they never refilled our wAter or asked if we needed anything else. Then when we were all full the chicken long rice finally came out at the end. It was extremely strong tasting of ginger, and had tons of bones in it. The worst chicken long rice I have EVER had! Not impressed at all and it was not nice at all. Then at the end, after waiting for someone to bring us the check for even longer, I finally got up and walked to the cashier. She took her time filling an order that someone who just walked in had. She rang her up and took her time to put more stuff in boxes before ringing me up. Seriously… Long wait, no customer service, and they don’t even have that good of food. Yikes

I can honestly say the only thing I like about this place is the pianomo roll. I used to come here growing up and it was pretty good back then but now it’s just NASTY! They have NOCUSTOMERSERVICE and they are so sloooow. I really feel health department needs to do another check on this place cause I just get that GROSS feeling when coming here. It’s that DIRTY. You want Filipino food take a drive to Waipahu area. You’ll find a lot of better and cleaner places to dine.

This place has gone down hill. I recall coming here when I was a teenager and just loving the food. Staff would be friendly and the food was always so good. But fast forward to December 2014 *eeeekkkk*. This place is in need of a good scrub. Table tops were still dirty after the attempt to clean it. Staff is — well, not what you’d expect living in Hawaii. If that’s the case then never mind customer service skills. I almost felt as though it was a bother for me to spend my money there because they had to help me. UGH I get better service when I go to Waipahu and eat filipino food. I ordered shrimp sarciado and fried chicken. The manook(chicken) was nice and crispy and that’s why there’s a star. My sarciado had egg shells in them and it tasted as though it was fried with plastic. It tasted funky! Now before some of you haters decide to private message me, know this. I have eaten filipino food for a good number of years, have lived in the Filipino community and I know that shrimp sarciado shouldn’t taste like plastic just melted into my eggs. I am never ever ever, coming back to this place. I’m driving to Waipahu where they are more friendly and happy to see me spend my money in their restaurant. And to top it off, the Spanish rolls and malasadas tasted funky too. Our only explanation was that they reuse the cooking oil.

Called in an order 4 hours ahead. I got to Jessie’s 15 minutes early. I told then I wanted the food ready at 3pm, I left at 3:20. They only started to make it when I asked how much longer it would be. When I asked how much more time ahead should I have called to get my order on time. The cashier said she does not know what happened in the kitchen. No apology, nothing. To top that off. While I waited, a couple sat down & ordered their food. They were eating their order of 3 dishes before i left the restaurant. Piss poor service. And the funny thing is that they act like they can care less. Not coming back, i’m amazed they manage to stay in business.

They can get pretty busy so make sure you call in your order at least 30 minutes in advance so it will be ready for you when you get there I’m a big fan of their sari-sari and fried pork… they go well together too! sarap!

The service here is ridiculously SLOW. The food here is alright… I like the fried chicken and the lauya baka(its a soup with beef and cabbage). It’s close to where we live so its convenient otherwise I wouldn’t go out of my way to drive here. The place doesn’t feel very clean and the décor is crappy.

I don’t frequently eat Filipino food but my co-worker ordered their fried chicken one day and that weekend, I had lunch there with my boyfriend and his dad. My boyfriend ordered the mixed plated with adobo, pancit, and pork guisantes. The pancit was very saucy, which I didn’t care for. My co-workers often make pancit and bring for everyone at lunch and I prefer theirs over the one here. My boyfriend’s dad got the shrimp sari sari; this was my first time trying sari sari so I don’t have anything to compare it to. Lots of veggies, not as much shrimp. I got the chicken maronggay(though my aunt would call it chicken kalamungay when she’d make it) and of course, it was good, but it didn’t measure up to my aunt’s homemade chicken kalamungay(she had a tree in the backyard so she’d make it all the time and my cousin and I would collect the leaves for her). I also got banana lumpia, which was ok. It was rather soggy and overly sweet. My boyfriend made me pancit and banana lumpia for my birthday at my request and I liked his more. His dad also ordered me pan de sal — this, I liked! It isn’t THEBEST but it’s right across the street from my work place so I’ll probably start going regularly.

Came here straight after getting off the airplane from Los Angeles. I’m always famished for local food when I land in HNL. I like to try new places so my Mom and Dad brought me to Kalihi. We ordered Pork Sari-sari, pusit adobo and one more I can’t remember. Food was good and tasty. The adobo could have used a little more vinegar to my liking. The wait staff was interesting. Our waitress looked like she was at her 3rd job and was SUPER tired and cranky. So instead of being cranky at the customers she just kept a stoic zombie like demeanor. I don’t think she was happy that day. Anyhow, I recommend you try it. Prices are good for what you get. We took home leftovers and had a nice snack at home.
