Love this little lunch spot downtown! Stopped in with some girlfriends for a glass of wine and a sandwich and was blown away! Kyle was fabulous in helping us pick the best stuff on the menu and he didn’t disappoint… my pepper turkey sandwich was awesomeeee and HUGE. I definitely could have split it with one of the girls, but ended up eating the whole thing because it was so good! We all ended up getting the same thing, but I would love to go back for happy hour and to try the amazing looking lasagna I saw!

Walking down the street you might just pass this gem up! It’s nestled across the street from a major coffee brand(Starbucks) and makes more then just a quick cup of joe. My first experience with the café left such a impression i simply had to return. I was greeted by warm male who offered to go over the menu of drinks and food with me to ensure every detail was covered. I have returned several times and have always found the warm staff the greatest asset of the location.

Dined for dinner recently at Matteo’s Café as they are located in the lobby of the Marine Surf Hotel in Waikiki. This new café, furnished with modern style furniture, is an open concept design which allows the cool trade winds to flow through without the need for air conditioners. Matteo’s Café is open early serving breakfast, lunch and dinner offering specialty coffee and alcoholic drinks as they have a full service bar. Arrived at dinner time so menu offerings include deli sandwiches, paninis, pizza and salads. From their menu I ordered the kalua pork & havarti sandwich with cole slaw for $ 10. This sandwich is pulled bbq pork melted with havarti cheese and topped with caramelized onions on a baguette bread. For the price the sandwich was average in size with a small serving of cole slaw. I enjoyed eating the sandwich as it was very tasty and the bread was soft, however, the cole slaw was more on the vinegary side which did not agree with my taste buds. In all the service received was great with friendly staff and the prices at this café are reasonable.

Most recommended. It has excellent coffee and sandwiches and the atmosphere beats your run of the mill Starbucks and other coffee places. The staff is very friendly.

The best thing that’s happened to the Kuhio/Waikiki neighborhood in a long time! Imaginative menu… locally sourced food… friendly staff… good prices! The cole slaw is the best you will ever have! Prices are lower than Starbucks!

Matteo’s café was in the lobby of our condo building and it wasn’t until the 4th night that we stopped in here. I ordered a margarita, Cam had a beer, and we shared the island bruschetta, which was just a twist on the traditional with mango and other fruits in it. The bruschetta was wonderful, but since it was only a small plate, it wasn’t very filling. We weren’t really looking for a meal, but just a good snack. My margarita however, was… interesting to say the least. The bar tender told me that it was his special recipe. I took a sip and wondered if he knew what was in a margarita, because not only was it incredibly strong(which isn’t so bad) but it had very little lime in it(which kind of is bad, when you want a margarita.) However, the bartender said he had actually been on leave and he was just in covering a shift that night, so I’m sure that’s not how the margaritas are usually made. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great. Selections were really limited, and prices were kind of high. If we stayed in that condo again, we would probably stop by here as a end of the night stop, but I don’t think we’d go out of our way.

Good coffee and really great breakfast food at reasonable prices. Service was good and very accommodating when I was in a hurry. Seemed to not be crowded at all the two times I went and not sure why. Mango macadamia Hawaiian toast was great and a steal for only 7 bucks.

Matteos roasts their own beans! Yum. My 4 shot soy latte was a great way to start a Sunday. Breezy and airy with a nice me u. I’ll be back for lunch another day.

old-school for sure. Decent foot, portions and adequate service… but a bit of a tourist trap. Good… but nothing truly memorable!

Old school Italian at its best. Here’s a tip… Why don’t all of you dumb ass yokels dress up a little bit when you come in to a nice restaurant? Doesn’t have to be a suit, but how about some slacks, a nice shirt, and something other than tennis shoes? Oh yeah, and leave your fucking hat off! Great food, old style service, and great atmosphere.

I will NEVER go back here! My girlfriend and I went here for dinner, waited almost 10 minutes after being seated to get any attention for a menu, water or bread. Once we asked for a waiter we got drinks, never got bread and then had to ask for the guy to come take our order. Finally we get food, ask for bread again. My linguine with clams and my gf’s ravioli were terrible. My clams had sand in them and the ravioli tasted worse then FROZEN ravioli, nothing was fresh and the cheese was gross. And we had to go to the bar to get refills or coke. After we complained the manager took our bill,(i was thinking it would be discounted for the awful experience) but it came back with no adjustments, and when I asked she told me I needed to complain earlier in the meal to get a change in price. DONOTEATHERE!

I have good memories of eating here. Yes it’s a little expensive, and a little dark, and kind of old school, but I guess nostalgic feelings make me look back at my meals here growing up fondly. The osso bucco here is to die for. It is tender and finger lickin good. The Caesar salad is awesome and the wine selection is pretty nice.
