Being sick on a Hawaiian vacation is awful and I got some bad sinus congestion after landing on Waikiki. I usually take Levaquin(which requires a prescription) and/or Flonase(also requires a prescription) and had none on me. Dr. Dukelow hooked me up! I got my medicine before lunch and was in the water by early afternoon. Dr. Dukelow isn’t an ENT but he had seen enough cases like mine that he diagnosed my sinus congestion as well as any ENT ever has. He’s a super warm and funny person, too! After 5 minutes and a quick history, he pretty clearly understood what was blocked and the risks of it turning into an infection. He prescribed me Flonase(a steroid to fight the congestion) and Levaquin too just in case I got a full-blown infection. So, fastrack to two ‘scripts should be all good, right? Well… About 6 months later, another doctor(at UCLA’s student health clinic) yelled at me for taking Flonase(and took it away from me!!) because he claimed it was for allergies and not infections. I don’t have allergies but get bad sinus infections every year or so; Flonase helps clear things up somehow, but I guess it’s not actually good for bacteria. Flonase definitely helped me on this trip, but clearly doctors will disagree sometimes. If your condition is really complicated, you should probably see an ENT; Dr. Dukelow is more of a general practitioner. The visit to Dr. Dukelow’s office was about as quick and painless as I could imagine for a vacation doctor’s appointment. Dr. Dukelow’s office is tucked away in the Hyatt, so it’s a little hard to find, but I had only a 10-minute wait as a walk-in. Disclaimer: Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa(which houses Dr. Dukelow’s office) is a Unilocal Advertiser and I work for Unilocal

I went to this provider because he was on my insurance’s list of «preferred providers». I didn’t realize until I got there that he’s a hotel doctor. He does have other more regular patients as well, so I heard. He’s funny and has a great personality; for a doctor. I gave him two stars though because anytime I’ve needed more than a simple antibiotic prescription he and his assistants totally flake out! His assistant blew off scheduling my neck ultrasound until I told the doctor and then she finally did it. It showed I had an enlarged lymph node, which I knew, but it kept getting worse so I needed antibiotics, or at least someone to watch it. I called to try and get the results, a prescription, etc and left a message with his assistants, who again blew me off. The days kept going by. I kept getting more and more uncomfortable, and I don’t like having to call multiple times to get a response, who does? I went to someone else who gave me my ultrasound results, a prescription for antibiotics, ordered labs, and is watching me, all in just one day. It’s funny because in Dr. Dukelow’s office they have this sign that basically says«if you have a bad attitude you have to pay an extra ten dollars». They themselves have a really bad attitude when it comes to following up with their patients. I wonder if they’ll mail me ten dollars…
