Okay. This was probably the least«exotic Asian» named K-Bar that I went to last night. I’m actually a pub/dive bar guy myself but I figure I’d skip the hub-bub around downtown and hang out with some coworkers after a long shift. New Club Tahoe is very easy to find, as they’re along the Kapalama River and directly across the street from HCC. Very clean place. Decently sized, painted pink and with booths everywhere. Though I think Tahoe is geared more for the older crowd. We’re talking later 50’s on. Not only did the patrons look this age but the bartender and hostesses/waitresses as well. Though mama-san was nice enough to hook up our first round of brewskies for free. So this was our final stop, after a night of K-Bar hoppin’. The catch aside from cheap beers($ 2.50 domestics)? Karaōke! The highlight of the night was one of their regulars: a clean-cut Asian man with glasses and side comb, with slacks pulled up to his stomach sitting at the bar. He had his microphone planted vertically on the table, singing hands free. The best part was that he moved like Stevie Wonder, had a voice like Axl Rose and only did Beatles tunes. It was pretty trippy watching this guy wail on that mic. In fact, he was freekin’ great! Probably a math teacher/guidance counselor by day and from what I’ve seen, a vocal virtuoso by night. Kanpai Ojii-san! Kanpai! 3 stars New Club Tahoe on Dillingham Street
