The food was delicious and service was great! I ordered a half order of the eggs Benedict and it was a perfect serving for a Sunday morning breakfast. The hash browns were my fave because they were crispy! 10⁄10 recommend this place for breakfast

I’ve been here a total of three times and I can see myself coming again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way. The food is not the greatest but it isn’t the worst either. I think the food quality is dependent on your taste and what items you choose. The last time we went we got the butterfish teishoku for $ 25. For what we received in terms of quantity it was a good bargain. The sashimi was nice and fresh, but the butterfish was cooked first with the miso glazed brushed on… I’ve never had it this way and I decided I’m not a fan. On the second time we came I had a Belgian waffle combo, but the batter was spoiled so I couldn’t eat it. The service depends on who you get. The last time we went we had the best service since dining there. Our server actually checked on us! The other two times the server didn’t come back to refill water or ask how we were doing. Hence they didn’t know they gave me a spoiled waffle until I was done eating the rest of my food. They did however take it off, which I thought was nice of them. Overall it’s an okay place to eat and I prefer it over Zippys.

Since I was around the area, I decided to visit this restaurant for dinner. Seeing all the seniors and locals dining here, I felt like I was in old hawaii again, except for the 0lady’s loud cackle right next to us. I could even hear it when I went to the bathroom. It’s sad that a lot of restaurants that locals used to frequent shut down, but this one is still standing. French dip sandwich — 3 stars — for about $ 11, the sandwich was basic and not freshly made. The meat tasted pre-made and dry. However, I liked the au jus and crinkled fries that came with it. Fresh catch of the day — 3 stars — for about $ 16, the fish was overcooked, but at least fresh. Not a bad dish to order but the mashed potatoes tasted boxed. Overall, I don’t think I’ll frequent here because I’m trying to find restaurants that do not serve processed foods, which was ok here, but not to my preference. Service — 4 stars — the waitress was prompt and friendly. Lots of parking.

Dec. 2015 update: looks like there has been another ownership change to New Eagle. Prices have gone up a little and they are no longer serving their delicious biscuits. But for the quantity and overall quality of the offerings, this restaurant is still a great bargain for a clean, contemporary, yet still traditional meal in the local style family restaurant tradition. The mahimahi plate and the chopped steak plates continue to be favorites for us, and they are still offering coupons in the newspaper that will get you a free beverage and a choice of soup or salad with you meal. But even without the coupon, at $ 12 a plate for the mahimahi plate the restaurant is offering good value meals for their customers. For the early diners, you can get a variety of entrees for $ 10.50– an example being that mahimahi plate. Another good deal would be pork chops at $ 12.50 a plate, and that’s for two nice size pieces. Not super thick, but still filling, I prefer their porkchops over Likelike restaurant. The early dinner specials are available from 3 to 5 pm. What made this Dec. special was New Eagle Café offered free trolley rides to see the city lights in downtown Honolulu. The requirement was fair, minimum of four customers each, buying at least $ 10 worth of grub. You could make a reservation in advance or standby and hope you get lucky. The trolley rides were offered on three Mondays in December at three different times starting at 6:30pm. Mahalos to the owners of New Eagle Café for offering this Holiday treat to diners. Dats why Hawaii is special– tanks guys!!!

Had the swiss steak special. Portion size and flavor were both very good. If you are feeling like meat and potatoes kind of meal, this is a great choice. Got the complete meal option which adds a salad, drink, and dessert. Dessert was terrific! Warmed pear pie. Subtle spicing, flaky light crust and just really good. Highly recommend it and I’m not normally a pear kinda guy.

I came here on a dreary, traffic filled, Thursday afternoon. The debate going through my head was whether to drive home to eat or eat in town and then drive home. Nimitz seemed pretty horrible, so I decided to use my LivingSocial or Groupon and enjoy some dinner. I hadn’t been here since I was an elementary school kid and took half an hour to figure out what to eat. Back in the day I remember being rewarded for my good behavior with some sherbet. I decided on the Kalua Turkey sandwich with soup($ 10.95). The turkey was served on your normal white bread slices with two slices of tomato lettuce and a pickle spear. The shredded turkey was quite dry and during the meal, it was difficult keeping the turkey from spilling out of the bread slices onto the plate. The french fries consisted of the Ore ida variety you used to get in elementary school lunch. At least they weren’t over salted. The soup of the day was chicken curry soup. The soup was hearty and filling with chicken chunks and vegetables. The other highlight of my gluttonous feast was a fried oyster($ 3.75) and a shrimp tempura($ 2.75). The oyster was about 3 inches long, surprisinly moist and plump. The shrimp tempura was not your typical Zippy’s catering tempura. The breading was nice and crisp and well fried. Like I said, the turkey sandwich was very unimpressive. The curry soup, oyster, and shrimp tempura saved the meal. Sadly I wasn’t rewarded with a scoop of orange sherbet like back in elementary school. Oh well. Maybe next time.

My grandfather was craving prime rib and jello cream cheese squares so off we went to Eagles again. And they had that coupon in the dining out section which my grandmother always clips, and LOL its Monday so kids eat free! Hey Chinese love good deals! Prime rib was great and my mom tried a different dish Monday night special Ox Tail Stew. I was pleasantly surprised it was tasty and it was generous in size, I counted(5) big pieces of oxtail in there! It looks from the outside like regular stew but this is flavored differently you can taste a bit of 5 spice in there, it was food and the ox tails were pretty big. My son ordered a cream cheese square for dessert but she brought us a banana cream cheese square, holy cow! Very good! Haven’t tried that ever and I’m glad she brought it out by mistake. Now I’m torn between the jello cream cheese square, pumpkin crunch, banana cream cheese square, pear pie and coconut pie. So many good desserts here. It’s pretty sad they no longer have biscuit nights I thought that was such a simple but sweet gesture for patrons. But I’ll still come back, various food and consistency and large portions. And fabulous desserts!

This is one of our regular spots when we want good olé diner food. My regular order is the liver and onions cooked medium with rice and vegetables. This is one of the last four or five places you can still get this old time classic. For $ 4 more you can make it a complete meal which includes soup or salad, soft drink, and dessert. We started off as usual with an order of man doo, and tempura mushrooms. Both of which are extremely hot when served so be careful. I find their food tasty but generally have to add a little salt to my liking. I guess they figure it’s easier to add it at the table than to try and take it out. My wife had the prime rib. Surprisingly good to most first timers who may not expect it at a diner location. For dessert I always get the banana pie. This is one of the last places you can still get a double crust banana pie. Deliciousj

So my family came here for dinner last week. We had pretty hefty appetites so we took our seats and quickly scanned the menu. We were waited on quickly since the place was pretty empty. Our server was very friendly. I decided on trying out the Seafood Stew with brown rice that was on the daily specials menu. We also ordered garlic chicken, chicken katsu and a side of sashimi and fried mandoo. To be honest, I wasn’t impressed with the stew. I had to load it with s&p and hit it with some hot sauce and I still couldn’t finish it. The gravy was clumpy and lacking in flavor and the brown rice was hard and dry. My bf liked the garlic chicken and my son liked his chicken katsu though. The katsu was served as a full Japanese style meal complete with miso soup. The sashimi was great and the mandoo was huge! Both were very tasty as well. Since I didn’t finish my stew I decided on ordering dessert. I chose the pumpkin crunch. Despite my boys initially passing on any dessert, they sure did attack my pumpkin crunch when it came out. It’s a good thing it was a pretty good sized slice and I at least got in two bites. Needless to say, it was delicious! So everything but the seafood stew got a thumbs up for us. We’re not ruling this place out, we’ll just explore the menu more next time we’re here.

Gonna be truthful and say here that I haven’t given a three star rating in a while… As the three stars indicate, this place was meh, okayish. I had the Wednesday special of the Kim Chee fried rice with teri chicken for 13 bucks. It would have been good if it was so, as they say in Japanese, «koge». The three chicken slabs I received were pretty charred, and I basically had a side of carcinogen to go with my meal. One part of my chicken was… crunchy, from all that heat. Besides that overcooked teri chicken, the Kim cheese fried rice balanced nicely, making up slightly for the burntedness, as I like to call it, from that infamous teri chicken. It was flavorful, nothing mindblowing, but very much made with love. It was like a home cooked meal(except for the burnt part – sorry, can’t get over that right now. Still vivid in my memory.) It was a good amount of food though as I took home leftovers for home lunch the next day. I gave this place three stars because the waitstaff was very nice and prompt with everything we requested. I can request that. Our waitress single handedly saved this place from getting 2 stars!

Hawaii is running out of coffee shop style restaurants that serve good, solid local food. So many of the long time local establishments have shuttered, including Kenny’s in Kalihi and Flamingo’s in Pearl City – both within the same month. It’s a shame. Thank goodness New Eagle Café is still around and by the looks of the crowd, hopefully it will continue to be around for a long time. New Eagle Café has an extensive menu that includes a lot of local favorites and Prime Rib! My favorite here is the Hawaiian Chopped Steak that comes on a sizzling platter. The meat is tender and it is loaded with a ton of vegetables. Their sandwiches are delicious too with items such as Patty Melt, Tuna Melt, and Clubhouse along with French Dip and Prime Rib sandwiches. There are also local favorites, such as Oxtail Soup, Saimin, and even Mandoo Min, which is delicious! The menu also includes Japanese teishoku dinners. For those with kiddies, New Eagle Café also offers a keiki menu for kids 10 and under. Each meal includes a drink and dessert. Entrees include beef teriyaki, saimin, macaroni and cheese, and chicken yakitori, to name a few. There is bound to be something on the menu for even the pickiest eater. My little nephew loved the saimin here! Oh and wait… there’s more! The desserts here are to die for! This place has the most extensive list of pies available! Apple, coconut, banana, jello cream, peach, pear, and my favorite(and so hard to find) – APRICOT! New Eagle Café is a great place to take the whole family(young and old) for a meal without having to break the piggy bank. Reservations are available and probably suggested for parties of 6 persons or more. Parking is available in the front or in the parking garage located in the back of the building front. This place is always busy, so you might need to wait for a table. Trust me though, the wait is worth it!

I frequently come here for the consistent daily specials that are delicious. Tuesday and Sundays are my favorite days here. Sundays mainly because whenever I have a turkey, gravy, stuffing, and mash craving I’d go there and Tuesday is because its so convenient since its right by Dole Theaters($ 6 Tuesday) and you can grab some good food before or after the movies. The turkey here are much better than the other places that sometimes serve turkey outside of Thanksgiving. You can go Anna Millers or Zippy’s for turkey plates but New Eagle Café has much, much, better turkey. The other dish that I love so much here is the sweet and sour spareribs. It’s made Hawaiian style and has my favorite fruit, pineapple! Again, even this dish is better than its competitors that serve it. One reason why I didn’t give it 5 stars though is the service can be quite slow, especially on Sundays when it is very busy. Diners are quickly disappearing in Honolulu and I really hope New Eagle will continue to exist for a while. It’s still my go to place if I want turkey or if I’m really hungry after or before movies!

Came in for lunch before an appointment. It wasn’t overly busy and we were seated right away. Of course my daughter first thing needs to go potty. The restroom is so nasty. Toilet paper everywhere and very lack of being cleaned. Sit and our order is taken very quickly. I ordered the Pier 34 which is Mahi Mahi, avocado, tomato and alfalfa sprouts. My food comes out very quickly, as a matter of fact, first before my kids. They had ordered wings and the cheeseburgers sliders. I wait because I won’t eat without my kids getting their food too. So the burgers come out… she’s little and hungry don’t want our food to get any colder so we start. We finish our meals and my sons chicken finally comes out. No apology no care and just rushed through. Doesn’t check on us once within our meal. Waitress was pushy type, rude and rushed like you aren’t even there. Food wasn’t good either, kids said its gross and I can’t say I was impressed either. Kids even said the guava juice tastes funny. The water was murky, see photo. The dessert that came with the kids meal we had to skip because she took so long. She nicely did put it in a cup to go though, that’s the only reason for the extra star here. This was our first and last time here.

«From the ashes of disaster grow the roses of success!» After my original 1 star review on this location and the follow-up one star review I thought my friends and I were done with this place for good, I wasn’t planning on coming back after the second time we came. Luckily we came back here for fathers day and again just recently for a meeting with my parents friends. I’m not quite sure what changed systematically around here but the service is fast, the servers are personable and quick on the draw, they don’t let people in through the back doors anymore so there is no one trying to press through the tables and chairs to get to the hostess at the front of house, the place is cleaner and seems brighter now. We received better service last night while the restaurant was packed to the walls than we received when we were the only ones there when I wrote my first review. The gum chewing and phone using by the staff is gone as well. I can now give New Eagle café my seal of approval, parking might still be a pain but it’s worth it now.

Poor decision to go here and poor decision to not walk out while waiting 20 minutes to have our order taken(the place was slow, no excuse for the wait) My bf wanted to eat here, I think that he may have come here when he used to drink. The spaghetti tasted like it came out of a can and the noodles were beyond soft. I don’t want to trash talk the place so I’ll just say that I won’t be returning.

My family and my fave«Sunday after church» breakfast/brunch go to place. This review is for their breakfast ONLY. I love love love their waffles which for some reasons tastes different compared to other breakfast places I have been to. I think their prices are also very reasonable. My parents always get the Japanese Breakfast which consists of miso butterfish, miso soup, rice, and salad. I have tried that as well and was worth it if you feel like eating something light. My sister mostly gets the omelets and loco moco which she is satisfied as well. The workers are very friendly and nice(I think they notice my family a lot too that’s why lol) Can’t go wrong with eating breakfast here! And the variety they provide! PS there is new management which is why the place got fixed up and they are more organized as well as their menu/recipes improvement. LOVEEAGLECAFE!

Asian American fusion food… I believe. It’s a big restaurant, and it was packed. Luckily we got a table. Sat down and looked at the menu. Decided to order the pork cutlet, gravy on the side with my choice of brown rice. My bf ordered the teriyaki ribeye that comes with mixed veggies and brown rice. The pork cutlet was yammy. I didn’t like the gravy. too salty. The teriyaki rib eye was soft and tender. My bf liked the sauce. i thought it was a little bit on the sweet side. Service was ok. When my bf was finishing his veggies, the lady instantly took his plate away. The lady was totally rushing us out. Well, now I can say I tried this place. Probably will not return. Nothing special or amazing.

The food here is ok. It’s nothing to write home about, typical diner food. The hubby got the garlic chicken and I had the fried oyster. Both meals came with a starch and hot vegetables. We both chose the mash potatoes with gravy. The gravy was a little on the salty side. The garlic chicken wasn’t bad. When they brought out my plate of fried oysters, there were three pieces on the plate. However, it was the huge oysters and not the little ones that other places serve. They oysters were meaty, yummy and fried to perfection. My friend had ordered their lobster salad and told me about it. That’s what I wanted to get originally. I didn’t see it on their menu so I asked our waitress about it. She says to me in a condescending tone,“You don’t see it on the menu, do you?” I wanted to tell her that restaurants have specials all the time that aren’t on the menu. Other than that, she was ok. I’m going to chalk it up to her having a bad day. I’ve worked in restaurants before so I know how it is.

The classic family friendly dinner lives on at New Eagel Café. Here you can still get a complete meal with a drink, side, roll and dessert for a few dollars more. Make sure you come on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays or Sundays from 6 — 8 pm for the fresh biscuits. They bring them right to your table – smeared with butter and jam, they were the highlight of our dinner. We tried a Chicken Caesar Salad, the Lamb Curry, and the Pier 38 Sandwich(Egg-Battered Mahi, Avocado, and Sprouts) with Fries. Portion wise, everything is huge, two lighter eaters should share. The salad was not a traditional caesar, and had tomato, cucumber, and carrots. The sandwich was hot, not fishy, and pretty tasty with the tartar sauce. The lamb in the lamb curry was tender enough, but the curry tasted like instant Japanese powder. Free parking, good for big families, BYOB with a corkage fee. If you go you will definitely leave full.
