There are many good doctors in this office– somewhere between 10 and 15 oncologists work out of this office, I believe(seems like a oncological monopoly of sorts: o) My doctor there and I did not click. So, I left. Now my current oncologist, also connected to Queens, is moving back to the mainland(you gotta be kidding me). So, I may end up back at Oncare Hawaii, but with a different doctor. So, I would give my doctor a 1 star at this place. No. I don’t want to say who he/she is as others like this doctor very much. This doctor was very knowledgeable but his/her demeanor and attitude toward me at times, was simply rude and somewhat hostile and/or aggressive, believe it or not. No thanks. I got cancer. Don’t need that kine crap. But, I will say that the support staff MORE than makes up for the not so nice doctor I had. The support staff is absolutely WONDERFUL here. I give them a 5 Star + !!! That averages out to 2.5 stars over all. So, because of the support staff EXCEEDING5 stars, I round it up to 3 stars. So, do your homework here. I believe they are all good doctors to chose from here– some fantastic, some not so much. All the best in your search and treatment.

I was surprised to see Oncare on Unilocal… the first review seemed to paint a good picture but I would like to temper that a bit. My mom was diagnosed with a very rare form of leukemia and eventually died within 12 – 14 months of diagnosis. I think her doctor, Carl Higuchi, could have been more proactive with her case. All of her appointments with him seemed very hurried and I wonder whether his case heavy case load affected the amount of time he was able to spend with her. Granted, my mom was not the type to second guess her doctor and she did not want to get a second opinion.(I understand that this is her own preference and a doctor cannot be blamed for this). He started her on chemo within only two months before her death — chemo could possibly have been started eariler(but whom am I to say, I’m not the doctor, I know) She was later taken off chemo as her condition deteriorated rapidly — swollen legs, exhaustion and feeling cold and feverish all the time. She was off chemo for about two weeks when she was admited to the hospital due to septic shock after she developed an infection, either due to leukemia or due to chemo. She never left the hospital. Dr. Higuchi is a very smart guy but tends to speak over you, not because he means to, just becuase he can’t help it. He just cannot speak in laymens terms. Please be aware of this. Also, he never attempted to see the family while my mom was in the hospital because he wanted to let the ICU doctors take over her care. I understand this but it would have been nice to see him there so he could answer any questions. So, in general, the advice here is a common sense one… take control of your medical situation — ask quesitons, ask for a second opinion and ask family or a good friend to help you through it. As for Dr. Higuchi of Oncare, just understand his style and keep him accountable.

It seems a bit depressing to give a 5-star«Woohoo! As good as it gets!» rating for a medical office that treats cancer patients, but then again so is being diagnosed with cancer. But if you or anyone you know is looking for an Oncologist, check out Oncare. Luckily we were referred here by the Queen’s Emergency staff. Upon first registering at Oncare, we were assigned to Dr. Michelle Miyashiro and sometimes when she isn’t available, we see Dr. Jonathan Cho. These two doctors are the best! What we love about them is the fact that they are very sincere and it shows, works with the patients and their families, and they LISTEN! What’s great is that if the doctor’s practice these traits, you can also see the reflection in the staff’s personalities as well. Oncare offers a full range of all in one place services that’s essential for the Oncologists to properly treat their patients without having us rush from place to place. They have an in-office lab that provides instant blood work results for your upcoming doctor’s visit that day and the chemotherapy room is also in the same office.
