I attend Yin, Nidra, Gentle Flow, and Hatha yoga classes at Open Space Yoga in Chinatown, and would not hesitate to recommend this beautiful yoga studio. As a senior, I am very grateful to Open Space for offering classes which I can do, and which have become an indispensable part of my health regimen. I especially appreciate the careful instructions and suggestions for asana modifications so that I can confidently avoid injury.

This was a wierd experience for me. I was in town from LA visiting a friend in Oahu. He had to work some of the days I was in town so I took a ton of yoga. This was the only yoga experience I had in Oahu that was not very positive. Everywhere else I took class the teacher introduced themselves and communicated where the studio bathroom, cubbies were, etc. — this being the exception. It was raining this particular morning but I arrived early in case of any paperwork I might need to fill out. The yoga instructor, Jaime arrived just after class was supposed to start. There were 3 of us waiting outside but like I said, it was raining so that’s probably why she was delayed. We followed her in and I was trying to figure where the bathroom and studio were when another student showed me. I was so grateful! I then tried to tell Jaime that I would like to use my Unilocal checkin to get the deal on the drop in when she told me that«wasn’t in her book» so I didn’t want to argue with her but it was plain as day on Unilocal,on my phonesi I showed her but she just shrugged & flipped threw some binder. I asked her if she wanted us to figure it out after class since it was getting late and class was supposed to have begun already. She said no b/c she had to leave right away afterwards. I finally just paid the full drop in amt fuming inside. It was such a horrible way to begin a yoga class. I spent the entire class trying to let it go & move on but I was so frustrated. Maybe she was having a bad day but she didn’t smile once beginning to end of class and didn’t look at the class while she was teaching just seemed really focussed on what her body was doing. Btw this was a yin class. I don’t have much experience with yin yoga so who knows maybe everyone including the instructor just«goes within» and that’s what that’s all about. I don’t know but when I gave my friend the full report on all the studios I checked out, I regretably had to tell him about my bummer experience here. I’m sure it was probably just an off day or something and classes/instructors are actually pretty great here but I just felt this should be shared.

OPENSPACEYOGA @25N. HOTELSTREET: Opened at this location 08÷02÷15, or should I say moved from Pauahi Street. Located between Nuuanu and Smith St., across from Manifest. If you are coming from Nuuanu, the entrance is after Brown’s Shoe Repair, Maria Bonita and a bar. Go upstairs, and the door is on your right. This is where MoonStruckYogi used to be. I have been enjoying their newly added morning classes. Jaime Schrack’s Yin style and David Heiss’s Kundalini style are new to me but feel at home as Yin reminds me of qi gong, and Kundalini involves a lot of breathing exercises that I am used to. I was away from this studio for a while, and received a welcome back $ 40.00 for 30 days deal! I love Open Space Yoga as they offer a lot of different styles of Yoga. Now they have 3 locations on this island, the original Monsarrat Ave, China Town Hotel St, and Haleiwa.
