if i’m hanging out at the beach and i crave sushi, and i’m near here, i’ll stop by run for some quick kaitenzushi. it’s cheap and edible. i would not bring people here who are not local and who i want to impress, though.

This place is dirt cheap as far as sushi joints go. But like many dirt cheap sushi joints, it’s not that great. I definitely wouldn’t look to Run Sushi if I were hungry for a yummy spider roll, but would come here if I were famish and could only find coins beneath the sofa cushions. BTW, I’m sure no one else noticed, but so far only Bay Area people have reviewed this place(half of whom are from San Francisco). This makes me wonder if cheap sushi is just a Bay Area thing and we just flock to these places when we’re abroad, or if Hawaii is just a destination for Bay Area folks?

This place was pretty cheap compared to the restaurants around it. It’s a comfy and cozy spot to chill at during breaks from the beach. The food isn’t that great. The curry was runny and I didn’t dare try the sushi, but they served healthy portions and it was close to the shore. They have some good deals on beer though and that was among the reasons we kept going back.

Here’s your basic sushi joint with decent service, with a particularly nice ocean view if you dine outside. There are plenty of other sushi stops along the main strip, but we felt like landing on the first one that didn’t look foreboding. The music they chose was rather goofy, but honestly it didn’t matter much since we chose an outdoor table. The sashimi was quite satisfying for its price, and most everything else on the menu left a small footprint across our wallets. Yum, that tasted good, now it’s time to coat the throat with mochi. They only had three flavors of mochi, but it’s a great way to top off the meal if you’re not lactose intolerant!

Went here for dinner, and ordered the spicy tuna roll, miso soup, and teriyaki rice bowl as a baseline test for Run. These simple menu items are hard to mess up, but Restaurant Run manages to do so. The spicy tuna rolls must have been made earlier in the day because the rice was dried out and the tuna wasn’t good. The miso soup didn’t smell like miso soup, and I didn’t finish it because I was turned off by its smell. And the teriyaki chicken bowl … the chicken was bland and tasted like it was pan fried. Even the teriyaki sauce was bland. Three strikes for three simple dishes. Skip this place. I’d recommend walking a few blocks toward the Hyatt, and eat at Furusato Japanese Restaurant where the food quality is excellent.

Cheap for Waikiki. I didn’t do the sushi boat. Ordered from the menu and the sushi was all good. Drank a lot of cheap beer here during happy hour.

Certainly not fine cuisine. Not even the best sushi ever. But I cant help but love this place. Slow jams on the speakers, cheap eats and the choice of sitting at the sushi bar and slowly being hypnotized by the conveyor belt or grabbing a table outside and people watching right next to the beach. Cheap happy hour drafts. Run, don’t walk.
