Shimizu Voice

My boyfriend and I got a sweet deal for 4×30 min voice lessons with Craig. We were just looking to be decent at karaōke and do something fun together.
Craig is amazing! His coaching is so professional and so spot-​on, the difference in our singing quality could be detected within the 30 min of our voice lesson! Of course, it takes practice to perfect these techniques (which we weren’t the best at), but Craig just knows exactly what you need to help you.
Craig covers techniques to fill out our voices, breathe efficiently, and even physical exercises to prepare the body for singing. He also has some videos on YouTube worth checking out.
Takes a lot of practice, but Craig is so worth it! Craig is soooo nice, positive, and sincere — that alone makes him a great coach. But add on the fact that results are there, and the rest is history. Check him out and see if he has any sweet deals going on. His studio is located upstairs of the Palama Market in the Kalihi area on King St.

My daughter started taking lessons from Craig last July after not being selected to move forward for the Hawaii Stars Finals. I then wanted to find a coach that could help refine her natural abilities.
I did a Google search for the best voice coach in Honolulu and Shimizu Voice came up. He took my daughter in and taught her how to sing without straining her voice in no time.
He later taught her various techniques which enabled her to not only sound better, but to also build her confidence as well.
She auditioned for Hawaii Stars once again this year. Craig created a modified rendition of «Lovin You» by Minnie Riperton for Abriana. She performed that version and became the 2015 Hawaii Stars Keiki Champion.
In one year’s time, Craig transformed her from a good singer to a singer who is now reaching her full potential!

I have been singing (wailing power rocknroll type singing) for years and performing on tours with back to back performances that have lasted as long as a month. I was NEVER professionally trained. After years of wear and tear on the vocals I noticed it was becoming harder to hit notes with the confidence and strength that I could before. I also noticed my vocals and throat were sore and felt ragged and raw after performing. I was losing my voice more often. Worried I might lose my singing capabilities altogether I signed up for a lesson from Mr. Shimizu. He pointed out all the areas off tension and strain that shouldn’t be there when you are singing. He taught me how to breathe properly and how to let my breath carry out my notes without forcing it through tension. I really had no idea how much my bad singing habits were hurting my voice. After practicing my newly learned technique I saw a HUGE improvement in all areas of my singing. Most importantly… it didn’t hurt to sing anymore. Thank You Mr. Shimizu! We just finished another round of back to back rehearsals and touring and my vocals and throat remained happy and healthy. I got my confidence back vocally which makes a big difference in the performance as well. I am so appreciative!

This review is on Craig Shimizu’s Voice Studio. My granddaughter took 2 lessons with Craig Shimizu recently. I felt that she could sing but somehow was lacking in projection and shyness (something was missing to push her forward). Craig accommodated by listening to her singing and could recognize her talent and could help. I am so thankful and impressed with his style of teaching that my granddaughter could understand all he said. Just two lessons made such an impact on her. My daughter has been taking lessons from Craig for several years. This is one of the few activities that she has begged to continue (we’ve gone through all the sports, etc. which she has tried, but ultimately stopped…) — I believe a large part of our longevity is that Craig is very gentle and patient with young kids. He doesn’t pressure them, but makes it fun. My daughter loves the singing recital/​shows; performing on stage for about 200 people, complete with stage sound system, lights, etc. It is quite a production!

Craig Shimizu is an extraordinarily talented teacher. I had taken voice lessons my entire life back in the states and even now, as an adult, I learn something new during each lesson with Craig. No goal is set too high with Craig. If you are willing to put in time and effort he will get you where you want to be. I am hitting notes that I could never hit before and my entire voice has shifted in a new and powerful direction thanks to Shimizu Voice. I would recommend this studio to anyone of all ages no matter how experienced or inexperienced.

We enrolled our grand daughter in Shimizu Voice last March and are really glad we chose this studio. Our granddaughter is a shy 11 year old elementary student and we were surprised that she asked for singing lessons as a birthday gift. We were even more surprised and delighted when we saw her on stage at her first recital a few months later. We are pleased to see the confidence she is developing through these lessons. I came across Craig Shimizu in a very unconventional way as my mother was gravely ill and I happened to be taking a lunch break at a nearby restaurant near the hospital. In that moment of propinquity, I met a former teaching friend who gave me the referral which was the start of my journey to study voice.
Twelve years have passed and through Shimizu Sensei’s teaching, guidance, coaching and encouragement, I have been enabled to surpass expectations for myself. Today, I have grown and developed as an amateur singer to include genres of Japanese Enka, Filipino Kundiman, Hawaiian, Broadway show tunes, jazz, pop and R & B.
The bi-​annual recitals of the studio have allowed me to set goals to keep transcending as a singer and also to train for stage presence and showmanship.
The big payoff for me is that singing has increased my confidence and provides therapy from daily stressors and keeps me focused and happy. Thanks to Shimizu Sensei!

Craig is an extremely talented person who is kind, patient, knowledgable and most of all experienced. His history as a performer in addition to his skills learned from studying voice and furthering his education make him one of the best vocal coaches in the state.
It isn’t a chore to go to voice lessons with him, it’s fun and something to look forward to. His techniques are simple and easy to understand and his approach is sincere and to the point.

Craig Shimizu is a truly amazing teacher. His patience and encouragement are unending. He has taught me so much about the science behind singing. I learn something new about myself and my voice at every lesson. It’s only been a few months, but my voice and confidence has skyrocketed. I went from thinking I might be tone deaf, to looking forward to being able to sing in front of people one day. Craig is one of the most effective an thoughtful teachers I have met.

His teachings trough out my years has inspired me to pursue singing and enhance my ability that God has given me. After just the first month of training, Craig completely transformed my voice! I’ve continued my training for two and a half years now.
