YOUKNOWYOU’REGETTINGOLDERWHEN… You need a magnifying glass to read the headlines of a newspaper. Your little black book contains only names ending in M.D. You feel romantic… your wife is naked… you turn off the lights… ZZzzzzz! You find yourself buying plate lunches at Taste of Times Beretania at least three days a week. The signs are there. I’ve come to the realization that I’m getting old. This eye opening revelation came to me because this senior couple I know, needed a ride and asked me to take them to fill a prescription and buy oven roasted turkey tails and a roast turkey plate lunch at the Times Beretania. Seniors love turkey, turkey tails and turkey neck soup because they think eating turkey; is eating healthy. I knew Times had a pharmacy but I never knew that Times served plate lunches; and sold turkey tails [1]. At the Ewa-makai corner of the store is a place called«Taste of Times — The Kitchen». The Kitchen opens for lunch at 11:00 A.M. and the person I saw standing in the front of the line was a senior about 70 years of age. He was patiently waiting for The Kitchen to open; so that he could place his order for the roast turkey lunch — $ 5.99. I scan the line and there are a couple of fifty something year olds, a sixty something year old, a forty something year old and then my senior couple friends and me were at the end. Most of the seniors in line ordered the roast turkey. The forty year old ordered the Hawaiian Plate(a Friday special). For me I ordered the Furikake Salmon because I didn’t realize at the time that I was that old. All of the plate lunches include your choice of three sides and a 22 ounce drink. The sides include white rice, brown rice, potato mac salad, garlic mashed potatoes, potato wedges, steamed mixed vegetables, toss salad and Okinawan sweet potato. They serve the same sides everyday. I can understand why my senior friends wanted to get the roast turkey. Seniors have an appreciation for a healthy meals that includes a drink for $ 5.99. I can understand why there were so many seniors standing in line. I’ve visited Taste of Times — The Kitchen many times since. I know I’m getting old because you can add me to the list of seniors that orders the roast turkey on Friday’s. I love it! Last Friday, I got there at 10:53 A.M. and was the second one in line. On Thursday I bought the Grilled Sterling Silver Steak. A real bargain. The Sterling Silver steak they grill is a top tier, choice, grain-fed beef with high marbling; wet aged for 14 days before it hits the grill. My steak was sliced against the grain, medium well, juicy, tender and had a great taste because of the Taste of Times special seasoning. The cost — $ 7.99. This is where all the seniors reading this review will drop their jaws and stand up and cheer. The Kitchen at Beretania is a great take-out food place; no matter what your age. Take a look at their menu. Young people will probably order the Large Grilled Sterling Steak on Thursdays. ONEPOUND of steak with the three sides and drink for $ 10.99. This is where all the young people reading this review will scream and jump for joy. I tried and loved the Grilled Guava Spareribs, the Grilled Rosemary Chicken Breast, the Furikake Salmon and the Roast Beef which all come with choice of three sides and a 22 ounce drink at this particular Taste of Times. This where you can see how happy you can be after eating food prepared by the Taste of Times — The Kitchen. [1] On my friends recommendation I bought the turkey tails. Barbeque taste, lots of meat and I have to say that they were some real great pieces of ass. WHATOLDPEOPLEKNOW … Young people are smarter than old people. Old people are wiser than young people. Never judge an eating place by what it looks like. Food is about taste and value. Seniors are in the front of the line because«Age before beauty.» If you see a lot of seniors standing in line at a place like Taste of Times — The Kitchen remember: Old people are wiser than young people; food is about taste and value; «Age before beauty»; and if you are standing in the back of me, be warned, old people fart a lot.
