My dad treated us to Tsukiji’s for my mom’s birthday. We went around 5pm to avoid the Pro Bowl traffic. The parking lot outside had a lot of spaces which was awesome. Dinner service starts at 5pm and we got there a few minutes after 5 and pretty much had the whole place to ourselves. The whole mall seemed to be not busy which is unusual. We were greeted right away and much to my dad’s delight, they offer senior citizen and kamaaina discount. There was a wide range of sushi and oriental based dishes. The prime rib was very good but my favorite was the teppanyaki. You put what you want on a plate and a chef grills it in garlic butter and spices in front of you. I asked for medium rare steak and kalbi and it came out perfect. My mom and I were sad to see that the shave ice machine is no longer there. Now there is a boring ice cream machine. I really enjoyed the shave ice last time I was here a few years ago. We left very full and my parents got their money’s worth. I would come back here if my dad treats us again. Dinner service is about $ 40 a person.

All you can eat crab legs(dinner), sashimi, sushi, and steak, plus soups, salads, desserts, and more — a buffet of unusually good quality. How is that only 2.5 stars? For me, it boils down to value. Dinner is currently $ 40 – 51, Lunch $ 26 – 34. The actual price depends on day of the week, which meal(lunch vs. dinner), age(senior discount!), and whether or not you are a Hawaii resident(Kama’aina discount). But regardless, it’s not cheap, which means two things: 1) It has to be really good to justify the expense. I think this is a 50 – 50; some may think it worth the price, others may not. I’ve liked much of what I’ve eaten here, but not enough to feel good about shelling out that kind of cash. 2) It should be compared to other similarly priced dining experiences, not to the average buffet. So the fact that it is, indeed, a high quality buffet does little for me. I’m comparing it to what I could have gotten instead for the same money, and on that front, I think they suffer. The food quality is good for a buffet, but not for a $ 50+ meal. And predictably, the ambience is nothing special; it’s a buffet, so it majors on food quantity, but it’s not especially intimate, romantic, or ‘nice.’ Whether or not that fits the bill for a special occasion depends on what you care about, but in my book, there are better options. You can find the current menu and pricing at . The restaurant is in the Ala Moana mall, where parking is free but a hassle during peak hours. Service was fine. I’m told the alcohol selection is good, though as a teetotaler, that’s never much of an attraction for me.

Tsukiji Restaurant bad experience! Celebrated our annual get together at Tsukiji Restaurant last night, first seating at 5 pm and 10 minutes later I went to the restroom to wash my hands. There was toilet paper all over the ground, trash can was overflowing, used paper towels on the basin and it reeked of urine. The two soap dispensers were empty and a toilet was not flushed. Gross, gross, gross!!! I complained and expected them to clean the restroom. Went in 45 minutes later and it was still stinky. I had to use the public restroom outside and it was much cleaner. I was beyond disgusted and very disappointed. Entered the establishment and walked past the buffet line and it looked delicious. After my horrible experience in the restroom, the food didn’t look as appealing. For almost $ 50 per person(tax and tip included), you would think they can clean their restrooms BEFORE starting their dinner shift. The crab legs we bland and meat had a grey tinge color. It looked and tasted old. Our party was very disappointed.

Always a fantastic variety of Japanese and other local dishes. Sushi, hot entrees, salads, ramen and udon, tempura, and desserts. There’s something to please everyone’s palates.

Went here for my girlfriend’s wedding anniversary. I wasn’t expecting much, but the service was spectacular. We received a warm, personal greeting from the staff who acknowledged my girlfriend’s parents for their wedding anniversary. We were seated at the table with complimentary bottle of red wine(with a congratulatory message written on the bottle). Our waiter was very attentive and Tyler, the Manager, often checked up on us to see if we were okay. The food at the restuarant has greatly improved in my opinion since produce and sushi seem to be more fresh than in the past. Great service from the staff member who cooks the steak/kalbi and also great service from the slim gentleman who was at the carving station for the prime rib. Tsukiji has upped their game.

This was my FIRSTTIME at TSUKIJI. We came here on new years day. They had two different lines. Which shows walk-ins and reservation. They did awesome on handling that part since they had to take people with reservations first. They were able to seat everyone who was waiting in a timely manner. The reason for my one star rating was when it came to grabbing food. The LINES were obviously LONG and i was not expecting that. we were going to take turns grabbing food but standing in line i had to take two plates so it saves me for my second trip and tell my family that the line is long and that i want to know what they want so i can just grab it for them. Thats how bad the experience was about to go. While waiting in line, you can see me just eating my food from the sushi line. As i wait I was able to use the same plate to grab food from the steak line that i was standing in. On the steak line there were other entries which was miso soup, rice, breakfast items, curry noodles, mushroom & zucchini, salt pepper shrimp, salads they looked good but when i seen it on the prep table in tubs just sitting on the counter, which had the entrée’s inside them with no warmers or anything that heats it up DISGUSTEDME. At least put it in the back or hide it i didn’t want to see it being refilled in front of me, at least change the pan as well instead of refilling it cause the food is not getting hot. plus when you grab them from the pan with the heating source below it, the food was cold not warm but already cold. They need to have the pan covered because the heating source is only heating the bottom of the pan and not the top. They also need to change the pan! The sushi line wasn’t that bad. It was the Steak line, reason why is because it needs to be cooked before customers can receive it. thats where the line was holding up everything. but people were finding out the long line was just the steak so far later on. so i waited a while and the chef cooking the steak was friendly. but when i asked for MEDIUMRARE my steak was practically WELLDONE which made my steak chewy than tender. I didnt want to eat it since it was CHEWY so it was a WASTE of my time WAITING in LINE! so i just let the server take it away, and did not want to go back and wait for another one since the line got longer. Then there was another line where you can get tempura, crab, ramen etc. which the tempura station was gone about only 2 – 3 pieces left. i didn’t understand why the steamed fish was all the way at the end which it wasn’t refilled at all there was only 2 small pieces left so i just took one because the guy behind me looked like he wanted one, which in fact he took the last piece that i had left for him. The dessert was the best! No LINES or issues. favorite one was the haupia chocolate. They should of had it under control by having a staff member make another line or to have it to where if your not grabbing steak they should be able to just grab everything else. This was super frustrating especially when we have a time LIMIT to eat. Servers did well at refilling and collecting our empty plate which was a plus! Bathroom was sorta clean it just had a foul smell and the stall i used was dirty and has paper toilet tissues on the ground. Overall for the food i liked the sushi since its fresh! other entrée’s a little disappointing. With all my friends telling me to come here this was the experience i was not expecting, i can understand that it was busy but its always possible to deliver.

Went there on new years eve for lunch. They were upcharging to $ 35 per person. The selection was pretty pathetic. Service was unbelievably slow, it took a half hour for four drinks. There was 5 types of fish sushi on the line and it certainly was not fresh. Total waste of money. Never going back.

It was a night of GOOD friends, GOOD company, GOOD drinks, GOOD pupus, GOOD prices, GOOD service and a GOOD Happy Hour!(Note: review is based on happy hour in the bar section of the restaurant) I had a fun evening at Tsukiji’s! It was the perfect outing after a BAD, BAD, BAD day at work!!! Thank you, friends and Tsukiji’s for ending my day with a BANG!!! I needed that! Anyway, there were eleven of us that attended this gathering. My husband and I showed up just little after 5:30 p.m. some of our friends were there already. The moment we arrived, we were greeted by a young gentlemen. He asked for our drink order and quickly came back with it. As our other friends stumbled in, the waiter was there to take their drink orders right away. Talk about good service. He was pretty, «On it!» Yummy pupus accompanied our cocktails for the evening. Since it was happy hour(from 4:00 — 8:00pm) the pupus were half off. Omg!!! What a deal… What a steal! The pupus were A… M…A…zing and GIGANTIC portions! I’m getting hungry thinking about it. Here is the run down on our pupus: Spicy tuna with deep fried won ton chips– the tuna had the right amount of seasonings. Nice and flavorful with a hint of heat… not overpowering. Just right. Good portion and Sooooo good! Ahi poke with deep fried won ton chips– ok, not memorable. Could have used a little more seasoning. Not sure, if I would get this again. Rib eye steak with grilled onions on a sizzling platter– we ordered it medium rare, but it came out well done. The taste was very good, but the meat was tough. We asked to fix the order to medium rare. This time it came back medium. It was a little more tender this time. Next time, we will order this rare. Because of this oops, our waiter comped another rib eye and an oriental chicken salad. Oriental Chinese chicken salad– the salad was flavorful and tasty. So, refreshing and light. The dressing covered each piece of romaine lettuce. There was quite a bit of chicken that dressed the salad. The portion was HUGE! Kim chee fried rice– looked very good and looked very spicy. Not sure, how it tasted. I was too chickened to try it. I heard it was good, but super SPICY!!! Chicken wings with a cool ranch dip on the side– very tasty and flavorful. There was a good amount of seasoning. Savory and tangy. Yum. Garlic chicken– it looked good and I heard it was good. I was too full to try it. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to try other pupus that were on the menu. I can’t wait to try them alongside of my favorites. I’m already planning on returning soon with another group of friends. If you are in the mood to unwind with your friends or family, try out Tsukiji’s during their Happy Hour at the bar! You will not be disappointed! Happy hour is on Monday through Saturday from 4:00 — 8:30 p.m. Go check it out! I loved it!!!

Japanese style cuisine with some local touches. The offer everything from sushi to prime rip, make your own beef, saimin, and many other choices. They have a small desert bar. Would of like to see the shaved ice come back. Service is usually quick however this last visit our weighted kind of disappeared on us. Great place if your really hungry. A bit pricy but with it if your hungry.

This is an update to my original review. We returned for another family reunion, this time the day after Christmas. We had an early dinner reservation so the restaurant wasn’t crowded yet and since it was a weekend, they had Alaskan King Crab versus snow crab. The manager had messaged me after our last visit informing me that Tsukiji had upgraded their Ahi to sashimi quality so I had to try that first. Food: The nigiri selection was the same as before but the Ahi and Salmon Nigiri were definitely a higher grade of fish. The King Crab pieces were large and meaty, a big upgrade over the snow crab we had the last time. I didn’t mention it in my last review but their bar is well stocked with some pretty good scotch selections that one doesn’t often see in an asian buffet restaurant in a mall. Balvenie, Macallan, Glenfiddich. not too shabby. A bit on the pricey side($ 15 for the Balvenie 12) but it’s a nice surprise. Service: Solid service, the staff came around often to clear plates, provide drinks, refilled water and tea. The food trays were refilled quickly including the crab legs. By the time we left the place had filled up considerably but while we were there the line moved smoothly. Value: This is a hard one. for the average eater. perhaps they will not be able to eat their money’s worth or even if they did. they’d be over stuffed. Buffets are interesting. folks tend to look at buffets(in my opinion) as «getting their moneys worth» of food. Non buffet settings are mainly judged on taste, presentation, setting, service… portion size usually only works its way into the conversation in the extremes(portion size was way to small or very generous versus the cost). We normally don’t go to other sit down meals in the $ 40 a plate range and look to eat enough volume to justify the cost. Overall: While the food was a bit better than our last visit, the service still solid, it’s not a place that we dine in regularly. good for parties and special occasions where you need to accommodate a large group, want to have no hassle, serve yourself food, and is centrally located.

This place is a perfect buffet. The price is around $ 50 per person but it’s cheaper if you ask for the kamaaina rate. Oh, and if you celebrate your birthday there, they give you a birthday coupon for a free meal for your next visit! How awesome. The food varieties are perfect, everything I love to eat. Sushi, steak, fish, soup, crab, shrimp, and dessert to top it off! I’m not a big eater, so coming to a buffet is sometimes a bummer since I get full quick but I would still come here even just to eat crab! The service is always good and if you want to catch the game, you can choose to sit at the bar. Good place to come after a long day of shopping at Ala Moana!

I’ve been to Tsukiji’s for lunch and dinner. 4 stars, for a buffet and price. Location: Great location as it is located in the Ala Moana Shopping Center which has a lot of parking. Space: Imagine 15 people sitting across each other in a long row… WITHELBOWROOM! Food: A buffet is not my ideal place to eat because I cannot eat my money’s worth. The food quality is equal to the food price for lunch, but not dinner. $ 39.00 is the dinner kama’aina rate. I had a Unilocal discount of 10% for four people when I checked in, but they didn’t allow us to use it on a weekend. The Unilocal discount didn’t list that as a limitation, so just FYI for others who try to use. AMBIANCE: It’s noisy. There were other parties going on in private rooms at the time I was there. So if you don’t mind raising your voice to have a discussion, it should be fine. SERVICE: Based on how busy it was, service wasn’t too bad. They came every so often to take away our used plates; and, without us asking, even brought us plates to put our crab shells on. Four stars. Would go again for lunch, but not dinner.

Overpriced and disappointing, should be the tagline for this restaurant. It’s hard to find even for the Ala Moana centre restaurant area and for good reason because it a complete waste of time. Note to self, if a restaurant is hard to search for in an area filled with restaurants, it’s trying to tell you something: «don’t come inside». Didn’t realise this place was only buffet until we sat down and ordered drinks, too late to leave then. They did have a large array of choice in terms of food but underwhelming quality. The sushi area was only a small selection of popular nigiri but costco quantity. And then I’ve tasted better sushi on sushi trains. I was walking around the dishes section where they had dishes like kalua pork and cabbage and a cockroach came running out of nowhere across the dishes bench. Needless to say I gave that section and the rest of the savory foods buffet section a wide berth after that. My only choice was the dessert buffet section which was situated opposite the savory foods, so the benches were not connected. The fresh fruit and brownies were about the only edible choices there. I did try ordering something from the bbq station, where there was a cook bbq-ing calamari steak, kalbi ribs or shrimp with choice of bean sprouts or onion, teppanyaki style. It actually looked worthwhile, but damn, I don’t know what type of sauce they used but it literally turned my bbq calamari steaks to rubber like tube slicks sloshing on my plate. Very disgusting. One taste and you know you’ll be sick if you eat more, if you know the feeling. Worse part, was the cost. Absolutely not worth it in any shape or form. Honestly I know RSL clubs with better buffets than this and half the cost. Forget this place!

I haven’t been here for a long time but after years I tried it again. The food was not up to par as I remember. The selections for sushi was very poor and the so she me was subpar very stringy. The other selections were sparse called poorly made taste less. There was no one at the noodle station to prepare noodles that sucked big-time. The only redemption to that restaurant was the ready to cook station I definitely would not go back and I recommend you do not go either.

I have to say I wasn’t super excited when my Mom chose Tsukiji for her birthday dinner, but I have to admit our dinner experience went above and beyond my expectations. Located on Ala Moana Shopping Center’s Ho’okipa Terrace, Tsukiji offers an extensive buffet of traditional Japanese, Chinese, and Korean dishes. You’ll find a great spread of fresh sushi, crab, New York steak and ramen and udon noodles made to order. The dessert bar includes cookies, jello, brownies, bread pudding which all pair well with their soft serve machine. Yes, a soft serve machine! I also wasn’t aware of their great cocktail, beer, wine and sake selection. They offer flavored mojitos and margaritas(yum!) as well as wine by the glass and bottle and beer on draft. Excellent! I personally think the quality of the food has improved and if you hadn’t been in awhile, you should give Tsukiji another try. The buffet has great value and is perfect for large groups as there really is something on the buffet line for everyone. My favorites are the steamed ginger fish, kabocha, and kimpira gobo. I love the zenzai as well. My daughter loves the selection of sushi and pairs it with a big bowl of udon. The rest of the adults chowed down on the crab and steak. What also sets apart this buffet are the discounts it offers! We were able to take advantage of the kama’aina discount as well as the senior discount(65 and older). They also offer a children’s discount for ages 6 – 9 years. What an incredible savings! The service at Tsukiji is also outstanding. It was very easy to make a reservation and it was great that they called a day before to confirm the details of my reservation. When we sat down for dinner, someone was always coming to check on us as well as constantly clearing used plates. Tsukiji has three private dining rooms that would be perfect for parties. Parking is plentiful at Ala Moana Shopping Center. Great atmosphere!

Awesome happy hour! FOOD: I have only been here during the happy hour in the bar(with lasts from 4−8pm — awesome!), but I thought the food and drinks were amazing — and the portions are bonkers! I’ve had the garlic chicken, ahi poke, kim chee fried rice and more, and have yet to be disappointed. Seriously though the portions are huge, bring your friends. The cocktails were also very tasty and strong! SERVICE&SPACE: I’ve been here 3 – 4 times and each time have had wonderful service. Even when the bar is packed for happy hour, the staff tries to fit you in and let you know when they expect an opening. Once seated, I’ve always found the staff to be very attentive and friendly. PRICE: Crazy good prices! The garlic chicken costs about $ 6 and could easily feed 3 – 4 people. You don’t have to spend much money to get filled up and liquored up here.

Had great service and good food. Our water was refilled over and over again even when the glass wasn’t empty. Would definitely recommend you to go if you have Unilocal, you get discount, plus to locals in HI, show ID as proof of residence. Desserts good but too sweet. Pineapple slices were just right, not too sweet yet not too sour!

Went here for a business dinner with a group of about 12. We got here about 5PM and like a couple other reviews it is a GREAT time to go as it is close to empty. The restaurant seemed semi-clean, the wait staff very attentive in taking away buffet plates and filling drink/water glasses. The offerings are decent… I am not sure that I think this place is worth 40 bucks a person though. But I can never eat that much food, so it may just be me. I found their sushi to be very fresh, and lots of variety. They had tons of other choices some local type foods along with an area where they would grill you up some NY steak on request! They did have crab legs as well on top of the numerous selections of other fish items. The dessert section was lacking big time. They had jello, soft serve vanilla ice cream, bread pudding(okay this was actually DELISH) and brown aging pineapple. Will I return? Probably not but it was not that bad — it was average.

I think Tsukiji’s buffet is one of the better buffet on this island. Today I had their lunch buffet. If you like sushi, some korean & chinese food this is a place for you. It’s $ 25 for adult for lunch. You get $ 2 off for showing local ID. I showed my Unilocal check in for 10% off for 4 people but I got the local discount instead which is less. Oh well… I like their food portion. Everything is in smaller portion so you don’t indulge in one dish but rather you can get variety of things. Some of my favorites are tempuras, Kalbi, and of course cute little desserts. The buffet includes a choice of hot tea and coffee and I think iced tea too. I also like the service here. Most of the servers are younger generation. They’re very attentive to your table even though it’s buffet.
