Congrats to Justin U for popping his UYE cherry by hosting an amazing event at Addis Abbaba! For those of you who are still fairly new to the Unilocal scene, UYE stands for«Unofficial Unilocal Event» and is essentially put together by someone from the Unilocal community. At this particular UYE Justin had 24+ guests and everyone was very excited for their first taste of Ethiopian food. I have to tell you that it took forever for our food to come out but I’m going to give Jim and Meron(the owners) the benefit of the doubt and blame the sheer size of our party for the delay. The incense was also a bit tough for some of us to take. We were seated right by where they were burning the incense so I think that’s why the smell was so strong. Rianna S said that it reminded her of «Church Smell.» Certainly if the holy ghost had a cologne, this would be an opportune time to buy him/her some. Our food came out and my stomach rejoiced! We were first served an appetizer plate of two spring rolls, one chicken and one spinach with lentils. The server forgot to tell the vegetarians in the group that they were eating a tasty animal so that was a bit upsetting but they got over it. Our entrée was a lovely cubed lamb(for me) and a tasty curried fish(for my BF). Each dish came with an entrée and fabulous assortment of sides. Oh and to top it off they were all served on top of a giant circular piece of indira bread. My lamb was ridiculously tasty and I stuffed myself silly!!! After dinner we were served a small piece of chocolate mousse cake and coffee. The cake was boring but the piece of cake was deish! If you’re a coffee fan you must be sure to try the Ethiopian coffee which is cooked on a hot plate at the front of the restaurant. I had some serious doubts but that coffee was damn legit! Our entire meal(not including coffee) totaled $ 25 before tax. I thought it was reasonable and I’m stoked that I got to eat something completely new! Look out for more UYEs and more pop-up restaurants because this trend is here to stay! SYOY!!!
