Pricey but very, very good! I will be going back I’m sure!

As visitors to Hooksett, my wife and I were very happy to find this gem. The food and service was great! I was wowed by the authenticity of the food as well as the price. The beer selection was more than appropriate! Enjoy :)

Authentic German food for real. Some restaurants will dabble in a cuisine but this place goes all the way. Much of the menu is homemade. The owners are actively involved. The staff is well trained, attentive and friendly. I started with the cucumber salad which reminded me of my mother’s recipe. The potato pancakes were my next course which came with apple sauce(I could have selected homemade kraut as a side). The hot, thin pancakes with apple sauce were delicious. I finished with an entrée of Brats and Kraut. The sausage is authentic and spiced just right. The kraut was the best I’ve had. My wife started with the mixed salad. It’s a unique and yummy salad containing tomato, carrots, mixed greens, cukes and what I think is German potato salad. It was a nice start to the meal. She had the kasespätzle for her entrée which is a German form of Mac and cheese. She enjoyed it and brought some extra home for me to enjoy. It’s a light and very flavorful Mac n cheese. We passed on the dessert but we’re very tempted by the offerings we saw passing by.

We are really lucky to have such authentic variety of food. Bavarian German food here is as good as it gets! Some items can be pricey, but worth it since you saved the cost of traveling to Europe! All the dishes taste and look very authentic & fresh — appetizers, main course and desserts! Did I mention the variety of German beer?

My wife and I came here on a Saturday evening and were pleasantly surprised. Upon entry we were asked if we had reservations(we did not), however we were seated in just a few minutes. Next time I will call ahead. The atmosphere wasn’t really German, with many separate areas for dining. This was nice as it was quiet, and my wife and I could hold a conversation easily. The wall decorations were nice and not overbearing. Once we sat down we ordered a beer. This was authentic German, the one liter mugs looked like they belonged in an Oktoberfest. No complaints here. The food was incredible — authentic German cuisine.(Don’t bring the kids here expecting cheeseburgers or chicken fingers.) This is place was for real. My wife wasn’t very hungry, so she ordered the Reiberdatschi(Homemade Bavarian potato pancakes). Simple, well made, and incredibly tasty. How one can make a potato pancake taste so good, fried up just right, without being even a slight bit greasy. I had the Münchner Sauerbraten, and even though the beer was filling me up quickly, there was no way I was going to leave any leftovers. I had to finish off with a desert, and the Apfelstrudel was perfect. Not an american apple pie, but a real strudel served with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. I could tell that the cream was freshly whipped, not from a can or tub. While we spent more than we anticipated, I can honestly say it was well worth it.

Best German food I have ever had in this country. Homemade spaetzle and dumplings better than most I’ve had in Germany. Sauerbraten beef was cooked perfectly, with a deliciously well-balanced gravy. Rouladen were also touted as best ever by my brother-in-law who wouldn’t even share one bite. The creamy jäger sauce was spot on with plenty of mushrooms. The Schnitzel and cordon bleu were also fried to a prefect crust. Gurken salat was just like Omi’s and the potato salat was just like my Tante’s. For deserts the Apfel Strudl was well-liked by our table but the star for me was the thin pancake with ice cream. and it was duly noted that the whipped cream was made fresh. So delicious. Also, the warm pretzels with mustard that we had to start off our meal were so soft and fresh. Gulasch suppe was also very good — I forgot how much I like it. I am very happy there was no TV in the bar. It’s a smallish restaurant and a TV would be a nosy distraction to the diners who are not interested in that kind of background noise. The hostess was in traditional dirndl attire which I found to be very authentic, it would be nice if all of the servers dressed in dirndl’s. We live about an hour & ½ from here, but we will definitely be back more often now that we have found this gem. If you have been searching for a good German place to eat, I HIGHLY recommend that you come here.

I don’t have a lot to compare it with since I have only been to one other German restaurant, but the service was very good and friendly. The food was plated well and was in ample portions. It tasted good for what it was, but German food from this and the one other restaurant and the few random dishes that I have had tend to be bland. The beer and wine selection was pretty good. I was expecting to be underwhelmed by the flavors. So, I wasn’t disappointed, but I prefer food with a little more punch. I had a sausage sampler plate with German potato salad and red cabbage. The sausages were good, but not distinctly different in flavor even though they looked quite different. I tasted some of the venison that our friend ordered. It was tasty, but once again fairly mildly flavored. If you prefer ‘meat and potatoes’ with tame flavors this place might be for you. I won’t rush back, but I won’t be disappointed if our friends want to go back there again.

This place rocks. Moved up to New England from New Jersey. Between NYC and Jersey, it was easy to find great authentic german food. Upon moving up to MA, then NH, it was impossible. Finally, this place came about and gives me what I have been missing for past years. Great authentic, delicious german food for a fair price. Restaurant itself is small but quaint. If you like german, do not miss this place.

The food here is as authentic as you can get. I had the Leberkase with bavarian potato salad! It was super rich and delicious! It was in the small plates section and I had leftovers. Erica was our waitress and was very helpful and super nice! The owner came to our table to see how our meal was which was a nice touch! Definitely worth the hour drive! Great restaurant and dining experience! We will be back!

My wife and I have been meaning to come here for a long time. I have a feeling visit #2 will happen sooner rather than later. This place is very cute and the execution on traditional German favorites is excellent. Given the gluttony of this past weekend, we went for a couple small plates and a side: Leberkäse: which is a German variation of pork loaf, that is then pan fried briefly was delicious. It married perfectly with the sauerkraut that we opted for in place of the potato salad. Weißwürste: was a special and was very flavorful and as good as any I’ve had in the past. It was served with a Bavarian-style pretzel, which made me long for Oktoberfest. Spätzle: the classic German side is something we couldn’t pass up on. Love these little dumplings :) Ayinger ‘Jahrhundert’: one of my favorite German summer beers, so refreshing and without any edge. High quality brew. Hope you have the chance to enjoy this gem. Not really highly visible from road, so pay attention to address versus GPS.

My husband and I had dinner at Bavaria on June 17, 2015. It was well worth the 30 minute drive! Anton and Monika have a gem of a restaurant. We started with yummy authentic salads and the Kartoffelsuppe mit Speck which is traditional Bavarian potato soup with vegetables and bacon… DELICIOUS! My entrée choice was the Jägerschnitzel which is a lean, boneless piece of pork topped with a mushroom cream sauce. Served with homemade späzle. It was amazing and extremely tender. My husband had a steak special topped with crispy fried onions(not batter fried) and served with fired potatoes. He was in heaven! The place is spotless, of course and the service top notch.

I had dinner at Bavaria with my husband and a couple of friends last weekend. Although several other Unilocalers had stated that reservations are a must, the restaurant had plenty of open tables when we arrived at 7 on a Friday night. The restaurant itself does not have a German feel at all. It has a very quiet and reserved atmosphere. We started with the pretzel appetizer special and the wurstsalat(cold sausage in vinegar with onions and Swiss cheese). The pretzels were awful. They were probably the worst I have ever eaten. They were very stale and tasted like they had been sitting out all day. The wurstsalat was pretty good. I had the bratwurst for dinner. The sausage was excellent and I have no complaints about the potato salad that came with it. My husband had the meatloaf special with spatzel, which was very good.

Driving to this location in a blizzard, the grungy and dark strip mall seemed as if there was nothing open; however, once you drive to the back parking lot, you can clearly see that Bavaria is open. The restaurant should invest on some more visible signs so their customers actually realize this place exists! Definitely not the cheapest little spot to stop by for a hearty and warm meal. I loved the décor and the atmosphere. They have authentic beers and have a wide selection of wines. The manager was in a traditional German gown, and stopped by our table to make sure we received good service from our waitress. Our waitress was also super helpful, fun, and casual. We did not know most of the dishes, and I would have to say her recommendations were superb! I ordered some kind of mushroom cream dish with a dumpling. And… their french fries have got to be one of the best around the area. Go figure… coming to this authentic place and I loved the french fries the most. I would definitely stop by here again.

Even though I married into a German/Serbian family I never completely embraced the cuisine. Too greasy and salty for my tastes. Nor am I a gravy fan. So going to a German restaurant is rarely my first choice. Not that there are many around here. But we were out shopping and there are precious few restaurants in that part of Hooksett, except for Wendy’s or Subway. Hubby just had to go take a look, even if we couldn’t get in. Didn’t matter that he was flying to Munich in near future and would get his fill of Bavarian treats! The map had it in the wrong spot, across the road, at a stone aggregate business. We were looking for a run down shopping plaza, based on other comments, but turns out it was in the back of a two storey professional office building. Signs for each business are on the small side, poorly lit. Reviews all said good luck getting a seat and reservations were usually needed. It’s a small place. But apparently luck was on our side and it wasn’t too busy at all. The owner greeted us at the door, in her dirndl ensemble. Lots of beer steins on shelves, and images of alpine cottages, plus the obligatory cuckoo clock. Going for the authenticity. She was a little sullen(Hoping to close early? Seems closing time is somewhat flexible.) but later on came over to our table, after talking with other customers, to make sure we were happy. She really softened when DH started chatting with her in German. She stayed with us for several minutes until someone asked for her in the kitchen and she graciously excused herself. Our waitress was super friendly and loved her quirky sense of humor. She was almost giddy when I submitted the map location adjustment request — apparently they get a lot of calls asking for directions. Guess some nav systems have it wrong too? I saw someone else’s picture of the cream of leek soup in reviews. Yippee, it was soup of the day. Omg, can you say butter? Big dollop of the whipped stuff on top. Really tasty, not very thick, but a nice consistency and lots of fresh chopped leeks. Hubby tried the warm pretzels. They came with three different mustards for dipping. He scarfed those down, sans mustard, and I used part of one for dipping in my soup. Yum! DH loves leberkäse when he’s in Germany, or back in Toronto, so he had to try this one. A favorite phrase of my Newcastle UK father came to mind, «Move over, so we can all get in the trough.» He inhaled what is essentially a huge slab of very finely ground meatloaf(made of pork, but contrary to the name, no liver) topped with a fried egg and some jus. To me it looked like a big French toast, but what do I know? Except that I tried to make it once… Just once. Instead of potato salad he went for the sauerkraut, which really was very pleasant. Not as bitter or sharp, as many sauerkrauts can be. I wasn’t in a wursty(sausage) mood, and don’t usually go for schnitzel, but am a sucker for mushroom dishes, so decided to try the Jägerschnitzel(kept to the pork, not a veal fan). Remember when I said the restaurant wasn’t busy? Well, it was so quiet you could hear the schnitzel being pounded out in the kitchen! That’ll wake you up! The sauce was nicer than I expected, not too salty, lots of mushrooms, creamy base. Perhaps the schnitzel was a tad overcooked as the pork was lean, but a little chewy. The spätzle was tender and not gummy. Portion was big; took half home. We didn’t try dessert. Next visit perhaps. Most of the menu items are reasonably priced, but the schnitzels are expensive, especially if you want veal instead of standard pork. That will bring you up to almost $ 30 for a plate. Only two specific vegetarian dishes and chances of gluten free is probably close to nil. The takeout menu lists the complete menu, but only about half the choices are available for takeout(e.g. no schnitzel to go) The extended family will be coming down for a visit this summer. We will definitely bring them here. Bavaria is closed for the first three weeks of July, so we will schedule Oma’s trip accordingly. And we were advised to definitely make reservations in future several days in advance, even if it’s just the two of us again.

.WOW! A little bit of Germany, squished behind a derelict strip mall. Descent food, marvelous ambiance and good service. For a culinary experience, this place is worth the effort to find.

Let me first start by saying that I don’t normally like German food. This place is exceptional. I loved the service and the décor. We had a nice window seat. Since I don’t particularly eat sausage I tried the meat patties and the German potato salad. Wow!!! The meat patties were fresh, soft, well flavored, and the portion was perfect. The potato salad was exceptional. I also tried the«meatloaf» which is really high class spam. Not bad.

Has quickly become one of our favorite spots. Food is authentic and quite delicious. We love Erica as our waitress! Don’t be in a hurry. The service can be a little slow, but that’s also part of the charm. Each night they have a couple specials & we usually go that way. Tonight was smoked pork chop and meatloaf with mushroom sauce. Both were exquisite!

As authentic as it comes in the north of Boston region. Don’t let the crappy looking strip mall scare you. Inside is where the magic happens. Excellent food. Good service. Great beer. Expect everything to be a bit simple as it is in the fatherland. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for the real deal German fare.

I am originally German and have worked in Bavarian restaurants in Germany. Bavaria here is an absolute standout. I have taken family and friends several times now and it has been perfect every time. Service and welcome is always polite and friendly. The restaurant is cozy and the owners did a great job making it resemble a typical German small town restaurant in southern Germany. They have several excellent German beers on draft, and more bottled as well as good German wines. Where Bavaria is really amazing is the food. You might think of German food as heavy and bland. Well, the menu is certainly very traditional German, which means lots of delicious sausage, cutlets(schnitzel) and other German dishes, but they manage to make them so flavorful and delicious that everyone I’ve taken has commented repeatedly about how good every bite is. I asked the owner once where they got their sausages and meats. She said she and her husband scoured the whole east coast looking for butchers and suppliers who had meats that conformed to German cleanliness and purity standards, so you can be confident you’re eating highest-quality food too. The prices are very reasonable for the quality, taste, and quantity of food. Bavaria is the only restaurant in NH I would go to anytime. I am happy for them that they seem busy whenever I call — that means others are enjoying it too and I can look forward to going back for years to come!
